Abstract
Aesthetic and cosmetic medical practices have attracted considerable consumer attention globally. However, possible complications vary and range from mild, self-resolving ecchymoses or edema to more persistent complications. The aim of this review is to identify the nutritional deficits or excesses associated with the major complications of reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, and mini-invasive aesthetic procedures. An additional goal is to provide a bundle of actions for professionals working in the industry in order to reduce the risks of aesthetic procedures and improve the clinical outcomes. Granulomas, hypertrophic scars and keloids, seromas, infections and xerosis, hyperpigmentation, petechiae, livedo reticularis, slower wound healing, and other poor outcomes are frequently associated with nutritional deficiencies. Nutritional status can markedly affect wound healing and tissue repair following surgical interventions, as well as the outcomes of aesthetic and cosmetic medical practices. Professionals working in this industry, therefore, need to consider the nutritional aspects of their patients to obtain the best results.

Abstract
Nutrition status plays a critical role in pressure injury (PI) healing and yet the available literature, especially in pediatric patients, is limited. Critically ill pediatric patients are at an increased risk of skin integrity compromise and PI development. Adequate nutritional intake can often be challenging to achieve in this population and immobility and illness present additional obstacles to maintaining skin integrity in this vulnerable population. Despite the unique nutritional challenges and needs of this group, there is no standardized approach to macro- and micronutrient management and monitoring. Here, several key vitamins and minerals believed to play a role in PI healing are discussed and an approach to nutritional management and monitoring for PI healing in pediatric patients is proposed. Registered dietitians (RD) are essential to assess individual patient macro and micronutrient requirements, to identify gaps and make recommendations to optimize nutritional therapy that may exist and impact wound healing. We used a scoping review to focus on the interplay of nutrition and PI healing and inform a multidisciplinary approach to PI identification and management. Through this review, we propose a strategy for the nutritional management of pediatric patients <30 kg at risk for and who present with PI.

Abstract
Clinicians in nearly all practice areas are confronted with the challenges associated with delayed and impaired wound healing. Although nutrition plays a critical role in the healing process, controversy exists regarding the optimal nutrition regimen. This article reviews literature related to nutrition interventions that facilitate wound healing. The limitations of the research that forms the scientific basis of many nutrition recommendations are also examined. The limited availability of rigorously performed clinical studies to develop evidence-based guidelines for nutrition support in wound care emphasizes the need for further research and underscores the importance of individualizing the nutrition care plan for each patient.

Abstract
Short bowel syndrome (SBS) refers to the malabsorptive state caused by physical or functional loss of portions of the small intestine, most commonly following extensive intestinal resection. Such resections hinder absorption of adequate amounts of macronutrients, micronutrients, electrolytes, and water, resulting in malnutrition, diarrhea, and dehydration. Clinical features of SBS vary along a continuum, depending on the extent and anatomy of intestine lost and the ability of the patient and the remaining intestine to compensate for the loss. The impact of SBS can be extensive, leading to diminished health-related quality of life because of its many physical and psychological effects on patients. SBS is associated with decreased survival; risk factors for SBS-related mortality include very short remnant small bowel, end-jejunal remnant anatomy, and arterial mesenteric infarction as primary cause. Although parenteral nutrition and/or intravenous fluid (PN/IV) is a life-saving measure for many patients with SBS, patients with the most severe malabsorption (ie, dependent on PN/IV) are at risk for severe, chronic complications and death. Patients' treatment needs vary depending on disease severity and resection type; thus, each patient should be individually managed. This review discusses the spectrum of disease in patients with SBS and presents common complications encountered by these patients to highlight the importance of individualized management and treatment.

Abstract
Calorie restriction (CR) is a reliable anti-aging intervention that attenuates the onset of a number of age-related diseases, reduces oxidative damage, and maintains function during aging. In the current study, we assessed the effects of CR and other feeding regimens on wound healing in 7-month-old Fischer-344 rats from a larger cohort of rats that had been fed either ad libitum (AL) or 40% calorie restricted based on AL consumption. Rats were assigned to one of three diet groups that received three skin punch wounds along the dorsal interscapular region (12-mm diameter near the front limbs) of the back as follows: (1) CR (n = 8) were wounded and maintained on CR until they healed, (2) AL (n = 5) were wounded and maintained on AL until wound closure was completed, and (3) CR rats were refed (RF, n = 9) AL for 48 h prior to wounding and maintained on AL until they healed. We observed that young rats on CR healed more slowly while CR rats refed for 48 h prior to wounding healed as fast as AL fed rats, similar to a study reported in aged CR and RF mice (Reed et al. 1996). Our data suggest that CR subjects, regardless of age, fail to heal well and that provision of increased nutrition to CR subjects prior to wounding enhances the healing process.

Abstract
Introduction Semi-solid nutrition with high viscosity has the advantage of reducing gastroesophageal reflux and diarrhea and shortens the duration of administration compared with liquid nutrition. This is the first report describing the administration of semi-solid nutrition with high viscosity via a nasogastric tube, which achieved a remarkable improvement in the patient's nutritional state. Case presentation A 67-year-old man (mongoloid race, Japanese) with tuberculosis, a pressure ulcer and malnutrition was admitted to our hospital. He also had right hemiplegia, dysphagia and aphasia as sequelae of a cerebral hemorrhage. Before his admission, he had been treated at another hospital with 600 kcal/day of liquid nutrition via a nasogastric tube, which was insufficient and induced severe malnutrition. After he was admitted to our hospital, we increased the quantity of his liquid nutrition without success because of complications, specifically diarrhea and gastroesophageal reflux. As it was difficult to confirm whether or not he would accept gastrostomy feeding, we administered semi-solid nutrition with high viscosity (20,000 mPa x s) via a large-bore nasogastric tube (18 French). Soon after he was started on semi-solid nutrition, his pressure ulcer and malnutrition improved without diarrhea or complications accompanying the large-bore nasogastric tube. Conclusion When patients have problems with liquid nutrition, such as diarrhea or gastroesophageal reflux, semi-solid nutrition via a nasogastric tube is a useful method of achieving improvements in nutritional state in a short period of time.

Abstract
Modular protein supplements are added to either the diet or enteral formula to increase the protein or amino acid intakes of people who are nutritionally compromised. Protein supplements are aggressively marketed to long-term care clinicians because protein energy malnutrition and wounds are a common problem in this care setting. It can be challenging for clinicians to distinguish one product from another and to determine the best product for a specific application or nutrition care goal. Modular protein products can be sorted into 4 categories: (1) protein concentrates derived from a complete protein such as milk, soy, or eggs; (2) protein concentrates derived from collagen, either alone or in combination with a complete protein; (3) doses of 1 or more dispensable (nonessential) amino acids; and (4) hybrids of the complete or collagen-based proteins and amino acid dose. Modular protein supplements are generally provided either as a substrate for protein synthesis or as a source of 1 or more amino acids that may be conditionally indispensable (conditionally essential) under certain disease conditions. This review provides guidelines for the use of modular protein supplements according to their intended physiologic function and the assessment and nutrition care goals of the long-term care resident.

Abstract
Wound healing is an intricate affair and good nutritional status is essential to promote effective growth and repair of body tissue. Nutrients play vital roles in the constitution of a well-balanced diet and any depletion in a person's nutritional intake, especially proteins, can lead to malnutrition and protein-energy malnutrition, conditions which are known to have considerable impact on health and well-being and on the wound healing process. A holistic nutritional assessment is paramount to the early detection of nutritional deficiency and the use of recognized nutritional assessment tools can significantly increase practitioners' awareness in its undertaking. While nurses are renowned to have a central role in the management of the patient who, nutritionally are at risk, it is equally important to remember that overall management is essentially a multidisciplinary task.

Abstract
Chronically critically ill patients may recover from their acute catastrophic illness but still require intensive nursing care. In the Respiratory Care Unit (RCU) at Mount Sinai Hospital, nurse practitioners, working with nurses and physicians, act as coordinators of care for these patients. This interdisciplinary collaboration is the basis of the RCU wound healing program and has brought about desirable patient outcomes.

Abstract
Nutrition is a crucial aspect of a holistic approach to the healing of wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. Poor nutritional status and support can delay the wound healing process or cause inadequate healing when nutritional deficiencies are not corrected. Nutritional screening is an important part of the overall clinical assessment of patients. Nurses based in hospital and the community have a key role to play in identifying and monitoring patients who may be nutritionally at risk and require nutritional support to aid the wound healing process. Patients' nutritional requirements may need to be met through the use of nutritionally complete supplements or, if oral intake is poor, with enteral or parenteral nutrition.
