Watermarking in the space/spatial-frequency domain using two-dimensional Radon-Wigner distribution

Ownership Protection on Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Using Transform-Based Watermarking

This research aims to protect Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data from piracy or counterfeiting. An invisible watermark inserted into the data, which will not considerably change the data value, is necessary. The proposed method involves the use of the two-dimensional discrete cosine transform (2D DCT), a combination of 2D DCT and discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform (2D DFT) in the frequency domain. The data used include a National DEM file downloaded from the geoportal of the Geospatial Information Agency (Badan Informasi Geospasial—BIG). Three files represent mountainous, lowland/urban, and coastal areas. An “attack” is also conducted on the watermarked DEM by cropping. The results indicate that the watermarked DEM is well recognized. The watermark can be read 100% for 2D DCT, while that for 2D DFT can be read 90.50%. The distortion value of the elevation data under the DCT technique demonstrates the smallest maximum value of 0.1 m compared with 4.5 and 1.1 m for 2D DFT and 2D DCT–DWT. Meanwhile, the height difference (Max Delta), the peak signal-to-noise ratio, and the root mean squared error (RMSE) are highest in mountainous, lowland, and coastal areas, respectively. Overall, the 2D DCT is also superior to the 2D DFT and the2D DCT–DWT. Although only one can recognize the nine watermarks inserted on each sheet, DEMs attacked by the cropping process can still be identified. However, this finding can sufficiently confirm that DEMs belong to BIG.

Convolutional Neural Network Architecture for Recovering Watermark Synchronization

In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network-based template architecture that compensates for the disadvantages of existing watermarking techniques that are vulnerable to geometric distortion. The proposed template consists of a template generation network, a template extraction network, and a template matching network. The template generation network generates a template in the form of noise and the template is inserted into certain pre-defined spatial locations of the image. The extraction network detects spatial locations where the template is inserted in the image. Finally, the template matching network estimates the parameters of the geometric distortion by comparing the shape of spatial locations where the template was inserted with the locations where the template was detected. It is possible to recover an image in its original geometrical form using the estimated parameters, and as a result, watermarks applied using existing watermarking techniques that are vulnerable to geometric distortion can be decoded normally.

An application of multidimensional time-frequency analysis as a base for the unified watermarking approach

A watermarking approach based on multidimensional time-frequency analysis is proposed. It represents a unified concept that can be used for different types of data such as audio, speech signals, images or video. Time-frequency analysis is employed for speech signals, while space/spatial-frequency analysis is used for images. Their combination is applied for video signals. Particularly, we focus on the 2-D case: space/spatial-frequency based image watermarking procedure that will be subsequently extended to video signal. A method that selects coefficients for watermarking by estimating the local frequency content is proposed. In order to provide watermark imperceptibility, the nonstationary filtering is used to model the watermark which corresponds to the host signal components. Furthermore, the watermark detection within the multidimensional time-frequency domain is proposed. The efficiency and robustness of the procedure in the presence of various attacks is proven experimentally.

Estimation of time-varying velocities of moving objects by time-frequency representations

An approach to the estimation of motion parameters of moving objects in a video-sequence, by using the SLIDE (subspace-based line detection algorithm) algorithm, is considered. The proposed procedure projects video-frames to the coordinate axes, in order to obtain synthetic images containing information about the motion parameters. These synthetic images are mapped to the FM signals by using constant mu-propagation. The problem of velocity estimation is reduced to the instantaneous frequency (IF) estimation. IF estimators, based on time-frequency (TF) representations, are used. Three TF representations: spectrogram (SPEC), Wigner distribution (WD), and S-method (SM), are used and compared to this aim. A tradeoff between concentration of the TF representation (velocity estimation accuracy) and reduction of the cross-terms (possibility for estimation of the multiple objects parameters) is achieved by the SM. A performance analysis of the algorithm is done. Theoretical results are illustrated on several numerical examples.
