A randomized, participant-and evaluator-blinded, matched-pair prospective study to compare the safety and efficacy between polycaprolactone-based fillers in the correction of nasolabial folds

Ellansé: Advanced Technology and Advantageous Selection of New Collagen Stimulating Agents for Face Rejuvenation

Facial injections have a comparative mature market and system in China, but all kinds of injection materials have their own advantages and disadvantages, even hyaluronic acid, as the most common injection material, can form an unnatural stiffness after injection. Currently, Ellansé, a biodegradable collagen stimulator, has shown superior aesthetic results while ensuring safety and naturalness, making it a more preferable choice for a variety of facial injections. The purpose of this review is to introduce the features and benefits of Ellansé, so that doctors in the field can better understand and learn how to use it properly and minimize the risk of complications, and have a better choice for the medical aesthetic field in China in numerous aspects. The papers with the keyword "Ellansé" is very few in number, and there is a lack of systematic overview. Ellansé itself has unique advantages for the Chinese population, as it is an attractive option for the treatment of aging face due to high patient satisfaction, long-lasting results and low side effects (Guo et al. in J Cosmet Dermatol 21(5):1959-1966, 2022). More clinical data will be available in the future to confirm its performance and longevity in various sites. Using the depth deviation based on three-dimensional images to evaluate the correction of nasolabial folds: A prospective and quantitative analysis

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

The deepening of the nasolabial fold (NLF) is a common occurrence during the aging process, necessitating the development of an objective method to evaluate changes in NLFs. The objective of our study was to introduce a method of depth deviation based on three-dimensional (3D) image for evaluating the efficacy of hyaluronic acid (HA) injection in correcting NLFs.

METHODS

Between May 2019 and November 2019, we recruited 56 Chinese volunteers with moderate to severe NLFs for this study. The participants received HA injections and were followed up for a period of 12 months. Pre and posttreatment, we collected the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale (WSRS) scores and 3D images. To assess the efficacy of NLF correction, we used the maximum value of depth deviation (MVD) based on 3D images and the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) score. Additionally, we compared the relationship between MVD and other clinical parameters.

RESULTS

Fifty-four female participants completed the study and were included in the analysis. The HA injection resulted in a significant decrease in NLF severity (p < 0.05). One month after the injection, the average GAIS score was 4.72 ± 0.45, and the average MVD was 2.10 ± 0.56 mm. Both the GAIS score and the average MVD exhibited a decline over time during the follow-up period, with the average MVD showing a significant correlation with the GAIS score at all time points (p < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

Using 3D technology, we demonstrated that the quantitative data provided by MVD can serve as an objective method for evaluating the correction of NLFs.

Radiofrequency‐assisted subcision combined with polycaprolactone‐based dermal fillers in the management of atrophic facial acne scars: A pilot investigative study

OBJECTIVE

The scar's appearance and psychological burden are the most esthetically challenging issues in acne vulgaris. This study investigated the effectiveness and safety profile of combined radiofrequency-assisted subcision, which, even though effective on both Icepeak and Rolling subtypes, is only mildly effective on boxcar lesions, and polycaprolactone-based dermal filler with collagen stimulation potency in managing atrophic postacne scars.

METHODS

Our quasi-experimental single-arm study, after the inclusion of 10 cases over the age of 18 with moderate to severe mixed atrophic facial acne scarring, was carried out in two 3-month separate sessions, during and after the intended intervention of which the experienced lesion improvements and also adverse events were documented. Moreover, all cases were followed for 3 months after the last session, evaluating the differences in the mentioned outcomes.

RESULTS

We found the combined intervention to be highly effective in improving the intended outcomes, with the total number of acne lesions (p-value < 0.001), along with the total number of Ice peak (p-value = 0.002), Rolling (p-value < 0.001), and boxcar (p-value = 0.023) lesions demonstrating statistically significant changes.

CONCLUSION

Radiofrequency-assisted subcision combined with polycaprolactone-based dermal fillers can be an effective intervention in managing postacne scars. However, we recommend that randomized clinical trials with larger sample sizes be carried out for a more precise conclusion.
