Abstract
Cancer's global impact necessitates innovative and less toxic treatments. Thiosemicarbazones (TSCs), adaptable metal chelators, offer such potential. In this study, we have synthesized N (4)-substituted heterocyclic TSCs from syringaldehyde (TSL1, TSL2), and also report the unexpected copper-mediated cyclization of the TSCs to form thiadiazoles (TSL3, TSL4), expanding research avenues. This work includes extensive characterization and studies such as DNA/protein binding, molecular docking, and theoretical analyses to demonstrate the potential of the as-prepared TSCs and thiadiazoles against different cancer cells. The DFT results depict that the thiadiazoles exhibit greater structural stability and reduced reactivity compared to the corresponding TSCs. The docking results suggest superior EGFR inhibition for TSL3 with a binding constant value of - 6.99 Kcal/mol. According to molecular dynamics studies, the TSL3-EGFR complex exhibits a lower average RMSD (1.39 nm) as compared to the TSL1-EGFR complex (3.29 nm) suggesting that both the thiadiazole and thiosemicarbazone examined here can be good inhibitors of EGFR protein, also that TSL3 can inhibit EGFR better than TSL1. ADME analysis indicates drug-likeness and oral availability of the thiadiazole-based drugs. The DNA binding experiment through absorption and emission spectroscopy discovered that TSL3 is more active towards DNA which is quantitatively calculated with a Kb value of 4.74 × 106 M-1, Kq value of 4.04 × 104 M-1and Kapp value of 5 × 106 M-1. Furthermore, the BSA binding studies carried out with fluorescence spectroscopy showed that TSL3 shows better binding capacity (1.64 × 105 M-1) with BSA protein. All the compounds show significant cytotoxicity against A459-lung, MCF-7-breast, and HepG2-liver cancer cell lines; TSL3 exhibits the best cytotoxicity, albeit less effective than cisplatin. Thiadiazoles demonstrate greater cytotoxicity than the TSCs. Overall, the promise of TSCs and thiadiazoles in cancer research is highlighted by this study. Furthermore, it unveils unexpected copper-mediated cyclization of the TSCs to thiadiazoles.

Abstract
The development of an effective and selective chemosensor for CN- ions has become the need of the hour due to their hazardous impact on the environment and humans. Herein, we report the synthesis of two novel chemosensors, IF-1 and IF-2 based on 3-hydroxy-2-naphthohydrazide and aldehyde derivatives that have shown selective sensing of CN- ions. IF-2 exhibited exclusive binding with CN- ions that is further confirmed by the binding constant value of 4.77 × 104 M-1 with a low detection limit (8.2 μM). The chemosensory potential is attributed to deprotonation of the labile Schiff base center by CN- ions that results in a color change from colorless to yellow as visible by the naked eye. Accompanying this, a DFT study was also performed in order to find the interaction between the sensor (IF-1) and its ions (F-). A notable charge transfer from 3-hydroxy-2-naphthamide to 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-methylphenol, was indicated by the FMO analysis. The QTAIM analysis revealed that in the complex compound, the strongest pure hydrogen-hydrogen bonding was observed between H53 and H58, indicated by a ρ value of +0.017807. Due to its selective response, IF-2 can be successfully used for making test strips for the detection of CN- ions.

Abstract
A new series of sensors SM-1 to SM-3 was designed and synthesized using indole carboxaldehydes (2a-2c) and 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine. Accompanied by the synthesis, density functional theory investigation was also accomplished at the M06-2X/6-311G+(d,p) functional. A reduction in band gap (ΔE = 4.702-4.230 eV) along with a bathochromic shift (λmax = 433.223-471.584 nm) was seen in deprotonated chromophores than their neutral sensors. Further, significant charge transference from indole toward dinitrophenyl hydrazine was also examined. Global reactivity parameters also expressed the greater stability of sensors than that of their deprotonated form. SM-3 displayed high selectivity toward F ions as compared to SM-1 and SM-2, which respond to both F- and CN- ions. The electronic absorption spectrum was recorded in CH3CN. The sensor SM-3 showed high selectivity toward F- ions with a low detection limit (8.69 × 10-8), and the binding constant for SM-3 was determined as 7.7 × 105. The sensor displayed naked eye views as the color of solution changed from mustard to purple with a red shift of 96 nm. The mechanism suggests deprotonation from the NH group, which was confirmed by 1H NMR. The sensor is found to be useful for detection of F- ions in the real sample and for analytical application (test strip).

Abstract
Chemosensors are molecular devices which react with target and give a visible signal, which is a degree of its sensitivity. Herein, a novel coumarin based Schiff Base has been synthesized for F- ions detection. The chemosensor showed an intense color change upon the addition of F- ions (light yellow to purple). The chemosensor has fewer effects of competing anions. The limit of detection is calculated as low as 1.1 × 10-6 and the binding constant was determined as 1.61 × 104. The job's plot confirmed 1:1 stoichiometry between chemosensor and F- ion. The reverse reaction of chemosensor with MeOH is useful to construct a combinatorial logic circuit gates. The interaction mechanism of chemosensor was deliberated by 1H NMR, FTIR, and DFT studies. Finally, the chemosensor was useful to detect F- ions in tooth-paste sample and test strip is prepared for F- ions detection.

Abstract
A series of xanthene-based thiazoles was synthesized and characterized by different scpectroscopic methods, i.e. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H NMR), carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (13 C NMR), infrared spectroscopy, carbon hydrogen nitrogen analysis, and X-ray crystallography. The inhibition potencies of 18 newly synthesized thiazole derivatives were investigated on the activities of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), α-amylase (α-Amy), and α-glycosidase (α-Gly) enzymes in accordance with their antidiabetic and anticholinesterase ability. The synthesized compounds have the highest inhibition potential against the enzymes at low nanomolar concentrations. Among the 18 newly synthesized molecules, 3b and 3p were superior to the known commercial inhibitors of the enzymes and have a much more effective inhibitory potential, with IC50 : 2.37 and 1.07 nM for AChE, 0.98 and 0.59 nM for BChE, 56.47 and 61.34 nM for α-Gly, and 152.48 and 124.84 nM for α-Amy, respectively. Finally, the optimized 18 compounds were subjected to molecular docking to describe the interaction between thiazole derivatives and AChE, BChE, α-Amy, and α-Gly enzymes in which important interactions were monitored with amino acid residues of each target enzyme.

Abstract
The phenomenon of corrosion threatens metallic components, human safety, and the economy. Despite being eco-friendly and promising as a corrosion inhibitor, acridine has not been explored to its full potential. In this review, we have discussed multiple biological activities that acridines have been found to show in a bid to prove that they are environmentally benign and much less toxic than many inhibitors. Some synthetic routes to acridines and substituted acridines have also been discussed. Thereafter, a multitude of acridines and substituted acridines as corrosion inhibitors of different metals and alloys in various corrosive media have been highlighted. A short mechanistic insight into how acridine-based compounds function as corrosion inhibitors have also been included. We believe this review will generate an impression that there is still much to learn about previously reported acridines. In the wake of recent surges to find efficient and non-toxic corrosion inhibitors, acridines and their analogs could be an appropriate answer.

Abstract
A promising naphthalene-functionalized ratiometric chemosensor (E)-1-((naphthalen-5-yl) methylene)-2-(2,4-dinitrophenyl) hydrazine (DNMH) is unveiled in the present work. DNMH demonstrates brisk discernible colorimetric response from yellow to red in the presence of CN−, a lethal environmental contaminant, in a near-perfect aqueous medium with a LOD of 278 nM. The “key role marker” controlling the electrochemical and non-covalent H-bonding interaction between DNMH and CN− is through the commendable role of acidic –NH functionalities. Kinetic studies reveal a pseudo second order reaction rate and the formation of an unprecedented photostable adduct. The negative value of ΔG as evaluated from ITC substantiates the spontaneity of the DNMH⋯CN− interaction. The sensing mechanism was further reinforced with state-of-the-art theoretical investigations, namely DFT, TDDFT and Fukui indices (FIs). Moreover, the proposition of a reversible multi-component logic circuitry implementing Boolean functions in molecular electronics has also been triggered by the turn-over spectrophotometric response of the ditopic ions CN− and Cd2+. The cytotoxicity of DNMH towards Bacillus thuringiensis and Escherichia coli is successfully investigated via the MTT assay. Impressively, “dip stick” and “easy to prepare” test paper device and silica gel-based solid-phase CN− recognition validate the on-site analytical application of DNMH. Furthermore, the involvement of a synergistic approach between ‘chemistry beyond the molecule’ and ‘engineering’ via an exquisitely implemented smartphone-assisted colorimetric sensory prototype makes this work unprecedented among its congeners and introduces a new frontier in multitudinous material-based functional product development. A ratiometric chemosensor (DNMH) is unveiled herein, demonstrating selective chromogenic response towards CN−, with a LOD of 278 nM. Consequently, molecular logic circuitry and a smartphone-based colorimetric sensory prototype has been explored.![]()

Abstract
High toxicity and extensive accessibility of fluoride and cyanide ions in diverse environmental media encouraged attention for scheming well-organized probes for their detection. Keeping in mind we have designed and synthesized thiosemicarbazone-based chemosensors RB-1, RB-2 and RB-3 for the detection of fluoride and cyanide ions. The structural elucidation of the synthesized chemosensors is done by employing different analytical techniques including nuclear magnetic resonance and electronic absorption specrtoscopies. Admirable detection limit, binding constant and fast response time (2 s) to F− and CN− ions enlarged the applications of these chemosensors. Additional confirmation of the sensing ability of these chemosensors is derived from DFT and TDDFT calculations with M06/6-311G(d,p) method by performing FMO, UV–Vis, QTAIM and global reactivity parameters elucidation. Overall results point out that investigated chemosensors are suitable candidates for sensing the F− ions. These chemosensors were successfully applied to detect F− ions in a commercial toothpaste sample.

Abstract
Anion sensing have attained immense importance as these charged ions are prevailing in agriculture industry and in heavy industry and therefore in the environment around us, chemosensors are commencing to claim several applications as their role is being better perceived day by day. In the current study, coumarin based thiosemicarbazone R-1 (phenyl moiety) and R-2 (benzyl moiety) were synthesized. It was observed that there were variations in the sensing patterns of compound bearing benzyl group, as compared to the simple phenyl group bearing receptor. Different techniques were used to confirm the interaction of coumarin based receptors with anions. These techniques included naked-eye test, UV-visible, 1H NMR, and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized receptors showed selectivity for fluoride ions. Benesi-Hildebrand equation was employed for determining the detection limits and binding constants values. Abstract
New-generation chemosensors desire small organic molecules that are easy to synthesise and cost-effective. As a new interdisciplinary area of research, the integration of these chemosensors into keypad locks or other advanced communication protocols is becoming increasingly popular. Our lab has developed new chemosensor probes that contain 2-nitro- (1-3) and 4-fluoro-cinnamaldehyde (4-6) and applied them to the anion recognition and sensing process. Probes 1-6 are colorimetric sensors for naked-eye detection of AcO-/CN-/F-, while probes 4-6 could differentiate between F- and AcO-/CN- anions in acetonitrile. Using the density functional theory (DFT), it was found that probes 1-6 acted as effective chemosensors. By using Probe 5 as a chemosensor, we explored colorimetric recognition of multiple anions in more detail. Probe 5 was tested in combination with a combinatorial approach to demonstrate pattern-generation capability and its ability to distinguish among chemical inputs based on concentration. After pattern discrimination using principal component analysis (PCA), we examined anion selectivity using DFT computation. In our study, probe 5 demonstrates excellent performance as a chemosensor and shows promise as a future molecular-level keypad lock system.

Abstract
C-2 and C-5 substituted imidazole skeleton was synthesized through a one-pot two-step strategy. Synthesized molecule emits the light on ESIPT (excited-state intramolecular proton transfer). This molecule was utilized for its proton donor ability, and we have observed that fluoride and cyanide ions can be detected selectively. Different cations and anions were selected to observe the response of the synthesized molecule. However, there were not any fluorometric and colorimetric response except for fluoride and cyanide ions. Detection limits of fluoride and cyanide ions were found to be 9.22 μM and 11.48 μM, respectively. 1H-NMR spectra for the solution of the sensor and TBAF (tetrabuthylammoniumfluoride) were used for the identification of [L]-[HF2]- species. 3 equiv. TBAF saturated the solution of the sensor in d6-DMSO, and some of the proton resonances shifted to upfield due to the through-bond effect. The disappearance of NH proton with 0.5 equiv. TBAF or TBACN (tetrabuthylammoniumcyanide) showed that there was a proton abstraction by fluoride and cyanide ions, instead of the hydrogen bond. Solid-state application was utilized, and paper test strips were applied. Emission differences emerged when the sensor loaded strips were reacted with TBAF. Time resolved experiments revealed that solution of the sensor and TBAF in DMSO have multiexponential decay, and one of the lifetime was measured as 13.4 ns.

Abstract
The new benzimidazole based receptor Lansoprazole has been used to detect carbonate anion by naked-eye and Uv-Vis spectroscopy. This receptor revealed visual changes withCO 3 2 - anion in ethanol. No detectable color changes were observed upon the addition of any other tested anions. The lansoprazole chemosensor selectively recognizesCO 3 2 - ion over the other interference anions in the ethanol, followed by deprotonation and reflected 1:1 complex formation between the receptor and the carbonate ion. Lansoprazole exhibits splendid selectivity toward carbonate ion via a visible color change from colorless to yellow with a detection limit of 57 μM. The binding mode ofCO 3 2 - to receptor L is supported by Density Functional Theory calculation. Moreover, this receptor shows a practical visible colorimetric test strip for the detection of carbonate ions. The transition states calculation demonstrates the occurrence of reaction from L to L-CO 3 2 - after overcoming an energy barrier of 10.1 kcal/mol, and there is considerable interaction energy between L andCO 3 2 - (94.9 kJ/mol), both of which confirmed that receptor L has high sensitivity and selectivity to the carbonate ion. The theoretical studies were performed to acquire an electronic description of the complexation mechanism byCO 3 2 - as well as to study bonding and structure in the complex. The optimized structures and binding mechanisms were supported with a high correlation and agreement by spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

Abstract
Development of economical, sensitive, selective and robust sensors for metal ion sensing is always fascinating for a chemist because traditional routs for their detection involve complicated instrumentation and critical sample preparation procedures. A large number of metal ion detectors including carbon dots (CDs) have been reported for sensitive and selective detection of metal ions. This review comprehensively explores the use of CDs as metallic cation sensors. CDs are being fabricated from variety of carbon sources by employing various synthetic channels. CDs are proved to be efficient colorimetric and fluorimetric detectors due to surface oxygen moieties which are responsible to co-ordinate with metal ions. Doping of CDs with hetero atom such as N, S, B etc. may further enhance their activity toward metal detection. Therefore, designing of CDs having selective sensing properties with low detection limits has gained significant interest.HighlightsCDs have gained much attention as chemical sensors due to their dynamic features i.e. less toxicity, stability, solubility in various solvents, absorption in UV/Vis. region, fluorescence and tunable physico-chemical properties. These are coast effective, sensitive and selective colorimetric and fluorimetric metal ion sensors.Detection of metal ions by CDs involves different mechanisms such as complexation, aggregation, electron transfer, inner filter effect etc.LOD data is an evidence of their greater efficiency.

Abstract
Cyclophanediene (CPD)-dihydropyrene (DHP) is a negative T-type photochrome pair having a thermodynamically stable colored form, i.e., DHP. Interconversion between cyclophanediene and dihydropyrene is associated with significant changes in dipole moment, absorption wavelength and polarizability, which can impart substantial linear and nonlinear optical response. In this study, phototunable linear and nonlinear optical response of cyclophanediene-dihdyropyrene photoswitches is described. Cyclophanedienes and dihydropyrenes are functionalized at the internal position for maximum changes in volume and polarizability. The UV-Vis spectra are calculated at ɷB97XD, which was validated through a benchmark approach. An excellent correlation is observed between theoretical and experimental absorption spectra. Several CPD-DHP pairs have been recognized for clean interconversion in UV-Vis light without formation of a photostationary state. Nonlinear optical response of dihydropyrenes is remarkably higher than that of cyclophanedienes. In general, the calculated hyperpolarizability values of dihydropyrenes are about two to three orders of magnitude higher than those for cyclophanedienes. The trends in calculated hyperpolarizabilities are rationalized through two level method. The high nonlinear optical response of dihydropyrenes stems from low excitation energies. The remarkable difference in hyperpolarizabilities of these isomeric forms paves path for the design of phototunable nonlinear optical materials.

Abstract
Electrochemical, surface morphology, density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulation methods were employed in investigating the effects of (2E,2′E)-2,2′-(3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-phenyl-3,4,6,7-tetrahydroacridine-1,8(2H,5H,9H,10H)-diylidene)bis(N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide) (IAB-NP), (2E,2′E)-2,2′-(3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-phenyl-3,4,6,7-tetrahydroacridine-1,8(2H,5H,9H,10H)-diylidene)bis(N-(2,4-difluorophenyl)hydrazinecarbothioamide)IAB-ND) and (2E,2′E)-2,2′-(3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-phenyl-3,4,6,7-tetrahydroacridine-1,8(2H,5H,9H,10H)-diylidene)bis(N-(2-fluorophenyl) hydrazinecarbothioamide) (IAB-NF) on mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution. From the studies, compounds IAB-NP, IAB-ND and IAB-NF inhibit mild steel corrosion in the acid and the protection efficiencies were found to increase with the increase in concentration of each compound. At the optimum inhibitor concentration of 1.5 × 10−4 M, the inhibition efficiencies (%) of the compounds are in the order IAB-NF (90.48) > IAB-ND (87.48) > IAB-NP (85.28). Potentiodynamic polarization measurements revealed that all the compounds acted as mixed-type corrosion inhibitors. Experimental data for the adsorption of the studied molecules on a mild steel surface in 1 M HCl fitted into the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the standard free energies of adsorption (ΔGoads) suggested both physisorption and chemisorption mechanisms. Scanning electron microscopy analyses confirmed the formation of a protective film on the mild steel surface by the inhibitor molecules, resulting in protection of the metal from corrosive electrolyte ions. The experimental findings were corroborated by both theoretical density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulation studies. Three novel acridine-based thiosemicarbazones were investigated for their corrosion inhibition potentials on mild steel in 1 M HCl using combined electrochemical, DFT and Monte Carlo simulation techniques.![]()
