Abstract
RESEARCH PURPOSE GLUT1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1DS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the SLC2A1 gene that limits the transport of glucose across the blood-brain barrier. Speech disorders and dysarthria are typical findings in patients with GLUT1DS, but have never been deeply phenotyped. The aim of the present study was to characterize speech abilities in a sample of patients with GLUT1DS. RESULTS 30 patients with GLUT1DS were recruited. We reported impairments in different speech and oromotor domains: the speech was characterized by dysarthria, inaccurate articulation of consonants, abnormal nasal resonance, errors in intonation and prosody and low intelligibility. We observed difficulties in motor planning and programming. Moreover, we observed a significant difference between the dysarthric level of impairment with genotype groups. CONCLUSIONS The presence of a speech disorder in patients with GLUT1DS represents a core feature of the syndrome. Our findings suggest that patients with GLUT1DS would benefit from a comprehensive neurocognitive assessment to detect strengths and weaknesses of the speech profile. Understanding the speech and language phenotype in GLUT1DS is critical for planning early intervention to positively influence the global development of patients with GLUT1DS.

Abstract
Ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare, multisystem progressive condition that typically presents in early childhood. In the absence of cure, people with A-T require coordinated multidisciplinary care to manage their complex array of needs and to minimize the disease burden. Although symptom management has proven benefits for this population, including improved quality of life and reduced complications, there is a need for guidance specific to the nursing and allied healthcare teams who provide care within the community. A scoping review, adopting the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, was undertaken. It aimed to identify and map the available expertise from nursing and allied healthcare and management of children and young people with A-T ≤ 18 years of age. A rigorous search strategy was employed which generated a total of 21,118 sources of evidence, of which 50 were selected for review following screening by experts. A range of interventions were identified that reported a positive impact on A-T-related impairments, together with quality of life, indicating that outcomes can be improved for this population. Most notable interventions specific to A-T include therapeutic exercise, inspiratory muscle training, and early nutritional assessment and intervention. Further research will be required to determine the full potential of the identified interventions, including translatability to the A-T setting for evidence related to other forms of ataxia. Large gaps exist in the nursing and allied health evidence-base, highlighting a need for robust research that includes children and young people with A-T and their families to better inform and optimize management strategies.

Abstract
Ataxia-telangiectasia is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive cerebellar ataxia, oculomotor apraxia, and choreoathetosis. Ataxia-telangiectasia is a devastating disease that negatively affects the participation of patients in daily occupations and consequently has adverse impacts on the quality of life of them and their families. This study aimed to investigate the effects of an occupational therapy intervention based on the Person-Environment-Occupation Model (PEO) on a 9-year old boy with ataxia-telangiectasia. Following a ten-session intervention, the client experienced significant improvement in occupational performance as well as participation in daily occupations as measured by Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), respectively.

Abstract
Speech is a powerful, natural mode of communication that facilitates effective interactions in human societies. However, when fluency or flow of speech is affected or interrupted, it leads to speech impairment. There are several types of speech impairment depending on the speech pattern and range from mild to severe. Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is the most common speech disorder in children, with 1 out of 12 children diagnosed globally. Significant advancements in speech assessment tools have been reported to assist speech-language pathologists diagnosis speech impairment. In recent years, speech assessment tools have also gained popularity among pediatricians and teachers who work with preschoolers. Automatic speech tools can be more accurate for detecting speech sound disorders (SSD) than human-based speech assessment methods. This systematic literature review covers 88 studies, including more than 500 children, infants, toddlers, and a few adolescents, (both male and female) (age = 0-17) representing speech impairment from more than 10 countries. It discusses the state-of-the-art speech assessment methods, including tools, techniques, and protocols for speech-impaired children. Additionally, this review summarizes notable outcomes in detecting speech impairments using said assessment methods and discusses various limitations such as universality, reliability, and validity. Finally, we consider the challenges and future directions for speech impairment assessment tool research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ataxia-telangiectasia is an autosomal recessive, multi-system, and life-shortening disease caused by mutations in the ataxia-telangiectasia mutated gene. Although widely reported, there are no studies that give a comprehensive picture of this intriguing condition. OBJECTIVES Understand the natural history of ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T), as reported in scientific literature. SEARCH METHODS 107 search terms were identified and divided into 17 searches. Each search was performed in PubMed, Ovid SP (MEDLINE) 1946-present, OVID EMBASE 1980 -present, Web of Science core collection, Elsevier Scopus, and Cochrane Library. SELECTION CRITERIA All human studies that report any aspect of A-T. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Search results were de-duplicated, data extracted (including author, publication year, country of origin, study design, population, participant characteristics, and clinical features). Quality of case-control and cohort studies was assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa tool. Findings are reported descriptively and where possible data collated to report median (interquartile range, range) of outcomes of interest. MAIN RESULTS 1314 cases reported 2134 presenting symptoms. The most common presenting symptom was abnormal gait (1160 cases; 188 studies) followed by recurrent infections in classical ataxia-telangiectasia and movement disorders in variant ataxia-telangiectasia. 687 cases reported 752 causes of death among which malignancy was the most frequently reported cause. Median (IQR, range) age of death (n = 294) was 14 years 0 months (10 years 0 months to 23 years 3 months, 1 year 3 months to 76 years 0 months). CONCLUSIONS This review demonstrates the multi-system involvement in A-T, confirms that neurological symptoms are the most frequent presenting features in classical A-T but variants have diverse manifestations. We found that most individuals with A-T have life limited to teenage or early adulthood. Predominance of case reports, and case series demonstrate the lack of robust evidence to determine the natural history of A-T. We recommend population-based studies to fill this evidence gap.

Abstract
The Intelligibility in Context Scale (ICS) is a widely used, efficient tool for describing a child's speech intelligibility. Few studies have explored the relationship between ICS scores and transcription intelligibility scores, which are the gold standard for clinical measurement. This study examined how well ICS composite scores predicted transcription intelligibility scores among children with cerebral palsy (CP), how well individual questions from the ICS differentially predicted transcription intelligibility scores, and how well the ICS composite scores differentiated between children with and without speech motor impairment. Parents of 48 children with CP, who were approximately 13 years of age, completed the ICS. Ninety-six adult naïve listeners provided orthographic transcriptions of children's speech. Transcription intelligibility scores were regressed on ICS composite scores and individual item scores. Dysarthria status was regressed on ICS composite scores. Results indicated that ICS composite scores were moderately strong predictors of transcription intelligibility scores. One individual ICS item differentially predicted transcription intelligibility scores, and dysarthria severity influenced how well ICS composite scores differentiated between children with and without speech motor impairment. Findings suggest that the ICS has potential clinical utility for children with CP, especially when used with other objective measures of speech intelligibility.
