Abstract
The safety of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, one of the major challenges to public vaccination, has been controversial. This study assessed the adverse reactions of 9-valent HPV (9vHPV) vaccines. This open-label, observational, multi-center, post-marketing study assessed the safety of 9vHPV administered according to local clinical practice. All post-marketing adverse events (AEs) reports received between December 2019 and November 2021 in Chongqing were analyzed. A total of 1000 individuals aged 16-26 years provided safety data post-vaccination; The most common AEs (60.1%) experienced by 9vHPV vaccine recipients were vaccination-site AEs (pain, swelling, induration) and non-vaccination-site AEs (dizzy, weak, fever). Vaccination-site AEs most were mild-to-moderate in intensity. Discontinuations and HPV 9-related serious AEs were rare (0.3% and 0.0%, respectively). Eight SAEs were reported during the study but none were considered as related to the study vaccine. The 9vHPV vaccine was generally well tolerated in subjects aged 16-26 years; Vaccination-site AEs were more common with 9vHPV.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The persistence of HPV infection is a significant etiological factor in the development of cervical cancer. The present study investigated the prevalence and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) in a cohort of 164,137 unvaccinated women from Wenzhou, aiming to provide guidance for clinics in the cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination strategies. METHODS The present retrospective study included a total of 164,137 women, comprising 118,484 outpatients and 45,653 healthy female subjects recruited from 2015 to 2020. Cervical exfoliated cells were collected from these participants for subsequent DNA extraction. The extracted DNA samples were underwent analysis using a fluorescence in situ hybridization method, encompassing the detection of 27 HPV genotypes. RESULTS The overall prevalence of HPV was 17.35%; this corresponded to a prevalence of 19.10% in the outpatient group and 12.82% in the healthy female group. Among the outpatient group, the five most prevalent HPV genotypes were identified as HPV 52, 58, 16, 53, and 61. In the healthy female group, the five most common HPV genotypes were found to be HPV 52, 53, 58, 61, and 81. Additionally, it was estimated that the highest rate of HPV infection occurred among individuals aged between 10 and 19 years old (44.65%) and those aged between 60 and 69 years old (27.35%). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of HPV in this region is substantial; therefore, it is imperative to implement scientifically sound and rational clinical interventions such as vaccination. Routine cervical screening should be performed to prevent the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia resulting from persistent infection with high-risk HPV, particularly in women with gynecological diseases and those over 60 years old.

Abstract
Objective Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is currently the main cause of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions in women. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of HPV genotypes among women in Yueyang city and to provide a basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer in this city. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 125,604 women who had received treatment from eight hospitals in Yueyang city from September 2019 to September 2022. Analysis of the prevalence of HPV in patients. Results The prevalence of HPV was 20.5% (95%CI: 20.2-20.7%), of which the high-risk type (HR-HPV) accounted for 17.5% (95%CI: 17.3-17.7%) and the low-risk type (LR-HPV) accounted for 5.0% (95%CI: 4.9-5.1%). Among the HR-HPV subtypes, the top five in prevalence, from the highest to the lowest, were HPV52 (5.1%), HPV16(2.7%), HPV58 (2.6%), HPV53 (2.4%), and HPV51 (1.7%). The main LR-HPV infection types were HPV81 (2,676 cases, OR = 2.1%; 95%CI, 2.0-2.1%). Among the infected patients, 19,203 cases (OR = 74.3%; 95%CI, 73.8-74.9%) had a single subtype, 4,673 cases (OR = 18.1%; 95%CI, 17.6-18.6%) had two subtypes, and 1957 cases (OR = 7.6%; 95%CI, 7.3-7.9%) had three or more subtypes. HPV prevalence is highest among women <25 years, 55-64 years and ≥ 65 years of age. Conclusion The prevalence of HPV in women in Yueyang city was 20.5%, with HR-HPV being dominant. As women aged <25 years, 55-64 years, and ≥ 65 years are at a relatively higher risk, more attention should be paid to them for prevention and control of HPV infections.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of HPV and genotype distribution among female populations in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, which can be conducive for local governments to formulate cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine strategies. Methods Cervical swabs were collected from 47,926 participants aged 16-92 years at the Women and Children's Hospital, Xiamen University, from November 2019 to June 2020. HPV DNA was extracted and detected using conventional PCR, followed by HPV subtype-specific hybridisation. HPV infection rates based on different groups were compared using the χ2 test. HPV prevalence and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated using SPSS 19.0. Results The overall HPV prevalence among the 47,926 cervical swabs that were analysed was 15.13%, of which single, double, and multiple infections accounted for 76.83, 16.70 and 6.47%, respectively. The age-specific prevalence of HPV infection presented a "U" curve with a HPV prevalence peak observed in women aged <20 years. The gynaecology clinic group had significantly higher HPV positive rates than the health examination group (p < 0.001). The five most common HR-HPV subtypes in Xiamen were HPV52, 58, 16, 51, and 39 (2.69, 1.63, 1.23, 1.05, and 0.98%, respectively). The five most common LR-HPV subtypes were HPV54, 61, 81, 70, 34, and 84 (0.92, 0.86, 0.71, 0.45 and 0.35%, respectively). Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that the 9-valent HPV vaccine is recommended for regular immunisation in Xiamen. It is necessary for elderly women to participate in HPV screening to decrease the morbidity and mortality of cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Understanding the prevalence and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) is critical for managing HPV vaccination programmes. Using a retrospective cross-sectional study, we examined long-term trends of HPV prevalence in Wenzhou, a coastal city in China. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Cervical exfoliated cells were collected from 127 938 women who underwent cervical cancer screening at the gynaecology outpatient clinic of Wenzhou People's Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020. HPV infections and genotypes were determined. The HPV genotypes were 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 6, 11, 42, 43, 44 and 81. From 2011 to 2014, we used PCR and inflow hybridisation for typing assays. In 2015-2020, HPV genotyping was performed on the collected specimens using PCR and flow fluorescence hybridisation. RESULTS The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 17.8%. Across age groups, the prevalence fluctuated between 15.9% and 37.4%, with two peaks in the ≤20 and ≥51 year groups. The annual prevalence varied between 12.2% and 28.8%, with a significant decrease in 2011-2018 and a flat trend in 2018-2020. The five most common HPV genotypes were HPV52 (3.6%), 16 (3.0%), 58 (2.5%), 53 (1.9%) and 81 (1.3%). The prevalence of high-risk gene subtypes HPV56, 59 and the low-risk subtype HPV44 increased. Single HPV infection was the most common. CONCLUSION The prevalence of HPV in Wenzhou is low to mid-range; however, the high-risk genetic subtypes HPV56 and 59 have increased in recent years. We need to promote HPV vaccination and increase education regarding safer sex.

Background
The infection rate of human papillomavirus (HPV) is high in the coastal regions of China. However, the infection rate among high-risk genotypes of women in Putian City is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to analyse the epidemiology of high-risk HPV infection among women in Putian and provide a reference for the diagnosis, treatment and vaccination of cervical cancer in this region.
Methods
The data used were obtained from the Chinese government’s public health program (“Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Project”). A total of 40,693 female cervical cell exfoliation samples screened for high-risk HPV at the Affiliated Hospital of Putian University from July 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled. DNA was extracted using a fully automatic extractor. Then, 14 high-risk genotypes of HPV were detected by polymerase chain reaction. The characteristics of HPV infection, distribution of high-risk genotypes, infection types and thinprep cytologic test (TCT) classification at different age groups were analysed.
Results
Among the 40,693 samples, 3899 were infected with HPV, with an infection rate of 9.6%. Accordingly, HPV infection rates gradually increased with age, and statistically significant differences were observed among age groups (χ2 = 74.03, P < 0.01). The infection rates of high-risk HPV52, HPV58 and HPV16 were in the top three and increased with age. Single infection was dominant (84.7%), followed by double infections (12.7%). The cervical cytology of 3899 HPV-positive people can be classified into negative for intraepithelial lesion and malignancy (NILM, 88.0%), atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US, 6.6%), atypical squamous cells—cannot exclude high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (ASC-H, 1.4%), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL, 3.2%) and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL, 0.8%). HPV16 infection rate increased with increasing severity of cervical cytology (χ2trend = 43.64, P < 0.01), whereas the infection rates of HPV52 (χ2trend = 13.89, P < 0.01) and HPV58 (χ2trend = 13.50, P < 0.01) showed opposite trends.
Conclusion
The infection rate of female HPV high-risk screening in this region was 9.6% and mainly involved single infections. In addition, HPV16, HPV52 and HPV58 were closely related to the severity of cervical cytology. Effective screening, vaccination and education are needed. The 9-valent vaccine will be effective in reducing cervical pre-invasive disease. It would also be reasonable to state that the rising trend in HPV infection and high grade cytology with age emphasises the need to target older women with screening. Vaccination of younger women (aged ≤ 25) will lay the foundation for better cancer outcomes in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We compared clinical performance of three strategies of primary human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, primary cytology and co-testing for cervical cancer screening. DESIGN A population-based prospective cohort study of clinical performance of screening strategy. SETTING Patients recruited from community in Changzhi County, Shanxi Province, China. PATIENT 3209 women aged 30-64 years without gynaecological issues. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES The performance of different screening strategies for detecting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or more severe (CIN2+). RESULTS A total of 53 CIN2+ and 31 CIN3+ cases are detected. For CIN2+, sensitivity of primary HPV (95.9%) and co-testing (98.0%) are not statistically different, but significantly higher than primary cytology (48.0%). Specificity (86.8%), colposcopy referral rate (7.8%) and number of colposcopies required to detect one case (9.8) for primary HPV are better than co-testing (79.8%, 11.9%, 14.3%, respectively). For CIN3+, primary HPV, co-testing have 100% of sensitivity and specificity, which is significantly higher than primary cytology (56.7% and 90.2%). Number of colposcopies required to detect one case for primary HPV (15.9) is better than co-testing (23.8). CONCLUSIONS Compared with co-testing, HPV primary screening had comparable sensitivity and higher specificity for CIN2+ detection, and both of them showed better performance than cytology primary screening in cervical cancer screening.

Abstract
Background The evaluation of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence rate dynamics and genotype distribution could support the adoption of more targeted prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. We aimed to assess the infection status and genotype characteristics of HPV among gynecological outpatients in Shanghai, China. Methods Clinical specimens were collected from patients attending gynaecological department of the Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, between January 2015 and December 2019. The cervicovaginal infection of 17 high-risk genotypes and 10 low-risk genotypes were analyzed by Luminex-based multiple assays. Results The overall HPV infection rate was 18.81% (95% CI 18.31–19.30%) in Shanghai city, with high-risk, low-risk and mixed high- and low-risk HPV prevalence being 11.65% (95% CI 11.24–12.06%), 4.19% (95% CI 3.94–4.44%) and 2.96% (95% CI 2.74–3.17%), respectively. The five most prevalent high-risk genotypes were HPV-52 (2.95%), HPV-16 (2.34%), HPV-58 (2.07%), HPV-53 (1.67%) and HPV-39 (1.36%). The most common low-risk genotype was HPV-61 (1.52%), followed by HPV-6 (1.29%) and HPV-81 (1.19%). Moreover, the coverage of HPV genotype by nonavalent vaccine was 10.42%, and non-vaccine-covered high-risk genotype was 7.70%. The 15–24 years age group demonstrated the highest HPV prevalence (43.14%), and significant differences were observed among different age groups (P < 0.001). Conclusions This study revealed the HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among women in Shanghai city, which could serve as guidance for HPV vaccination and preventative strategies against cervical cancer in this area. Abstract
Objective The relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical lesions has been extensively elucidated, but infection with multiple genotypes is less investigated due to methodology limitations. In the current study, with a method of genotyping 21 HPVs in a routine cervical screening population, we aimed to investigate the prevalence and diversity of HPV infections in Chinese women and further evaluate the impact of multiple infections of HPV on cervical lesion progression. Methods Totally, 73,596 patients who underwent 21-genotype HPV testing from January 2018 to April 2019 were retrieved from the database of the Department of Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University. HPV testing was performed by real-time PCR assay, including 13 high-risk HPVs (hrHPV), 5 potential hrHPVs, and 3 low-risk HPVs. Results Of the 17,079 (infection rate, 23.2%) hrHPV- or potential hrHPV- (hr/phrHPV-) positive cases, 26.3% had multiple infections. Women younger than 25 and older than 65 were more prone to multiple infections. Of the hr/phrHPV-positive cases involving cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2 or worse (CIN2+), HPV73, 53, and 66 (=59) were the top three genotypes most likely to be included in multiple infections, while HPV16, 18, and 58 were the 3 least. Patients with single infection of HPV16 had higher incidences of CIN2+ than those with multiple-infection pattern (P < 0.001), indicating that mixing with other genotypes alleviated pathogenicity. The infection of HPV52, 53, 56, 51, 39, 66, 59, 68, and 35 showed an opposite pattern, indicating that they were less likely to be pathogens individually. All other types showed no significant differences, indicating the capability of pathogenesis independently. HPV26 showed a higher OR for CIN2+ than most traditional hrHPV genotypes. The vial load and the percentage of HPV16 showed positive correlation with the severity of cervical lesions. Conclusion Extensive genotyping identified 3 most frequent genotypes, HPV16, 52, and 58, in CIN2+ of Chinese population. HPV16 mixing with other genotypes alleviated its pathogenicity. The vial load and the percentage of HPV16 were positively correlated with the severity of cervical lesions. HPV26 may be considered as a hrHPV, which needs to be evaluated and confirmed by more cases.

Abstract
Background Human papillomavirus is a primary cause of cervical cancer and genital warts. HPV vaccine can prevent high-grade cervical lesions as well as cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus among women in Guangxi before and after the HPV vaccine was approved for use in China. Methods From January 2016 to May 2021, 41,140 women were tested for HPV infection. HPV genotyping included 15 high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and 6 low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) genotypes. Total prevalence, annual trend, and specific age group prevalence and genotype distribution were analyzed. Results The overall HPV infection rate was 18.10% among Guangxi women self-referred to clinic for gynecologic problems in southern China. During 2016–2018, the prevalence of HPV infection showed an upward trend, from 18.21% in 2016 to 21.99% in 2018, and later it showed a downward trend, from 18.35% in 2019 to 12.26% in May 2021. Pure HR-HPV genotypes (14.36%) were found in more infections than pure LR-HPV genotypes (2.77%) and mixed genotypes (0.97%). Two peaks of HPV infection were found in the ≤ 25 years (22.94%) and 56–65 years (21.25%) groups. The six most prevalent HR-HPV genotypes were HPV 52 (4.06%), 16 (2.70%), 58 (2.24%), 51 (1.87%), 39 (1.52%), and 53 (1.52%). The three most prevalent LR-HPV genotypes were HPV 6 (1.31%), CP8304 (1.01%), and 11 (0.82%). Infection with a single HR-HPV genotype was the most common type of infection, with an overall infection rate of 12.30%. Infection with two HPV genotypes was the most common multiple HR-HPV infection type, with an infection rate of 2.35%. Conclusions The cervical HPV infection rate of women in Guangxi is very high, and there is significant age specificity. There is a need to increase HPV vaccination of young people and the screening of middle-aged and elderly people.

Abstract
Background Persistent high-risk Human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes infection has been implicated as a causative of cervical cancer. Distribution and genotypes of HPV infection among females and their variations would assist in the formulation of preventive strategy for cervical cancer. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the prevalence of HPV among females in central China. Methods The distribution and genotypes of HPV among 9943 females attending the gynecological examinations in central of China during 2015–2021 were investigated. HPV genotypes were detected using a commercial kit. Nucleotides sequences of L1, E6 and E7 genes in HPV16 or HPV52 positive samples collected in 2021 were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Variations of L1, E6 and E7 in HPV16 and HPV52 were gained by sequencing and compared with the reference sequence. Sublineages of HPV16 and HPV52 were determined by the construction of phylogenetic tree based on L1 gene. Results The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 22.81%, with the infection rate of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) was 19.02% and low-risk human papillomavirus (LR-HPV) was 6.40%. The most top five genotypes of HPV infection were HPV16 (7.49%), HPV52 (3.04%), HPV58 (2.36%), HPV18 (1.65%) and HPV51 (1.61%). Plots of the age-infection rate showed that the single HPV, multiple HPV, HR-HPV, LR-HPV infection revealed the same tendency with two peaks of HPV infection were observed among females aged ≤ 20 year-old and 60–65 year-old. The predominant sublineage of HPV16 was A1 and B2 for HPV52. For HPV16, The most prevalent mutations were T266A (27/27) and N181T (7/27) for L1, D32E for E6 and S63F for E7 in HPV16. For HPV52, all of the nucleotide changes were synonymous mutation in L1 (except L5S) and E7 genes. The K93R mutation was observed in most HPV52 E6 protein. Conclusions The present study provides basic information about the distribution, genotypes and variations of HPV among females population in Henan province, which would assist in the formulation of preventive strategies and improvements of diagnostic probe and vaccine for HPV in this region.

Prevalence and genotype distribution of high-risk human papillomavirus infection among women with cervical cytological abnormalities in Chongqing, China, 2014-2020. Abstract
BACKGROUND Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) is the main leading cause of cervical precancerous lesions and cervical cancer. This study aims to explore the epidemiological characteristics of HR-HPV genotypes and their correlation with the ThinPrep cytological test (TCT) results among women in Chongqing, in China. METHODS In this retrospective study, cervical exfoliations of 14,548 women who visited Chongqing university cancer hospital were collected for detecting HR-HPV genotypes and TCT. RESULTS Overall, the rate of HR-HPV infection was 14.26%. The three most common HR-HPV genotypes are HPV52 (4.39%), HPV58 (2.21%), and HPV16 (1.94%). In this study, the positive rate of cervical TCT was 4.54%. Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US), atypical squamous cells that could not exclude high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (ASU-H), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), and atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance (AGC) were 2.99%, 0.20%, 0.92%, 0.29%, and 0.14%, respectively. Among the several types of cytological lesions, the HR-HPV infection rates of ASC-US, ASC-H, LSIL, HSIL, and (AGC) were 24.82%, 41.38%, 64.18%, 95.24%, and 23.81%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS HPV52, HPV 58, and HPV16 are the most common infection subtypes in Chongqing. When implementing HPV vaccine programs in Chongqing, HPV58 and HPV52 should be attached importance as HPV16 and HPV18.
