Abstract
BACKGROUND Enlarged pores are amidst one of the top cosmetic concerns, especially among Chinese. Many small-group studies have been conducted in understanding their prevalence and beauty relevance. Nonetheless, population-level investigations are still lacking because of gaps in data collection and processing of large-scale studies. Owing to the recent technological advancement enabled by artificial intelligence, databases on the scale of millions can be processed and analyzed readily. MATERIALS AND METHODS Powered by big data capabilities, revealed a number of novel trends on pore conditions among over-a-million Chinese participants recruited via the "You Look Great Today" mobile application. A scoring model was constructed, which demonstrated high consistency with conventional grading method from dermatologists. Environmental data (weather, air pollution, light at night satellite) were applied to correlate with pore severity. RESULTS Intraclass correlations between the two scoring systems were strong, with coefficients ranging from 0.79 to 0.92 for different facial areas. Statistical differences in pore severity among all four facial areas (cheek, forehead, nose, and overall) were observed, with the cheek exhibiting the most severe pore condition. Interestingly, Chinese men suffer from more severe pore condition than females. Multiple environmental factors exhibited strong correlations with cheek pore severity and were statistically fitted into linear regressions. Specifically, incremental risk with Each Low Temperature, Low Humidity, And High Solar Exposure correlate to worse cheek pore conditions. Although the Pearson correlation was low between cheek pore severity and light at night, comparison between representative cities demonstrated that in geologically similar cities, higher light at night corresponds to more severe cheek pore conditions. CONCLUSION Our study is showcasing a robust and reliable AI model in facial pore evaluation. More importantly, insights uncovered using this facile approach also bear significant cosmetic ramifications in treatment of pore enlargement.

Abstract
Skin aging is a complex process with internal and external factors. Recent studies have suggested that enlargement and elongation of skin pores may be early signs of aging in addition to wrinkles and loss of elasticity. This study explores the potential of targeting the SGPP2 gene in keratinocytes to address these emerging concerns. Using siRNA knockdown, we demonstrated that SGPP2 modulates the production of inflammatory cytokines (interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-8). Furthermore, conditioned media experiments revealed that keratinocytes with high SGPP2 expression indirectly influence fibroblast extracellular matrix remodeling, potentially contributing to enlarged pores and wrinkle formation. Based on these findings, we explored a complex formulation containing four SGPP2-modulating compounds. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated the efficacy of the formulation in mitigating fine wrinkles and pore enlargement. This study highlights the significant implications of developing a more effective antiaging cosmetic formulation by targeting underlying inflammatory processes that drive skin aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to evaluate the use of 755-nm picosecond alexandrite laser with a focus lens array to treat facial pores. METHODS Laser treatment was performed on 129 patients between January 2021 and October 2022. VISIA imaging system was used for photographic assessments, the total average number and pore index was calculated, the physicians' assessment score and patient satisfaction score were collected, and the incidence of disadvantage effects was also documented. RESULTS The mean patient age was 35.2±6.4 years (21-45 y). The total average number of facial pores was 1614.1±412.8, and the total average number decreased to 1262.6±356.2 three months after the last treatment. The pretreatment baseline of pore index was 26.1±4.5, while the pore index was 21.3±3.7 three months after the last treatment. The physicians' assessment score was 2.7 on the 0-to-4 scale, and patient satisfaction score was 3.5 on the 1-to-5 scale. There were no adverse events, such as hyperkeratosis, scarring, and hypo-or hyperpigmentation. CONCLUSIONS 755-nm picosecond alexandrite laser with a focus lens array was safe and effective in the treatment of facial pores with relatively few unanticipated adverse events. Abstract
Visual assessment, while the primary method for pigmentation and erythema evaluation in clinical practice, is subjective, time-consuming, and may lead to variability in observations among clinicians. Objective and quantitative techniques are required for a precise evaluation of the disease's severity and the treatment's efficacy. This research examines the precision and utility of a newly developed skin imaging system in assessing pigmentation and erythema. Sixty participants were recruited, and their facial images were analyzed with the new OBSERV 520 x skin imaging system, compared to DERMACATCH for regional analysis and VISIA for full-face examination. The degree of skin pigmentation was clinically graded using the MASI scores evaluated by dermatologists. The data revealed positive correlations between the novel skin imaging system and the two conventional instruments in quantifying pigmentation and erythema, whether in regional or full-face analysis. Furthermore, the new skin imaging system positively correlated with the clinical MASI scores (r = 0.4314, P < 0.01). In contrast, our study found no significant correlation between the traditional system and clinical assessment, indicating a more substantial capacity for hyperpigmentation assessment in the new system. Our study validates the innovative skin imaging system's accuracy in evaluating pigmentation and erythema, demonstrating its feasibility for quantitative evaluation in both clinical and research purposes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recommendations for cosmetics are gaining popularity, but they are not being made with consideration of the analysis of cosmetic ingredients, which customers consider important when selecting cosmetics. AIMS This article aims to propose a method for estimating the efficacy of cosmetics based on their ingredients and introduces a system that recommends personalized products for consumers, combined with AI skin analysis. METHODS We constructed a deep neural network architecture to analyze sequentially arranged cosmetic ingredients in the product and incorporated skin analysis models to get the precise skin status of users from frontal face images. Our recommendation system makes decisions based on the results optimized for the individual. RESULTS Our cosmetic recommendation system has shown its effectiveness through reliable evaluation metrics, and numerous examples have demonstrated its ability to make reasonable recommendations for various skin problems. CONCLUSION The result shows that deep learning methods can be used to predict the effects of products based on their cosmetic ingredients and are available for use in personalized cosmetic recommendations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Scarring, a pervasive issue spanning across medical disciplines, lacks a comprehensive terminology for effective communication, patient engagement, and outcome assessment. Existing scar classification systems are constrained by specific pathologies, physician-centric features, and inadequately account for emerging technologies. This study refrains from proposing yet another classification system and instead revisits the foundational language of scar morphology through a theme analysis of primary patient complaints. METHOD Data encompassing five years of a high-volume scar practice was analysed. Primary complaints were aggregated into collective descriptors and further organized into theme domains. The resulting hierarchical map of presenting complaints revealed five key domains: Loss of Function, Contour, Texture, Vector, and Colour Presenting complaints were codified into 42 items, which were then categorised into 14 collective descriptor terms. The latter were in turn organised into five overarching themes. RESULT Loss of Function, accounting for 10% of primary concerns, signifies reduced function attributed solely to the scar. Contour, encompassing 41% of concerns, pertains to scar height, shape, and depth. Texture, representing 12% of concerns, denotes tactile variations such as hardness, roughness, and moisture. Vector, comprising 13% of concerns, refers to scar tissue tension and associated distortions. Colour, the concern in 24% of cases, encompasses variations in pigmentation, vascularity, and exogenous pigments. DISCUSSION Standardized terminology enhances patient care, communication, and research. This study underscores the fundamental question of "what bothers the patient," reviving a patient-centred approach to scar management. By prioritizing themes based on patient complaints, this study innovatively integrates function, aesthetics, and patient experience. In conclusion, this study pioneers a paradigm shift in scar management by presenting a patient-driven theme framework that offers a common language for healthcare professionals and patients. Embracing this language harmonizes scar treatment, fosters innovation, and transforms scars from silent reminders into stories of resilience and healing.

Abstract
Background and Purpose Skin pores (SPs) are normal and benign skin structures that are mostly located on the face (nose, cheeks, etc.) that cause many aesthetic concerns or complaints. One known effective treatment is botulinum toxin A (BTXA), which is also approved for the treatment of strabismus, blepharospasm, muscle spasm, cervical dystonia, glabella wrinkles, and primary axillary hyperhidrosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effect of intra-dermal injection of botulinum toxin and normal saline serum (NSS) in the treatment of large facial pores. Methods The study included 25 people who referred to the skin clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz from June 2021 to January 2022 for the treatment of large facial skin pores. Randomly, some subjects were injected with botulinum toxin at ten points, and each point was equivalent to 2.5 units of Masport (500 units vial of Masport diluted with 10 ml of NSS). Some other people were injected with 0.05 ml of NSS by intra-dermal injection at ten points. Finally, the data were analyzed using SPSS-Ver. 22 software. Results Based on optical coherence tomography results, it was determined that the diameter of facial pores decreased significantly (P = 0.011). Dermoscopy showed a significant decrease in the average size of facial pores (P < 0.011), and also, the pore score decreased significantly (P = 0.021). In addition, the results showed that the size of skin pores and facial fat on both sides of the face did not decrease significantly from the patients' point of view (P = 0.71). Conclusion Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that intra-dermal injection of botulinum toxin is an effective and safe method to control facial pores, which showed acceptable results after 3 months.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oily skin is a common concern in the field of dermatology due to its association with excessive sebum production, acne, blackheads, and enlarged facial pores. Therefore, it is in great demand to develop effective cosmetics to manage oily skin. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a novel emulsion containing niacinamide, lens esculenta seed extract, and white willow bark extract for oily skin. METHODS The efficacy of a novel emulsion was evaluated through a 56-day clinical trial. The clinical efficacy of the product to ameliorate acne, blackheads, and conspicuous facial pores was assessed on 30 subjects with oily skin by VISIA, PRIMOS, professional dermatologist evaluations, and subject self-assessment. RESULTS In the clinical trial, the participants showed high satisfaction with the emulsion's efficacy, reporting significant improvement in skin sebum secretion, acne, facial pores, and blackheads. The efficacy of the novel emulsion was further validated through VISIA and PRIMOS measurements, along with professional dermatologist evaluations. CONCLUSION Our results showed that the novel emulsion containing three active ingredients could effectively improve acne, blackheads, and conspicuous facial pores.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Enlarged facial pores are a common cosmetic concern of the skin, rather than a disease, and have not received much attention from dermatologists in recent years. Consequently, progress in understanding their pathogenesis has been limited, and current cosmetic solutions have limitations. Given that the complement system has regained interest as a key player in chronic inflammatory skin conditions, various mechanisms involving this system are being investigated. OBJECTIVE We aimed to shed light on the mechanism underlying enlarged facial pores by examining the role of the complement system in skin. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive literature search utilizing various academic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Employing keywords such as "complement system," "inflammation," "facial pores," "enlarged," and "mechanisms," we compiled a selection of relevant studies. These studies provided a comprehensive understanding of the intricate mechanisms underlying the relationship between the "complement system" and "inflammation" within the context of facial pore enlargement. RESULTS Our findings suggest that inflammaging mediated by complement activation may be a critical player in the formation of enlarged facial pores. Specifically, overactivation of the complement system leading to the accumulation of complement fragments could be a major contributor to this process. Notably, the complement system in skin may be involved in a range of skin issues, including aging. CONCLUSION Modulating the complement system presents a promising avenue for future research in improving skin health. Further basic and clinical research is necessary to validate these findings, but we hope that this study can serve as a theoretical foundation for the development of targeted cosmetics.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to investigate the reproducibility and accuracy of the Visia® Complexion Analysis Camera System by Canfield Scientific for objective skin analysis. Methods Nineteen participants underwent facial capture with the Visia® camera following a standardised protocol. During the first session, the participants sat down and positioned their faces in a capture rig, closed their eyes and had their faces captured from the left, front and right sides, with threefold repetition of the captures from the front side. After 4 weeks, the participants underwent recapture in a similar manner. Based on the frontal views, data for two measurement methods of the Visia® camera system, the absolute scores and the percentiles, were obtained with regard to the skin criterion wrinkles via automated software calculation. Means and standard deviations were evaluated. Based on the side views, the data for the Truskin Ages® were calculated by the Visia® camera system and compared with the calendrical ages, which served as the gold standard for comparison. Results In the assessment of the reproducibility of the data of the capture system the standard deviation from the frontal captures among all participants was about 3% when the absolute scores of the wrinkles were compared with each other; specifically, the average deviation was 3.36% during the first capture session and 3.4% during the second capture session. Meanwhile, the standard deviation of the measurements was about 9% when the percentiles were compared; specifically, the average deviation was 8.2% during the first capture session and 10.7% during the second capture session. In the assessment of the accuracy the correlation between the calendrical age and the calculated Truskin Age® for both facial sides was very high at a correlation coefficient rho value of >0.8 (right side: r=0.896; left side: r=0.827) and statistically significant at a p-value of <0.001. The average calendrical age and Truskin Age® deviated only slightly from each other and did not differ significantly (right side: p=0.174; left side: p=0.190). The Truskin Age® was slightly higher than the calendrical age by a mean value of 1.37 years for both facial sides. The analysis of the absolute differences revealed that in 50% of the cases, there was a maximum difference of 3 years, and in 75% of the cases, there were maximum differences of 4.5 years for the right side and 5.5 years for the left side. Conclusion The assessment of the reproducibility and accuracy of the objective measurement method, the Visia® camera system, contributed to the validation of the system. The evaluation of the reproducibility revealed a satisfactory precision of the repeated captures when investigating facial wrinkles. Absolute scores should be preferred over percentiles owing to their better precision. The calculation of the accuracy of the Truskin Age® data from the Visia® camera system revealed only a slight deviation from the true calendrical ages. The correlation between both data groups was highly significant.

Abstract
Objective Objective analysis of the effects of a series of skin care products by application of modern imaging technology. Method A study was conducted in 25 volunteers who attended a plastic surgical clinic. The cosmeceuticals chosen for investigation were from the IMAGE MD® series provided by the company IMAGE Skincare. Facial images were taken with the Visia® camera system by the company Canfield Scientific. The volunteers stopped their own skin care regimen after the initial facial captures and applied a series of the products for three months. 19 volunteers returned and underwent again facial capture. Eight different skin aspects - spots, wrinkles, skin texture, pores, UV spots, brown spots, red marks and porphyrins - as well as the skin age were determined and analysed. Results Overall, the volunteers turned out to appear younger by 1.4 years, however not at a significant level. There was a spread in the results and a tendency for a stronger reduction of the measured skin age in women under 55 years old by 3.2 years. Best effects of the studied product line were obtained for the skin aspects red areas and brown spots. For the criteria spots, texture, pores and UV spots at least two thirds of the comparisons between the two time points, before and after treatment, were positive. In wrinkles and porphyrins, results did not improve. Altogether the majority of the examined skin criteria improved. Conclusion The IMAGE MD® product series caused the volunteer testers overall to appear slightly younger. An objective measurement of skin changes over time by application of the Visia® imaging technology was found to be possible.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to independently investigate the precision of the high resolution Visia® camera, from Canfield Scientific, to capture several skin surface features. Method Facial images of eight volunteers were taken with closed eyes and a relaxed face. The capture was conducted in a resting position within a positioning rig. Frontal view images were taken. In the first capture session, the images were captured three times in a row with the head steadily resting in the capture rig. Each volunteer then left the capture rig and returned to it one week later repositioning the face, and the capture was repeated three times. On the basis of this study, it was additionally investigated which number of study participants would be required in order to make a claim as to the reproducibility of the captures. As a possible approach to making this determination, a power analysis was considered. In order to conduct this analysis, it was necessary to determine which differences between individual image captures would be clinically acceptable. To answer this question, a subjective assessment of the repeated image captures for all study participants and for all skin surface features was conducted in order to identify any differences that were visible with the human eye. Results Differences in skin criteria of the eight volunteers in terms of means and standard deviations were collected for weeks one and two. For the criteria skin texture, UV spots, brown spots and porphyrins, these differences were less than 2% and for pores and red areas they were between 2% and 4%. The results for spots and wrinkles were around 6%. Looking at the differences between the data from week one and two as well as the standard deviations, these differences turned out to be relatively small. This finding also pointed to a quite good precision of the measurement technique. The subjective assessment of the images of the eight participants on each of the eight skin criteria revealed that no differences were detectable in the recaptured versions of the images of the participants' faces in their native digital forms solely with the human eye. There was an exception for only one participant, in whom a distinction between two image captures appeared to be subjectively visible with the human eye, but only for the criterion of red areas. As the subjective assessment revealed that no clinically relevant differences could be identified, a power analysis involving a test for significant differences between the recaptured images was discarded. As a consequence, the number of participants recruited for the study on the reproducibility of the system presented herein was deemed to be sufficient. Conclusion The precision of the Visia® camera system was found to be satisfactory in this study. The Visia® camera helped to visualise skin features beyond what is visible to the human eye. Thus, the Visia® camera system provides new objective information on skin surface characteristics beyond what can be acquired through purely subjective assessments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a facial chronic inflammatory skin disease with almost 5.5% prevalence. Although there are various scales of rosacea, they are objective and discordant among different dermatologists. Noninvasive objective measurements such as VISIA system might play essential roles in the diagnosis and evaluation of rosacea. Here, we intended to reveal the effectiveness of VISIA system in rosacea. MATERIALS AND METHODS A number of 563 participants diagnosed with facial rosacea were enrolled in study. They all received both full-face image-shoot by VISIA system with quantitative analysis software and physician's assessment via five different scales, including investigator global assessment (IGA), clinician erythema assessment (CEA), numerical score, the National Rosacea Society (NRS) grading system and telangiectasis. RESULTS Absolute score and percentile of red area had significant correlations with IGA and CEA, whereas red area had no significant correlation with numerical score, NRS and telangiectasis. Red area in erythematotelangiectatic rosacea patients demonstrated the highest correlation with IGA and CEA, especially in those aged between 51 and 60. Besides red area, pigmentation parameters in VISIA system (brown spot) also showed significant correlation with IGA and CEA. CONCLUSION VISIA system might be an effective measurement in the assessment of rosacea severity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Enlarged facial pores are a common cosmetic complaint in practice. Microfocused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) and low-degree crosslinked hyaluronic acid filler (L-HA) injection has recently become a popular procedure for skin rejuvenation. The effectiveness of the combined MFU-V and L-HA injection in the treatment of enlarged pores has not been evaluated. OBJECTIVES To compare the efficacy of MFU-V monotherapy (single technique) and MFU-V combined with L-HA injection (combined technique) for the treatment of enlarged facial pores in Asians. METHODS We conducted a randomized, single-blinded, split-face study on participants with enlarged facial pores. Each side of the face was randomly assigned to treatment with one session of single technique or combined technique. Pore volume was objectively measured by an Antera 3D® system. Subjective assessment was evaluated by one-blinded physician using a pore grading score (0-4). Patients rated the improvement in terms of satisfaction using the visual analog scale (VAS, 0-10). RESULTS Forty-six participants completed the study. The mean pore volume of both sides declined with statistical significance at every visit compared to baseline, with the lowest mean at 4 months post-treatment. The combined technique showed a lower mean pore volume than single technique throughout the follow-ups. Physician's subjective evaluation showed no statistically significant difference between the two techniques. The patient satisfaction score showed a similar trend to the mean pore volume, with a statistically significant difference at 4 and 6 months post-treatment. CONCLUSIONS Both techniques are effectively minimize enlarged facial pores. The combined technique resulted in more patient satisfaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Managing acne scars is a challenge and therapies are divided into nonsurgical and surgical. Highly Purified Technology Polynucleotides (PN-HPT) is a compound that contains a mixture of DNA polymers of different lengths. Numerous studies have shown that PN-HPT also serves as an energy source, thus influencing cellular growth and cell vitality. OBJECTIVES The authors aimed to assess the improvement in dermal quality and acne scars after PN-HPT vs placebo according to Antera 3D and the patient responses to the patient satisfaction questionnaire after a comparison of pretreatment and posttreatment photographs at 1 and 3 months. METHODS Included were women aged 30 to 50 years with grade 3 to 4 moderate-to-severe atrophic scars according to the Goodman classification; nonsmokers; and had not had active acne during the past 5 years. Ten patients (PN-HPT group) were treated with 4.0 mL of PN-HPT, and 10 patients (control) were treated with 4.0 mL of normal saline. All medical treatments were performed in a double-blinded manner; neither the injection doctor nor the patient knew if the PN-HPT or the placebo was being administered. RESULTS Twenty women who fit the inclusion criteria were enrolled in this study. Only patients in the PN-HPT group improved significantly at 1 and 3 months after treatment compared with baseline. CONCLUSIONS This prospective and randomized study showed that PN-HPT in monotherapy was safe and effective treatment for atrophic scar acne compared with placebo. Prospective and randomized studies will be necessary to investigate the clinical effectiveness in a larger cohort of patients and for a longer follow-up. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 2

Abstract
Young women often complain about the daily fluctuation of their facial skin conditions. However, no objective study has been carried out on such changes. This study is aimed at quantitatively elucidating daily skin fluctuation and evaluating the efficacy of cosmetic skin care treatment. We developed the first portable and self-guided facial skin imaging device (eMR Pro) to reproducibly capture facial images at home. Two 8 week clinical studies were then conducted to analyze daily skin fluctuation of facial pore areas, roughness and redness in young Japanese women (n = 47 in study 1 and n = 57 in study 2) by collecting facial images three times a day, during the morning after wake-up, during the morning after face wash, and during the evening after face wash. After a 4 week baseline measurement period (week -4 to week -1), all subjects applied Galactomyces ferment filtrate (GFF, Pitera®) skin care formula twice a day for 4 weeks (week 1 to week 4). These three skin conditions did exhibit different fluctuation patterns. The pore area and roughness showed the “morning after wake-up”-largest fluctuation pattern, whereas redness showed the “evening after face wash”-largest fluctuation pattern. GFF treatment significantly reduced the net values and delta fluctuation of pore area, roughness, and redness, which were consistently observed in two studies. In conclusion, the daily fluctuation of facial skin conditions is potentially a new target field for investigating healthy skin maintenance.

Abstract
Objectives Effects of low energy, single‐pass helium plasma dermal resurfacing (PDR) treatment on brown spots, enlarged pores, and wrinkles—preliminary findings. Methods Twenty two subjects (64.6 ± 6.6 years) with Fitzpatrick Wrinkle and Elastosis Scale score (FWS) of ≤2 and seeking improvement of facial appearance were included in this subanalysis. All subjects received a single, one‐pass, full face, and low power helium PDR treatment. Standard digital images were collected using the VISIA‐CR (Canfield Scientific Inc.) at baseline and 3 months after treatment with images assessed for improvement in FWS and for improvements in brown spots, enlarged pores, and wrinkles by proprietary automated image processing algorithms. Results Nearly all subjects demonstrated ≥1‐point improvement in FWS and also reported improvement per modified Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale query. The numbers of brown spots and enlarged pores decreased by 45.1% and 28.3%, respectively. Stratification of brown spots data by presence or absence of post‐inflammatory hyperpigmentation revealed paradoxically conflicting data. The improvement detected in wrinkle area and mean wrinkle thickness was less pronounced with overall reductions of 13.4% and 4.8%, respectively. 37 Non‐serious adverse events (AEs) in 22 subjects were reported with most resolving within 14 days or less, and no serious AEs were observed. Conclusions While longer‐term follow‐up is needed, these early study results show that one single‐pass, low energy helium PDR treatment improves facial skin appearance both qualitatively and quantitatively. Studies evaluating higher energy levels and multiple treatment passes are ongoing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A new topical formulation (TF) based on 3 main lifting components has been developed to reduce superficial facial wrinkles. OBJECTIVES Determine the effectiveness of this new TF in reducing superficial face wrinkles and restructuring the dermal matrix. METHODS Women, aged 30-65 y.o. with moderate to severe crow's feet wrinkles were included. EXCLUSION CRITERIA men; younger than 30 or older than 65 years old; smokers. Patients received 15 IU of botulinum toxin on crow's feet and 2 creams. Fifty patients (Group 1) applied the TP (Product A) and 50 (Group 2) a placebo (Product B). Assessments were made by digital macro-photography's, Antera 3D, and a patient satisfaction questionnaire. RESULTS From April to June 2019, 100 women were enrolled in the study and were divided into two homogeneous groups. No major or minor side effects were reported. In group 1, wrinkles, texture, static and dynamic crow's feet wrinkles improved significantly at 3 and 6 months. Patients were very satisfied at 3 months and satisfied at 6 months. In group 2, wrinkles and texture improved significantly at 3 months but did not improve at 6 months. Static and dynamic crow's feet wrinkles improved significantly at 1 and 3 months but did not improve significantly at 6 months. CONCLUSIONS Our prospective and randomized study has shown that the new TF is safe and effective in reducing superficial face wrinkles and producing dermal regeneration. It, therefore, prolongs the duration of the botulinum toxin. Further controlled study would be necessary to compare the new TF to neurotoxin treatment, or its action alone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have shown that transcutaneous microfocused ultrasound with visualization is beneficial for noninvasive skin tightening, collagen regeneration, and lower face contour improvement. OBJECTIVES The primary study endpoint was the improvement of the laxity and ptosis face skin; the secondary endpoint was the improvement of wrinkles, texture, and hemoglobin content; and the third endpoint was the patient's responses to a patient satisfaction questionnaire. METHODS Patients with soft to moderate skin laxity and ptosis of the face and neck were enrolled and their sex, ethnicity, age, Fitzpatrick skin type, and smoking habit recorded. Patient assessment was made by digital macro-photographs, Vectra H2, and Antera 3D, and strict exclusion criteria were set up. RESULTS From November 2017 to November 2018, 47 women and 3 men with a mean age of 52.8 ± 7.43 years and Araco's Ptosis Scale System 2.7 ± 0.46, which fit the inclusion criteria, were enrolled in the study. All patients signed a consent form and received 1200 spot-lines (400 lines from each transducer) of microfocused ultrasound with visualization. No major side effects were reported during the study and all patients completed the follow-up after 6 months. Wrinkles, texture, Surgeon Assessment Scoring System scores, and patient satisfaction questionnaire scores improved significantly. Patients found the treatment tolerable according to the patient pain scale rate. No statistically significative differences were found among homogenous groups of smokers and nonsmokers. CONCLUSIONS The study proves that microfocused ultrasound with visualization in a single session of treatment in monotherapy is safe and effective for the treatment of face laxity and ptosis when a proper number of energy spot-lines is delivered in the correct tissue layer. Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne scars are the most common sequelae of the severe inflammatory process of acne, and its managing is a challenge. Objective of this study was to assess safety and effectiveness of calcium hydroxylapatite monotherapy and its association with high-intensity microfocused ultrasound for treating moderate-to-severe atrophic acne scars. METHODS Women with moderate-to-severe atrophic scars of the face were enrolled on the study. Assessments were made by digital macrophotographs, Vectra H2, and Antera 3D. RESULTS From October to December 2019, twenty women which fitted the inclusion criteria signed a consent form and received 3.0 mL of calcium hydroxylapatite and after 4 weeks, 400 lines of HIFU. No major side effects were reported during the study, and all patients completed the follow-up after 6 months. At 1 month, patients treated with calcium hydroxylapatite (group 1) improved wrinkles and skin texture compared to placebo (group 2). At 3 and 6 months, all patients improved acne scars. CONCLUSION Our study showed that that both calcium hydroxylapatite and HIFU in monotherapy were safe and effective treatments for atrophic scar acne. Calcium hydroxylapatite was clinically effective when compared with placebo, though the combination of calcium hydroxylapatite and HIFU did not enhance the clinical efficacy compared to monotherapy.
