Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a dengue intervention program in economically deprived urban regions of India, with a particular emphasis on housing conditions and community involvement. Given the global significance of dengue fever as a vector-borne disease, successful vector management requires effective community engagement. Study Design: A quasi-experimental study. METHODS This study was conducted with 314 participants from Delhi's Sanjay Colony, divided into control and intervention groups. The study spanned 14 months (August 2020 to September 2021). The intervention program comprised two educational sessions held one month apart, covering dengue awareness, health self-care, and environmental maintenance. Data were collected at baseline, after each intervention session, and during a final follow-up assessment three months later. RESULTS The primary outcome, the house index (HI), revealed statistically significant differences (P<0.001) favoring the intervention group. The total score (TS) for mosquito-borne disease, TS of knowledge, TS of attitude, and TS of practices all exhibited significant improvements in the intervention group. Participants showed an enhanced understanding of dengue causes, symptoms, and mosquito behavior related to breeding and biting. The HI in the intervention group decreased significantly from 21.65% to 4.45% (P<0.05). CONCLUSION This study, grounded in the health belief model (HBM), demonstrated the effectiveness of the intervention program in reducing HI and improving knowledge and preventive practices regarding dengue fever in impoverished urban neighborhoods of Delhi. The intervention program may be beneficial in such a poor urban community.

Abstract
Background Dengue is one of the health problems in Myanmar. Thus, health promotion in schools is considered a key approach for reducing risk-taking behaviours related to dengue. Objectives The study aimed to evaluate a dengue training programme for high school students to measure changes in knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) towards dengue; evaluate the effectiveness of the programme in improving prevention and control practices among families and determining changes in larval indices in their dwelling places. Methodology The dengue school training programme was conducted for Grades 9 and 10 students in Yangon. In total, 300 students in the intervention school received training and were compared with 300 students as control. KAP was assessed using a self-administered questionnaire, whereas larval and control practice surveys were conducted at the homes of both groups 3 months before and after the programme. Results The KAP scores of the intervention group increased after the programme. Moreover, the programme improved prevention and control practices and decreased the larval indices in the intervention group. Students from the same group with high scores in knowledge and self-reported practices were less likely to exhibit Aedes larval positivity in their residential areas. Conclusion This study demonstrated the impact of the dengue training programme on the KAP of students and short-term family larval control practices, which influenced household larval indices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dengue is prevalent among the indigenous community due to impoverished living conditions near the forest fringe areas and lack of health awareness. The study aims to determine the effect of a dengue awareness calendar on knowledge, belief, and practices (KBP) among the indigenous population. METHOD A cross-sectional study was conducted in nine selected indigenous villages in Selangor, Malaysia. A dengue awareness calendar was distributed to the indigenous communities after pre-intervention. The KBP scores were compared between the pre-and post-intervention. RESULT A total of 609 paired responses were obtained. Knowledge, perceived severity, cues to action, self-efficacy, and prevention practices were significantly improved after the intervention (p > 0.00). Participants with primary (Odds Ratio (OR) 2.627; 95% CI 1.338-5.160) and secondary level education (OR 2.263; 95% Cl 1.126-4.550) reported a high increment in practices score. High increments in dengue knowledge scores (OR 2.190; 95% CI 1.521-3.757, p < 0.00) were significantly more likely to report a high increment in practices score. Housewives (OR 0.535; 95% Cl 0.289-0.950), perceived severity (OR 0.349; 95% CI 0.184-0.662), and perceived susceptibility (OR 0.474; 95% CI 0.286-0.785) were significantly less likely to report an increment in prevention practices score. CONCLUSION Findings inferred that the dengue awareness calendar significantly improved knowledge and practices. Our findings revealed the effectiveness of the dengue awareness calendar in dengue prevention among indigenous communities.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of developing and using a model to predict dengue risk in villages and of a larval indices surveillance system for 2372 households in 10 Thai villages. A community participatory action research method was used in five steps: (1) community preparation covering all stakeholders, (2) assessment of the understanding of a dengue solution and a larval indices surveillance system, (3) development of a prediction and intervention model for dengue risk villages, (4) implementation of the model that responds to all stakeholders, and (5) evaluation of the effects of using the model. The questionnaires to assess and evaluate were validated and reliability tested. The chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used to analyze the quantitative data collected by means of questionnaires. Thematic analysis was applied to the qualitative data collected through interviews. The results found that the model consisted of six main activities, including (1) setting team leader responsibility, (2) situation assessment, (3) prediction of the dengue risk in villages, (4) the six steps of the larval indices surveillance system, (5) the understanding of the dengue solution and the understanding of the larval indices surveillance system training program, and (6) local wisdom innovation. The effects of using the model showed a statistically significant increase in correct understanding among 932 family leaders, 109 village health volunteers, and 59 student leaders regarding dengue prevention and control (p < 0.05). The larval indices and dengue morbidity were diminished and related to the nine themes present in the community leaders' reflections and to the satisfaction of the community members. Hence, local administrative organizations should use community-based approaches as the subdistrict dengue solution innovation to reduce the dengue problem.

Abstract
Simple Summary Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection caused by the Aedes mosquito, expanding at an alarming pace around the world. Recently, Pakistan has witnessed some major dengue outbreaks, affecting thousands of individuals across the country. As there is no specific cure or vaccine, prevention and vector control remain the key methods to avoid dengue infection. In Pakistan, dengue control activities are mainly focused on information-sharing through mass media and communication materials such as pamphlets and posters. The main challenge is a lack of community participation that can create an enabling environment for communities to follow the desired behaviors. There is a strong need to design and implement community-led behavior change approaches to ensure community participation and translate the knowledge into practices. This study was conducted to better understand the effectiveness of a community engagement approach, ‘positive deviance’, on dengue prevention and control. The study was carried out in two slums affected by the recent dengue outbreak in Islamabad, Pakistan. A total of 112 persons participated in the study, which was conducted from June–October 2020. The community discovered already-existing positive behaviors surrounding dengue prevention and control, which were shared with other participants through interactive activities. The study demonstrated positive changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices, and could be a potential tool for dengue prevention and control programs worldwide. Abstract Dengue is a mosquito-borne, viral disease that has emerged as a global health concern in recent years. In the absence of specific antiviral treatment and vaccines, prevention remains the key strategy for dengue control. Therefore, innovative and community-driven approaches are required to improve the vector control practices. This study applied and evaluated the positive deviance (PD) approach on dengue prevention and control in selected slums of Islamabad during June–October 2020. The two most dengue-affected slums, the Faisal colony and France colony, were purposively selected as intervention and control groups, respectively. A total of 112 participants (56 for the intervention and 56 for the control group) participated in the study. The intervention group was exposed for two months to locally identified role model behaviors through weekly interactive sessions, dengue sketch competitions, and role plays. Another two months enabled the community to practice these behaviors without any external support in order to explore the intervention’s sustainability. Three surveys were conducted: before the intervention, after two months, and after four months, to assess any changes in the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of participating communities. Results found that the PD intervention had a significant positive impact on dengue knowledge, attitudes, and practices in the intervention group. PD could offer an empowering and efficient community engagement tool for future dengue prevention and control, both in Pakistan and more globally.
