Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV), a DNA virus, is a well-documented causative agent of several cancers, including cervical, vulvar, vaginal, penile, anal, and head & neck cancers. Major factors contributing to HPV-related cancers include persistent infection and the oncogenic potential of particular HPV genotypes. High-risk HPV strains, particularly HPV-16 and HPV-18, are responsible for over 70% of cervical cancer cases worldwide, as well as a significant proportion of other genital and head and neck cancers. At the molecular level, the oncogenic activity of these viruses is driven by the overexpression of E6 and E7 oncoproteins. These oncoproteins dysregulate the cell cycle, inhibit apoptosis, and promote the accumulation of DNA damage, ultimately transforming normal cells into cancerous ones. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in HPV-related cancer biology and epidemiology. The review highlights the molecular pathways of HPV-driven carcinogenesis, focusing on the role of viral oncoproteins in altering host cell targets and disrupting cellular signalling pathways. The review explores the therapeutic potential of these viral proteins, and discusses current diagnostic and treatment strategies for HPV-associated cancers. Furthermore, the review highlights the critical role of HPV in the development of various malignancies, emphasizing the persistent challenges in combating these cancers despite advancements in vaccination and therapeutic strategies. We also emphasize recent breakthroughs in utilizing biomarkers to monitor cancer therapy responses, such as mRNAs, miRNAs, lncRNAs, proteins, and genetic markers. We hope this review will serve as a valuable resource for researchers working on HPV, providing insights that can guide future investigations into this complex virus, which continues to be a major contributor to global morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Clove is used in Indian and Chinese traditional medicine for viral diseases. Palmarosa essential oils have been traditionally used in India and Southeast Asia since ancient times and have made considerable use of them. In New Caledonia, niaouli oil is used in aromatherapy and pharmaceutical formulations to treat pain and viral diseases. Since ancient times, the South Pacific region has used tamanu oil as a traditional medicine to treat a wide range of skin conditions. AIM OF THE STUDY This study investigates the antiviral properties of essential oils (EOs) from Eugenia aromaticum (clove oil, CL-R030424005 (CL)), Cymbopogon martinii (palmarosa oil, PA-R040923008 (PA)), Melaleuca viridiflora (niaouli oil, NI-R290124038 (NI)), and Calophyllum inophyllum (tamanu oil, TA-F140224029 (TA)), and their mixture against human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS A D-optimal mixture design is used to determine the most effective EO combinations and evaluate their antiviral efficacy through IC50 values. The EOs were tested for their ability to inhibit HPV-related oncogenes (L1, L2, E1, E2, E6, and E7) in HPV-infected cells with ELISA, qPCR, and Western blot analyses. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The optimal mixture (31.5% CL, 31.5% PA, and 37% NI) demonstrated significant antiviral activity, reducing viral replication and protein expression in HPV-infected cells. Ex-vivo permeation studies showed higher permeation rates in healthy tissues compared to infected ones, indicating the oils' potential in targeted drug delivery. Additionally, cytotoxicity assessments confirmed the safety of the EOs at effective concentrations in HPVCs, DoTc2, and HEKa cells. Molecular docking studies further elucidated the interactions between EO components and HPV proteins, supporting their antiviral mechanisms. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that EOs, particularly in optimized combinations, offer a promising natural supportive treatment for managing HPV infections, warranting further in vivo animal tests and clinical trials.

Abstract
Vaginal reconstruction is necessary for various congenital and acquired conditions, including vaginal aplasia, trauma, tumors, and gender incongruency. Current surgical and non-surgical treatments often result in significant complications. Decellularized vaginal matrices (DVMs) from human tissue offer a promising alternative, but require effective sterilization to ensure safety and functionality. This study aimed to develop a sterilization method for decellularized human vaginal wall scaffolds. Based on our previously implemented decellularization technique with minor modifications, we designed and examined three sterilization methods consisting of (i) chemical decellularization, (ii) decellularization with additional peracetic acid/hydrogen peroxide (PAA/H2O2); (iii) decellularization with antibiotic and antimycotic (AAE) based treatment. Sterilization efficacy was evaluated through controlled contamination with common vaginal microbes and sterility testing subsequent to each sterilization method. The extracellular matrix (ECM) structure was assessed via histological staining. Decellularization alone reduced some added bacterial contaminants but did not achieve complete sterilization. PAA/H2O2-sterilization resulted in severe ECM damage, rendering it unsuitable. The AAE-treatment demonstrated effective sterilization without compromising the ECM structure. Combined decellularization and AAE-based treatment forms a viable sterilization method for human vaginal wall tissue, maintaining ECM integrity and achieving effective micro-organism elimination. This method holds potential for clinical application in vaginal transplantation.

Abstract
Viral outbreaks are common in the sport community. Data regarding the prevalence of plantar warts, genital warts, herpes simplex type 1 (herpes labialis), herpes zoster, and genital herpes in competitive swimmers are lacking in the literature. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of those viral infections among young competitive swimmers participating in Greek swimming clubs. Swimmers' parents and adult swimmers were asked to complete an anonymous questionnaire. In total, 1047 swimmers enrolled in this study. The measured parameters included gender, age, times of infections, and seasons when athletes may be more susceptible to infections. Practicing information such as type of swimming facility, number of training years, average hours of daily training, behaviors in swimming practice, and sunlight exposure was also recorded. All infections showed a significant difference in relation to "age" and "years of training". The gender significance was observed in herpes labialis (p = 0.016) and plantar warts (p = 0.05). The prevalence of all infections in swimmers who use outdoor facilities was higher. Certain behaviors such as walking barefoot on a pool deck and sharing swimming equipment correlate with herpes simplex and plantar warts. Virus infections can affect swimmers of all ages. In our study, plantar warts and herpes labialis are more common in swimmers. Herpes zoster and sexually transmitted viruses are rarer and affect adult swimmers. The impact of cutaneous infections on swimmers can affect performance and well-being. Effective prevention and management are essential to avoid complications. Proper hygiene, medical guidance, and treatment reduce swimmers' exposure to skin viruses.

Abstract
Social media have become crucial communication channels for human papilloma virus (HPV) patients to seek and receive social support that can benefit their physical and psychological health. To promote supportive communication on online social platforms, we analyzed 96,543 messages, including 7,407 posts and 89,136 comments, concerning social support on Baidu HPV Forum, one of China's largest online HPV support groups. We examined factors (i.e., threat and efficacy) in posts requesting social support associated with the amount of social support received in comments. Results revealed that the majority of social support messages received in comments represented informational support, whereas relatively few comments featured instrumental social support. Beyond that, high-threat, non-efficacy posts requesting social support received a greater amount of informational and emotional support in the comments than other types of posts requesting social support. Theoretical and practical implications of our study are discussed as well.

Abstract
The infection of human papilloma virus (HPV) poses a global public health challenge, particularly in regions with limited access to health care and preventive measures, contributing to health disparities and increased disease burden. In this research work, we present a new model to explore the transmission dynamics of HPV infection, incorporating the impact of vaccination through the Atangana-Baleanu derivative. We establish the positivity and uniqueness of the solution for the proposed model HPV infection. The threshold parameter is determined through the next-generation matrix method, symbolized by [Formula: see text]. Moreover, we investigate the local asymptotic stability of the infection-free steady-state of the system. The existence of the solutions of the recommended model is determined through fixed-point theory. A numerical scheme is presented to visualize the dynamical behavior of the system with variation of input factors. We have shown the impact of input parameters on the dynamics of the system through numerical simulations. The findings of our investigation delineated the principal parameters exerting significant influence for the control and prevention of HPV infection.

Abstract
Secondary metabolites and phytochemicals in plant-based diets are known to possess properties that inhibit the development of several diseases including a variety of cancers of the aerodigestive tract. Berries are currently of high interest to researchers due to their high dietary source of phytochemicals. Black raspberries (BRB), Rubus occidentalis, are of special interest due to their rich and diverse composition of phytochemicals. In this review, we present the most up-to-date preclinical and clinical data involving berries and their phytochemicals in the chemoprevention of a variety of cancers and diseases. BRBs possess a variety of health benefits including anti-proliferative properties, anti-inflammatory activity, activation of pro-cell-death pathways, modulation of the immune response, microbiome modulation, reduction in oxidative stress, and many more. However, little has been done in both preclinical and clinical settings on the effects of BRB administration in combination with other cancer therapies currently available for patients. With the high potential for BRBs as chemopreventive agents, there is a need to investigate their potential in combination with other treatments to improve therapeutic efficacy.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is implicated in over 90% of cervical cancer cases, with factors like regional variability, HPV genotype, the population studied, HPV vaccination status, and anatomical sample collection location influencing the prevalence and pathology of HPV-induced cancer. HPV-16 and -18 are mainly responsible for the progression of several cancers, including cervix, anus, vagina, penis, vulva, and oropharynx. The oncogenic ability of HPV is not only sufficient for the progression of malignancy, but also for other tumor-generating steps required for the production of invasive cancer, such as coinfection with other viruses, lifestyle factors such as high parity, smoking, tobacco chewing, use of contraceptives for a long time, and immune responses such as stimulation of chronic stromal inflammation and immune deviation in the tumor microenvironment. Viral evasion from immunosurveillance also supports viral persistence, and virus-like particle-based prophylactic vaccines have been licensed, which are effective against high-risk HPV types. In addition, vaccination awareness programs and preventive strategies could help reduce the rate and incidence of HPV infection. In this review, we emphasize HPV infection and its role in cancer progression, molecular and immunopathogenesis, host immune response, immune evasion by HPV, vaccination, and preventive schemes battling HPV infection and HPV-related cancers.

Abstract
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection and nearly every person who is sexually active will get HPV at some point in their lifetime without having the HPV vaccine. Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) play an essential role in promoting the HPV vaccine and providing education about HPV in communities. Three focus groups with CHWs (n = 17) and HCPs (n = 7) were conducted and led by trained facilitators. In addition to participating in the focus group, CHWs and HCPs completed a brief questionnaire. Focus groups were voice recorded and transcribed for qualitative analysis. Independent coders conducted content analysis to identify the salient themes of the focus groups. Several important findings emerged from this study highlighting the barriers to HPV knowledge, gaps in the self-perceived role of HPV cancer prevention, and opportunities to action. Financial, knowledge, patriarchy, behaviors, attitudes, and fears were identified as the perceived patient-related barriers to promoting HPV cancer prevention. Both CHWs and HCPs explained that their female patients are often discouraged by their husbands from seeking out sexual health-related healthcare. Finding suggest the need for community tailored education on HPV and "best practice" trainings for HPV prevention that is applicable to both CHWs and HCPs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Women's health in resource-limited settings can benefit from the integrated management of high-burden diseases, such as female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) and human papilloma virus (HPV)-related cervical cancer. In schistosomiasis-endemic countries such as Madagascar, data on FGS and HPV prevalence are lacking as well as preventive measures for both conditions. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of FGS and HPV in rural Madagascar, and to examine associated risk factors to identify opportunities for improving women's health. METHODS After initial community outreach activities, interested women aged 18-49 years were recruited consecutively in 2021 at three primary health care centers in the district of Marovoay. FGS was detected by colposcopy. Colposcopy images were double-blind reviewed by two independent specialists. A Luminex bead-based assay was performed on cervical vaginal lavage specimens for HPV typing. Crude (CPR) and adjusted prevalence ratios (APR) of associations between selected factors and FGS and HPV positivity were estimated using univariable and multivariable binary Poisson regression with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Among 500 women enrolled, 302 had complete information on FGS and HPV diagnosis, and were thus eligible for analysis. Within the sample, 189 (62.6%, 95% CI: 56.9-68.1) cases of FGS were detected. A total of 129 women (42.7%, 95% CI: 37.1-48.5) tested positive for HPV. In total, 80 women (26.5%, 95% CI: 21.6-31.8]) tested positive for both conditions. No association was observed between FGS and HPV positivity, while previous pregnancy (APR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.43-0.78) and older age (APR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.42-0.81) are showing a negative association with HPV infection compared to no previous pregnancy and younger age groups. CONCLUSIONS The results of the study show that FGS and HPV are highly prevalent in rural Madagascar. The concurrent prevalence of these two conditions requires urgent adaptations of public health strategies to improve women's health, such as integrated services at primary level of care.

Abstract
Head and neck cancer, one of the most commonly prevalent malignancies globally is a complex category of tumours that comprises cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, and larynx. A specific subgroup of such cancers has been found with some unique chromosomal, therapeutic, and epidemiologic traits with the possibility of affecting via co-infection. About 25% of all head and neck cancers in the population are human papillomavirus infection (HPV)-associated, typically developing in the oropharynx, which comprises the tonsils. In the period of efficient combined antiviral treatment, HPV-positive oral cancers are also becoming a significant contributor to illness and fatality for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-infected persons. Although the prevalence and historical background of oral HPV transmission are not thoroughly understood, it seems likely that oral HPV transmission is relatively frequent in HIV-infected people when compared to the overall population. Therefore, there is a need to understand the mechanisms leading to this co-infection, as there is very little research related to that. Hence, this study mainly focus on the therapeutical and biomedical analysis of HPV and HIV co-infection in the above-mentioned cancer, including oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Globally, both men and women have a 50% risk of being infected at least once in their life. HPV prevalence is among the highest in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), at an average of 24%. HPV causes different types of cancers, including cervical cancer (CC), which is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in SSA. HPV-vaccination has been proven to be effective in reducing HPV induced cancers. SSA countries are delayed in reaching the WHO's target of fully vaccinating 90% of girls within the age of 15 by 2030. Our systematic review aims to identify barriers and facilitators of HPV-vaccination in SSA to inform national implementation strategies in the region. METHODS This is a mixed method systematic review based on the PRISMA statement and The Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers' Manual. Search strategies were adapted to each selected database: PubMed/MEDLINE, Livivo, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and African Journals Online for papers published in English, Italian, German, French and Spanish between 1 December 2011 and 31 December 2021. Zotero and Rayyan were the software used for data management. The appraisal was conducted by three independent reviewers. RESULTS A total of 20 articles were selected for appraisal from an initial 536 articles. Barriers included: limited health system capacities, socio-economic status, stigma, fear and costs of vaccines, negative experience with vaccinations, COVID-19 pandemic, lack of correct information, health education (HE) and consent. Additionally, we found that boys are scarcely considered for HPV-vaccination by parents and stakeholders. Facilitators included: information and knowledge, policy implementation, positive experience with vaccinations, HE, stakeholders' engagement, women's empowerment, community engagement, seasonality, and target-oriented vaccination campaigns. CONCLUSIONS This review synthesizes barriers and facilitators of HPV-vaccinations in SSA. Addressing these can contribute to the implementation of more effective HPV immunization programs targeted at eliminating CC in line with the WHO 90/70/90 strategy. Abstract
Background Understanding the cost-effectiveness of the HPV vaccine from a global perspective is important to assess from a policy perspective and to support current and future HPV vaccination programs. Objectives The aim of this analysis was to conduct a targeted literature review of published pharmacoeconomic literature on the cost-effectiveness of the HPV vaccine to treat patients in various countries, with a focus on cost-savings and their impact on vaccine recommendations. Methods We searched cost-effectiveness studies in HPV published in peer-reviewed literature from 2012 to 2020 using MEDLINE via the PubMed database and Google Scholar. Results HPV vaccine cost-effectiveness was found to be greatest in low-income countries where screen programs were not yet in place, additionally, in adolescent males and females. The majority of the economic evaluations viewed the implementation of the HPV vaccine as cost-effective and recommended national HPV vaccination. Conclusion The majority of economic studies favored national HPV vaccination for adolescent males and females in various countries. Feasibility of this strategy and implementation remains an open question, in addition to screening coverage rate in countries with no vaccine programs or countries yet to introduce national HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the causative agent of cervical cancer and a suspected agent for ovarian and endometrial cancers in women. It is associated with adverse outcomes during pregnancy. To date, there is no estimate of the prevalence of HPV infection in pregnant women at the regional and global levels. This study evaluated the global prevalence of HPV infection based on all observational studies that had reported the prevalence of HPV among pregnant women between January 1980 and December 2021 in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and SciELO databases. We utilised a random-effect model to determine the global prevalence and related risk factors of HPV infection. Between-studies heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistic. Moreover, subgroup and meta-regression analyses were employed to assess the source of heterogeneity and the relationship between HPV prevalence and socio-demographic factors, respectively. Among 144 eligible studies comprising 189 datasets, the overall prevalence rates of HPV at the 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated as 30.38% (26.88%-33.99%), 17.81% (9.81%-27.46%), 32.1% (25.09%-39.67%), 2.26% (0.1%-8.08%) and 25.5% (23.3%-27.8%) in cervico-vaginal, placenta, serum, amniotic fluid and urine samples, respectively. The highest prevalence rates were estimated for countries in the African region, while countries in the European and Eastern Mediterranean regions showed the lowest prevalence rates. HPV-16 and -18 were the most prevalent isolated strains. The pregnant women living with HIV and those with pregnancy disorders had significantly higher prevalence rates than general pregnant women (p < 0.05). The younger ages for first intercourse and pregnancy, multiple lifetime sexual partners, and lower education levels were primary risk factors for HPV infection. In conclusion, although the overall HPV prevalence varied markedly based on sampling sites and geographical locations, the highest prevalence rates were observed in less-developed countries. Our findings imply that implementing behavioural and therapeutic interventions as well as vaccination programs are crucial to prevent and reduce the current burden of HPV infection among pregnant women.

Abstract
Background Genital warts are a common sexually transmitted disease (STD), and there is no method that completely prevents its recurrence. Recently, zinc has been used in the treatment of cutaneous warts. Nondestructive action, ease of use, and promising results with low chances of relapse were reflected in the treatment. These effects may arise from the immunomodulatory activity of zinc in the event of a viral infection. Objectives This study was aimed at identifying the relationship between the serum zinc level and the clinical characteristics of patients with genital warts. Materials and Methods A case-control study was conducted. Genital warts were diagnosed by clinical examination, and disease severity was demonstrated based on the number of affected sites or the spread of lesions. The serum zinc level was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Results A total of 78 patients with genital warts and 78 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. The mean serum zinc level in the genital wart group was lower than that in the control group (81.83 ± 13.99 μg/dL vs. 86.66 ± 17.58 μg/dL); however, this difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The mean concentrations of serum zinc in patients having more than one affected site, spread > 2 cm2, or ten or more lesions were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusions The results suggested that severe genital warts may be associated with a low serum zinc level in patients.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the world. About 70% of cervical cancers are caused by the most oncogenic HPV genotypes of 16 and 18. Since available prophylactic vaccines do not induce immunity in those with established HPV infections, the development of therapeutic HPV vaccines using E6 and E7 oncogenes, or both as the target antigens remains essential. Also, knocking out the E6 and E7 oncogenes in host genome by genome-editing CRISPR/Cas system can result in tumor growth suppression. These methods have shown promising results in both preclinical and clinical trials and can be used for controlling the progression of HPV-related cervical diseases. This comprehensive review will detail the current treatment of HPV-related cervical precancerous and cancerous diseases. We also reviewed the future direction of treatment including different kinds of therapeutic methods and vaccines, genome-editing CRISPR/Cas system being studied in clinical trials. Although the progress in the development of therapeutic HPV vaccine has been slow, encouraging results from recent trials showed vaccine-induced regression in high-grade CIN lesions. CRISPR/Cas genome-editing system is also a promising strategy for HPV cancer therapy. However, its safety and specificity need to be optimized before it is used in clinical setting.

Abstract
The present guidelines aim to provide comprehensive information on genital condyloma acuminata, including the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and management. The guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of genital condyloma acuminata in adults in Asia, including patients with HIV co-infection. METHODOLOGY A PubMed search was performed, using the keywords "condyloma acuminata", "anal wart", "anogenital wart", "genital wart" and "genital HPV". A total of 3031 results were found in publications during last six years. A careful review of the titles and abstracts was done to find all the studies pertaining to epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of condyloma acuminata. DIAGNOSIS Various diagnostic procedures described are: 1. PCR (LE: 2b). 2. Serology (LE: 2b). 3. In-situ hybridization (LE: 3). PREVENTION 1. Vaccination (LE: 1a): Quadrivalent vaccine reduced the frequency of anogenital warts in both vaccinated and unvaccinated contacts. According to the update Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations, the following protocol is recommended: (a). HPV vaccination at age 11 or 12 years for both males and females. (b). Catch-up vaccination for all persons through age 26 years. (c). Shared clinical decision-making regarding potential HPV vaccination for persons aged 27-45 years, who are at risk of new HPV infection. 2. Male circumcision (LE: 2a): conflicting evidence. HIV AND CONDYLOMA ACUMINATA In HIV-affected individuals, the course of HPV is more aggressive, with a greater risk of treatment resistance, increased chances of intraepithelial neoplasia as well as cancers. TREATMENT Physician administered. 1. Photodynamic therapy (LE: 1a). 2. Laser (LE: 2b). 3. Surgery (LE: 1a). 4. Electrosurgery (LE: 2c). 5. Cryotherapy (LE: 1b). 6. Immunotherapy (LE: 1b). 7. Abstract
Papillomaviruses are placed within the family Papillomaviride, and the members of this family have a double-stranded circular DNA genome. Every year, ∼30% of cancers are reported to be human papillomavirus (HPV) related, which represents 63,000 cancers of all infectious agent-induced cancers. HPV16 and HPV18 are reported to be associated with 70% of cervical cancers. The quest for an effective drug or vaccine candidate still continues. In this study, we aim to design B cell and T cell epitope-based vaccine using the two structural major capsid protein L1 and L2 as well as other three important proteins (E1, E2, and E6) against HPV strain 16 (HPV16). We used a computational pipeline to design a multiepitope subunit vaccine and tested its efficacy using in silico computational modeling approaches. Our analysis revealed that the multiepitope subunit vaccine possesses antigenic properties, and using in silico cloning method revealed proper expression and downstream processing of the vaccine construct. Besides this, we also performed in silico immune simulation to check the immune response upon the injection. Our results strongly suggest that this vaccine candidate should be tested immediately for the immune response against the cervical cancer-causing agent. The safety, efficacy, expression, and immune response profiling makes it the first choice for experimental and in vivo setup.

Abstract
Given that heterosexual transmission of HIV across the genital mucosa is the most common route of infection in women, an in-depth understanding of the biological mechanisms associated with HIV risk in the female genital tract (FGT) is essential for effective control of the epidemic. Genital pro-inflammatory cytokines are well-described biological co-factors to HIV risk. Increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the FGT have been associated with a 3-fold higher-risk of acquiring HIV, presumably through involvement in barrier compromise and the recruitment of highly activated HIV target cells to the site of initial viral infection and replication. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and bacterial vaginosis (BV) are suggested possible contributors to genital inflammation in the FGT, and this, coupled with the relationship between genital inflammation and HIV risk, underscores the importance of effective treatment of STI and BV in the promotion of women's health. In most low- and middle-income countries, STIs are treated syndromically, a practice providing rapid treatment without identifying the infection source. However, this approach has been associated with over-diagnosis and the overuse of drugs. Further, because many women with STIs are asymptomatic, syndromic management also fails to treat a vast proportion of infected women. Although several studies have explored the role of STIs and the vaginal microbiome on genital inflammation and HIV risk, the impact of STI and BV management on genital inflammation remains poorly understood. This review aimed to collate the evidence on how BV and STI management efforts affect genital inflammation and the genital microbiome in women.

Abstract
Vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis (BV), chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, candidiasis, and trichomoniasis affect millions of women each year. They are caused by an overgrowth of microorganisms, generally sexually transmitted, which in turn can be favored by alterations in the vaginal flora. Conventional treatments of these infections consist in systemic or local antimicrobial therapies. However, in the attempt to reduce adverse effects and to contrast microbial resistance and infection recurrences, many efforts have been devoted to the development of vaginal systems for the local delivery of antimicrobials. Several topical dosage forms such as aerosols, lotions, suppositories, tablets, gels, and creams have been proposed, although they are sometimes ineffective due to their poor penetration and rapid removal from the vaginal canal. For these reasons, the development of innovative drug delivery systems, able to remain in situ and release active agents for a prolonged period, is becoming more and more important. Among all, nanosystems such as liposomes, nanoparticles (NPs), and micelles with tunable surface properties, but also thermogelling nanocomposites, could be exploited to improve local drug delivery, biodistribution, retention, and uptake in vulvovaginal tissues. The aim of this review is to provide a survey of the variety of nanoplatforms developed for the vaginal delivery of antimicrobial agents. A concise summary of the most common vaginal infections and of the conventional therapies is also provided.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Designing web-based informational materials regarding the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has become a challenge for designers and decision makers in the health authorities because of the scientific and public controversy regarding the vaccine's safety and effectiveness and the sexual and moral concerns related to its use. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to investigate how cultural sensitivity (CS) is articulated in the explanatory informational materials on the HPV vaccine that are posted on the websites of the Israeli health authorities. In addition, the study examined the effect of transparency on the expression of CS in the informational materials. METHODS The study employed a quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the texts of explanatory informational materials published on the Arabic and Hebrew websites of the Israel Ministry of Health and the Clalit health maintenance organization (HMO). RESULTS The findings revealed the differences in the dimensions of CS (based on the CS model by Resnicow) between the informational materials targeting the majority Jewish population and those targeting the minority Arab population. Indeed, the research findings point to a paradox. On the one hand, the materials appealing to the conservative Arab population exhibited CS, in that the sexual context of the vaccine was missing. On the other hand, analysis of Resnicow's deep dimensions showed that disregarding the sexual context does not allow the relevant target audience to reflect on the barriers and concerns. In addition, the way the information was provided exhibited a lack of transparency regarding the CS dimensions (surface and deep). CONCLUSIONS The public health authorities have 2 main objectives in the context of vaccinations. One is to raise the vaccination rates and the other is to provide full and culturally sensitive information to give the public the tools to make intelligent decisions. The findings of this study indicated that despite the high uptake rate for HPV vaccination in the Arab population, the health authorities did not exercise full transparency and CS in transmitting the association between engaging in sexual relations and the necessity of the vaccination. Thus, the major challenge for the health authorities is to find ways to implement the objective of communicating information about the vaccination in a way that is transparent and culturally sensitive, even if this raises questions and fears among the public deriving from their culture.

Abstract
BACKGROUND 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (PDT) for genital warts is effective, safe, and can prevent recurrence. It is believed that PDT can induce immune responses, but the mechanism is not completely understood. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this article are to confirm the effect of PDT for genital warts on local immunity and to investigate the recruitment and significance of immune cells in tissues. METHODS Local immune changes in T lymphocytes (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+), plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) (CD123+), and myeloid dendritic cells (CD1a+) after PDT in patients were evaluated by immunohistochemistry staining. Changes in mRNA levels of IFN-γ, IFN-α, IFN-ß, interferon-stimulated gene 15 kDa (ISG-15), Mx2, Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), and interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF7) were analyzed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS At 4 hours after PDT, CD4+ increased, accompanied by increased levels of mRNA expression of IFN-γ, but CD4+ and mRNA expression levels of IFN-γ were decreased at 24 hours after PDT. CD123+ pDCs showed an increasing trend. CD1a+ LCs in the epidermis gradually decreased, and DCs in the epidermis gradually increased. CD3+ infiltrated and migrated to the superficial dermis, but CD8+ did not change significantly after PDT. The mRNA expression levels of IFN-α, IFN-ß, ISG-15, Mx2, TLR9, and IRF7 showed an increasing trend after PDT. As compared with the patients without significantly increased IFN-α and IFN-ß after PDT sessions, patients with significant increases needed fewer sessions of PDT for remission. CONCLUSIONS PDT for genital warts can activate T lymphocyte-mediated, DC-related, and pDC-related immunity. The clinical efficacy of PDT for genital warts may be related to the increased levels of IFN-α and IFN-ß after treatment.

Abstract
Condyloma Acuminatum is a sexually transmitted viral disease caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). It is the most common viral sexually transmitted disease. In this randomized controlled trial, cantharidin was found to be more effective and better tolerated than trichloroacetic acid for the treatment of these lesions. Patients treated with cantharidin healed with less scarring than those treated with TCA (P<0.034), had less pain during treatment (P<0.01), and required fewer treatments to eradicate warts (P<0.01) when compared to Trichloroacetic acid.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical morphology of anogenital warts may vary from flat, filiform, papular, or verrucous to giant condyloma acuminatum. Clinically atypical-looking genital warts may alarm the clinician because of their suspected malignant potential, which may cause anxiety, often leading to aggressive interventions. OBJECTIVE To study if clinically atypical-looking anogenital warts are more likely to be premalignant or malignant as compared to typical warts. METHOD Data of 41 (37 males, 4 females) patients with anogenital warts was retrospectively analyzed. After a detailed literature review and in-house discussions, criteria for anogenital warts with typical and atypical clinical morphology were defined. Clinical photographs were independently reviewed by three dermatologists, and human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping results, histological evaluation, and immunohistochemical analysis for p53 expression were evaluated. RESULTS Fifteen (36.6%) anogenital warts were classified as atypical by at least two of three blinded dermatologists. The histological examination showed mitotic figures in 31/41 (75.6%) specimens, dysplasia in 14/41 (44.1%) specimens, and p53 positivity in 34/41 (82.9%) specimens. There was no significant difference in the high-risk HPV genotyping (P = 0.67), frequency of dysplastic changes on histology (P = 0.19), and immunohistochemistry with p53 (P = 0.08) between clinically typical and atypical-appearing anogenital warts. Similarly, no significant difference was found in the frequency of dysplastic changes (P = 0.67) or p53 expressions (P =0.41) based on the HPV genotypes. CONCLUSIONS The atypical clinical morphology of anogenital warts may not be a marker of increased malignant potential. High-risk HPV genotypes do not have a statistically significant association with dysplasia or positive immunohistochemistry with p53.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and is linked to anogenital cancers. College-aged males are at high risk for contracting HPV due to a lack of HPV knowledge and low vaccination rates. NPs are responsible for providing this education and in return can help reduce infection transmission.

Abstract
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is the most frequent malignant complication of transplantation in childhood. Even with modern post-transplant immunosuppressive strategies, 1-2% of all kidney transplant recipients will develop PTLD within the first 5 years after transplantation, and the risk remains high even thereafter as long as immunosuppression is required. In addition to PTLD, adult kidney transplant recipients have an increased incidence of other immunosuppression-related malignancies, such as non-melanoma skin cancer or Kaposi's sarcoma. It is foreseeable that pediatric transplant recipients will face similar complications during their adult life. Not only immunosuppression but also other risk factors have been identified for some of these malignancies. Strategies addressing these risk factors during childhood may contribute to life-long cancer prevention. Furthermore, early recognition and regular screening may facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, thereby reducing transplant-related morbidity. In this review we focus on malignant complications after renal transplantation and discuss known risk factors. We also review current screening strategies for malignancies during post-transplant follow-up.

Abstract
PURPOSE The worldwide prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is estimated at 9-13 %. Persistent infection can lead to the development of malignant and nonmalignant diseases. Low-risk HPV types are mostly associated with benign lesions such as anogenital warts. In the present systematic review, we examined the impact of smoking on HPV infection and the development of anogenital warts, respectively. METHODS A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE database for peer-reviewed articles published from January 01, 1985 to November 30, 2013. Pooled rates of HPV prevalence were compared using the χ (2) test. RESULTS In both genders, smoking is associated with higher incidence and prevalence rates for HPV infection, whereas the latter responds to a dose-effect relationship. The overall HPV prevalence for smoking patients was 48.2 versus 37. 5 % for nonsmoking patients (p < 0.001) (odds ratio (OR) = 1.5, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.4-1.7). Smoking does also increase persistence rates for high-risk HPV infection, while this correlation is debatable for low-risk HPV. The incidence and recurrence rates of anogenital warts are significantly increased in smokers. CONCLUSIONS Most current data demonstrate an association between smoking, increased anogenital HPV infection, and development of anogenital warts. These data add to the long list of reasons for making smoking cessation a keystone of patient health.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVE To compare sexual attitudes and behaviors of young women who have received or declined the HPV vaccine. DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. SETTING Obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics clinics at a large, Midwestern, academic health center. PARTICIPANTS 223 young women (ages 13-24): 153 who had received HPV vaccination and 70 with no prior HPV vaccination. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Sexual behaviors; attitudes toward sexual activity. RESULTS Vaccinated young women were slightly but significantly younger than unvaccinated (mean age 19.2 vs 20.0). Both groups showed a large percentage of participants engaging in high-risk sexual behavior (75% vs 77%). The mean age at sexual debut was not significantly different between the groups (16.8 vs 17.0) nor was the average number of sexual partners (6.6 for both). Unvaccinated participants were more likely to have been pregnant (20% vs 8.6%, P = .016), although this difference was not significant in multivariate analysis CI [0.902-5.177]. Specific questions regarding high-risk sexual behaviors and attitudes revealed no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSION We found that sexual behaviors, including high-risk behaviors, were similar between young women who had and had not received HPV vaccination. Our findings provide no support for suggestions that the vaccine is associated with increased sexual activity. Importantly, we found that young women in our population are sexually active at a young age and are engaged in high-risk behaviors, affirming the importance of early vaccination.
