Schooling behavior driven complexities in a fear-induced prey-predator system with harvesting under deterministic and stochastic environments

The well-being of humans is closely linked to the well-being of species in any ecosystem, but the relationship between humans and nature has changed over time as societies have become more industrialized. In order to ensure the future of our ecosystems, we need to protect our planet's biodiversity. In this work, a prey-predator model with fear dropping prey's birth as well as death rates and nonlinear harvesting, is investigated. In addition, we consider that the consumption rate of predators, i.e., the functional response, is dependent on schooling behavior of both species. We have investigated the local stability of the equilibrium points and different types of bifurcations, such as transcritical, saddle-node, Hopf and Bogdanov-Takens (BT). We find that consumption rate of predator, fear and harvesting effort give complex dynamics in the neighbourhood of BT-points. Harvesting effort has both stabilizing and destabilizing effects. There is bistability between coexistence and predator-free equilibrium points in the system. Further, we have studied the deterministic model in fluctuating environment. Simulation results of stochastic system includes time series solutions of one simulation run and corresponding phase portraits. Notably, several simulation runs are conducted to obtain time series solutions, histograms, and stationary distributions. Our findings exhibit that during stochastic processes, model species fluctuate around some average values of the deterministic steady-state for lower environmental disturbances. However, higher values of environmental disturbances lead the species to extinction.

Coloured-noise-induced transport in a model of the thermochemical reactor

In this paper, effects of coloured noise on the stochastic excitement in a model of the thermochemical flow reactor are studied. Transport phenomena associated with noise-induced generation of large-amplitude oscillations are investigated depending on the correlation time of coloured noise. We study how probability of the noise-induced excitement is related to the stochastic sensitivity of the system to coloured noise with certain correlation characteristics. Parameter zones of the high stochastic sensitivity are found and discussed in connection with occurrence of resonance. Sensitivity analysis of stochastic attractors and noise-induced transitions for population model with Allee effect

We study a stochastically forced predator-prey model with Allee effect. In the deterministic case, this model exhibits non-trivial stable equilibrium or limit cycle corresponding to the coexistence of both species. Computational methods based on the stochastic sensitivity functions technique are suggested for the analysis of the dispersion of random states in stochastic attractors. Our method allows to construct confidence domains and estimate the threshold value of the intensity for noise generating a transition from the coexistence to the extinction.

Stochastic bifurcations in a bistable Duffing-Van der Pol oscillator with colored noise

This paper aims to investigate Gaussian colored-noise-induced stochastic bifurcations and the dynamical influence of correlation time and noise intensity in a bistable Duffing-Van der Pol oscillator. By using the stochastic averaging method, theoretically, one can obtain the stationary probability density function of amplitude for the Duffing-Van der Pol oscillator and can reveal interesting dynamics under the influence of Gaussian colored noise. Stochastic bifurcations are discussed through a qualitative change of the stationary probability distribution, which indicates that system parameters, noise intensity, and noise correlation time, respectively, can be treated as bifurcation parameters. They also imply that the effects of multiplicative noise are rather different from that of additive noise. The results of direct numerical simulation verify the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the largest Lyapunov exponent calculations indicate that P and D bifurcations have no direct connection.

Memory-enhanced energetic stability for a fractional oscillator with fluctuating frequency

The long-time limit behavior of the variance and the correlation function for the output signal of a fractional oscillator with fluctuating eigenfrequency subjected to a periodic force is considered. The influence of a fluctuating environment is modeled by a multiplicative white noise and by an additive noise with a zero mean. The viscoelastic-type friction kernel with memory is assumed as a power-law function of time. The exact expressions of stochastic resonance (SR) characteristics such as variance and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) have been calculated. It is shown that at intermediate values of the memory exponent the energetic stability of the oscillator is significantly enhanced in comparison with the cases of strong and low memory. A multiresonancelike behavior of the variance and SNR as functions of the memory exponent is observed and a connection between this effect and the memory-induced enhancement of energetic stability is established. The effect of memory-induced energetic stability encountered in case the harmonic potential is absent, is also discussed.

Resonant behavior of a fractional oscillator with fluctuating frequency

The long-time behavior of the first moment for the output signal of a fractional oscillator with fluctuating frequency subjected to an external periodic force is considered. Colored fluctuations of the oscillator eigenfrequency are modeled as a dichotomous noise. The viscoelastic type friction kernel with memory is assumed as a power-law function of time. Using the Shapiro-Loginov formula, exact expressions for the response to an external periodic field and for the complex susceptibility are presented. On the basis of the exact formulas it is demonstrated that interplay of colored noise and memory can generate a variety of cooperation effects, such as multiresonances versus the driving frequency and the friction coefficient as well as stochastic resonance versus noise parameters. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the cooperation effects are also discussed. Particularly, two different critical memory exponents have been found, which mark dynamical transitions in the behavior of the system.

Constructive influence of noise flatness and friction on the resonant behavior of a harmonic oscillator with fluctuating frequency

The influences of noise flatness and friction coefficient on the long-time behavior of the first two moments and the correlation function for the output signal of a harmonic oscillator with fluctuating frequency subjected to an external periodic force are considered. The colored fluctuations of the oscillator frequency are modeled as a trichotomous noise. The study is a follow up of the previous investigation of a stochastic oscillator [Phys. Rev. E 78, 031120 (2008)], where the connection between the occurrence of energetic instability and stochastic multiresonance is established. Here we report some unexpected results not considered in the previous work. Notably, we have found a nonmonotonic dependence of several stochastic resonance characteristics such as spectral amplification, variance of the output signal, and signal-to-noise ratio on the friction coefficient and on the noise flatness. In particular, in certain parameter regions spectral amplification exhibits a resonancelike enhancement at intermediate values of the friction coefficient.

The role of noise in a predator-prey model with Allee effect

The existence and implications of alternative stable states in ecological systems have been investigated extensively within deterministic models. However, it is known that natural systems are undeniably subject to random fluctuations, arising from either environmental variability or internal effects. Thus, in this paper, we study the role of noise on the pattern formation of a spatial predator-prey model with Allee effect. The obtained results show that the spatially extended system exhibits rich dynamic behavior. More specifically, the stationary pattern can be induced to be a stable target wave when the noise intensity is small. As the noise intensity is increased, patchy invasion emerges. These results indicate that the dynamic behavior of predator-prey models may be partly due to stochastic factors instead of deterministic factors, which may also help us to understand the effects arising from the undeniable susceptibility to random fluctuations of real ecosystems.

Stochastic analysis of a pulse-type prey-predator model

A stochastic Lotka-Volterra model, a so-called pulse-type model, for the interaction between two species and their random natural environment is investigated. The effect of a random environment is modeled as random pulse trains in the birth rate of the prey and the death rate of the predator. The generalized cell mapping method is applied to calculate the probability distributions of the species populations at a state of statistical quasistationarity. The time evolution of the population densities is studied, and the probability of the near extinction time, from an initial state to a critical state, is obtained. The effects on the ecosystem behaviors of the prey self-competition term and of the pulse mean arrival rate are also discussed. Our results indicate that the proposed pulse-type model shows obviously distinguishable characteristics from a Gaussian-type model, and may confer a significant advantage for modeling the prey-predator system under discrete environmental fluctuations.
