A systematic study to unravel the potential of using polysaccharides based organic-nanoparticles versus hybrid-nanoparticles for pesticide delivery

Synthesis and Characterization of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Stabilized with Biopolymers for Application in Wound-Healing Mixed Gels

A method for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) gels was developed. ZnO NPs were obtained through a sol-gel method with zinc acetate usage as a precursor. Optimization of the method of synthesis of ZnO NPs gel has been carried out. It was observed that the most stable ZnO NPs gels are formed at room temperature, pH = 8 and molar concentration of zinc C(Zn²⁺) = 0.05-0.2 M. It was shown that the addition of polysaccharide significantly affects the rheological properties and microstructure of ZnO NPs gels. We found that the optimal polysaccharide for the synthesis of ZnO NPs gels is hydroxyethyl cellulose. It is shown that the microstructure of a gel of ZnO NPs stabilized with hydroxyethyl cellulose is represented by irregularly shaped particles that are assembled into aggregates, with sizes ranging from 150 to 1400 nm. A significant hysteresis region is observed in a gel of ZnO NPs stabilized with hydroxyethyl cellulose. The process of interaction of ZnO NPs with polysaccharides was investigated. It was shown that the interaction of ZnO NPs with polysaccharides occurs through a charged hydroxyl group. In the experiment, a sample of a gel of ZnO NPs modified with hydroxyethyl cellulose was tested. It was shown that the gel of ZnO NPs modified with hydroxyethyl cellulose has a pronounced regenerative effect on burn wounds, which is significantly higher than that of the control group and the group treated with a gel of ZnO microparticles (MPs) and hydroxyethyl cellulose. It is also shown that the rate of healing of burn wounds in animals treated with gel of ZnO nanoparticles with hydroxyethyl cellulose (group 3) is 16.23% higher than in animals treated with gel of ZnO microparticles with hydroxyethyl cellulose (group 2), and 24.33% higher than in the control group treated with hydroxyethyl cellulose. The average rate of healing of burn wounds for the entire experimental period in experimental animals of group 3 is 1.26 and 1.54 times higher than in animals of group 2 and control group, respectively. An experimental study of a gel of ZnO NPs modified with hydroxyethyl cellulose has shown the effectiveness of its use in modeling the healing of skin wounds through primary tension.

New Water-Soluble Magnetic Field-Induced Drug Delivery System Obtained Via Preferential Molecular Marriage over Narcissistic Self-Sorting

Nanomaterials that respond to stimuli are of considerable interest for drug delivery applications. Drug delivery has been a leading challenge when it comes to the externally triggered controlled release of hydrophobic drugs. The present paper describes a unique arrangement of polymers in a competitive environment derived from the dynamic self-sorting behavior of the hydrophobic chains of amphiphilic mPEG-PLLA and poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA)-coated iron oxide nanoparticles IONP@PLLA to achieve a core-shell structure in which the hydrophobic PLLA part acts as a dense core and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as an uncrowded shell. By using irreversible covalent interactions created by hydrophobic polymer-functionalized IONPs, it was possible to selectively form socially self-sorted nanocarriers (SS-NCs) with a higher hydrophobic core than the hydrophilic shell over narcissistic self-sorted nanocarriers (NS-NCs), that is, homo-micelles of amphiphilic polymers. The higher hydrophobic core of SS-NCs is indeed helpful in achieving higher drug [doxorubicin (DOX)] loading and encapsulation efficiencies of around 17 and 90%, respectively, over 10.3 and 65.6% for NS-NCs. Furthermore, due to the presence of IONPs and the densely packed hydrophobic compartments, the controlled release of DOX was facilitated by direct magnetism and temperature stimulation when an alternating magnetic field (AMF) was applied. An appreciably higher rate of drug release (∼50%) than that without AMF (∼18%) was achieved under ambient conditions in 24 h. The present study, therefore, proposes a new drug delivery system that exceeds homo-micelles and adds an extra feature of manipulating drug release through magnetism and temperature, that is, hyperthermia.

Magnetic sulfonated polysaccharides as efficient catalysts for synthesis of isoxazole-5-one derivatives possessing a substituted pyrrole ring, as anti-cancer agents

Four polysaccharides (chitosan, cellulose, starch, and pectin) were magnetized with magnetic iron oxide (Fe₃O₄) and then sulfonated (except pectin) with chlorosulfonic acid. The obtained solid acids were used as a catalyst in three-component reactions between N-substituted-2-formylpyrrole, hydroxylamine-hydrochloride, and β-keto esters for the synthesis of 4-(2-pyrrolyl) methylene-isoxazole-5-ones. The optimal catalyst system was selected and studied by IR, SEM, TEM and XRD methods. The diverse isoxazoline derivatives (obtained via a mild and simple approach) were also fully characterized by spectroscopic methods and screened for anti-cancer activities against HT-29 and MCF-7 colon and breast cancer and HEK 293 normal cells. The results revealed interesting anti-cancer activities.

Four magnetic polysaccharides containing acidic groups were used as catalysts for the synthesis of 4-(2-pyrrolyl) methylene-isoxazole-5-ones. The products showed anti-cancer activities.
