Abstract
Abstract
A series of benzo (dibenzo)dioxadiaza and triazamacrocyclic ether compounds carrying 1,2,4-oxadiazole group has been successfully synthesized through N-substitution with 3-p-phenylsubstituted-5-chloromethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles. The structures of all the novel macrocycles were confirmed by spectral/physical data including HRMS measurements.

Abstract
The present paper reports the spectroscopic investigations on the complexation of Cu(II) with two macrocyclic ligands bonded to [60]Fullerene (L1 and L2) measured in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) as solvent. On the basis of UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy applying Jobs method of continuous variation, typical 1:1 stoichiometries were established for the complexes of Cu(II) with L1, and L2. DFT calculations suggested that superior HOMO distributions spread over the nitrogen-donor (as well as somehow oxygen- donor in L2) groups of L1 and L2 macrocycles were the key factor for the observed Kb value enhancement. Thermodynamic stabilities for these complexes have also been determined employing Benesi-Hildebrand equation and the results were compared in terms of their calculated binding constants (Kb). These measurements showed that L1 and L2 bound to these cations stronger than their parent free macrocyclic ligands 1 and 2, respectively. Furthermore, Kb values found for L2 complexes revealed that it could coordinate Cu(II) cation better than L1. Thermodynamic parameters (ΔG, ∆H, and -ΔS) derived from Van't Hoff equation showed that L1 and L2 coordination of Cu(II) cation were occurred due to both enthalpic and entropic factors while the coordination of Cu(II) with their parent macrocyclic ligands 1 and 2 only enjoyed from only enthalpic advantages.

Abstract
The reaction of 15–18 membered benzodiazacrown ethers with salicylaldehyde afforded n-membered O2N2-donor macrocyclic ligands mounted with 1,3-diazacyclohexane subrings (1–4) in high yields. The products were characterized by FT-IR, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and single crystal X-ray studies. The solid state structures revealed strong intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the pendant phenolic group and the tertiary nitrogen of the corresponding macroring.

Abstract
Reaction between 2,6-bis(2-formylphenoxymethyl)pyridine and N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine or tris(2-aminoethyl)amine has been used as the starting point for the synthesis of seven oxa-aza macrocyclic ligands, five of them never reported previously. They all feature different pendant arms, which provide a wide range of coordination possibilities. The Schiff base macrocycles L1 and L4 and their reduced ligands L2 and L5 are derived from 2,6-bis(2-formylphenoxymethyl)pyridine and tris(2-aminoethyl)amine or N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine, respectively. The reaction of L1 with salicylaldehyde forms L3, which features an imine bond in the pendant arm. The ligand L5 has been the precursor for the pendant-armed L6 and L7, by alkylation of the free NH groups with methyl-imidazole or methyl-indole. By a template or a nontemplate approach, we have synthesized different mono- and dinuclear complexes with Y(III), Ln(III), Zn(II), and Cd(II) cations. Both the free macrocyclic ligands and their corresponding metal complexes have been characterized by microanalysis, IR, UVvis, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, FAB mass spectrometry, MS electrospray, and conductivity measurements.Key words: Schiff-base macrocycle, template synthesis, macrocyclic ligand complexes, lanthanide(III) complexes.

Abstract
A series of putative mono- and binuclear copper(II) complexes, of general formulas [CuL](ClO(4)) and [Cu(2)L](ClO(4))(2), respectively, have been synthesized from lateral macrocyclic ligands that have different compartments, originated from their corresponding precursor compounds (PC-1, 3,4:9,10-dibenzo-1,12-[N,N'-bis[(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl)benzyl]diaza]-5,8-dioxacyclotetradecane; and PC-2, 3,4:9,10-dibenzo-1,12-[N,N'-bis[(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl)benzyl]diaza]-5,8-dioxacyclopentadecane). The precursor compound PC-1 crystallized in the triclinic system with space group P(-)1. The mononuclear copper(II) complex [CuL(1a)](ClO(4)) is crystallized in the monoclinic system with space group P2(1)/c. The binuclear copper(II) complex [Cu(2)L(2c)](ClO(4))(2) is crystallized in the triclinic system with space group P(-)1; the two Cu ions have two different geometries. Electrochemical studies evidenced that one quasi-reversible reduction wave (E(pc) = -0.78 to -0.87 V) for mononuclear complexes and two quasi-reversible one-electron-transfer reduction waves (E(1)(pc) = -0.83 to -0.92 V, E(2)(pc) = -1.07 to -1.38 V) for binuclear complexes are obtained in the cathodic region. Room-temperature magnetic-moment studies convey the presence of antiferromagnetic coupling in binuclear complexes [mu(eff) = (1.45-1.55)mu(B)], which is also suggested from the broad ESR spectra with g = 2.10-2.11, whereas mononuclear complexes show hyperfine splitting in ESR spectra and they have magnetic-moment values that are similar to the spin-only value [mu(eff) = (1.69-1.72)mu(B)]. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility study of the complex shows that the observed -2J value for the binuclear complex [Cu(2)L(1b)](ClO(4))(2) is 214 cm(-1). The observed initial rate-constant values of catechol oxidation, using complexes as catalysts, range from 4.89 x 10(-3) to 5.32 x 10(-2) min(-1) and the values are found to be higher for binuclear complexes than for the corresponding mononuclear complexes.
