Abstract
BACKGROUND It has been confirmed that the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio is closely associated with the incidence of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD). However, due to uncontrolled confounding factors in observational studies, the causal relationship of this association remains unclear. METHODS In this study, we extracted the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and data on CMD and its associated risk factors from the largest European Genome-Wide Association Study. The purpose was to conduct Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis. The causal relationship between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and CMD was evaluated using both univariable and multivariable MR analyses. Furthermore, bidirectional MR analysis was performed to estimate the causal relationship between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and risk factors for CMD. The final verification confirmed whether the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio exhibits a mediating effect in CMD and related risk factors. RESULTS In terms of CMD, a noteworthy correlation was observed between the increase in the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and various CMD, including ischemic heart disease, major adverse cardiovascular events, aortic aneurysm, cerebral ischemic disease and so on (all PFDR<0.05). Meanwhile, the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio was significantly associated with CMD risk factors, such as hemoglobin A1c, fasting insulin levels, waist-to-hip ratio, sedentary behavior, and various others, demonstrating a notable causal relationship (all PFDR<0.05). Additionally, the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio played a mediating role in CMD and relative risk factors. CONCLUSIONS This MR study provides evidence supporting the significant causal relationship between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and CMD and its risk factors. Moreover, it demonstrates the mediating effect of the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio in CMD and its risk factors. These findings suggest that the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio may serve as a potential indicator for identifying the risk of developing CMD in participants.

Abstract
Objectives Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is associated with cardiovascular diseases. Mean platelet volume has emerged as a marker of prothrombotic conditions and cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the mean platelet volume and cardiovascular diseases in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Methods The medical records of 207 patients were analyzed. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome was diagnosed by polygraphy, and patients were classified according to apnea-hypopnea index: control group: individuals with simple snoring (apnea-hypopnea index < 5), mild obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group (5 ⩽ apnea-hypopnea index < 15), moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group (15 ⩽ apnea-hypopnea index < 30), and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group (apnea-hypopnea index ⩾ 30). Mean platelet volume was obtained from medical records. Cardiovascular diseases were defined if patients had hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, or arrythmia. The independent predictors related to cardiovascular diseases in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome were determined by using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results Of the patients, 175 were included in the analysis. Sixty-three (36%) were males and 112 (64%) were females. The mean age was 51.85 ± 11 years. There were, 26 (14.9%), 53 (30.3%), 38 (21.7%), and 58 (33.1%) participants in the simple snoring, mild, moderate, and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome groups, respectively. Cardiovascular diseases were significantly different between the four groups (p = 0.014). Mean platelet volume in severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group was significantly higher than in mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group and simple snoring group (p < 0.05). Moreover, there was a positive correlation between mean platelet volume levels and apnea-hypopnea index (r = 0.424; p < 0.001). The independent predictors of cardiovascular diseases in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome were age (p < 0.001; odds ratio = 1.134; confidence interval: 1.072-1.2), body mass index (p = 0.012; odds ratio: 1.105; confidence interval: 1.022-1.194), and mean platelet volume (p < 0.001; odds ratio: 2.092; confidence interval: 1.386-3.158). Conclusion The present study demonstrated that there is an association between mean platelet volume levels and cardiovascular diseases in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Abstract
Purpose: This work aimed to analyze the association of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with choroidal thickness (CT) in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods: We identified patients in the Stanford Research Repository with a diagnosis of CSC and OSA. Age- and sex-matched controls with either CSC or OSA only were also identified. CT was measured at 5 points (subfoveal, and 1500 and 3000 µm nasal and temporal) by 2 graders. In addition to OSA treatment and severity, we also investigated the association of Oxygen Desaturation Index and nocturnal oxygen saturation nadir with subfoveal CT (SFCT). Results: A total of 57 patients and 72 eyes met the study inclusion criteria. The mean SFCT was significantly different across the 3 groups: OSA-only was the thinnest, followed by CSC with OSA, and CSC-only was the thickest (194.2 μm, 295.1 μm, and 357.8 μm, respectively, P < .001). SFCT was thicker in CSC with OSA compared with those with only OSA ( P < .05). OSA treatment status and OSA severity did not show a significant difference in SFCT in multivariable modeling. Nocturnal oxygen saturation nadir was positively associated with SFCT, but this did not reach significance.. Conclusions: SFCT is significantly different in patients with OSA alone, CSC with OSA, and CSC alone. While OSA treatment status did not demonstrate a significant difference in SFCT in this study, future studies should evaluate patients for OSA in patients known to have CSC and atypically thin CT to further investigate the novel metrics leveraged in this study.

Abstract
Background: Although sleep respiratory disorders are known as a relevant source of cardiovascular risk, there is a substantial lack of trials aimed to evaluate the eventual occurrence of associations between sleep apnea (SA) and valvular heart diseases (VHD). Methods: We recruited 411 patients referring to our sleep disorder unit, among which 371 had SA. Ninety-three subjects with SA also suffered from VHD. Physical examination, echocardiography, nocturnal cardio-respiratory monitoring, and laboratory tests were performed in each patient. Patient subgroups were comparatively evaluated through cross-sectional analysis. Results: A statistically significant increase in the prevalence of VHD was detected in relation to high apnea hypopnea index (AHI) values (p = 0.011). Obstructive sleep apnea occurrence was higher in SA patients without VHD (p < 0.0001). Conversely, central and mixed sleep apneas were more frequent among SA patients with VHD (p = 0.0003 and p = 0.002, respectively). We observed a direct correlation between AHI and BMI values (p < 0.0001), as well as between AHI and serum uric acid levels (p < 0.0001), high sensitivity C-reactive protein (p < 0.0001), and indexed left ventricular end-diastolic volume (p < 0.015), respectively. BMI and VHD resulted to be the main predictors of AHI values (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Our study suggests that a significant association can occur between SA and VHD. It is clinically relevant that when compared to SA patients without VHD, higher frequencies of central and mixed apneas were found in subjects with SA and VHD. Moreover, after elevated BMI, VHD represented the second predictor of AHI values.

Abstract
We screened key miRNAs in an intermittent hypoxia rat model and explored the biological roles of downstream target genes and related regulatory pathways. We analyzed the expression profile of miRNAs in the lung tissues of rats in the 5 % (IH1), 7.5 % (IH2), 10 % (IH3), 12.5 % (IH4) oxygen concentration and negative control (NC) groups and identified common miRNAs. Multiple differentially expressed miRNAs were detected, and intersection of their expression profiles yielded 10 common miRNAs with 929 target genes mainly distributed in the nucleus. Molecular functions pertained mainly to the activation of transcription factors, while biological processes focused on cell interaction and signal transduction. Among signaling pathways, the top 5 included the LKB1 signaling, nectin adhesion, and S1P pathways. 8 of 10 common miRNAs had excellent diagnostic value for detecting intermittent hypoxia. The miRNAs binds to the target gene might play a key role in the pathophysiological process of OSA through the LKB1/AMPK and S1P/Akt/eNOS signaling pathways.

Abstract
Introduction The effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) combined with resistance training (RT) in adults with obesity and sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBDs) is limited. Objective This study aimed to examine the effects of HIIT combined with RT on subjective sleep disorders in adults with obesity and SRBDs. Material and Methods This study was a pre- and post-test design. Seventeen adults with obesity and SRBDs were recruited into the study. They received 24 minutes of HIIT and 30 minutes of RT, 3 times/week for 6 weeks. The Epworth sleepiness scale (daytime sleepiness), Berlin questionnaire (snoring and daytime sleepiness category), estimated maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), muscle strength using 1-repetition maximum, anthropometric variables, and blood biomarkers were examined at baseline and after 6 weeks of training. Results The Epworth sleepiness scale, Berlin questionnaire (daytime sleepiness category), and the number of risks associated with sleep apnea using the Berlin questionnaire were significantly decreased after 6 weeks of training (all p<0.01). The estimated VO2max and muscle strength were significantly increased at Week 6 (all p<0.05). Body weight, body mass index, % body fat, and hip circumference were significantly decreased at Week 6 (all p<0.05). No significant changes were observed in blood biomarkers, except for fasting blood glucose (p<0.01). Conclusion Six weeks of HIIT combined with RT has beneficial effects on subjective sleep disorders, estimated VO2max, muscle strength, and most anthropometric variables in adults with obesity and SRBDs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The functions and molecular regulatory mechanisms of miR-193a-3p in cardiac injury induced by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the role of miR-193a-3p in intermittent hypoxia(IH)-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) injury. RESULTS In this study, we found that IH significantly decreased viability but enhanced cell apoptosis. Concurrently, the miR-193a-3p expression level was increased in HUVECs after IH. Subsequent experiments showed that IH-induced injury was ameliorated through miR-193a-3p silence. Fas apoptotic inhibitory molecule 2 (FAIM2) was predicted by bioinformatics analysis and further identified as a direct target gene of miR-193a-3p. Interestingly, the effect of miR-193a-3p inhibition under IH could be reversed by down-regulating FAIM2 expression. CONCLUSION In conclusion, our study first revealed that miR-193a-3p inhibition could protect HUVECs against intermittent hypoxia-induced damage by negatively regulating FAIM2. These findings could advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms for OSA-related cardiac injury. METHODS We exposed HUVECs to IH condition; the expression levels of miR-193a-3p were detected by RT-qPCR. Cell viability, and the expressions of apoptosis-associated proteins were examined via CCK-8, and western blotting, respectively. Abstract
Sleep-related breathing disorders can be classified as either obstructive (OSA) or central sleep apnea (CSA). Whereas there is substantial knowledge about the pathophysiology and sound recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of OSA, the origin of CSA is still incompletely understood, patient identification is difficult and the necessity for specific treatment is under debate. CSA often accompanies heart failure and is associated with an adverse prognosis. Optimized heart failure treatment reduces CSA and is thus the cornerstone of CSA treatment. In contrast to OSA, noninvasive ventilation does not lead to prognostic improvement in CSA and ASV ventilation may even lead to an increase in mortality. Transvenous neurostimuation of the phrenic nerve is currently under clinical investigation as a new therapeutic modality for CSA. Early results demonstrate positive effects on sleep parameters and quality of life without any evidence for a negative impact on mortality. However, these results await confirmation in larger studies before this new approach can be advocated for routine clinical use.

Abstract
Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) has been recognized as one of the important causes or factors of worsening for various cerebro- and cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, a recent large randomized study and meta-analysis about the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) indicated no or only minor effects to improve the outcome of SDB patients. Accumulating evidence has indicated that the key factor of the link between SDB and cardiovascular diseases might be hypoxia caused during repetitive long apneic episodes. Hypertension and atrial fibrillation (AF) are two important cardiovascular diseases that relate to SDB and the therapeutic consequences by CPAP treatment have been studied. As for the mechanism that elevates blood pressure during night, stimulation of chemoreceptors by hypoxia and the resultant increase in sympathetic nervous activity is the first step and repetitive hypoxic stimulation changes the characteristics of chemoreceptors and baroreceptors resulting in daytime hypertension. Pathological changes in the atrial muscle in SDB patients might be a result of repetitive hypoxia and atrial expansion. As for triggering AF, several animal studies revealed that the changes in autonomic nervous system caused by hypoxia and negative intra-thoracic pressure might be crucial. However, a recent observational study could not show the relation between SDB and AF. The difference between the previous studies and this negative study seems to exist in the difference of the severity of SDB or the degree of hypoxia. Such a difference might be also one of the reasons why a recent randomized trial to prove the effect of CPAP in cardio- or cerebrovascular patients failed to improve the patient prognosis. Hence, in this review, the relationship between hypoxia and onset or continuation of hypertension and AF will be reconsidered to understand the fundamental and robust relationship between SDB and these cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the effects of embryonic lead exposure on motor function and balance ability in offspring rats and the possible mechanisms. METHODS An animal model of embryonic lead exposure was prepared with the use of pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats freely drinking 0.1% (low-dose group, LG) or 0.2% (high-dose group, HG) lead acetate solution. A normal control group (NG) was also set. The male offspring rats of these pregnant rats were included in the study, consisting of 12 rats in the NG group, 10 rats in the LG group, and 9 rats in the HG group. The offspring rats' motor function and balance ability were evaluated using body turning test and coat hanger test. Eight rats were randomly selected from each group, and immunohistochemistry and Timm's staining were employed to measure the expression of c-Fos and mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) in the hippocampus. RESULTS The HG group had a significantly longer body turning time than the NG and LG groups (P<0.05), and the LG group had a significantly longer body turning time than the NG group (P<0.05). The HG group had a significantly lower score of balance ability than the NG and LG groups (P<0.05), and the LG group had a significantly lower score of balance ability than the NG group (P<0.05). The area percentage of c-Fos-positive neurons in the hippocampal CA1 region was significantly higher in the HG group than in the other two groups (P<0.05), and it was significantly higher in the LG group than in the NG group (P<0.05). The semi-quantitative scores of MFS in the hippocampal CA3 region and dentate gyrus were significantly higher in the HG group than in the other two groups (P<0.05), and they were significantly higher in the LG group than in the NG group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Embryonic lead exposure could impair the offspring rats' motor function and balance ability. These changes may be related to increased c-Fos expression in the hippocampal CA3 region and abnormal MFS in the hippocampal CA3 region and dentate gyrus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is a common chronic systemic disease in the general population, with known associated cardiovascular outcomes. We aimed to investigate arterial stiffness in OSAS patients and compare daytime and night-time values with control subjects. METHODS A total of 104 patients undergoing investigation for OSAS with polysomnography also underwent pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx) measurements with Mobil-O-Graph for 24 h. Eighty-two patients were found to have OSAS and 22 did not have OSAS and acted as controls. RESULTS PWV values of the 82 OSAS patients during the 24-h period, both daytime and night-time, were significantly higher than that of the control subjects. Moreover, night-time levels of AIx were significantly higher in OSAS patients than control subjects (P = 0.025). PWV during night-time was higher than daytime measurements in OSAS patients (P = 0.012). Apnoea hypopnoea index (AHI) was significantly correlated with PWV and AIx over 24 h (P = 0.0001, r = 0.412; P = 0.002, r = 0.333, respectively). Positive correlations were also found between oxygen desaturation index (ODI) with PWV and AIx during the night (P = 0.0001, r = 0.480; P = 0.002, r = 0.325, respectively). However, daytime AIx was not significantly correlated with ODI (P = 0.052, r = 0.205). CONCLUSION OSAS patients, without known cardiovascular disease, have increased PWV, indicating an increased arterial stiffness, compared with control subjects and correlations between AHI and arterial stiffness indices suggest increased arterial stiffness with increased disease severity. Therefore, arterial stiffness should be considered as a possible cause for cardiovascular complications in OSAS patients.

Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects a large proportion of adults, and is as an independent risk factor for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease. The repetitive airway obstruction that characterizes OSA results in intermittent hypoxia, intrathoracic pressure swings, and sleep fragmentation, which in turn lead to sympathetic activation, oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. This review outlines the associations between OSA and vascular diseases and describes basic mechanisms that may be responsible for this association, in both the micro- and macrocirculation. Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is associated with repeated intermittent hypoxemia, and it is known as one of the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies assessing the effects of frequency and depth of hypoxemia on cardiovascular diseases have shown conflicting results. The aim of the current study was to clarify what SDB-related parameters most predict endothelial dysfunction to better understand the pathogenesis of endothelial dysfunction in patients with SDB. METHODS We conducted polysomnography (PSG) and measured flow-mediated vasodilation response (%FMD) in 50 outpatients suspected of SDB. Evaluated indices included: apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), 3% oxygen desaturation index (3%ODI), averaged arterial oxygen saturation (averaged SpO2), lowest arterial oxygen saturation (lowest SpO2), ratio of arterial oxygen saturation <90% ( RESULTS Significant differences were observed only in the TDS between the first and third (P = 0.03) and between the first and forth (P = 0.04) quartile groups, stratified by %FMD. The %FMD showed a significant relationship with TDS (β = -0.47, P = 0.001), even after adjusting for confounding factors (β = -0.33, P = 0.02). In contrast, AHI, 3%ODI, averaged SpO2, lowest SpO2, and CONCLUSIONS This study shows the validity of TDS in predicting endothelial damage in patients with SDB. Cumulative hypoxemia, rather than the frequency of hypoxemic events presented as AHI, may be a greater contributing factor in causing endothelial dysfunction. A simple index like TDS may be a useful and novel indicator of the influence of SDB on the vasculature.

Abstract
Aberrant release of adipocytokines from adipose tissues dysregulates cardiometabolic functions. The present study hypothesizes that chronic intermittent hypoxia (IH) present in obstructive sleep apnea leads to adipose tissue dysfunction, which in turn contributes to vascular pathogenesis. The effect of IH was evaluated in adipose depots and aortic tissues in lean rats in vivo. Furthermore, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying pathophysiological interactions between adipocytes and endothelial cells were investigated in vitro. The in vivo results showed that IH induced upregulation of IL-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in subcutaneous and periaortic adipose tissues and downregulated phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase [eNOS (ser1177)] in the aorta with activation of Erk and p38 MAPK. In support, cultured adipocytes demonstrated IH-induced elevations of NADPH oxidase 4, phosphorylation of Erk, NF-κBp65, and inducible NOS (iNOS) and increased expression of IL-6 and MCP-1. Likewise, endothelial EA.hy926 (EA) cells exposed to IH showed eNOS (ser1177) and intracellular cGMP reduction, whereas MCP-1 and iNOS expression were upregulated. Treatment of EA cells with conditioned media derived from IH-exposed cultured adipocytes caused nuclear translocation of NF-κBp65 and elevation of MCP-1, which were prevented by addition of neutralizing IL-6 antibodies to the conditioned media. Recombinant IL-6 in addition to IH induced further MCP-1 release and iNOS protein expression in EA cells, which were prevented by pharmacological inhibition of Erk, p38, and NF-κB. These findings suggest that IH could induce adipose tissue inflammation, which may cross talk with endothelial cells via adipocyte-derived mediators such as IL-6, and promote NF-κB-dependent endothelial dysfunction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to evaluate exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) derived from different areas of airway in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients with NO exchange model and investigate the potential application and interpretation of eNO in clinical setting. METHODS This study was divided into two parts. Firstly, we performed a case control study in 32 OSAHS patients and 27 non-OSAHS participants. Fractional eNO (FeNO) and eNO from the central airway (J'awNO) and from alveoli (CANO) were compared in OSAHS and control groups. Also, correlation of eNO to severity of OSAHS was analyzed. Secondly, a prospective study was conducted in 30 severe OSAHS patients who received a short-term nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) treatment. We evaluated eNO, plasma ET-1 concentration, and echocardiography during the treatment process and explored the potential relationship among them. RESULTS FeNO and J'awNO were higher in OSAHS and associated with disease severity, while CANO was relatively lower. After nCPAP treatment in severe OSAHS patients, FeNO and J'awNO decreased and CANO increased significantly. Substantial agreement was shown between the elevation of CANO and the decrease of plasma ET-1 concentration after nCPAP by Kappa analysis for consistency. Tei index, which is considered indicative of global right ventricular function, might be predicted by plasma ET-1 levels in severe OSAHS patients. CONCLUSIONS NO exchange model provides us with more information of eNO derived from different areas. eNO is not only confirmed to be an effective method for airway inflammation evaluation in the follow-up of OSAHS, CANO may also serve as a useful marker in monitoring endothelial function, resistance of pulmonary circulation, and right ventricular function for clinical implication.

Abstract
Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a highly prevalent, though often unrecognized, comorbidity in patients with heart failure (HF). Data from HF population studies suggest that it may present in 30% to 50% of HF patients. CSA is recognized as an important contributor to the progression of HF and to HF-related morbidity and mortality. Over the past 2 decades, an expanding body of research has begun to shed light on the pathophysiologic mechanisms of CSA. Armed with this growing knowledge base, the sleep, respiratory, and cardiovascular research communities have been working to identify ways to treat CSA in HF with the ultimate goal of improving patient quality of life and clinical outcomes. In this paper, we examine the current state of knowledge about the mechanisms of CSA in HF and review emerging therapies for this disorder.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, and may cause severe morbidity and mortality. Recent studies have indicated that OSA patients exhibited elevated platelet activity, fibrinogen levels, and platelet aggregation. OBJECTIVES We investigated the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients diagnosed with OSA compared with age- and sex-matched unaffected people. PATIENTS/METHODS This longitudinal, nationwide, population-based cohort study was conducted using data from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) recorded between January 2000 and December 2011. The study consisted of 3511 patients with OSA and 35110 matched comparison individuals. A Cox proportional hazard regression was used to compute the risk of DVT and PE in patients with OSA compared with those without OSA. RESULTS The DVT and PE risks were 3.50- and 3.97-fold higher (95% CI=1.83-6.69 and 1.85-8.51) respectively, in the OSA cohort than in the reference cohort after we adjusted for age, sex, and comorbidities. CONCLUSION This nationwide population-based cohort study indicates that patients with OSA exhibit a higher risk of subsequent DVT and PE.

Abstract
One of the less well-documented, potentially modifiable stroke risk factor is the obstructive sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea increases cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, including stroke risk. The article summarizes the pathophysiological factors in sleep apnea syndrome which can increase stroke risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased oxidative stress. Certain essential trace minerals have shown to play an important role in the maintenance of redox homeostasis. We determined the concentrations of trace minerals in OSA patients and assessed their relationships to OSA severity as indicated by the apnea/ hypopnea index (AHI). METHODS We enrolled 44 patients with newly diagnosed mild to moderate OSA and 20 without OSA. The following parameters were measured: polysomnographic values of nocturnal sleep; plasma trace minerals zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and erythrocyte selenium (Se); oxidative stress status; and plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). RESULTS Compared to controls matched for age, gender, and body mass index, OSA patients had lower concentrations of plasma Zn and erythrocyte Se and higher plasma concentrations of Cu and Fe. OSA patients had significantly higher plasma concentrations of hs-CRP, TNF-α, and malondialdehyde (MDA), and lower erythrocyte antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase activities. Significant differences in all the above parameters were also found in patients with moderate OSA compared to those with mild OSA. Furthermore, AHI values correlated significantly with neck circumference, GPx activity, and MDA, hs-CRP, and TNF-α concentrations in OSA patients. AHI values were also negatively associated with concentrations of plasma Zn and erythrocyte Se, but were positively linked to plasma concentrations of Fe and Cu. CONCLUSIONS Abnormal concentrations of these trace minerals may reflect oxidative damage and inflammatory response, thus increasing the severity of OSA.
