Abstract
Introduction: Gingival depigmentation with the help of lasers is known as an effective technique. The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of 980nm diode and CO2 lasers in the treatment of gingival hyperpigmentation. Methods: In this clinical trial study, 14 individuals (8 females and 6 males) with the age range of 19 to 47 years were selected. One quadrant was randomly treated with CO2 laser (10600 nm, non-contact, super pulse mode) and the opposite quadrant was treated with a diode laser (980 nm, continuous wave [CW], 1.5 W). The area of the pigmented region, Dummett oral pigmentation index (DOPI), the amount of changes in the RGB parameter (red, green, blue) and ΔE* in clinical photographs before, one and three months after the treatment were calculated by ImageJ and Photoshop software. Pain and discomfort were assessed one hour, one day and one week later by the visual analogue scale (VAS). In addition, after 3 months, the cosmetic results achieved for the different therapeutic approaches were evaluated by patients and professional evaluator. Data were analyzed by the paired samples t test, repeated measures ANOVA and Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of this study showed that the duration of CO2 laser treatment was statistically and significantly shorter than the time of 980-diode laser treatment (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the pigmented lesion area (P>0.05), RGB parameter (P>0.05), DOPI index (P>0.05) and ΔE parameter (P>0.05) in one month and three months after treatment follow-ups between the two types of lasers. There was no statistically significant difference in patient satisfaction (P>0.05) and professional evaluation (P>0.05) between the two groups of lasers. Post-treatment pain scores were not statistically significant between the two groups. Conclusion: Both 980-nm diode laser and 10600-nm CO2 are effective in the treatment of gingival depigmentation while CO2 laser radiation with super pulse mode is faster in terms of operating time. Abstract
BACKGROUND Physiologic gingival hyperpigmentation is a common esthetic concern that affects individuals of various ethnicities, and can have a significant impact on individual's self-confidence and overall quality of life. Thus, this study aimed to clinically assess the effectiveness of intra-mucosal injection of vitamin C versus 980 nm diode laser for the management of physiologic gingival hyperpigmentation. METHODS Twenty-six healthy non-smoker individuals with physiologic gingival hyperpigmentation were randomly assigned to two groups. Group I received intra-mucosal injection of vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid 1000 mg/5 ml), and group II was managed using diode laser (980 nm, 1.5 W, continuous wave mode). Clinical evaluation of pigmentation intensity and distribution was performed preoperatively, and at 1, 2 and 3 months postoperatively using two different color assessment indices; Dummett-Gupta Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI), and Gingival Pigmentation Index (GPI). Additionally, the study assessed pain intensity and patients' satisfaction. RESULTS Pigmentation scores decreased significantly between pre-operative visit and different follow-up visits for both treatment modalities (p < 0.0001*). When compared to the vitamin C mesotherapy group, the laser group demonstrated significantly lower gingival pigmentation scores (p < 0.0001*). However, both treatment modalities were equally satisfying for the patients. CONCLUSIONS Vitamin C mesotherapy and diode laser are both effective in the management of physiologic gingival hyperpigmentation. While diode laser yields better and earlier results, vitamin C mesotherapy offers a cost-effective, safe and minimally invasive approach that is equally satisfying for the patients seeking esthetic enhancements. Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral-pigmented lesions have raised aesthetic concerns, leading to multiple depigmentation techniques. This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of different treatments for oral hyperpigmentation. METHODS A computerized search was conducted on Science Direct, Medline via PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science using the relevant keywords. English-language studies published between 2013 and 2023 that focused on patients with oral pigmented lesions subjected to different treatment modalities, such as laser or surgical intervention, were compared to determine their efficacy and safety profile. Data were analyzed using R software, applying frequentist models. RESULTS A total of 27 studies were included. In contrast to the CO2 laser, Er: YAG laser was linked to a higher risk of bleeding (RR = 2.73, p < 0.01), whereas the diode laser had the most favorable score in minimizing bleeding index (P-score = 0.86). In terms of lower risk and postoperative pain score (RR = 0.01, p < 0.01), the Er,Cr:YSGG laser had the most favorable result (P-score = 1.00). The Er: YAG laser demonstrated the highest probability of preventing recurrence (RR = 0.28, p < 0.01), followed by the diode laser (RR = 0.42, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The choice of treatment for oral pigmentation should be based on individual patient needs and the desired outcomes. The Er: YAG laser seems highly effective in preventing pigment recurrence, the diode laser emerges as a top contender in managing bleeding risks, and the Er,Cr:YSGG laser is particularly efficacious in managing postoperative pain.

Abstract
This investigation has aimed to compare the efficiency of clinical depigmentation and repigmentation rate of erbium chromium-doped: yttrium, scandium, gallium, garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) and diode lasers during a 1-year follow-up and to evaluate patient satisfaction. Twenty-two participants were divided into Er,Cr:YSGG laser and diode laser groups using computer-aided randomization. Dummett Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI) and photographic assessment with ImageJ Software version 10.2 were performed at the preoperative period and postoperative 1st month, 6th month, and 12th month. Moreover, the study assessed intra- and postoperative intensities of pain and postoperative patient aesthetic satisfaction using the Visual Analog Scale in both groups. The median values of DOPI did not differ statistically between the groups according to time (p > 0.05). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the extension of repigmentation was less as compared to the diode group at 1-year follow-up (p = 0.045). In the Er,Cr:YSGG group, the patients felt less intraoperative pain and discomfort compared to the diode group (p = 0.007). No significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of patient aesthetic satisfaction at the 1st and 12th months. The findings indicate that diode and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers can be used safely in depigmentation treatment, while the Er,Cr:YSGG laser has been shown to have superiorities in pain management and patient comfort parameters. Abstract
BACKGROUND Smile aesthetics has a vital role to play in an individual's life and one of the factors affecting the beauty of the smile is gingival color. A gingival color change or gingival hyperpigmentation causes an unesthetic smile line, especially in patients with a gummy smile, which is also known as a black gummy smile. Numerous gingival depigmentation methods have been performed successfully for ablating gingival melanin pigmented epithelium. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the treatment efficacy of gingival hyperpigmentation by using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with 38 patients at a hospital in Vietnam. Ponnaiyan classification and the Hedin melanin index were used to assess the distribution and extent of gingival pigmentation in the study. Pain assessment was performed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to evaluate the intensity of pain during the laser treatment. In addition, clinical evaluation (i.e., wound healing) of each treatment procedure was conducted using the three level Dummett-Gupta Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI) assessment. RESULTS This study showed that less pain was experienced by patients treated by CO2 laser; the rates of no pain, mild pain and moderate pain after treatment were, respectively, 21%, 76% and 2.6%; there was 100% complete epithelization after 1 week. The DOPI rates for turning from a DOPI score of 1, 2 or 3 to a DOPI score of 0 after a 12-week treatment were 87.5%, 76.9% and 24%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Using a CO2 laser for gingival melanin pigmentation treatment is a safe and effective procedure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Seborrheic keratoses (SKs) are the most common benign epithelial tumors encountered in clinical practice. Complications associated with traditional treatments of SKs urge the scientists to seek alternative treatment modalities. Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of 2940-nm erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser versus 980-nm diode laser both clinically and dermoscopically for the treatment of seborrheic keratosis. METHODS Thirty subjects with multiple SKs were randomized to receive two sessions of either Er:YAG laser (n = 15) or diode laser (n = 15) and were followed up for 2 weeks after each session, and at 3 and 6 months after the second session. RESULTS Both lasers exhibited significant clearance of SKs with no significant difference in clinical and dermoscopic improvement between the two systems. However, Er:YAG laser showed shorter total downtime but more serious erythema, while scarring and hyperpigmentation were observed in diode laser group. No recurrence was detected in both groups at 6 months follow-up. CONCLUSION Er:YAG and diode lasers both are effective, non-invasive and well-tolerated techniques in treatment of SKs.

Abstract
Background Gingival hyperpigmentation, “black gum,” refers to black discrete single or multiple pigments on the gingiva. Several factors may play a role in gingival hyperpigmentation ranging from physiologic pigmentation to manifestations of systemic diseases. Several techniques have been used for gingival depigmentation to lighten its color. Methods Fifteen patients exhibiting nonsmoking melanin hyperpigmentation, with the mean age of 28.6 ± 7.8 years, were recruited. The facial gingiva of the anterior teeth and premolars of each jaw was divided into two halves. The right or left side of each jaw quadrant randomly received either diode laser operating at 980 nm wavelength or erbium-YAG laser at 2940 nm. Parameters such as degree of gingival depigmentation, bleeding, pain, patient satisfaction, and wound healing were assessed and compared between the two techniques. The subjects were followed up to six months for melanin pigmentation recurrence. Results Both techniques were efficient for gingival depigmentation. Nevertheless, bleeding during surgery was statistically higher for Er:YAG laser technique as compared to diode laser. Wound healing showed statistically nonsignificant differences between the two lasers, although Er:YAG seems to give better outcomes than the diode. The patients were satisfied with both laser techniques during and after gingival depigmentation. However, the pain score was higher for Er:YAG laser than for diode laser. Conclusion This study demonstrated that both lasers' techniques are efficient for gingival depigmentation. However, diode laser seems to show less painful experience and relatively better bleeding control.

Abstract
The paper deals with the medical application of diode-lasers. A short review of medical therapies is presented, taking into account the wavelength applied, continuous wave (cw) or pulsed regimes, and their therapeutic effects. Special attention was paid to the laryngological application of a pulsed diode laser with wavelength 810 nm, and dermatologic applications of a 975 nm laser working at cw and pulsed mode. The efficacy of the laser procedures and a comparison of the pulsed and cw regimes is presented and discussed.
