Abstract
Liquid biopsy, a noninvasive diagnosis that examines circulating tumor components in body fluids, is increasingly used in cancer management. An overview of relevant literature emphasizes the current state of liquid biopsy applications in cancer care. Biomarkers in liquid biopsy, particularly circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor RNAs (ctRNA), circulating tumor cells (CTCs), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and other components, offer promising opportunities for early cancer diagnosis, treatment selection, monitoring, and disease assessment. The implementation of liquid biopsy in precision medicine has shown significant potential in various cancer types, including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Advances in genomic and molecular technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) and digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR) have expanded the utility of liquid biopsy, enabling the detection of somatic variants and actionable genomic alterations in tumors. Liquid biopsy has also demonstrated utility in predicting treatment responses, monitoring minimal residual disease (MRD), and assessing tumor heterogeneity. Nevertheless, standardizing liquid biopsy techniques, interpreting results, and integrating them into the clinical routine remain as challenges. Despite these challenges, liquid biopsy has significant clinical implications in cancer management, offering a dynamic and noninvasive approach to understanding tumor biology and guiding personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have emerged as a pivotal tool that enables molecular interrogation of patient tumor cells and association with clinical outcomes. In prostate cancer specifically, where tumor biopsies from patients with bone metastasis are extremely challenging, CTCs offer a viable and established source of tumor "biopsy". While the prognostic value of CTC enumeration in metastatic prostate cancer is established, there is a compelling need for molecular CTC characterization for effective patient stratification and disease management. The clinical utility of CTCs has been advanced by the evolution of enrichment technologies and their molecular characterization. Enrichment technologies have evolved from strictly EpCAM-based enrichment to antigen-agnostic enrichment, while their clinical utility has evolved from enumeration to advanced downstream analyses including CTC proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics. This chapter offers a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in CTC enrichment and analytical technologies while highlighting pivotal clinical studies in prostate cancer, that utilize CTCs to determine the molecular basis of clinical response and resistance, to assist in disease management and treatment customization.

Abstract
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most frequent type of cancer in men and assessing circulating tumor cells (CTCs) by liquid biopsy is a promising tool to help in cancer early detection, staging, risk of recurrence evaluation, treatment prediction and monitoring. Blood-based liquid biopsy approaches enable the enrichment, detection and characterization of CTCs by biomarker analysis. Hence, comprehending the molecular markers, their role on each stage of cancer development and progression is essential to provide information that can help in future implementation of these biomarkers in clinical assistance. In this review, we studied the molecular markers most associated with PCa CTCs to better understand their function on tumorigenesis and metastatic cascade, the methodologies utilized to analyze these biomarkers and their clinical significance, in order to summarize the available information to guide researchers in their investigations, new hypothesis formulation and target choice for the development of new diagnostic and treatment tools.

Abstract
Background Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been identified as a prognostic biomarker of tumors such as breast cancer and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, because they are obtained through a simple and noninvasive blood draw or liquid biopsy, but its clinical significance in osteosarcoma is still unclear. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between CTCs and clinicopathological features and discussed whether CTCs could be used as a biomarker for metastasis in osteosarcoma. Methods We enrolled 50 osteosarcoma patients with Enneking Stage IIB and Stage III and detected CTCs in 5 ml of peripheral blood samples collected from patients using the Canpatrol® CTC detection platform. Subsequently, multiplex RNA in situ hybridization (RNA-ISH) based on various molecular markers was performed to identify and classify CTCs. The relationships between clinical pathological features and CTC counts, subtypes (epithelial type, E type; hybrid epithelial/mesenchymal type, H type; mesenchymal type, M type), and insulin-like growth factor mRNA-binding protein 3 (IMP3) expression in CTCs were analyzed. Results CTCs were detected in 86% (43/50) of the osteosarcoma patients. The CTC counts, especially the total CTCs and H-type CTCs, signifcantly differed between Enneking Stage IIB and Stage III patients (P < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between the CTC count or type and other clinicopathological features (P > 0.05). There were significant differences in the expression of IMP3 in different types of CTCs, and the IMP3 positive rates in E/H/M type CTCs were 38.4, 65.6, and 62.0%, respectively (P < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that IMP3-positive CTC count had the best performance for diagnostic metastasis, with the largest area under the curve of 0.873 and cutoff value of four cells/5ml blood (sensitivity = 87.5%; specificity = 82.4%). Serial CTC monitoring in one patient suggested that total CTCs and H-type CTCs were associated with disease progression. Conclusion This study demonstrates that the CTCs, especially the IMP3-positive CTCs and H/M-type CTCs, are related to the metastasis of osteosarcoma.

Abstract
Castrate-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is the lethal form of prostate cancer. Epithelial mesenchymal plasticity (EMP) has been associated with disease progression to CRPC, and prostate cancer therapies targeting the androgen signalling axis, including androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), promote EMP. We explored effects of castration on EMP in the tumours and circulating tumour cells (CTCs) of patient-derived xenograft (PDX)-bearing castrated mice using human-specific RT-qPCR assays and immunocytochemistry. Expression of prostate epithelial cell marker KLK3 was below detection in most tumours from castrated mice (62%, 23/37 mice), consistent with its known up-regulation by androgens. Endpoint tumour size after castration varied significantly in a PDX model-specific pattern; while most tumours were castration-sensitive (BM18, LuCaP70), the majority of LuCaP105 tumours continued to grow following castration. By contrast, LuCaP96 PDX showed a mixed response to castration. CTCs were detected in 33% of LuCaP105, 43% of BM18, 47% of LuCaP70, and 54% of LuCaP96 castrated mice using RPL32 mRNA measurement in plasma. When present, CTC numbers estimated using human RPL32 expression ranged from 1 to 458 CTCs per ml blood, similar to our previous observations in non-castrated mice. In contrast to their non-castrated counterparts, there was no relationship between tumour size and CTC burden in castrated mice. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering of the gene expression profiles of CTCs collected from castrated and non-castrated mice revealed distinct CTC sub-groups within the pooled population that were classified as having mesenchymal, epithelial, or EMP hybrid gene expression profiles. The epithelial signature was only found in CTCs from non-castrated mice. Hybrid and mesenchymal signatures were detected in CTCs from both castrated and non-castrated mice, with an emphasis towards mesenchymal phenotypes in castrated mice. Post-castration serum PSA levels were either below detection or very low for all the CTC positive samples highlighting the potential usefulness of CTCs for disease monitoring after androgen ablation therapy. In summary, our study of castration effects on prostate cancer PDX CTCs showed that CTCs were often detected in the castrate setting, even in mice with no palpable tumours, and demonstrated the superior ability of CTCs to reveal residual disease over the conventional clinical biomarker serum PSA.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical significance of the expression of the stemness marker CD133 in circulating tumor cells of newly diagnosed metastatic castration‐sensitive prostate cancer patients. Methods For this study, 104 metastatic castration‐sensitive prostate cancer patients treated at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center from September 2015 to February 2017 were considered. After enrollment, the patients received androgen deprivation therapy (bicalutamide + goserelin). Circulating tumor cells were isolated and identified using the CanPatrol system, which can identify not only traditional epithelial markers but also mesenchymal markers in cells that have undergone epithelial mesenchymal transition. CD133 was used to characterize the circulating tumor cells. The primary endpoint of this research was to evaluate progression to castration resistance. Results Among the 104 patients enrolled, 89 patients were circulating tumor cell positive at baseline, and the median circulating tumor cell count was four. The median follow‐up was 24 months, and at the end of follow‐up, the proportion of patients who progressed to castration‐resistant prostate cancer in the CTC+CD133+ group was 93.3%, which was significantly higher than that of the circulating tumor cell negative group (73.3%) and the CTC+CD133− group (75.0%), with P = 0.043. After follow‐up, progression‐free survival for CTC+CD133+, CTC+CD133−, and circulating tumor cell patients was 10.0, 13.0, and 14.0 months, respectively, with P = 0.022. Univariate and multivariate analyses also confirmed that the characterization of circulating tumor cells using CD133 can independently predict progression‐free survival in metastatic castration‐sensitive prostate cancer patients after receiving androgen deprivation therapy (P = 0.042; hazard ratio 1.396). Conclusion Baseline CTC+CD133+ was a poor independent prognostic factor for metastatic castration‐sensitive prostate cancer patients to progress to castration‐resistant prostate cancer after receiving androgen deprivation therapy.

Abstract
PurposeGrowing evidence shows that circulating tumor cells (CTCs) become more aggressive after the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), though the clinical significance of CTCs undergoing EMT in oligometastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (omHSPC) patients has not yet been reported. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to detect the CTC level and investigate the clinical significance of mesenchymal CTCs in omHSPC patients who underwent cytoreductive radical prostatectomy (CRP).Materials and MethodsBlood samples were drawn from 54 omHSPC patients who underwent CRP. The CanPatrol CTC enrichment technique was applied to isolate and identify different phenotypes of CTCs, which were classified as epithelial (E-CTCs), mesenchymal (M-CTCs), or biphenotypic epithelial/mesenchymal (Bi-CTCs). Univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses were employed to investigate potential prognostic factors for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC)-free survival and cancer-specific survival (CSS). The prognostic value of CTCs for CSS and mCRPC-free survival was assessed using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Kaplan–Meier analysis.ResultsCTCs were detected in 51 of 54 patients (94%). E-CTC, M-CTC, and Bi-CTC detection rates were 56%, 67%, and 85%, respectively. A positive correlation was found between the M-CTC count and number of bone metastases (p = 0.012). Time-dependent ROC analysis showed that the M-CTC count had higher predictive power than E-CTC or Bi-CTC for mCRPC-free survival (3-year area under the curve [AUC] values: 0.64, 0.60, and 0.61) and CSS (3-year AUC: 0.86, 0.58, and 0.67). Additionally, time-dependent ROC analysis revealed total CTCs (T-CTCs) ≥5 and M-CTCs ≥2 to be the cutoff points with optimal specificity and sensitivity. Based on multivariable Cox regression, T-CTC and M-CTC counts were both independently associated with CSS and mCRPC-free survival (all p < 0.05), though E-CTCs and Bi-CTCs had no significant prognostic value (all p > 0.05). Patients with T-CTC ≥5 or M-CTC ≥2 had significantly worse mCRPC-free survival and CSS than those with T-CTC<5 or M-CTC<2 (all p < 0.05) after CRP.ConclusionCTC quantification and phenotype characterization provide prognostic information, and M-CTCs can be used as a novel biomarker for omHSPC patients who undergo CRP. The results need to be validated in prospective studies.

Abstract
PURPOSE Liquid biopsy refers to the detection and analysis of the components from biological fluids non-invasively, including circulating tumor cells, nucleic acids, and extracellular vesicles (EVs). It is necessary to review the clinical value of liquid biopsy assays in PC and explore its potential application. MATERIALS AND METHODS We systematically reviewed of PubMed was performed to identify relevant literature on potential clinical applications of circulating tumor cells, circulating nucleic acids, and EVs in prostate cancer (PC). RESULTS Liquid biopsy has emerged as a powerful tool to elucidate dynamic genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic tumor profiling in real-time. Here, the potential clinical applications of liquid biopsy include early detection, prognosis of survival, assessment of treatment response, and mechanisms of drug resistance in PC. CONCLUSIONS Liquid biopsy provides great value in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response in PC. Characterization of liquid biopsy components provides benefits both to unravel underlying resistance mechanisms and to exploit novel clinically actionable targets in PC. In addition, we suggest that analysis of multiparametric liquid biopsies should be analyzed comprehensively, assisting in monitoring tumor characteristics in real-time, guiding therapeutic selection, and early therapeutic switching during disease progression.

Abstract
Background Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, with high morbidity and mortality rates. Circulating tumor cell (CTC) detection has become a novel approach in clinical study of EC. In this study, the relationship between CTCs/c-Kit expression of CTCs and the prognosis of EC patients was analyzed in EC. Methods A total of 43 EC patients with R0 resection were recruited for this study. The CanPatrol method was used to detect the CTC number in the peripheral blood of patients before and after operations, and the epithelial/interstitial type was classified. Multiple RNA in situ hybridization (RNA-ISH) was used to observethe c-Kit expression of CTCs. Post-operation follow-up occurred over 3 years. Logistic regression or the Cox proportional risk regression model was applied to analyze the relationship between CTC number, CTCs and disease characteristics, pathological stages and prognosis of patients with EC, and changes in CTCs before and after operations. c-Kit expression in different CTCs and the relationship between c-Kit expression and prognosis were also studied. Results The detection rate of CTCswas 81% (35/43). The detection rates of epithelial-, mixed- and stromal-type CTCs were 53%, 63%, and 33%, respectively. The 3-year overall survival rate was 67%. A CTC level of >2 indicated an increased risk of recurrence, metastasis, and death (P=0.018, 0.002, respectively). Following the operations, the total number of CTCs decreased in 29 cases. Of these, 6 cases were unchanged, and 8 cases demonstrated elevated CTCs. There was a significant difference in the positive rate of mixed-type CTCs before and after the operations. The rate of c-Kit expression in CTCs of EC patients was 46% pre-operation. No statistically significant correlations were found between c-Kit expression and postoperative recurrence/metastasis/survival of EC patients. Conclusions Preoperative CTC numbers, especially interstitial CTCs, were used as an auxiliary index in the prognosis of EC patients. The mRNA expression of c-Kit was detected in CTCs preoperatively in patients with EC, but no significant correlation between the c-Kit expression and the prognosis of EC patients was found.

Abstract
Liquid biopsy has emerged as a complement to invasive tissue biopsy to guide cancer diagnosis and treatment. The common liquid biopsy biomarkers are circulating tumor cells (CTCs), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). Each biomarker provides specific information based on its intrinsic characteristics. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in males worldwide. In men with low-grade localized prostate cancer, the disease can often be managed by active surveillance. For men who require treatment, the 5-year survival rate of localized prostate cancer is the highest among all cancer types, but the metastatic disease remains incurable. Metastatic prostate cancer invariably progresses to involve multiple bone sites and develops into a castration-resistant disease that leads to cancer death. The need to appropriately diagnose and guide the serial treatment of men with prostate cancer has led to the implementation of many studies to apply liquid biopsies to prostate cancer management. This review describes recent advancements in isolation and detection technology and the strength and weaknesses of the three circulating biomarkers. The clinical studies based on liquid biopsy results are summarized to depict the future perspective in the role of liquid biopsy on prostate cancer management.

Abstract
The identification of specific biomarkers that recognize the functional drivers of heterogeneity in prostate cancer (PCa) and personalized treatment remain challenging in systemic medicine. Liquid biopsy allows for the detection and analysis of personalized predictive biomarkers in single blood samples and specifies the current stage of cancer. The aim of our preliminary study was to investigate the association between an elevated circulating tumor cell (CTC) count and the levels of inflammatory factors (IL-6 and IL-8) and biomarkers (DKK-1, PSA, sHER2, and CD44) in patients with metastasized castration-resistant PCa (mCPRC) under chemotherapy and those with localized PCa. Such an association could be used as a component of cancer progression monitoring. We compared the sensitivity and specificity of two CTC isolation platforms. Twenty-eight patients (12 mCRPC and 16 localized PCa patients) were enrolled. Over the study period, the CTC detection rates were 84% with CellCollector® and 73.5% with CellSearch® System in mCPRC patients. The CTC counts determined by the CellSearch® System (CTC_CS) were correlated significantly with the DKK-1, sHER-2, and PSA concentrations in mCRPC patients. The CTC counts captured by CellCollector® demonstrated no significant association with the concentrations of the tested blood-based biomarkers. The CTC_CS count (AUC = 0.9 (95% CI: 0.72-1.0)) and the PSA level (AUC = 0.95 (95% CI: 0.83-1.0)) presented approximately the same sensitivity and specificity for the overall survival of mCRPC patients. For better personalized characterization, further research on CTC phenotyping and their interactions with tumor-associated blood-released factors is needed.

Abstract
Purpose Status of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) varies from tumors to tumors. Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) and cell surface vimentin (CSV) are the most common used targets for isolating epithelial and mesenchymal CTCs, respectively. This study aimed to identify a suitable CTC capturing antibody for CTC enrichment in each solid tumor by comparing CTC detection rates with EpCAM and CSV antibodies in different solid tumors. Methods Treatment-naive patients with confirmed cancer diagnosis and healthy people who have performed CTC detection between April 2017 and May 2018 were included in this study. CTC detection was performed with CytoSorter® CTC system using either EpCAM or CSV antibody. In total, 853 CTC results from 690 cancer patients and 72 healthy people were collected for analysis. The performance of CTC capturing antibody was determined by the CTC detection rate. Results EpCAM has the highest CTC detection rate of 84.09% in CRC, followed by BCa (78.32%). CTC detection rates with EpCAM antibody are less than 40% in HCC (25%), PDAC (32.5%) and OC (33.33%). CSV has the highest CTC detection rate of 90% in sarcoma, followed by BC (85.71%), UC (84.62%), OC (83.33%) and BCa (81.82%). CTC detection rates with CSV antibody are over 60% in all 14 solid tumors. Except for CRC, CSV has better performances than EpCAM in most solid tumors regarding the CTC detection rates. Conclusion EpCAM can be used as a target to isolate CTCs in CRC, LC, GC, BCa, EC, HNSCC, CC and PCa, especially in CRC, while CSV can be used in most solid tumors for isolating CTCs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Much importance is attached to the clinical application value of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), meanwhile tumor-proximal CTCs detection has interested researchers for its unique advantage. This research mainly discusses the correlation of portal venous (PoV) CTCs counts in different epithelial-mesenchymal transition status with clinicopathologic parameters and postoperative prognosis in resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients (PDAC). METHODS PDAC patients (n=60) who received radical resection were enrolled in this research. PoV samples from all patients and peripheral venous (PV) samples from 32 patients among them were collected to verify spatial heterogeneity of CTCs distribution, and explore their correlation with clinicopathologic parameters and clinical prognosis. RESULTS CTCs detectable rate and each phenotype count of PoV were higher than those of PV. Patients with recurrence had higher PV and PoV epithelial CTCs (E-CTCs) counts than recurrence-free patients (P<0.05). Some unfavourable clinicopathologic parameters were closely related to higher PoV CTCs counts. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that PoV mesenchymal CTC (M-CTC)s≥1/5 ml was an independent risk factor for metastasis free survival (MFS) (P=0.003) and overall survival (OS) (P=0.043). CONCLUSIONS Our research demonstrated that portal venous was a preferable vessel for CTC test, and patients with PoV M-CTC≥1/5 ml had shorter MFS and OS time in resectable PDAC patients. PoV CTC phenotype detection has the potential to be a reliable and accurate tool to identify resectable PDAC patients with high tendency of postoperative metastasis for better stratified management.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW In this review, we provide an overview of the recent developments and prospects on the applications of blood-based liquid biopsies, including circulating tumor DNA and circulating tumor cells, in metastatic prostate cancer. RECENT FINDINGS Guidelines and consensus statements have been formulated to standardize preanalytical conditions that affect liquid biopsy analysis. Currently, there are four FDA approved assays for the analysis of liquid biopsies and many quantitative and qualitative assays are being developed. Comprehensive analyses of cell-free tumor DNA (ctDNA) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) demonstrate that they adequately reflect the genomic makeup of the tumor and may thus complement or even replace tumor biopsies. The assessment of genomic aberrations in ctDNA can potentially predict therapy response and detect mechanisms of resistance. CTC count is not only a strong prognosticator in metastatic prostate cancer but can also measure therapy response. SUMMARY Liquid biopsies may provide a temporal snapshot of the biologic variables that affect tumor growth and progression in metastatic prostate cancer. Liquid biopsies could inform on prognostic, predictive, and response measures. However, prospective clinical trials need to be performed to provide definitive validation of the clinical value of the most advanced assays.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is diagnosed mostly in men over the age of 50 years, and has favorable 5-year survival rates due to early cancer detection and availability of curative surgical management. However, progression to metastasis and emergence of therapeutic resistance are responsible for the majority of prostate cancer mortalities. Recent advancement in sequencing technologies and computational capabilities have improved the ability to organize and analyze large data, thus enabling the identification of novel biomarkers for survival, metastatic progression and patient prognosis. Large-scale sequencing studies have also uncovered genetic and epigenetic signatures associated with prostate cancer molecular subtypes, supporting the development of personalized targeted-therapies. However, the current state of mainstream prostate cancer management does not take full advantage of the personalized diagnostic and treatment modalities available. This review focuses on interrogating biomarkers of prostate cancer progression, including gene signatures that correspond to the acquisition of tumor lethality and those of predictive and prognostic value in progression to advanced disease, and suggest how we can use our knowledge of biomarkers and molecular subtypes to improve patient treatment and survival outcomes.

Abstract
Epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs) generate hybrid phenotypes with an enhanced ability to adapt to diverse microenvironments encountered during the metastatic spread. Accordingly, EMTs play a crucial role in the biology of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and contribute to their heterogeneity. Here, we review major EMT-driven properties that may help hybrid Epithelial/Mesenchymal CTCs to survive in the bloodstream and accomplish early phases of metastatic colonization. We then discuss how interrogating EMT in CTCs as a companion biomarker could help refine cancer patient management, further supporting the relevance of CTCs in personalized medicine.

Abstract
Background Although circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are considered as a surrogate marker in monitoring disease progression and treatment response in late stage prostate cancer (PCa), its clinical impact in localized PCa remains unclear, indicating the limitation that is simply based on cell count. This perspective observational study aimed to detect the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) subtypes of CTCs in localized PCa and analyze their clinical relevance and application in predicting PCa stages before surgery compared with the Partin table. Patients and Methods Between August 2017 and April 2019, 80 newly diagnosed localized PCa patients were enrolled in the study. Peripheral blood samples (5 mL) were collected prior to surgery. The CanPatrolTM CTC enrichment technique, a size-based isolation method, was used to detect the EMT CTCs. Clinical relevance of the CTCs was analyzed with Spearman’s rank correlation test. Models to predict pathological were built with multivariate logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) analysis were performed to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction model. Results CTCs were detected in 55% of all patients. The biophenotypic CTCs were most valuable and closely correlated with PSA, Gleason score, D’Amico risk classification, and pathological stage in localized PCa. The mesenchymal subtype was rare in this population but associated with seminal vesicle invasion, while the epithelial subtype had limited clinical significance. In addition, the biophenotypic CTCs combined with traditional clinical variables were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression to predict organ-confined disease before surgery, of which the AUC reached 0.818 and was superior to the Partin table 2017 in our cohort. Conclusion This study highlights the clinical impact of the biophenotypic CTCs in localized PCa, which was most closely related to clinical variables and could help to predict pathology outcomes before surgery.

Abstract
Prostate cancer (PCa) is initially driven by excessive androgen receptor (AR) signaling with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) being a major therapeutic approach to its treatment. However, the development of drug resistance is a significant limitation on the effectiveness of both first-line and more recently developed second-line ADTs. There is a need then to study AR signaling within the context of other oncogenic signaling pathways that likely mediate this resistance. This review focuses on interactions between AR signaling, the well-known phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/AKT pathway, and an emerging mediator of these pathways, the Hippo/YAP1 axis in metastatic castrate-resistant PCa, and their involvement in the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a feature of disease progression and ADT resistance. Analysis of these pathways in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may provide an opportunity to evaluate their utility as biomarkers and address their importance in the development of resistance to current ADT with potential to guide future therapies.
