Abstract
BACKGROUND For several years, the Norwegian government's goal has been that half of those who complete a degree in Norwegian higher education, should have had a study period abroad. This also applies to undergraduate nursing students. Nurse education programs in Norway often offer clinical practice abroad in order for their students to gain experience from another country's health care system. There is a knowledge gap in the literature on how Norwegian nursing students' experience their study period and internships abroad. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to explore Norwegian undergraduate nursing students' experiences of their clinical practice abroad. DESIGN A descriptive and exploratory qualitative study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Nursing students were recruited from one specialized university in Norway. Nine students were interviewed. METHOD Three focus groups were conducted via the online platform Zoom with nursing students who had their clinical practice abroad during their bachelor's degree. The interviews were conducted in June 2020. The collected data were analyzed using thematic reflective analysis inspired by Braun and Clarke. RESULTS Four themes were developed from the analysis: 1) Motivation for studying abroad, 2) Professional and personal development, 3) Different nursing role and 4) Different supervisor role. CONCLUSION Students provided valuable insight from their experiences of studying abroad. The study highlights that there were other learning opportunities abroad than in Norway, but that the learning approach was somehow different and that it made the students take more initiative thus becoming more independent. The nursing role was different from what they were used to in Norway. In general, the Norwegian students experienced the nurse role abroad as more medical oriented. In addition, in countries like India, Spain and Cuba the family was taking a greater part of the care of people's basic needs.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of nursing students' xenophobic tendencies toward refugees and affecting factors from the perspective of Ecological Systems Theory. BACKGROUND Nursing students' xenophobia toward refugees may negatively affect their care for patients. To effectively prevent xenophobia, it is essential to identify its underlying factors. DESIGN A convergent parallel mixed method. METHODS This study was conducted with third and fourth-grade nursing students at a university in Turkey. In the quantitative phase, online surveys were used, employing convenience sampling, with 227 participants. In the qualitative phase, purposive sampling was used and data were collected through in-depth interviews with 17 participants on the Zoom platform. Data were obtained using the Participant Information Form, Xenophobia Scale and Semi-Structured Interview Form. RESULTS Nursing students who are male, in their third year, have low economic status, lack immigrant friends, lack immigrants in the family members, receive information about immigrants from social media and live in regions with a high concentration of immigrants have higher levels of xenophobia (p<0.05). In the qualitative phase, our study results showed that negative experiences with refugees, economic and social worries, perception of security threats, cultural conflicts and negative media messages toward refugees can lead to xenophobia. In addition, students stated that lessons about immigrants and caring for them in clinics can improve their ability to empathize with immigrants. CONCLUSION Nursing curriculums should cover immigrant care and interaction to combat xenophobia, which can improve empathy skills and raise awareness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study examined the phenomenon of prelicensure nursing students caring for culturally diverse patients. METHOD Individual interviews were conducted with undergraduate nursing students using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Qualitative research experts conducted the interviews, transcribed the data, and followed van Manen's methodology for analysis. RESULTS Eleven nursing students participated in the study. Data were collected from April to August 2022. The average length of the student interviews was 32 minutes. Four themes were identified: (1) communication issues; (2) access to care; (3) nurse background; and (4) trust and respect. CONCLUSION This study highlights the importance of caring for culturally diverse patients. Policymakers and health care leaders can use the findings to support legislative proposals for enhancing culturally diverse patient safety and health equity. Based on these findings, nurse educators and preceptors can adapt their clinical teaching approaches accordingly, and nurse managers can benefit from the results when hiring new graduate nurses. Abstract
BACKGROUND Several educational activities in nursing schools worldwide have been implemented to promote transcultural nursing and cultural competence. Despite the diversity of their experiences and outcomes, the available evidence has not been systematically reviewed and reinterpreted. This study aimed to review and reinterpret all rigorous qualitative evidence available, providing an opportunity to understand how students learn transcultural nursing and assisting faculties, researchers, managers, and practitioners in designing new interventions to improve transcultural training. METHODS A meta-synthesis was conducted to review and integrate qualitative studies of these phenomena. English, Spanish and Portuguese articles were searched in Pubmed and Scopus databases. Only peer-reviewed journals in which qualitative approaches were used were included. Quality was assessed using the CASP qualitative version checklist. The metasynthesis technique proposed by Noblit and Hare was used to analyse the data. RESULTS Twenty-nine studies were included in the analysis. Most studies used phenomenological approaches that were conducted in Australia and the United States of America, with international internships being the most popular learning method. The data revealed one central theme, "From learning opportunity to conscious multidimensional change," and six subthemes. The transcultural nursing learning experience is not a simple or linear process. Instead, it appears to be a complex process formed by the interaction between a) self-awareness, b) reflective thinking, c) Cultural Encounters, d) cultural skills, e) Cultural Desire, and f) Cultural Knowledge. CONCLUSIONS Transcultural nursing learning is a multifaceted process that arises from specific learning opportunities. This process is still to evolving. Therefore, specific educational strategies should be implemented to encourage attitudinal change and promote reflective thinking.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants is increasing worldwide. It is crucial to determine attitudes and intercultural sensitivities of nursing students towards refugees and individuals from different cultures. These nursing students will be providing healthcare in the future to these diverse communities. OBJECTIVES To determine the attitudes towards refugees and intercultural sensitivity of nursing students and to identify the determinants of these parameters. DESIGN The study was conducted with a descriptive and correlational design. SETTINGS Nursing departments of two universities in Ankara, Turkey. PARTICIPANTS The population of the study consisted of nursing students at two universities (N = 1530). A total of 905 students were included in the study. METHODS Data were obtained by a personal information form, the Attitudes Towards Refugees Scale, and the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale. Linear regression analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the scales. RESULTS The participants' mean Attitudes Towards Refugees Scale score was 82.49 ± 16.66 and the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale score was 91.31 ± 11.15. Caring for refugees, intercultural sensitivity, interaction engagement, and respect for cultural differences were associated with attitudes towards refugees. Academic level, income, place of residence, and attitude towards refugees were associated with intercultural sensitivity. CONCLUSIONS Most of the nursing students displayed a negative attitude towards refugees, although they presented a high level of intercultural sensitivity. Integration of refugee-related topics into the nursing education curriculum and designing education programs are recommended to increase awareness and positive attitudes, and to improve cultural competence of nursing students.

Abstract
Objective To describe the development of evidence-based recommendations for screening and nursing management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Ghana and present the recommendations. Design A qualitative study. Setting Military Health Institutions in Ghana. Measurements Data from qualitative interviews with 7 women with GDM and 8 midwives, and an integrative literature review including available clinical practice guidelines on screening and nursing management of GDM, was used to develop the recommendations. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence' steps guided the recommendations' development. Methodological quality of the recommendations was assessed based on an adapted version of the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE II) tool. Six experts reviewed the recommendations and an infographic in support of the recommendations. Findings Two main recommendations and an infographic were developed, including: 1. Early screening and diagnosis of GDM, and 2. Involvement of women with GDM and their significant others during pregnancy, intrapartum and postpartum management, in a culturally and socio-economically appropriate manner. Key conclusions The recommendations and infographic, once reviewed and pilot tested, may assist midwives managing GDM in Ghana, with support of health institution management. Implications for practice The study highlights the need for recommendations which can be used by midwives to manage GDM in Ghana. The recommendations are the first to be contextualized for the Ghanaian setting.

Abstract
AIM To analyse and validate a contextually adapted version of the Papadopoulos' Cultural Competence Assessment Tool (CCATool) for Spanish undergraduate nursing students. BACKGROUND Globalization has driven and intensified international migration. Thus, nurses must treat patients of many different cultural origins. Accordingly, both cultural competence and an appropriate tool with which to evaluate it are required. METHODS The CCATool questionnaire was adapted for use in a Spanish context and was evaluated through a questionnaire completed by 262 undergraduate nursing students. Seven days later, the same students completed the questionnaire, without any intervention, and a subgroup of 144 students completed the questionnaire for a third time after taking a course in Transcultural Care. The reliability, sensitivity and stability of the questionnaire were assessed. RESULTS The reliability of the questionnaire obtained an adequate Cronbach's alpha of 0.81. Stability was assessed at seven days, using the intraclass correlation coefficient, which showed good/excellent results. Moreover, the questionnaire was able to detect the changes related to the nursing educative programme, thus highlighting a good sensitivity of the tool. CONCLUSION Cultural competence is an essential element of nurses' education, and instruction in this area should begin as soon as possible. In addition, an appropriate evaluation system is required. For this purpose, the present study describes and analyses a valid, reliable tool for use with undergraduate nursing students in Spain. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY Health and education policies must be sensitive to the ethnic and cultural differences of the patients who are cared for, and address the situations that cause difficulties in care. Hospitals and health centres must offer good care to patients from diverse cultures, so one of the necessary situations is the training and evaluation of the cultural competence of health professionals.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the experiences of ostomy and wound care nurses in providing care to refugees and asylum seekers with stomas. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The study population comprised 14 female nurses working as ostomy and wound care nurses in Turkey. Purposive sampling was adopted. The interviews were conducted at times convenient for the participants and researchers and by interviewing each nurse once. Prior to the interviews, the questions of an individual characteristics identification form were read to the participants, and the form was filled out on the basis of their responses. The interviews were conducted using a semistructured approach. Thematic analysis was used to identify, analyze, and report themes within the data. The emerging themes following data analysis were communication problems, problems with stoma supplies, nurses' efforts to prevent inequalities in care, and emotional burden. To maintain appropriate nursing care, this study recommends the expansion of appropriate translation services and the reconsideration of problems related to patients' access to stoma care materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Provision of transcultural care is an essential nursing competency. It is important to comprehensively understand the challenges nurses and nursing students face while striving to provide transcultural care in clinical settings. PURPOSE The purpose of this review was to develop a comprehensive understanding of nurses' and nursing students' challenges and approaches to the provision of transcultural care to people with diverse ethnicities. METHODS An integrative review was conducted. Literature was searched within five databases, and 30 studies published from January 2010 to January 2021 were reviewed and appraised using mixed methods critical appraisal tool. Literature summary tables and inductive approaches were used for data extraction and synthesis. RESULTS The challenges to the provision of transcultural care were intrapersonal struggle, cultural conflicts, varied expressions of pain and suffering, and navigation of personal and organizational constraints. Addressing these challenges required nurses and students to practice self-criticism and tolerate differences, develop interpersonal and psychological skills, and collaborate with peers and patients' families. CONCLUSIONS Provision of transcultural care is a complex task for nurses and students because of different interpretation of personal and organizational factors. Health care institutions should proactively provide resources to nurses and students to strengthen their interpersonal and psychological skills to provide effective transcultural care.

Abstract
Background Refugee parents who fled conflicts suffered violence and traumas and face huge challenges in supporting the health and welfare of their children while in transit. Aims To describe the development of a culturally competent and compassionate training and support package (TSP) for nurses, social and health care workers and volunteers, with a focus on parenting needs among unsettled refugees fleeing conflict. Methods The multi-method approach included: a scoping review covering parenting needs of refugees fleeing conflict zones; collection of stories from refugee parents, healthcare workers and volunteers via a mobile application; discussions between team members; a piloted and evaluated curriculum. Results High levels of family distress and deterioration of parental identity were identified. Informed by these results, the curriculum is articulated along 20 bite-sized learning units, covering four age stages of childhood as well as targeting adults’ well-being. Pilot training was evaluated positively, confirming feasibility and usefulness of the TSP. Conclusions Unsettled refugee parents fleeing conflicts face psycho-social and practical difficulties negatively affecting their parenting skills. The care workforce should be trained in order to provide culturally competent and compassionate support to help these families. Open access digital platforms are promising as autodidactic and self-help tools among hard-to-reach populations.
