Abstract
Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is a severe cutaneous drug adverse reaction characterized by various cutaneous and systemic manifestations. However, reports on the various patterns of alopecia after DRESS are lacking. Thus, we aimed to describe cases of alopecia after DRESS and review the literature. This multicentric retrospective study reviewed the records of 182 patients diagnosed with DRESS from 2009 to 2021; of these, 10 who had alopecia after DRESS were included. Patients were diagnosed with permanent alopecia (n = 4), telogen effluvium (n = 5), and alopecia areata (n = 1), and were treated with topical minoxidil or alfatradiol (6; 60%), topical corticosteroids (3; 30%), dietary supplements (6; 60%), systemic corticosteroids (1; 10%), and intralesional corticosteroid injection (2; 20%). Although patients with permanent alopecia did not show hair regrowth after 6 months, those with telogen effluvium and alopecia areata experienced marked clinical improvement within 6 months. Various types of alopecia can persist over an extended period, even after the resolution of an acute episode of DRESS.

Abstract
Hair loss is a widespread concern in dermatology clinics, affecting both men's and women's quality of life. Hair loss can have many different causes, which are critical to identify in order to provide appropriate treatment. Hair loss can happen due to many variables, such as genetic factors or predisposition, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, skin problems, hair growth disorders, poor diet, hormonal problems, certain internal diseases, drug use, stress and depression, cosmetic factors, childbirth, and the chemotherapy process. Treatment for hair loss varies depending on the type of alopecia, deficiency, or excess of structures such as vitamins and minerals, and also on hair and skin structure. The Mediterranean diet is characterized by low amounts of saturated fat, animal protein, and high amounts of unsaturated fat, fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants. The main nutrients found in the Mediterranean Diet are rich in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory components. It also has an important place in hair loss treatment, since recently treatment strategies have included polyphenols and unsaturated oils more and more frequently. The goal of this work was to review published articles examining alopecia and its types, the many micronutrients that affect alopecia, and the role of the Mediterranean diet in alopecia. The literature shows that little is known about hair loss, nutritional factors, and diet, and that the data collected are conflicting. Given these differences, research into the function of diet and nutrition in the treatment of baldness is a dynamic and growing topic.

Abstract
Background Autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBD) are characterised by the body's production of autoantibodies against structural proteins in the epidermis and/or the basement membrane on cutaneous and mucosal surfaces. Alopecia is a complication of AIBD that has generally been overlooked in patients with severe blistering diseases because it is regarded as a cosmetic issue. Yet recent research into quality of life tools has found that stigmatisation by appearance plays a significant role in blistering diseases. Aim To review the current literature detailing the pathogenesis and clinical presentations of alopecia in AIBD patients. Method We searched Medline, PubMed and EMBASE electronic databases up to September 2018, for empirical human and animal studies. Results Only 36 human studies including 223 patients (190 pemphigus, 25 pemphigoid, 5 epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, 2 dermatitis herpetiformis and 1 linear IgA disease) detailed demographic and clinical manifestations of alopecia. A range of hair evaluation methods was demonstrated to reach alopecia diagnosis. Furthermore, with no universal validated scoring system for alopecia severity, alopecia patterns have been summarised. Conclusion Previous randomised trials have not highlighted alopecia as an important outcome of AIBD, so epidemiological evaluation of the available literature has been helpful in summarising trends between existing studies and demonstrating inconsistencies.

Abstract
Histopathologic interpretation of horizontal scalp sections is difficult because of the anatomical complexity of the normal pilosebaceous structures in different stages of the hair cycle. The objective of this work was to create a simplified approach that facilitates the diagnosis of horizontal sections. Nine easy to memorize images (photomnemonics) that resemble diagnostic patterns and features in horizontal scalp biopsies were identified after a year of evaluation of horizontal sections. To verify the matched combinations, 2 dermatopathologists and 15 dermatology residents were asked to complete a validation test. After a short PowerPoint introduction, they had to link 9 projected histopathologic slides to the corresponding photomnemonics from the answer sheet. The validation test showed that out of the 153 answered questions, 140 (92%) were correct, which confirms the relevance of the suggested associations: (1) nonscarring alopecias present with a "floral" pattern. The hair follicles and preserved follicular units can be assimilated to different flowers and plants. (2) In scarring alopecias, the most common pattern is the "eyes and goggles" on background of follicular dropout and fibrosis. The photomnemonics method does not substitute the conventional learning of the hair anatomy. It is rather an adjuvant tool that helps dermatopathologists to increase their interest and skills in hair pathology.

Abstract
Background: Cicatricial alopecias have a significant impact on the psychological status, quality of life, and social interaction of those suffering from it. Till date, limited or no data have been available regarding the psychosocial and quality of life aspects of cicatricial alopecias. Aims: To assess the psychosocial impact of cicatricial alopecias. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients fulfilling the criteria for cicatricial alopecia irrespective of their age and sex were included in the study. Psychosocial assessment was carried out in 23 patients who were capable of responding to the questionnaire, using an adopted and suitably modified version of Women's Androgenetic Alopecia Quality of Life Questionnaire. Results: We observed that 73.9% of our patients with cicatricial alopecias had moderate to severe psychosocial impact due to their hair loss. Patients of younger age group and with inactive disease, suffered from greater psychosocial impact of the disease. Patients with slight hair loss also had considerable psychological distress. The chronicity of disease duration did not seem to reduce the psychosocial impact of the disease. Both married and unmarried patients suffered equally from the psychosocial impact of the disease. Conclusion: The management of cicatricial alopecias needs a holistic approach. In addition to laying an emphasis on early diagnosis aided by clinco-pathological correlation, to prevent irreversible hair loss, the psychosocial impact of the disease should also be taken into consideration and addressed by the treating dermatologist.

Abstract
Cicatricial (scarring) alopecia forms a group of disorders in which the common final pathway is the destruction of the hair follicle unit that is replaced by fibrous tissue. Hair loss may occur as a primary event when the follicle is the main target of the disease process (primary cicatricial alopecias) or as a secondary event when the follicle act as an 'innocent bystander' in the course of a disease occurring outside of the follicular unit (secondary cicatricial alopecias). Permanent hair loss may also occur in the late phases of some nonscarring alopecias that are called 'biphasic alopecias.' Primary cicatricial alopecia accounts for 5% of all trichologic consultations at the Section of Dermatology, University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy. Considering that hair loss has a strong impact on patients' psychology and quality of life, and that cicatricial alopecias can be associated with underlying systemic implications, it is extremely important that every clinician is familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of the different types of cicatricial alopecia. An accurate clinical assessment integrated with (video) dermatoscopy and histopathologic studies permits a high standard performance of correct diagnoses. A brief review of our current knowledge of disease pathogenesis and the hypothetical disease mechanisms is presented. Some practical considerations for improving the 2001 North American Hair Research Society working classification of the primary cicatricial alopecias are suggested. The aim of treatment is to slow or stop the progression of the inflammatory waves and the scarring process at the earliest phase of involvement. Recommendations for therapy are based upon a literature review, personal experience, expected adverse effects, and some pragmatic considerations such as the cost and patient compliance.

Abstract
Hair abnormalities can have tremendous psychosocial impacts on adolescents and young adults, and may cause a great amount of anxiety regarding physical appearance, associated illnesses, and potential clinical course. The pathophysiology of such disorders may vary,with potential congenital, infectious, autoimmune, nutritional, or environmental causes. Hair abnormalities may present as changes in hair appearance or quality, becoming weathered or fractured.An abnormal increase in hair is present in hypertrichosis and hirsutism, whereas a thinning or shedding of hair is evident in patients with telogen effluviumand alopecia areata. Diagnosis is focused on a detailed clinical history and physical exam, in addition to laboratory testing, a variety of clinical diagnostic tests, and scalp biopsy, which may be necessary to confirm some diagnoses. Many hair disorders have no cure, but clinicians can have a positive impact on their patients by identifying the abnormality and educating the patient regarding disease course. However, some conditions such as infectious hair disorders or scarring alopecia should be identified promptly to initiate treatment and ensure clinical improvement or optimal outcome.
