Abstract
Teen pregnancy and parenting remain important public health issues in the United States and around the world. A significant proportion of teen parents reside with their families of origin, which may positively or negatively affect the family structure. Teen parents, defined as those 15 to 19 years of age, are at high risk for repeat births. Pediatricians can play an important role in the care of adolescent parents and their children. This clinical report updates a previous report on the care of adolescent parents and their children and addresses clinical management specific to this population, including updates on breastfeeding, prenatal management, and adjustments to parenthood. Challenges unique to teen parents and their children are reviewed, along with suggestions for the pediatrician on models for intervention and care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Clinicians and researchers are increasingly interested in investigating excessive use of video gaming recently named Internet gaming disorder (IGD). As is the case with extensively researched adolescent problem behaviors such as substance use disorder, several studies associate IGD with the young person's family environment and the parent-adolescent relationship in particular. Evidence-based treatments for a range of adolescent clinical problems including behavioral addictions demonstrate efficacy, the capacity for transdiagnostic adaptation, and lasting impact. However, less attention has been paid to developing and testing science-based interventions for IGD, and at present most tested interventions for IGD have been individual treatments (cognitive behavioral therapy). METHODS This article presents the rationale for a systemic conceptualization of IGD and a therapeutic approach that targets multiple units or subsystems. The IGD treatment program is based on the science-supported multidimensional family therapy approach (MDFT). Following treatment development work, the MDFT approach has been adapted for IGD. RESULTS The article discusses recurring individual and family-based clinical themes and therapeutic responses in the MDFT-IGD clinical model, which tailors interventions for individuals and subsystems within the young person's family. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Basic science developmental research can inform conceptualization of IGD and a systemic logic model of intervention and change. This paper aims to expand treatment theorizing and intervention approaches for practitioners working with frequently life-altering behaviors of excessive Internet gaming. We operationalize this aim by addressing the question of why and how parents should be involved in youth IGD treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Many nurses rely on the American Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Training (NCAST) Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) Teaching and Feeding Scales to identify and target interventions for families affected by severe/chronic stressors (e.g. postpartum depression (PPD), intimate partner violence (IPV), low-income). However, the NCAST Database that provides normative data for comparisons may not apply to Canadian families. The purpose of this study was to compare NCAST PCI scores in Canadian and American samples and to assess the reliability of the NCAST PCI Scales in Canadian samples. METHODS This secondary analysis employed independent samples t-tests (p < 0.005) to compare PCI between the American NCAST Database and Canadian high-risk (families with PPD, exposure to IPV or low-income) and community samples. Cronbach's alphas were calculated for the Canadian and American samples. RESULTS In both American and Canadian samples, belonging to a high-risk population reduced parents' abilities to engage in sensitive and responsive caregiving (i.e. healthy serve and return relationships) as measured by the PCI Scales. NCAST Database mothers were more effective at executing caregiving responsibilities during PCI compared to the Canadian community sample, while infants belonging to the Canadian community sample provided clearer cues to caregivers during PCI compared to those of the NCAST Database. Internal consistency coefficients for the Canadian samples were generally acceptable. CONCLUSIONS The NCAST Database can be reliably used for assessing PCI in normative and high-risk Canadian families. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Canadian nurses can be assured that the PCI Scales adequately identify risks and can help target interventions to promote optimal parent-child relationships and ultimately child development.

Abstract
Introducción: El nacimiento prematuro de un bebé genera estrés en los padres, por el riesgo de aumento en la morbimortalidadque esto conlleva. Existen intervenciones que disminuyen el nivel de estrés en los padres beneficiando a su vez el neurodesarrollo delrecién nacido. Objetivo: Categorizar los principales componentes de los programas de intervención temprana y determinar el efecto deestas intervenciones en la disminución del nivel de estrés en padres de prematuros hospitalizados. Método: Meta-análisis con 9 ensayosclínicos controlados, que cumplieron los criterios de rigurosidad metodológica. Resultados: las intervenciones aplicadas a los padresde prematuros hospitalizados, mostraron efecto de intensidad media-baja sobre el nivel de estrés percibido (d=0,36 IC [-0.68, -0,05]).Sin embargo, las pruebas de heterogeneidad indican alta variabilidad inter-estudio (Q(df=8) = p-val: <0,00001), I2=85% ), explicadaparcialmente por las características moderadoras codificadas para los estudios. Conclusiones: aunque las intervenciones mostraronefectos positivos en la disminución del nivel de estrés en los padres, se evidencia que la educación y el apoyo emocional en conjunto logranun mejor efecto. Las futuras investigaciones deben analizar aspectos como calidad de los estudios, intervenciones con apoyo emocional,edad de los padres y diversidad en los contextos de aplicación.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Reflective functioning (RF), the capacity to envision thoughts, feelings, needs and intentions within the self and others, is thought to be central to sensitive parenting, yet this capacity has been unexamined among pregnant adolescents. We explored how RF was related to the emotional experience of adolescent pregnancy. DESIGN AND METHODS This qualitative study was guided by interpretive description. Participants were 30 Latina and African-American adolescents (mean age 17.7+1.5years) residing in a low-income urban community. All adolescents were interviewed with the Pregnancy Interview (a 22 question semi-structured interview) in their third trimester of pregnancy. Interview transcripts had been previously coded for levels of RF (1-9 with higher levels denoting higher reflectiveness), and this secondary analysis focused on the teens' experience of pregnancy and their emerging reflective capacities. We used a priori and inductive coding with all interviews and developed patterns and themes. RESULTS These interviews provided an in-depth understanding of the complex adolescent emotional experiences of pregnancy. We identified five themes that create a picture of how the participants reflected upon their pregnancies, unborn babies, emerging parental roles, and complicated relationships with family and partners. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Adolescent developmental issues and harsh family and neighborhood environments permeated the teens' experience of pregnancy and limited capacity for RF. Understanding distinctive features of RF in pregnant adolescents may contribute to developing conceptual models and tailored clinical approaches for enhancing parental reflectiveness and sensitivity in these vulnerable young women as they enter into the transition to parenthood.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of bed-sharing and examine correlates of bed-sharing habits in early adolescents. METHODS Participants were 1452 early adolescents from 10 primary schools in Shanghai, China. Children's health status and past history, family environment and parents' attitude towards bed-sharing, and children's sleep arrangements were surveyed. Sleep was assessed by the Children's Sleep Habit Questionnaire. Tanner stage was determined by the endocrinologist. RESULTS The median of age was 10.83 years (range: 9.42-12.92; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 10.79-10.83) and boys accounted for 51.17%. The prevalence of bed-sharing was 16.8%. Positive parental attitude toward bed-sharing (OR: 9.87; 95% CI: 6.57-14.83), asthma (OR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.16-3.98), smaller residential space (OR: 1.90; 95% CI: 1.17-3.09), extended family (OR: 1.59; 95% CI: 1.16-2.18), and being physically less mature (OR: 2.39; 95% CI: 1.16-4.91) increased the likelihood of bed-sharing. Bed-sharers were more likely to have bedtime resistance (OR: 12.20; 95% CI: 8.59-17.33), sleep anxiety (OR: 3.76; 95% CI: 2.74-5.15), and poor sleep quality (OR: 3.21; 95% CI: 2.28-4.81) compared to non-bed-sharers. Furthermore, bed-sharing was associated with daytime sleepiness (OR: 1.53; 95% CI: 1.10-2.13) but not with sleep duration. CONCLUSIONS Bed-sharing is highly prevalent among Chinese early adolescents and is significantly related to sleep quality. Parental positive attitude toward bed-sharing was the most determining factor.

Abstract
PURPOSE This integrative review concerns nursing research on parent-child interaction and relationships published from 1980 through 2008 and includes assessment and intervention studies in clinically important settings (e.g., feeding, teaching, play). CONCLUSIONS Directions for research include development of theoretical frameworks, valid observational systems, and multivariate and longitudinal data analytic strategies. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Observation of social-emotional as well as task-related interaction qualities in the context of assessing parent-child relationships could generate new questions for nursing research and for family-centered nursing practice.

Abstract
PURPOSE Understanding the parent-child relationship is fundamental to nursing of children and families. The purpose of this integrative review is to explore nursing scholarship published from 1980-2008 concerning parent-child relationships. Study approaches are examined, critiqued, and future directions for research identified. CONCLUSIONS A historical review of nursing research is presented and methods described as an introduction to a review series of the parent-child relationship. IMPLICATIONS Definition and explication of the parent-child relationship is a first-step in understanding factors amenable to nursing intervention. A clear definition of the concept of parent-child relationship will support further study using appropriate theoretical frameworks, and enable development and testing of supportive nursing interventions.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this integrative review is to systematically and critically synthesize nursing scholarship on parents' perspectives of the parent-child relationship during infancy. CONCLUSION Research has shown that the process of establishing the parent-child relationship is highly individualized and complex. Numerous barriers and facilitators influencing this relationship have been identified that are relevant to nursing. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Nurses have an important opportunity to positively affect the developing parent-infant relationship. Screening parents for depression and providing parents with resources and support are key nursing interventions supporting the parent-infant relationship.
