Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical significance of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR), and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) in pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) associated with other bacterial lung infections. METHODS A total of 74 patients with PTB complicated with other bacterial lung infections, who were admitted to the Sixth People's Hospital of Nantong City (Nantong, China) from January 2021 to December 2023, were included in this study as the PTB with infection complication group. A comparison group of 96 patients with uncomplicated PTB, admitted to the same hospital during the same period, was used as the PTB without infection complication group. The NLR, FAR, and RDW values in peripheral blood were determined and compared between the two groups. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of these indicators for early detection of PTB complicated with other bacterial infections. RESULTS The NLR, FAR, and RDW values were significantly higher in the PTB with infection complication group compared to the PTB without infection complication group, with differences reaching statistical significance (P < 0.05). NLR value showed a positive correlation with white blood cell count, C-reactive protein levels, and D-dimer levels. ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under the curve (AUC) values for diagnosing PTB with bacterial infection using blood NLR, FAR, and RDW were 0.861, 0.818, and 0.799, respectively. The combined AUC value of these three indicators was 0.982. The validation results showed that the diagnostic sensitivity (98.6%) and specificity (89.58%) of the combination of NLR, FAR, and RDW were higher than those of each indicator alone. CONCLUSION The combined assessment of blood NLR, FAR, and RDW values has high clinical diagnostic value for diagnosing PTB complicated with other bacterial infections.

Abstract
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) pathogenesis is strongly related to the role of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in which MCL cells proliferate. TIME cells can produce growth signals influencing MCL cells' survival and exert an antitumoral immune response suppression. The activity of TIME cells might be mirrored by some ratios of peripheral blood cell subpopulations, such as the monocyte-to-platelet ratio (MPR). We reviewed the clinical features of 165 consecutive MCL patients newly diagnosed and not eligible for autologous stem cell transplantation (both for age or comorbidities) who accessed two Italian Centers between 2006 and 2020. MPR was calculated using data obtained from the complete blood cell count at diagnosis before any cytotoxic treatment and correlated with PFS. Univariate analysis showed that MPR ≥ 3 was associated with inferior PFS (p = 0.02). Multivariate analysis confirmed that MPR ≥ 3, LDH > 2.5 ULN, and bone marrow involvement were significant independent variables in predicting PFS. For these reasons, MPR ≥ 3 seems the most promising prognostic factor in patients with MCL, and it could be considered a variable in new predictive models.

Abstract
Patients at risk of skin cancers can develop varying types of cutaneous malignancies. However, some subjects may develop only one type of lesion. In this cross-sectional study, the spectrum of premalignant (PM) and malignant skin lesions and their risk factors were studied. Therefore, 505 adult subjects (aged 21-79 years, 256 males and 249 females, 96 with immunosuppression) at risk of any type of skin cancer were examined for cutaneous malignancies, nevi, actinic keratoses, photodamage, and possible risk factors. First, 12 different groups were identified with a varying set of PM and/or malignant skin lesions. Next, 5 larger groups were formed from them: basal cell carcinoma (BCC) only, malignant melanoma (MM) only, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and/or PM, BCC + SCC and/or PM, and MM + keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) and/or PM. The groups with BCC or MM only were younger and showed less photodamage than the mixed groups, while SCC/PM showed similarity with them. In logistic regression analyses, the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio was associated with an increased risk of concomitant KC (OR 1.028, p = 0.023) or SCC/PM (OR 1.009, p = 0.047) in subjects with MM or BCC, respectively. Actinic keratoses produced ORs 0.246-0.252 (p = 0.008-0.020) for BCC in subjects with SCC/PM. Interestingly, atypical mole syndrome decreased the risk of SCC/PM in subjects with BCC (OR 0.092, p = 0.001). Advanced age was a significant risk factor for an additional type of lesion in all 3 comparisons (ORs 1.088-1.388, p = 0.001). In conclusion, even though there are numerous patients with only one lesion type, advancing age may determine the final lesion multiplicity.

Abstract
With the ongoing progress of basic research along with the introduction of new pharmaceutical options spanning almost all therapeutic areas, the need for biomarkers that will be implemented into the personalized medical approach is higher than ever. Their use can be incorporated into clinical practice and can be applied to the classification of disorders and the evaluation of disease severity but also to the monitoring of the progress of therapeutic/pharmaceutical interventions. This systematic review collects the findings of hematologic biomarkers in various cutaneous malignancies, excluding malignant melanoma, to support their potential use in the prognosis but also in the assessment of therapeutic strategies for the specific category of skin disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a known prognostic biomarker for survival and is predictive of sentinel lymph node (SLN) positivity in some cancers. However, its usefulness as a prognostic biomarker for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) has not been fully investigated. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to investigate the relationship between the NLR and the disease-specific survival and SLN positivity in patients with cSCC. METHODS In this single-center retrospective case series, we analyzed patients with cSCC who underwent blood tests prior to the initiation of treatment at our oncology hospital. The relationship between the patients' clinical characteristics (including the NLR) and the disease-specific survival and SLN positivity was evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS An elevated NLR was an independent prognostic factor for poor disease-specific survival and a predictive factor for SLN positivity. LIMITATIONS Limitations include the small number of participants and selection bias due to the large proportion of high-risk cases in our patient population. CONCLUSION NLR is a useful biomarker in cSCC because it is simple to measure and can predict prognosis.
