Abstract
Rabbits occupy facets of veterinary medicine spanning from companion mammals, wildlife medicine, zoologic species, and research models. Therefore, analgesia is required for a variety of conditions in rabbits and is a critical component of patient care. Considerations when selecting an analgesic protocol in rabbits include timing of administration, route of administration, degree or anticipated pain, ability to access or use controlled drugs, systemic health, and any potential side effects. This review focuses on pharmacologic and locoregional management of pain in rabbits and emphasizes the need for further studies on pain management in this species.

Abstract
Environmental concentrations of pharmacologically active substances are increasing dramatically throughout the world, to the point where they are now considered a serious threat to the aquatic environment. This high occurrence of pharmaceutical residues in the aquatic environment is due to an increase in i) the prescription and consumption of drugs, and ii) their subsequent discharge into wastewater and its imperfect purification in wastewater treatment plants. Recent surveys have clearly shown that such substances can have serious negative effects on non-target organisms. In the present study, we tested the effects of several commonly used pharmaceuticals, such as antidepressants, analgesics and antibiotics, on the embryonic stages of different fishes. Specifically, we applied concentration ranges of tramadol, enrofloxacin and nortriptylined on a common toxicological model organism, the zebrafish (Danio rerio), and other species native to Central European freshwaters, i.e. common carp (Cyprinus carpio), catfish (Silurus glanis) and tench (Tinca tinca). Our results show that, though malformation and negative impacts on hatching and mortality were only observed at the highest test concentrations, gene expression indicated that even low environmentally relevant concentrations (0.1 μg/L) can cause significant changes in early development of embryo.

Effects of a Single Opioid Dose on Gastrointestinal Motility in Rabbits ( Oryctolagus cuniculus): Comparisons among Morphine, Butorphanol, and Tramadol. Vet Sci 2022; 9:vetsci9010028. Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of single doses of butorphanol, morphine, and tramadol on gastrointestinal motility in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) using non-invasive imaging methods, such as radiographic barium follow through and ultrasonographic contraction counts. Time-lapse radiographic and ultrasound examinations were performed before and after a single intramuscular dose of 5 mg kg−1 butorphanol, 10 mg kg−1 morphine, or 10 mg kg−1 tramadol. Pyloric and duodenal contraction counts by ultrasonography and radiographic repletion scores for the stomach and caecum were analysed using a mixed linear model. No significant effect was noted on ultrasound examinations of pyloric and duodenal contractions after administration of an opioid treatment. Morphine had a significant effect on the stomach and the caecum repletion scores, whereas butorphanol had a significant effect only on the caecum repletion score. Tramadol had no significant effect on the stomach or caecum repletion scores. The present findings suggest that a single dose of 5 mg kg−1 butorphanol or 10 mg kg−1 morphine temporarily slows gastrointestinal transit in healthy rabbits, preventing physiological progression of the alimentary bolus without the induction of ileus. In contrast, a single dose of 10 mg kg−1 tramadol has no such effects.

Abstract
Pharmaceuticals constitute a significant group of emerging pollutants (EPs). The use of pharmaceuticals in animal breeding causes them to reach the soil environment in excrement and fertilizers. Depending on their chemical properties, pharmaceuticals can be sorbed to the soil or be washed out with rainfall and eventually be entered into groundwater. This paper evaluates the mobility of tramadol (TRA) and carbamazepine (CBZ), and two transformation products, O-desmethyltramadol (O-DMTRA) and 10,11-dihydro-10-hydroxycarbamazepine (10-OH-CBZ) in soils. Both pharmaceuticals are applied in human and animal treatment, which makes them enter the environment in native and metabolized form in high doses. Experiments were carried out in accordance with the OECD 106 procedure (batch tests) and DIN 19528:2009-01 procedure (percolation column test). The adsorption coefficients (Kd) for TRA, CBZ, O-DMTRA and 10-OH-CBZ were, respectively, 1.41 ± 0.10, 1.87 ± 0.06, 0.90 ± 0.03 and 0.37 ± 0.07 for sandy soil RS04, and 18.09 ± 0.78, 2.56 ± 0.05, 10.89 ± 0.17 and 0.56 ± 0.38 L kg-1 for loamy soil RS06. The percolation column test was carried out for sandy soil RS04. The results obtained for TRA and O-DMTRA under static conditions indicated a high mobility of these compounds in soil, whereas the column leaching experiment showed that these compounds bind strongly to soil particles. A correlation between static and dynamic tests was observed in the case of CBZ and 10-OH-CBZ. These compounds will probably be characterized by a high or moderate mobility in soil.
