Abstract
Accidents in childhood have a high morbidity and mortality rate and are often preventable, which reinforces the importance of educational measures to prevent unintentional injuries. This study aimed to identify and describe useful educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents in communities. This systematic review was guided by PRISMA (2020) and registered on the PROSPERO platform (ID: CRD42024500956). A search strategy was developed by combining the descriptors "Accident Prevention", "Child", and "Health Education" with the Boolean operator AND, applied to the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS, and SciELO databases. A total of 5,037 studies were located, including observational articles published from 2018 to 2023, with children aged 0-12 years and/or their parents/caregivers. The quality of the studies was assessed based on the Qualitative Studies Checklist and the Research Triangle Institute Item Bank instruments. The bibliographic sample consisted of 30 articles, mostly classified as high quality, with a population of 4,510 adults and 54,190 children from various countries. Educational strategies for accident prevention were described, aimed at parents and guardians, children, and both. This review, addressing innovative educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents, highlights playful approaches for children and visual methods for caregivers. Implementation faces challenges related to evaluation and socioeconomic factors, making rigorous criteria and prolonged follow-ups important for continuous effectiveness.

Abstract
Background There are significant disparities in the burden of disease due to poisoning between children in low- and high-income countries (HICs). However, there is limited data on the impact of increasing pharmaceutical access in low income countries (LICs) and low-middle income countries (LMICs) on the epidemiology of and risk factors associated with poisoning in children in these settings. Furthermore, while strategies in HICs have effectively reduced the burden of disease due to poisonings in children, there is limited information regarding the efficacy of these interventions in LICs/LMICs. Methods We conducted a systematic review in eight databases for literature published between January 2000 to April 2022 to evaluate the epidemiology and risk factors associated with poisonings due to pharmaceuticals and effective strategies to prevent and manage them in children in LICs/LMICs. From 16 061 retrieved articles, 41 were included in the final analysis. Results Pharmaceuticals were a common cause of poisoning in children in LICs/LMICs, occurring in between 12.4% and 72.36% of cases. Major risk factors were unsafe medication storage and inadequate caregiver knowledge. Delayed access to care and younger age were associated with increased mortality. Prevention strategies that included education demonstrated improvements in knowledge; however, their impact on incidence and mortality was unclear. Management strategies detailed individual patient care interventions, most commonly gastric lavage and activated charcoal. Meanwhile, delayed presentation, limited provider knowledge, and inadequate laboratory resources to support therapeutic monitoring hindered optimal management. Conclusions The combination of educational interventions for prevention, along with regulatory processes to maximise medication storage and formulation safety, could be effective in reducing the burden of poisoning in LICs/LMICs. The development of national or regional protocols for the management of common medication poisonings, augmented by the development of poison control centers and expansion of laboratory access in facilities may help reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with pharmaceutical poisonings in children in LICs/LMICs. Further evidence regarding contextual factors, risk and benefit profiles, the pattern of poisoning, and the impact of preventive and treatment interventions specific to LICs/LMICs is needed to better refine recommendations in these settings. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children. However, the epidemiology and prehospital care for pediatric unintentional injuries in Asia are still unclear. METHODS A total of 9,737 pediatric patients aged <18 years with unintentional injuries cared for at participating centers of the Pan-Asian Trauma Outcome Study (PATOS) from October 2015 to December 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were divided into two groups: those <8 and those ≥8 years of age. Variables such as patient demographics, injury epidemiology, Injury Severity Score (ISS), and prehospital care were collected. Injury severity and administered prehospital care stratified by gross national income were also analyzed. RESULTS Pediatric unintentional injuries accounted for 9.4% of EMS-transported trauma cases in the participating Asian centers, and the mortality rate was 0.88%. The leading cause of injury was traffic injuries in older children aged ≥8 years (56.5%), while falls at home were common among young children aged <8 years (43.9%). Compared with younger children, older children with similar ISS tended to receive more prehospital interventions. Uneven disease severity was found in that older children in lower-middle and upper-middle-income countries had higher ISS compared with those in high-income countries. The performance of prehospital interventions also differed among countries with different gross national incomes. Immobilizations were the most performed prehospital intervention followed by oxygen administration, airway management, and pain control; only one patient received prehospital thoracentesis. Procedures were performed more frequently in high-income countries than in upper-middle-income and lower-middle-income countries. CONCLUSIONS The major cause of injury was road traffic injuries in older children, while falls at home were common among young children. Prehospital care in pediatric unintentional injuries in Asian countries was not standardized and might be insufficient, and the economic status of countries may affect the implementation of prehospital care.

Abstract
Temporal trait of crashes has huge impact on road crash occurrence and a large proportion of research have considered different time periods to determine the causes and features of crash occurrence or frequency. Compared with other safety studies based on a single time interval, considerably less research has relied on the use of multiple time units, especially for the time intervals of less than one year. The research aims to fill the gap by investigating the temporal distribution of crash counts using multiple time spans including hour, weekday and month. To illustrate the most accurate results possible, both the Chi-square test and Cochran-Mantel-Haenzel tests were employed to explore the independence of various time units based on two-way and three-way contingency tables. Eight contingency table models were developed which can be classified into four groups including Complete Independence, Joint Independence, Conditional Independence and Homogeneous Association. Finally, a set of evaluation criteria were utilized for evaluation of the model performance. The results revealed the significant association existence in all time variables (hour, weekday, month) and the model with both main and all interactive effects of time variables provides best prediction performance. Also, the findings showed that Hour 18, weekdays 1, 6, 7 (Friday and Weekends), and month 8 (August) have the largest number of crash occurrences. It is suggested that both main and interactive effects of time variables should be included for model development, which otherwise might yield misleading information. It is anticipated that research results will benefit the safety professionals with better understanding of the temporal patterns of crashes with different time periods and allow the safety administrators to allocate the safety resources.
