Abstract
AIMS The aim of this study was to enhance the effectiveness of an integrated treatment model for patients with severe multiple injuries in China. METHODS In this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis of data from 110 patients with multiple severe injuries. These patients were divided into two groups based on the treatment model they received. The first group, called the MDTM group, received the integrated treatment model, which involved a multidisciplinary team-based approach. The second group, designated the TSM group, received the traditional specialist-based treatment model. The primary outcome measure was the survival rate of patients after treatment. Secondary outcomes included the time spent on hospital emergency treatment, the length of hospital stay, the mortality rate, and family satisfaction. RESULTS The survival rate of patients after treatment in the MDTM group (83.93%) was significantly greater than that in the TSM group (70.37%). Consequently, the mortality of patients after treatment in the MDTM group (16.07%) was significantly lower than that in the TSM group (29.63%). Furthermore, the MDTM group demonstrated significantly shorter durations of rescue efforts and shorter hospital stays. Additionally, family satisfaction was significantly greater in the MDTM group. CONCLUSION The integrated treatment model shows potential for optimizing outcomes for patients with multiple severe injuries and generating higher levels of family satisfaction. This model holds practical applicability in the context of China and may help alleviate the strained relationship between physicians and patients.

Abstract
AIM Patients with lumbar disc surgery experience many different problems during their hospital stay. Nurses also face different challenges in providing care to them. Nonetheless, no study has yet specifically addressed these challenges to the best of our knowledge. This study aimed at exploring the challenges of nursing care for patients with lumbar discectomy. DESIGN This qualitative study was conducted in 2022 using content analysis. METHODS Eight nurses, three patients with lumbar discectomy, and one physician were purposively selected from the neurosurgery wards of the hospitals affiliated to Golestan University of Medical Sciences, Gorgan, Iran. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for data analysis and the content analysis method recommended by Elo and Kyngas was used for data analysis. The main phases of this method are open coding, grouping, categorization, and abstraction. The MAXQDA 10 software was employed to facilitate data management. Data collection continued to reach data saturation. RESULTS The challenges of nursing care for patients with lumbar discectomy were categorized into eleven subcategories and three main categories, namely dominant routine-based practice in the healthcare system, futile attempt for team-based care, and shortages as a major barrier to quality care. There are different personal, professional, financial, structural, and organizational challenges in nursing care for patients with lumbar discectomy which can negatively affect postoperative patient recovery.

Abstract
PURPOSE In pediatric healthcare, patient satisfaction queries exclude children and solicit quantitative ratings from caregivers. We sought satisfaction perspectives from hospitalized children 7 to 17 years and their caregivers by qualitatively analyzing interview responses. DESIGN AND METHODS English and Spanish-speaking children and their parents on five inpatient units completed two open-ended questions about their satisfaction at hospital discharge (T1, face to face) and 7 to 10 days later (T2, telephone). The questions asked about what was good and what could be better at the hospital. Responses were analyzed using descriptive semantic content analysis and consensus coding methods. RESULTS Patients' mean age was 11.9 years (SD = 3.17); 51% were male. At T1, 362 patients offered 833 responses; 600 parents offered 1496 responses. At T2, 252 patients offered 552 responses; 488 parents offered 1290 responses. At T1 and T2, the most frequent patient response to what was good was 'Staff took good care of me' and for caregivers was 'Staff behaving professionally'. At T1, the most frequent patient response about what could be better was 'more activities for kids', and at T2, 'Nothing' and 'More food options and better food quality'; for caregivers at T1, 'Nothing' and 'Not liking the physical space', and at T2, 'Nothing', and 'More communication and professionalism from hospital staff'. CONCLUSIONS Pediatric patients and their caregivers are willing and able to offer perspectives about satisfaction with care, and suggestions for improvement before discharge. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Pediatric patients and their caregivers' perspectives about care yield actionable recommendations for hospital systems.

Abstract
The objective has been to develop and validate a questionnaire to know patient experience in relation to nursing care during their hospital stay in the Spanish healthcare setting. To know patient experience will improve the quality of care of the healthcare system; therefore, we must count on validated tools so it can be evaluated in an accurate way. METHOD a questionnaire containing 29 items alongside socio-demographic questions was developed. It was distributed to 158 patients admitted to a tertiary hospital. The psychometric properties were assessed through principal components analysis and confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate construct validity, employing Cronbach's alpha to test reliability. RESULTS The final tool contains 17 items grouped into 5 dimensions: interrelations, nursing care, information during hospital stay, information about patient's rights, and discharge information. Two additional questions related to pain were added. The questionnaire showed adequate validity and reliability. CONCLUSIONS we describe a new tool validated and adapted to the Spanish healthcare setting with adequate validity and reliability to assess patient experience with nursing professionals during hospital stay. This tool will serve to identify areas for improvement in hospital nursing care and as an instrument in the management and supervision of nursing teams.

Abstract
Pediatric patients and their caregivers often experience perioperative anxiety. Interventions reduce caregiver anxiety improve cooperation and contribute to an improved patient experience. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of virtual reality (VR)-assisted mindfulness on perioperative caregiver anxiety. Participants were randomized into a standard of care (SOC) group, which included snacks but no technology-based distractions, or a VR group, which included snacks and a VR-guided meditation. Caregiver anxiety was measured before and after the intervention using the Visual Analogue Scale for Anxiety (VAS-A). Secondary aims explored participants' baseline anxiety with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). VR group participants completed a satisfaction survey. Linear regression models of VAS-A and STAI were used to compare group differences. Satisfaction survey results were reported with descriptive statistics. 26 participants were included, with 12 randomized to the SOC group and 14 to the VR group. VAS-A scores in the VR group were lower than those in the SOC group (p = .002). The STAI found no change in participants' state of anxiety in the SOC group (p = .7108), compared to a significant reduction (p = .014) in the VR group when controlling for anxiety traits. 12 of 14 caregivers in the VR group expressed satisfaction or strong satisfaction. This study supports the implementation of VR mindfulness as a method to reduce caregiver anxiety. VR use in the pediatric healthcare setting is safe and inexpensive, and the intervention had a high degree of participant satisfaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A textbook outcome (TO) describes the results of a successful liver transplantation (LT) in which all aspects of the LT and posttransplant courses were uneventful. We compared patient perceived experience of a TO with clinically defined TO. METHODS This was a single-institution cohort study with retrospective chart review including patients who underwent LT from 2019 to 2021. Patients were asked to complete the survey at a scheduled posttransplant visit. The survey was designed to assess their viewpoints on the definition of a TO. A clinically defined TO was defined as no mortality, no severe complications, no need for reintervention, no prolonged hospital and intensive care unit stays, and no readmission. RESULTS Of the 182 patients who were contacted, 132 (72.5%) completed the survey. Overall, 98 patients (74%) considered that they had experienced a TO. The clinically defined TO rate was 22.0%. Multivariate analysis showed that patients who did not experience severe complications were more likely to consider that they had a TO (P = 0.01; odds ratio: 3.2; 95% confidence interval: 1.3-7.9). CONCLUSIONS From patients' perspectives, survival and avoidance of complications were the major characteristics of a TO.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Our aim was to describe practices in multimodal pain management at US children's hospitals and evaluate the association between non-opioid pain management strategies and pediatric patient-reported outcomes (PROs). METHODS Data were collected as part of the 18-hospital ENhanced Recovery In CHildren Undergoing Surgery (ENRICH-US) clinical trial. Non-opioid pain management strategies included use of preoperative and postoperative non-opioid analgesics, regional anesthetic blocks, and a biobehavioral intervention. PROs included perioperative nervousness, pain-related functional disability, health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Associations were analyzed using multinomial logistic regression models. RESULTS Among 186 patients, 62 (33%) received preoperative analgesics, 186 (100%) postoperative analgesics, 81 (44%) regional anesthetic block, and 135 (73%) used a biobehavioral intervention. Patients were less likely to report worsened as compared to stable nervousness following regional anesthetic block (relative risk ratio [RRR]:0.31, 95% confidence interval [CI]:0.11-0.85), use of a biobehavioral technique (RRR:0.26, 95% CI:0.10-0.70), and both in combination (RRR:0.08, 95% CI:0.02-0.34). There were no associations of non-opioid pain control modalities with pain-related functional disability or HRQoL. CONCLUSION Use of postoperative non-opioid analgesics have been largely adopted, while preoperative non-opioid analgesics and regional anesthetic blocks are used less frequently. Regional anesthetic blocks and biobehavioral interventions may mitigate postoperative nervousness in children. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III.

Abstract
In recent decades, the role of quality improvement (QI) in pediatric surgery has grown substantially. Patient and family engagement can help to maximize the impact of QI by enhancing safety and patient outcomes. Yet, broader, systematic efforts to actively involve patients and families in QI initiatives remain a persistent gap in pediatric surgery. To address this gap, we propose an agenda centered on three key goals for future quality improvement efforts: (1) building partnerships with patients and their families; (2) expanding the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and novel, cross-disciplinary research methods; and (3) engaging patients and families consistently across all stages of pediatric surgical care. Fulfilling this agenda will be essential in shifting our mindset to view QI as a collective that involves patients, families, clinicians, and payers in continuous, system-wide opportunities to evaluate and improve care. Actively listening to and collaborating with patients and families may also help renew our focus on narrowing the gap between current practice and the best possible practice for children undergoing surgery.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are increasingly recognized as important health care quality indicators. PREMs measure patients' perception of the care they have received, differing from satisfaction ratings, which measure their expectations. The use of PREMs in pediatric surgery is limited, prompting this systematic review to assess their characteristics and identify areas for improvement. METHODS A search was conducted in eight databases from inception until January 12, 2022, to identify PREMs used with pediatric surgical patients, with no language restrictions. We focused on studies of patient experience but also included studies that assessed satisfaction and sampled experience domains. The quality of the included studies was appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. RESULTS Following title and abstract screening of 2633 studies, 51 were included for full-text review, of which 22 were subsequently excluded because they measured only patient satisfaction rather than experience, and 14 were excluded for a range of other reasons. Out of the 15 included studies, questionnaires used in 12 studies were proxy-reported by parents and in 3 by both parents and children; none focused only on the child. Most instruments were developed in-house for each specific study, without patients' involvement in the process, and were not validated. CONCLUSIONS Although PROMs are increasingly used in pediatric surgery, PREMs are not yet in use, being typically substituted by satisfaction surveys. Significant efforts are needed to develop and implement PREMs in pediatric surgical care, in order to effectively capture children's and families' voices. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the relationships between service quality, patient satisfaction, patient loyalty and medication adherence in the Syrian healthcare setting from a patient’s perspective. Based on random sampling technique, data collection was conducted in six hospitals located in the Syrian capital Damascus. The reliability and validity of the theoretical model had been confirmed using quantitative analyses SmartPLS software. The study indicated that our proposed model can significantly explain (35) per cent of patient satisfaction, (55) per cent of patient loyalty and (46) per cent medication adherence in a statistically manner. Our results highlighted that patient satisfaction mediated the relationship between patient loyalty and service quality (assurance, reliability and financial aspect). Besides, patient satisfaction had mediation effect on the relationship between medication adherence and service quality (reliability and financial aspect). Financial aspect had the highest impact on patient satisfaction (β = 0.242) and medication adherence (β = 0.302). In addition, reliability was the only dimension of service quality that had a significant direct impact on patient satisfaction, patient loyalty and medication adherence. To increase patient loyalty in Syrian hospitals, healthcare professionals should place a greater emphasis on the reliability and responsiveness elements of service quality. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first study conducted during the COVID pandemic to evaluate the mediating role of patient satisfaction in the relationship between service quality, patient loyalty and medication adherence in the Syrian healthcare sector.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES With an emphasis on patient-centered care and provider transparency, patient satisfaction measures have become a key indicator of healthcare quality. Using the Press Ganey Outpatient Medical Practice Survey (PGOMPS), we sought to determine key factors that impact patient satisfaction. METHODS We conducted a retrospective review of new pediatric (<18 years old) outpatient otolaryngology visits between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2018 at a children's hospital clinic and satellite clinics. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis were used to determine factors correlated with patient satisfaction for both the PGOMPS Total Score and Provider Sub-Score. RESULTS A total of 1,050 patient or parent responses were included. The mean patient age was 5.6 ± 5.0 years with 54.7% identified as male. Univariate analysis demonstrated that for each 10-min increase in Total Wait Time, the odds of being satisfied were significantly decreased on both the Total Score (odds ratio [OR] 0.5; P < 0.001) and Provider Sub-Score (OR 0.8; P < 0.001). Furthermore, for each additional 5-year increase in patient age, patients were significantly more likely to report satisfaction on Total Score (OR 1.21; P = 0.011). Multivariate analysis revealed that the odds of achieving satisfaction for each decile increase in Total Wait Time were 0.5 for Total Score (P < 0.001) and 0.8 for Provider Sub-Score (P < 0.001), independent of patient age, sex, insurance category, socioeconomic disadvantage level, and patient community type. CONCLUSIONS Wait time is a significant factor impacting patients' likelihood of being satisfied with their overall care in a pediatric otolaryngology clinic setting.

Abstract
Background: Depression is a prevalent health condition among hypertension patients in elderly caring social organizations (SOs). Patients with hypertension and depression symptoms have worse health outcomes than those without depression. As the population ages, chronic and mental health issues such as depression of hypertension patients in elderly caring SOs have become prominent. However, the combined effects of social support, institutional satisfaction, and anxiety on depression among hypertension individuals in elderly caring SOs remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the mediating effects of institutional satisfaction and anxiety on the relationship between social support and depression among hypertension patients in elderly caring SOs in Anhui Province, China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method. A questionnaire was used to collect data on demographic characteristics, the satisfaction of elderly caring SOs, social support, anxiety, and depression. A multiple linear regression model was utilized to investigate depression-related factors, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine the relationships between social support, institutional satisfaction, anxiety, and depression among patients with hypertension in elderly caring SOs. Results: Our results indicated that the mean scores of social support were 20.19 ± 6.98 and 1.92 ± 3.18 for anxiety, and 6.24 ± 5.03 for depression; besides, 33.3% of participants were very satisfied with elderly caring SOs, 48.5% were satisfied, and only 6.0% were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied. Comorbid chronic diseases were significantly associated with depression. Institutional satisfaction was directly negatively related to depression, whereas anxiety was directly positively correlated with depression. Social support had an indirect negative association with depression by the mediating effects of institutional satisfaction and anxiety. Conclusions: The study highlights the importance of social support in maintaining mental health among hypertension patients residing in elderly caring SOs. To alleviate depression among hypertension patients in elderly caring SOs, strategies that target enhancing social support, institutional satisfaction, and anxiety reduction should be prioritized. More importantly, more attention should be paid to patients with comorbid chronic diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A family member's negative experiences with medical care have long-term effects on a patient's attitudes and emotions. However, the impact of family members' experiences on patients' trust in their own physicians and in physicians generally is poorly understood. This study aims to quantify these associations. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey involving adults with non-communicable diseases (cardiac disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, and rheumatic disease) was conducted in Japan during April 2020. The main exposure variable was dissatisfaction with the medical care that family members had received. The main outcomes were patients' (N = 661) own trust in their personal physicians and in physicians generally. The study adopted the Japanese version of the Abbreviated Wake Forest Physician Trust Scales. Both 5-item scales (general and individual physician trust) were translated and validated for the study. The total scores were transformed into a scale of 0-100 points. A series of linear mixed-effects models with consideration for clustering effect by prefectures were fit. RESULTS The results showed a lower rating for trust in physicians generally as compared to trust in the respondent's personal physician (mean 57.0 vs. 66.4 points; p < 0.001). Furthermore, dissatisfaction with a family member's medical care was associated with lower trust in physicians generally (mean difference - 9.58, 95 %CI -12.4 to -6.76). Interestingly, dissatisfaction with a family member's care was also associated with lower trust in the respondent's personal physician (mean difference - 3.19, 95 %CI -6.02 to -0.36), but the magnitude of this association was weaker. The lower trust in personal physicians may be mediated by reduced trust in physicians generally. CONCLUSIONS We suggest that physicians enquire about past patients' negative experiences, including dissatisfaction with family members' medical care, to repair hidden loss of trust, when they sense that patients doubt them or physicians generally.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Quality improvement (QI) requires data, indicators, and national benchmarks. Knowledge about the usefulness of Child Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (Child HCAHPS) data are lacking. We examined quality leader and frontline staff perceptions about patient experience measurement and use of Child HCAHPS data for QI. METHODS We surveyed children's hospital leaders and staff about their use of Child HCAHPS for QI, including measures from other studies. We compared scale and item means for leaders and staff and compared means to other studies. RESULTS Almost all leaders, but only one-third of staff, received reports with Child HCAHPS data. Leaders found the data more useful for comparisons to other hospitals than did staff. Both agreed on the validity of Child HCAHPS scores and used these data for improving pediatric care experiences. They agreed the data accurately reflect their hospital's quality of care, provide specific information for QI, and can be used to improve pediatric care experiences. They also agreed on approaches to improve Child HCAHPS scores. Among staff, QI was reported as essential to their daily work and that Child HCAHPS data were integral to QI. CONCLUSIONS As uptake of the Child HCAHPS survey increases, our study of one medium-sized, urban children's hospital revealed that leaders and staff believe Child HCAHPS provides actionable metrics for improvement. Our study fills a gap in research about the use of Child HCAHPS for pediatric QI. A multisite evaluation would provide further information about how the Child HCAHPS survey can improve care.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this paper is to systematize the evidence on the validity and reliability of subjective measurements of satisfaction with healthcare. DATA SOURCES In this qualitative systematic literature review, we searched for relevant publications in PubMed and JSTOR databases. STUDY SELECTION The key inclusion criteria included (i) original research articles in peer-reviewed journals, (ii) year of publication from 2008 onward and (iii) English language publications. DATA EXTRACTION We applied directed qualitative content analysis to the publications included in the review. RESULTS OF DATA SYNTHESIS Overall, 1167 publications are found and screened. Of these, 39 publications that focus on the psychometric properties of the measurement of patient satisfaction are included. The majority of the studies validate the already existing instruments adapted to different contexts; the rest describe psychometric properties of self-developed tools. Psychometric properties are assessed by means of reliability and validity assessment. Reliability assessment is performed via Cronbach alpha and test-retest reliability. Overall, 94.9% of studies find that the satisfaction measures are reliable. Validation is performed by a variety of different methods, among which the most applicable are face validity and factor analysis. Overall, 71.8% of studies find that the satisfaction measures are valid. CONCLUSION Because of the complexity of the studies, we cannot make strong recommendations on the application of self-reported satisfaction measures. We recommend the following key strategies: (i) developing of a unified standard toward satisfaction measurement and (ii) identifying a combination of tools to routinely measure satisfaction. We also suggest to further research the issue of subjectivity reduction.

Abstract
Introduction: Patient reported outcomes establish the patient’s own perception about his/her health and enable the development of policies designed to improve health/disease processes. These are particularly helpful in the case of diseases with a significant impact on the patient’s quality of life.
Objective: To compare the quality of life scores assessed using the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire in patients undergoing cephalic duodenopancreatectomy (Whipple procedure) and laparoscopic cholecystectomies in the same hospital.
Methodology: Retrospective cohort trial between July 2018 and February 2020. Patients programmed for cephalic duodenopancreatectomy were included, regardless of the type of pathology, and over 18 years old. Patients with carcinomatosis or vascular infiltration were excluded. The EQ-5D-5L was administered following Whipple surgery and compared against a control group (laparoscopic cholecystectomy). The demographic characteristics, the diagnosis, hospital stay and 60-day mortality were assessed.
Results: A total of 68 patients were included. The most frequent diagnosis was pancreatic cancer (30 %) in the Whipple group and lithiasis (100 %) in the control group. In the five dimensions assessed, there were no differences in terms of mobility (OR: 0.41, 95 % CI [0.30-0.57], p = 0.103) and in terms of personal care (OR: 0.42, 95 % CI [0.32-0.58], p = 0.254). There was a difference in daily life activities (OR: 0.38, 95 % CI [0.27-0.54], p = 0.017), pain/malaise (OR: 2.33, 95 % CI [0.99-5.48]), p = 0.013 and anxiety/depression (OR: 0.39, 95 % CI [0.28-0.55], p = 0.019). The overall health perception was 80 points for Whipple (IQR 60-90) vs. 100 points for the control group (IQR 90-100).
Conclusions: Patients undergoing a Whipple procedure experience a health perception slightly lower than patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This difference may be associated with increased pain, anxiety/depression and a reduction in their activities of daily life. The administration of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire to measure quality of life is a friendly tool that used be used routinely to plan activities aimed at improving medical care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preoperative education may help participants to psychologically prepare themselves for surgery, but the outcomes of such preparation have rarely been assessed in patients requiring postoperative care in the intensive care unit (ICU) as well as in family members. OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of a preoperative multifaceted education intervention on patient and family satisfaction levels in the ICU and measures of perioperative patients' anxiety and depression. TRIAL DESIGN Single-centre, two-armed, parallel, superiority, randomised controlled trial. Healthcare professionals in ICU and outcome assessor were blinded to treatment allocation. PARTICIPANTS 100 elective coronary artery bypass grafting±valve surgery patients and their family members. INTERVENTIONS Preoperative education comprising of a video and ICU tour in addition to standard care (treatment), versus standard care (control). OUTCOMES Patient and family satisfaction levels with ICU using validated PS-ICU23 and FS-ICU24 questionnaires (0-100), respectively; change in perioperative anxiety and depression scores between 1 day presurgery and 3 days postsurgery. RESULTS Among 100 (50 treatment, 50 control) patients and 98 (49 treatment, 49 control) family members, 94 (48 treatment, 46 control) patients and 94 (47 treatment, 47 control) family members completed the trial. Preoperative education was associated with higher overall patient (mean difference (MD) 6.7, 95% CI 0.2 to 13.2) and family (MD 10.0, 95% CI 3.8 to 16.3) satisfaction scores. There was a weak association between preoperative education and a reduction in patient's anxiety scores over time (MD -1.7, 95% CI -3.5 to 0.0). However, there was no evidence of a treatment effect on patient's depression scores over time (MD -0.6, 95% CI -2.3 to 1.2). CONCLUSION Providing comprehensive preoperative information about ICU to elective cardiac surgical patients improved patient and family satisfaction levels and may decrease patients' anxiety levels. Abstract
CONTEXT Achieving high-quality patient-centered care requires assessing patient and family experiences to identify opportunities for improvement. With the Child Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey, hospitals can assess performance and make national comparisons of inpatient pediatric experiences. However, using patient and family experience data to improve care remains a challenge. OBJECTIVE We reviewed the literature on best practices for monitoring performance and undertaking activities aimed at improving pediatric patient and family experiences of inpatient care. DATA SOURCES We searched PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and PsychINFO. STUDY SELECTION We included (1) English-language peer-reviewed articles published from January 2000 to April 2019; (2) articles based in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada; (3) articles focused on pediatric inpatient care; (4) articles describing pediatric patient and family experiences; and (5) articles including content on activities aimed at improving patient and family experiences. Our review included 25 articles. DATA EXTRACTION Two researchers reviewed the full article and abstracted specific information: country, study aims, setting, design, methods, results, Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives performed, internal reporting description, best practices, lessons learned, barriers, facilitators and study implications for clinical practice, patient-experience data collection, and QI activities. We noted themes across samples and care settings. RESULTS We identified 10 themes of best practice. The 4 most common were (1) use evidence-based approaches, (2) maintain an internal system that communicates information and performance on patient and family experiences to staff and hospital leadership, (3) use experience survey data to initiate and/or evaluate QI interventions, and (4) identify optimal times (eg, discharge) and modes (eg, print) for obtaining patient and family feedback. These correspond to adult inpatient best practices. CONCLUSIONS Both pediatric and adult inpatient best practices rely on common principles of culture change (such as evidence-based clinical practice), collaborative learning, multidisciplinary teamwork, and building and/or supporting a QI infrastructure that requires time, money, collaboration, data tracking, and monitoring. QI best practices in both pediatric and adult inpatient settings commonly rely on identifying drivers of overall ratings of care, rewarding staff for successful implementation, and creating easy-to-use and easy-to-access planning and QI tools for staff.
