Abstract
Social determinants of health are social, economic and environmental factors known to influence health and development of infants, children and adults. Advancing equity in brain health relies upon interdisciplinary collaboration and recognition of the impact of social determinants on brain health through the lifespan and across generations. Critical periods of fetal, infant and early childhood development encompass intrinsic genetic and extrinsic environmental influences with complex gene-environment interactions. This review discusses the influence of social determinants on the continuum of brain health from preconception and pregnancy health, through fetal, infant and childhood neurodevelopment into adulthood. Opportunities for intervention to address the social determinants of brain health across the life cycle are highlighted.

Abstract
We assess the prenatal and postnatal effect of the High-Risk Pregnancy and Baby Parenting programme, which is complemented with two mHealth (app-based) resources. The GLM Repeated Measures Model technique was used to explore differences in the emotional health of the participants and in their infants' neurodevelopment, comparing programme versus usual care groups, composed of 150 and 195 participants, respectively. The mothers presented lower levels of depression (mean difference 1.74, p = 0.04, 95% CI 0.07, 3.40) and higher levels of resilience (mean difference 4.09, p = 0.004, 95% CI 1.40, 6.78). For the fathers, positive effects on resilience were recorded (p < 0.001). A positive treatment effect was perceived in the infants' cognitive (p = 0.014), language (p < 0.001) and motor (p = 0.006) development. These findings suggest application of the programme can benefit maternal emotional health and infant neurodevelopment. M-Health technology could make this programme more accessible.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify psychological, medical, and socioenvironmental risk factors for maternal postpartum depression (PPD) and severe psychological distress (SPD) at intensive care nursery discharge among mothers of very preterm infants. STUDY DESIGN We studied 562 self-identified mothers of 641 infants born <30 weeks who were enrolled in the Neonatal Neurobehavior and Outcomes in Very Preterm Infants Study (NOVI) conducted in nine university-affiliated intensive care nurseries. Enrollment interviews collected socioenvironmental data, depression, and anxiety diagnoses prior to and during the study pregnancy. Standardized medical record reviews ascertained prenatal substance use, maternal and neonatal medical complications. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory were administered at nursery discharge to screen for PPD and SPD symptoms, respectively. RESULTS Unadjusted analyses indicated mothers with positive screens for depression (n = 76, 13.5%) or severe distress (n = 102, 18.1%) had more prevalent prepregnancy/prenatal depression/anxiety, and their infants were born at younger gestational ages, with more prevalent bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and discharge after 40 weeks postmenstrual age. In multivariable analyses, prior depression or anxiety was associated with positive screens for PPD (risk ratio [RR]: 1.6, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.1-2.2) and severe distress (RR: 1.6, 95% CI: 1.1-2.2). Mothers of male infants had more prevalent depression risk (RR: 1.7, 95% CI: 1.1-2.4), and prenatal marijuana use was associated with severe distress risk (RR: 1.9, 95% CI: 1.1-2.9). Socioenvironmental and obstetric adversities were not significant after accounting for prior depression/anxiety, marijuana use, and infant medical complications. CONCLUSION Among mothers of very preterm newborns, these multicenter findings extend others' previous work by identifying additional indicators of risk for PPD and SPD associated with a history of depression, anxiety, prenatal marijuana use, and severe neonatal illness. Findings could inform designs for continuous screening and targeted interventions for PPD and distress risk indicators from the preconception period onward. Abstract
BACKGROUND Preterm care involves clinical measures almost exclusively aimed at keeping the preterm alive and ready for discharge from hospital. Children are then enrolled in clinical follow-up care after this stressful period, but mental or specialised care for parents and child is often not embedded in the routine of a neonatal hospital ward and the family is then dependent on institutions for mental health or child health clinics, that is, regular care that is regionally scattered. This study aimed to investigate experiences of parents with regular care and compare them with parents visiting a fixed, specialised, multidisciplinary institute, outside the hospital walls, for preterm follow-up care. METHODS A survey was conducted among 56 parents (regular follow-up care N = 26; multidisciplinary follow-up care N = 30) of children born prematurely. The survey consisted out of items like parents' experiences with follow-up care, like the organisation of care, supportive care, environmental support and experienced stress. RESULTS Parents receiving multidisciplinary follow-up care reported higher levels of satisfaction with organisation of care (F = 5.45; p = 0.023) and supportive care (F = 11.69; p = 0.001) than parents receiving regular follow-up care. Also, it was found that the extent of support from the social environment alleviated stress but only in parents receiving regular follow-up care (ß = -0.47; p = 0.016). CONCLUSIONS The current study findings indicate that experience with follow-up care is valued higher when receiving multidisciplinary care than regular care, and the degree in environmental support alleviates stress in parents receiving regular care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Involvement in caregiving and tailored support services may reduce the risk of mental health symptoms for mothers after their preterm infant's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) discharge. We aimed to compare Family-Centered Care (FCC) with mobile-enhanced Family-Integrated Care (mFICare) on post-discharge maternal mental health symptoms. METHOD This quasi-experimental study enrolled preterm infant (≤ 33 weeks)/parent dyads from three NICUs into sequential cohorts: FCC or mFICare. We analyzed post-discharge symptoms of perinatal post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression using intention-to-treat and per protocol approaches. RESULTS 178 mothers (89 FCC; 89 mFICare) completed measures. We found no main effect of group assignment. We found an interaction between group and stress, indicating fewer PTSD and depression symptoms among mothers who had higher NICU-related stress and received mFICare, compared with mothers who had high stress and received FCC (PTSD: interaction β=-1.18, 95% CI: -2.10, -0.26; depression: interaction β=-0.76, 95% CI: -1.53, 0.006). Per protocol analyses of mFICare components suggested fewer PTSD and depression symptoms among mothers who had higher NICU stress scores and participated in clinical team rounds and/or group classes, compared with mothers who had high stress and did not participate in rounds or classes. CONCLUSION Overall, post-discharge maternal mental health symptoms did not differ between the mFICare and FCC groups. However, for mothers with high levels of stress during the NICU stay, mFICare was associated with fewer post-discharge PTSD and depression symptoms.
