Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to analyze the 100 most cited articles (T100) on Cubital Tunnel Syndrome (CuTS). Methods T100 articles were identified using the Web of Science database with the keyword cubital tunnel syndrome on January 10, 2024. Bibliometric analysis included information such as article title, total number of citations, number of authors, author names, country of publication, year of publication, type of publication, subject covered, journal publishing, h-index of publishing journals, Q classification, and impact factor. Results The number of citations for T100 articles ranged between 28 and 183. Journal of Hand Surgery - American Volume (n = 28) was the journal with the highest number of T100 articles. In the comparison between countries, the United States of America (n = 55) was represented by the highest number of articles. The evaluation of the main topics covered in the articles showed that surgical treatment (n = 64) was the main topic in the majority of T100 articles. Conclusion The results of this study provide insight into the scientific community's interest in CuTS. This study can be a guide for further research and potential solutions for CuTS.

Abstract
Introduction This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the 100 most-cited articles to examine research trends, hot topics, and gaps in aerobic fitness research in children and adolescents, addressing the lack of evidence synthesis. Methods The Web of Science Core Collection database was used for literature search, and bibliometric characteristics of the included research articles were imported and calculated. Descriptive statistics and visualizations by the VOS viewer were used for the presentation of bibliometric characteristics. Results The 100 most cited articles received an average of 104 citations. British Journal of Sports Medicine and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise were the two top journals that published aerobic fitness research in children and adolescents. The United States was the top country that contributed to the most-cited research articles. Three top research topics were identified from the analysis, such as neuroscience, developmental psychology, and aerobic health. Conclusion Aerobic fitness research in children and adolescents has received much attention and interest since 2000. The most contributing authors in this research field were from developed countries, such as the United States, and cognition and health-related research were priorities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, acute lung injury (ALI) and ARDS have emerged as critical health concerns, drawing considerable attention from clinicians. The volume of published articles on ALI/ARDS is on the rise, indicating the expanding research interest in this field. However, the precise quantity and quality of studies on ALI/ARDS remain unclear. Consequently, we employed bibliometric and visual techniques to comprehensively analyze the patterns and focal points of these articles. METHODS To investigate the characteristics of highly referenced papers on ALI/ARDS and offer insights into the progress and advancements in research on ALI/ARDS, we conducted a comprehensive search in the core Web of Science database for cited articles using the terms "ALI," "acute lung injury," "ARDS," or "acute respiratory distress syndrome." A total of 60,282 citations were retrieved by narrowing the scope to reviews, articles, and publications in English. From the obtained citations, we selected materials for analysis from the top 100 articles with the highest number of citations. Subsequently, the articles were visualized and analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and bibliometric techniques. This analysis focused on identifying trends related to authors, journals, countries, institutions, collaborative networks, key words, and other relevant factors in the field of ALI/ARDS research. RESULTS Among the top 100 cited articles, the highest and lowest number of citations were 6,957 and 451, respectively. The 100 articles were published between 1991-2020, with a peak in publications observed in 2004, 2005, and 2012 (no. = 7). Among 29 journals, The New England Journal of Medicine (no. = 21) had the highest number of publications, followed by the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (no. = 14). Among the 29 countries represented in the top 100 cited articles, the United States (no. = 51) emerged as the leading country in the number of publications, followed by Canada (no. = 19) (there was some overlap in paper output between countries due to co-publication). The 3 predominant keywords identified in studies within the ALI/ARDS domain were ALI, mechanical ventilation, and PEEP. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a historical perspective on the scientific advancements in ALI/ARDS research, highlighting the need for further investigation and development in specific areas within the field. Bibliometric analyses revealed that the United States is the predominant force in the field of ALI/ARDS, contributing significantly to its development. Through an examination of highly cited papers on ALI/ARDS, we have identified global research trends, assessed the quality of studies, and identified hot topics in the field of ALI/ARDS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chondrosarcoma (CHS) is highly prone to recurrence and has become the most common malignant bone tumor in adults. The authors aim to identify and analyze the top 100 most-cited articles in this field, enabling researchers to quickly grasp the research focus and progress in the area of chondrosarcoma recurrence. METHODS A search in the Web of Science database yielded a total of 305 articles related to CHS recurrence between 2013 and 2022. Filtering was done based on the titles and abstracts of the articles in the list, and the top 100 most-cited articles were selected. The following information were analyzed using bibliometric methods: article title, first author, year of publication, journal of publication, total citations, country, institution, and keywords. RESULTS Among the selected 100 articles, the most frequently cited one has 224 citations. The most commonly appearing journals, institutions, and countries are as follows: "Clinical Orthopaedics Related Research" (5 times); Fudan University, University of Texas System, and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (4 times each), with China and the USA cited the most (21 times each). The year 2018 is the most productive year (17 articles). About 97 first authors contributed one article each, and 3 had 2 articles each. Among all 229 keywords, the top 3 in frequency are CHS (20%), recurrence (4%), and surgery (3%). Twenty article topics are related to surgical treatment. CONCLUSION Research on CHS recurrence is citation-rich but focuses more on treatments than understanding mechanisms, indicating a need for deeper mechanistic exploration for treatment breakthroughs in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common global condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. Biomarkers can aid in the diagnosis, prediction, intervention, and outcome assessment of AKI. This study aimed to summarize the current research status and identify research hotspots for AKI biomarkers using bibliometric analysis. METHODS Relevant original English language articles were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection database, from inception to 31 December 2022. Full records and related cited references from all the documents were collected and analyzed. RESULTS A total of 16368 authors from 3379 institutions in 83 countries/regions contributed to 2916 documents that were published in 712 academic journals. Annual publication output followed exponential growth since 2008. The United States, the University of Pittsburgh, and the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology were the most productive countries, institutions, and journals in terms of research outputs, respectively. The area of interest has shifted from neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, cell cycle, and tubular damage toward sepsis and COVID-19. Apoptosis, inflammation, and chronic kidney disease have become popular in recent years, and studies on ferroptosis, machine learning, COVID-19, and renal fibrosis will be the focus of future research. IMPLICATIONS This bibliometric study suggests that future research on AKI biomarkers would focus on ferroptosis, renal fibrosis and COVID-19. Artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, maybe the most promising direction for the discovery and validation of AKI biomarkers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES No citation analysis has examined peer-reviewed sedentary behaviour research articles, which is needed to assess the impact of this research and identify knowledge gaps. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the 100 most cited sedentary behaviour articles and examine their bibliometric characteristics. METHODS All databases indexed in the Web of Science database were searched in October 2022, and bibliometric characteristics of the studies, irrespective of the publication year, were imported and calculated. Descriptive statistics and visualisations by the VOSviewer were used for the presentation of bibliometric characteristics. RESULTS The 100 most cited articles received 49,062 citations in total, with a median citation density of 32.5 citations per article per year. The majority of included articles were reviews (n = 48; 22,856 citations), focused on adults (58%; 26,809 citations) and reported on the relationship of sedentary behaviour with health (n = 64; 34,598 citations); more specifically they focused on anthropometric indices (28%), metabolic health (24%), and mortality (23%). The United States was ranked first in terms of the overall for most cited articles. However, Australia was ranked first for institutions and authors contributing to the most cited sedentary behaviour articles. CONCLUSIONS Papers published after 2007 were predominant in the list of 100 most cited sedentary behaviour papers, as were those focusing on associations with physical health outcomes and those focusing on adults. While original articles were cited more, discussion papers had more impact on the field as they received more citations in less time. Research examining associations between sedentary behaviour and health was cited more. The field is dominated by contributions from high-income countries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is considered the most prevalent inherited bleeding disorder. The current study aims to demonstrate the research status and trends on VWD worldwide. METHODS Bibliometric analysis was used to investigate the global research productivity and trends on VWD. The publications on VWD from 1956 to 2021 were extracted using the Web of Science database. In the VWD domain, a total of 3,643 records were analyzed for authorship and collaboration patterns, yearly productivity, highly cited documents, relevant source of publication, most prolific scholars, productive countries, and organizations. RESULTS The most productive journal, author, organization, and country were 'Haemophilia' with 439 publications, 'Favaloro EJ' with 119 publications, the 'University of Milan' with 192 publications, and the United States of America (USA) with 1,048 publications, respectively. The document with the highest citations was 'Srivastava A, 2013, Haemophilia,' which received 1,154 citations in total. In 2016, the highest number of publications shared by two author patterns was 28. With 199 publications, the year 2021 remained on the top, while the citation-wise analysis identified 2006 as the top year with 5,379 citations. CONCLUSIONS Research productivity and publication trends on VWD revealed that the USA emerged as the most significant contributing country. The 'University of Milan' was the most significant contributing organization, while 'Favaloro EJ' was the most significant author. 'Hemophilia' was found to be the most significant journal in the field of VWD. It is recommended that researchers from countries with significant contributions to the field should collaborate with researchers from Asian countries and other countries that lack behind in research in the domain of VWD.(www.actabiomedica.it).

Top 50 cited articles on cardiac rehabilitation: A bibliometric and altmetric analysis study. JOURNAL OF SURGERY AND MEDICINE 2023. Abstract
Background/Aim: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally, with an estimated 18.6 million deaths each year. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has positive effects on reducing the mortality and morbidity of CVD, so there is a growing interest in this field. The aim of this study was to analyze the top 50 cited articles in the field of CR.
Methods: The Web of Science (WoS) database was searched for articles published between 1986 and 2021. A record was made of the following information for the bibliometric analysis: article title, year of publication, number of authors and their names, number of citations, citation index, journal of publication, impact factor, type of article, and source of funding. The altmetric attention score (AAS) was recorded using automatic software calculation.
Results: The majority of articles were published in the journal “Circulation” (n=14) and the “Journal of the American College of Cardiology” (n=8). The country with the highest number of articles was the US (n=27), and the most cited author was P.A. Ades. Studies evaluating exercise-based rehabilitation, key components of CR, and secondary prevention were among the top cited articles. In terms of AAS, in addition to the titles mentioned, mobile health services that rely on communication technologies have also received attention.
Conclusion: This study provides useful information for researchers interested in CR, including trends, topics of interest in the field, and potential research collaborations. It is intended to guide future, more comprehensive, and in-depth studies on CR.

Abstract
Aim: This study identifies the most cited papers on spontaneous coronary artery dissection and evaluates their focus and the characteristics of the current literature. Methods: The Web of Science database was queried for publications between 1971 and 2021. The articles were ranked from the most to the least citations, and each was reviewed by two authors. Results: The total citations ranged from 44 to 457, with a median (interquartile range) citation of 78.5 (60-140). Females were 28% of the first authors, about half the papers (52/100) were published in the last decade, most were observational studies (78/100) and the rest were nonoriginal studies. The impact factor of the journal weakly correlated with the number of citations (r [98] = 0.24; p = 0.018). Conclusion: Efforts are needed to encourage female authorship and increase the quality of articles in this subject area.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Bibliometric analysis. OBJECTIVE With the increasing literature of spine surgery, some pioneering research studies have had a significant impact on the field of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). The objective of the authors was to identify and analyze the most frequently cited 100 articles in this field. METHODS Web of Science was searched to identify 100 top-cited articles related to LSS from 2000 to 2019. Articles on the final list were filtered based on their titles and abstracts. The following information were recorded and analyzed with bibliometric method: article title, first author, year of publication, journal of publication, total number of citations, country, institution, and study topic. RESULTS The citation count for final articles on the list ranged from 71 to 2162, with a mean number of 207.7. The journal Spine contributed the maximum number of articles (37), followed by European Spine Journal (9) and Pain Physician (8). There were collectively 80 first authors contributing to articles on the final list. Twelve authors were represented multiple times in the top 100 articles. The most prolific years were 2008 and 2009, each had 11 articles published. With regard to country and region of origin, most articles were from the United States (58). The most cited article was published in Spine in 2000 by Fairbank and Pynsent, who discussed the role of the Oswestry Disability Index as an evaluation standard in spinal disorders, including LSS. CONCLUSION The current study analyzed the 100 most cited articles on LSS. It no doubt developed a useful resource with detailed information for many, particularly orthopedic and neurosurgery physicians who want to assimilate research focus and advance of LSS within a relatively short period. Researchers may benefit from emphasis on citation count while citing and evaluating articles and realize the deficiencies when high-level articles appear.

Abstract
Este artículo tuvo como objetivo realizar un análisis bibliométrico en el periodo 2015 - 2019, de la producción científica en psicología colombiana indexada en Scopus. Los datos de los países latinoamericanos se recolectaron a través Scimago Journal & Country Rank. Las principales variables analizadas fueron el número total de documentos y de citaciones y el porcentaje de colaboración internacional; también se tuvo en cuenta los datos pertenecientes a las revistas colombianas en el área de psicología indexada en Scopus. Se encontró que Colombia presenta el mayor porcentaje de crecimiento en producción científica durante el periodo analizado, sin embargo, su contribución total de producción en la región es muy inferior a países como Brasil, México y Chile. Igualmente, se evidenció que Colombia es el segundo país latinoamericano que cuenta con mayor número de revistas de psicología en Scopus, diez (10), no obstante, se sitúa como el cuarto país en número de documentos.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Because the number of published literatures with a focus on Barrett's esophagus (BE) that researchers must be familiar with has quickly increased in recent years, the significance of selective searching and summarization of bibliometrics is also increasing. It is, thus, very important to find a method that can quickly and effectively search the most influential medical science articles. Therefore, the objective of this study was to use bibliometric analysis to assess and characterize the most influential articles involving BE research. METHODS Publications on BE research were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using the term "Barrett's esophagus." Microsoft Excel 2016 and VOSviewer were used to further analyzed each article's citation number, title, journal, country, organization, category, and authorship. RESULTS On 14 June 2020, 5,389 records of BE research published until 2020 were retrieved. The citation number of the top 100 most-cited articles ranged from 208 to 824. Gastroenterology published 29 articles, which accounted for the largest number of top 100 articles (29%); however, among the top 500 most-cited articles, the American Journal of Gastroenterology published the largest number. Of the top-cited articles, the USA was by far the leading country in BE research and contributed most of the articles (n = 72). Among the academic institutions that produced the top 100 most-cited articles, the University of Washington (n = 12) was dominant. Sharma Prateek (n = 6) authored the largest number of most-cited articles. The USA contributed the most articles per year, and the time trend of the number of top 500 articles increased by 38-fold between 1987 and 2000. "Adenocarcinoma," "high-grade dysplasia," "cancer," "diagnosis," and "dysplasia" were the most influential keywords. CONCLUSIONS This study not only presents a historical perspective but also facilitated the recognition of the significant advances in this area by researchers. Furthermore, the current study serves as a guide in decision clinical practice decision-making and provides a valuable reference for further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bone metastasis (BM) has become an important health problem. In recent years, studies on BM are growing rapidly, but there were no bibliometric studies regarding BM. This study aimed to illustrate the overall knowledge structure and development trends of BM. METHODS Research datasets were acquired from the Web of Science database. The time span was defined as "1980-2020". VOS viewer and Citespace software was provided to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trends of publications, distribution, H-index status, co-authorship status, and research hotspots were analyzed. RESULTS Six hundred eighty-two publications met the requirement. USA published most papers (264, 38.7%), and both total citations (13,997) and H-index (57) of USA ranked first. The most productive institution on BM is Amgen Inc. (43). Supportive Care in Cancer (24) published the most papers on BM. "Safety", "skeletal related event", "open label", "management", "health", and "prognosis" are the research hotspots in the recent years. CONCLUSION In this study, we conduct a systematic and comprehensive analysis on the research in BM field. The publication number was rising in recent years stably. USA contributed mostly not only in quality, but also in quantity. Amgen Inc. published the largest number of articles, Supportive Care in Cancer was the most productive journal related to BM. "Safety", "skeletal related event", "open label", "management", "health", and "prognosis" are the research hotspots in recent years. We believe this study can not only show the global research overview in past 40 years but also point the research trend of BM in the future.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Bibliometric and visualization analysis. OBJECTIVE Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) has become a common health problem and the most frequent indication for spinal surgery. This study aimed to illustrate the overall knowledge structure, and development trends of LSS, using a bibliometric analysis and newly developed visualization tools. MATERIALS AND METHODS Research data sets were acquired from the Web of Science. The time span was defined as "2000-2019". VOS viewer and Citespace software was provided to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trend of publications, distribution, H-index status, co-authorship status and research hotspots were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 1934 publications met the requirement. The United States published most papers (521, 26.9%), both total citations (17,626) and H-index (61) ranked first of all the countries. The most productive organizations on LSS is Seoul National University (50). Spine (43) published the most papers on LSS. Quality of life, risk factor, disability, double blind trials, and decompression surgery are the research hotspots in the recent years. CONCLUSION The number of publications showed an upward trend with a stable rise in recent years. The United States is a country with the highest productivity, not only in quality, but also in quantity. Seoul National University has been the largest contributor in this field. Spine is the best journal related to LSS. Quality of life, risk factor, disability, and decompression surgery are the research hotspots in the recent years. Indeed, this study provides a new insight to the growth and development of LSS. Moreover, it will contribute to the growth of the international frontier of LSS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nine years have passed since the Journal of Bone Metabolism (JBM) was launched as an English journal in 2012; it was finally included in Scopus in January 2019. Therefore, this study aimed to provide evidence of increased international recognition based on journal metrics and reflect on its efforts to be recognized as a top-notch journal. METHODS Databases, such as the Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, Korean Citation Index (KCI), and citation indicators, including the impact factor (IF) and SCImago journal rank (SJR) were reviewed and calculated according to years, and the results were drawn. Furthermore, country-wise contributions and top-cited articles were also investigated. RESULTS The JBM 2020 IF was 2.17 in the WoS. The 2020 SJR in Scopus was 0.334, with a ranking of 165/219 (75.3%) in the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism category. The 2020 KCI was 0.42. Of 263 articles, 260 were citable (98.9%), and of 176 original articles, 15 (8.5%) were supported by research grants. The total citation of JBM has increased from 16 in 2014 to 141 in 2020; however, its KCI remained stationary from 0.29 in 2015 to 0.42 in 2020. CONCLUSIONS Currently, JBM is increasingly cited by international researchers than Korean researchers, indicating that the journal's content is valued at an international level. Its inclusion in PubMed Central appears to have increased its international relevance; however, publishing English-only articles may hinder its use domestically. Therefore, efforts should be made to increase citation rates and enhance domestic readership.

This study aimed to illustrate the overall knowledge structure and development trends of CSM. METHODS Research data sets were acquired from the Web of Science database and the time span was defined as "2000 to 2019." VOS viewer and Citespace software was used to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trends of publications, distribution, H-index status, co-authorship status, and research hotspots were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 2367 publications met the requirement. The largest number of articles was from the United States, followed by Japan, China, Canada, and India. The highest H-index was found for articles from the United States. The highest number of articles was published in Spine. The cooperation between the countries, institutes, and authors were relatively weak. Cervical sagittal alignment, predictive factor, diffusion tensor imaging, and the natural history of CSM may become a frontier in this research field. CONCLUSION The number of publications showed an upward trend with a stable rise. Most of the publications are limited to a few countries and institutions with relatively weak interaction. The United States, Canada, Japan, China, and India have made significant contributions to the field of CSM. The United States is the country with the highest productivity, not only in quality but also in quantity. Cervical sagittal alignment, predictive factor, diffusion tensor imaging, and the natural history of CSM are the research hotspots in the recent years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, no citation analysis has been conducted in the physical activity field, which can contribute to assess the impact of this research field and identify knowledge gaps. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the 500 most cited physical activity publications and report their bibliometric characteristics. METHODS The Web of Science database (all database indexes) was searched, and bibliometric characteristics were imported and calculated. RESULTS A total of 520 publications were ranked as the top 500. The sum of the citations was 326,258, and the average citation density was 41.0 (45.1) citations per year. Original research articles constituted the major portion of included publications (53.7%; 170,774 citations). Papers reporting relationship of physical activity with health were the most prevalent type of publication included (43.7%; 141,027 citations). Journal impact factor had a weak but significant positive correlation with citation density (r = .12; P = .006). The United States was ranked first in terms of the contributions from institutions and authors contributing to the most cited physical activity papers. CONCLUSIONS Top physical activity publications are well cited compared with other health behavior fields. Original research reporting on the associations between physical activity and health has a higher citation impact compared with other types of original research within the physical activity field. The physical activity research field continues to expand rapidly as newer publications attract more citations in a shorter time span compared with older publications.

Abstract
Dimethyl fumarate is a cytoprotective and immunomodulatory drug used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. We performed a bibliometric study examining the characteristics and trends of the top 100 cited articles that include dimethyl fumarate in the title. On 21 September 2020 we carried out an electronic search in the Web of Science (WOS), seeking articles that include the following terms within the title: dimethyl fumarate, BG-12, or Tecfidera. To focus our investigation on original research, we refined the search to include only articles, early access, others, case report, and clinical trials. We obtained a total of 1115 items, which were cited 7169 times, had a citation density of 6.43 citations/item, and an h-index of 40. Around 2010, there was a jump in the number of published articles per year, rising from 5 articles/year up to 12 articles/year. We sorted all the items by the number of citations and selected the top 100 most cited (T100). The T100 had 4164 citations, with a density of 37 citations/year and contained 16 classic research articles. They were published between 1961 and 2018; the years 2010-2018 amassed nearly 80% of the T100. We noted 17 research areas with articles in the T100. Of these, the number one ranking went to neurosciences/neurology with 39 articles, and chemistry ranked second on the T100 list with 14 items. We noticed that the percentage of articles belonging to different journals changed depending on the time period. Chemistry held the highest number of papers during 1961-2000, while pharmacology andneurosciences/neurology led the 2001-2018 interval. A total of 478 authors from 145 institutions and 25 countries were included in the T100 ranking. The paper by Gold R et al. was the most successful with 14 articles, 1.823 citations and a density of 140.23 citations/year. The biotechnological company Biogen led the T100 list with 20 articles. With 59 published articles, the USA was the leading country in publications. We concluded that this study analyzed the use of and research on dimethyl fumarate from a different perspective, which will allow the readership (expert or not) to understand the relevance of classic and recent literature on this topic.

Abstract
Introduction: Bibliometric and altmetric analyses are used to identify landmark publications in their respective research field. We hypothesised that highly cited skin oncology articles correlate positively with the Oxford Evidence Based Medicine scoring level, altmetric score (AS) and rank within the top 100 manuscripts.Methods: Thomson Reuter's Web of Science citation indexing database was searched to identify all English-language skin oncology full-text articles in the last 75 years. The top 100 articles with the highest citation count were analysed by subject matter, publishing journal, author, year, institution, individual and five-year impact factor, AS and Oxford EBM level. Results: 180,132 articles were identified. The most cited article (Hodi et al.) demonstrated improved survival with ipilimumab in patients with metastatic melanoma (7894 citations). The article with the highest AS was Esteva et al. (AS = 576.7, 'dermatologist-level classification of skin cancer with deep neural networks'). No difference was found between evidence level and citation count (r = -0.1239, p = 0.2291), but a significant difference was seen for AS (r = -0.3024, p = 0.0028). AS scores increased over time, whereas bibliometrics did not. Conclusion: This work highlights the most influential work in the skin oncology field in the last 75 years. We have identified a differential relationship between commonly used metrics and evidence level in the field of skin oncology. As the digitalisation of research output and consumption increases, both bibliometric and altmetric analyses need to be considered when an article's impact is being assessed.

BACKGROUND To illustrate the research framework, overall knowledge structure, and development trends of Chinese medicine (CM) treatment for osteosarcoma (OS) by using a bibliometric analysis and newly developed visualization tools. METHODS Research datasets were acquired from the Web of Science (WOS) database from January 1, 1980 to September 30, 2019. VOS viewer and Citespace software was used to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trends of publications, distribution of institutes, distribution of journals, citation and H-index status, co-authorship status, research hotspots and co-citation status were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 223 publications in the WOS database met the requirement. The number of published articles showed a rise but the citation frequency and the H-index of China were relatively low. The cooperation between the countries, institutes and authors were relatively weak. Most publications were basic researches. Most of the previous researches focused on basic mechanisms of CM in treating OS, and therapy and improvement of dosage form may become a frontier in this research field. CONCLUSIONS Compared with other fields, the field of CM treatment for osteosarcome is still in infancy. The distribution of researches is imbalanced and cooperation between countries, institutions and authors remains to be strengthened. Furthermore, basic research occupies an absolute dominant position, and the exploration of the molecular mechanism of CM in preventing and treating OS may become a key point in the future.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Over the past few decades, the incidence of Rhabdomyolysis (RM) has significantly increased. The prognosis is substantially worse if renal failure develops. Many problems remain to be addressed regarding the pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of RM. The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize the top 100 most cited publications regarding rhabdomyolysis (RM) by performing a bibliometric analysis. METHODS Publications focusing on RM were identified from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Bibliographic information was collected, including year of publication, authorship, publishing journals, institution, country of origin and keywords. CiteSpace V5.6.R2 and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology were used for descriptive analysis. RESULTS The 100 most cited articles were published between 1995 and 2016, with citation numbers ranging from 116 to 904. The United States (60) has been the largest contributor to RM research. Hartford Hospital and University of Texas were found to be the most productive institutions, with five articles each. Thompson, PD, who authored six articles, was the most productive author. The American Journal of Cardiology published the most articles (5), followed by the New England Journal of Medicine (4). The top three co-cited journals were the New England Journal of Medicine (74), Lancet (59) and JAMA (54). CONCLUSIONS This study provides valuable information on the study of RM. These findings may be used to guide clinical decision-making and identify new research fields.

Abstract
Background Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an emerging therapy against Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Although the therapy has gained prominence, there has been no bibliometric analysis of FMT. Methods Studies published from 2004 to 2017 were extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded. Bibliometric analysis was used to evaluate the number or cooperation network of publications, countries, citations, references, journals, authors, institutions and keywords. Results A total of 796 items were included, showing an increasing trend annually. Publications mainly came from 10 countries, led by the US (n = 363). In the top 100 articles ranked by the number of citations (range 47–1,158), American Journal of Gastroenterology (2017 IF = 10.231) took the top spot. The co-citation network had 7 co-citation clusters headed by ‘recurrent Clostridium difficile infection’. The top 7 keywords with the strongest citation bursts had three parts, ‘microbiota’, ‘ diarrhea ’, and ‘case series’. All keywords were divided into four domains, ‘disease’, ‘nosogenesis’, ‘trial’, and ‘therapy’. Conclusions This study shows the research performance of FMT from 2004 to 2017 and helps investigators master the trend of FMT, which is also an ongoing hotspot of research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND After nearly 20 years of development, China has realized some achievements in helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS). The purpose of this article is to introduce and evaluate the development and characteristics of HEMS in China by collecting and analyzing relevant literature and, in so doing, help this vital service to further develop. METHOD We conducted a Pubmed, Medline, Embase, ScienceDirect, Wanfang, CNKI, and VIP search of the literature on HEMS of China published between January 1950 and April 2017. The title, author name, number of authors, publishing date, country or region of origin, institution, type of article, study topic, funding source, and level of evidence of each article were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS There were 41 papers included in the analysis. All articles were published in Chinese. The selected articles were published between 2002 and 2017. The 41 articles originated from China, but 7 different regions were represented: East China (n = 14), followed by North China (n = 12), Central China (n = 8), Southwest China (n = 3), South China (n = 2), and Northwest China (n = 2). The articles included 18 clinical studies, 12 reviews, and 11 clinical guidelines. Among these, 22 articles were from public hospitals; 18 were from military units and 1 came from a private hospital. One article from the public hospitals was funded by public foundations (4.5%); 11 articles from the army units received support from Army funding (61.1%). Compared with the public and private hospitals, articles from military units were more likely to receive financial support (χ = 15.7 P <.01). All the articles were assigned a level of evidence from 1 to 5. Level 5 (78.0%) was the most frequent level of evidence. There were 7 studies at level 4. Only 2 articles were assigned to level 3. There were no articles at levels 1 or 2. CONCLUSIONS China's HEMS is a relatively new service. Its level of development is low, interregional development is uneven, and cooperation has been insufficient. We need to strengthen capital investment and develop a unified guideline to further enhance the development of HEMS in China.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a worldwide health issue; although the prospects for most patients are favorable, many still do not respond to the current therapies. Numerous articles related to RA have been published in the past 3 decades; an analysis of the most cited articles in this field was undertaken to identify important articles regarding RA related to pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment. METHODS We searched the Web of Science and collected the general information of the top 100 cited articles. The citation number, publication year, authorship, impact factor (IF) of the journal in the publication year, country origins, article types, and funding source were evaluated. RESULTS The total citations of the top 100 articles varied from 11,922 to 556 and were published between 1985 and 2014. These articles were published in 24 journals, led by Arthritis and Rheumatism (n = 33), followed by the New England Journal of Medicine (n = 15). Most of the articles (n = 80) were produced by ≥5 authors. They were from 34 countries, and the United Stated contributed to most of the articles (n = 58), followed by the United Kingdom (n = 42). The article types were divided into clinical study (n = 55), review (n = 17), meta-analysis (n = 4), clinical guideline (n = 10), and basic science (n = 14). Eighty-seven percent of the articles were supported either by public organizations or medical companies. CONCLUSION This study provided insights into the development of publications and their citations of RA in the past 3 decades. Clinical studies or clinical guidelines published in high-impact journals were more likely to be cited in the field of RA. The latest publications may not be included in the top 100 cited articles, as the more recent studies have not had sufficient time to accumulate the number of citations.

Abstract
Background Researches on artificial livers greatly contribute to the clinical treatments for liver failure. This study aimed to evaluate the research output of artificial livers and citations from 2004 to 2017 through a bibliometric analysis. Methods A list of included articles on artificial livers were generated after a comprehensive search of the Web of Science Core Collection (from 2004 to 2017) with the following basic information: number of publications, citations, publication year, country of origin, authors and authorship, funding source, journals, institutions, keywords, and research area. Results A total of 968 included articles ranged from 47 citations to 394 citations with a fluctuation. The publications were distributed in 12 countries, led by China (n = 212) and the US (n = 207). There were strong correlations of the number of citations with authors (r 2 = 0.133, p < 0.001), and countries (r 2 = 0.275, p < 0.001), while no correlations of the number of citations with the years since publication (r 2 = 0.016, p = 0.216), and funding (r 2 < 0.001, p = 0.770) were identified. Keyword analysis demonstrated that with the specific change of "acute liver failure," decrease in "bioartificial livers" and "hepatocyte," and increase in "tissue engineering" were identified. The top 53 cited keyword and keyword plus (including some duplicates counts) were identified, led by bioartificial liver (405 citations) and hepatocyte (248 citations). The top 50 cited keywords bursts were mainly "Blood" (2004-2008), "hepatocyte like cell" (2008-2015), and "tissue engineering" (2014-2017). All keywords could be classified into four categories: bioartificial livers (57.40%), blood purification (25.00%), clinical (14.81%), and other artificial organs (2.78%). Discussion This study shows the process and tendency of artificial liver research with a comprehensive analysis on artificial livers. However, although it seems that the future of artificial livers seems brighter for hepatocyte transplantation, the systems of artificial livers now are inclined on focusing on blood purification, plasma exchange, etc.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The bibliometric analysis has been performed on several topics in critical care medicine (CCM) focusing on top 100 cited articles, but the analysis on CCM literature as a whole is missing. The present study aimed to perform a complete bibliometric analysis in the field of CCM. METHODS An electronic search of the Scopus database was performed on Feb 13, 2018. The search strategy involved core terms related to CCM. The top 2,000 most cited articles in the field of CCM were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics on these top-cited articles, country distributions, and journals are reported. Individual author's productivity was assessed with the Lotka's law. Co-occurrence of keywords was visualized with the Fruchterman-Reingold layout. The Walktrap algorithm was employed for clustering analysis. RESULTS A total of 2,000 documents were included in the analysis with median citations of 386 times [interquartile range (IQR): 308-562 times]. The most cited article was the original paper that described the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score. The included articles were published in 411 journals. The median number of documents published in one journal was 1, and the mean number was 4.9, indicating a skewed distribution. The maximum number of publications was 217 in CCM. Author's productivity profile was significantly different from the Lotka's law (P=0.001), with n and C values of 2.8 and 0.52, respectively. Fruchterman-Reingold network plot showed that studies involving human subject were the most common literature type. Sepsis was a major research topic that co-occurred with keywords such as disease severity, nonhuman, risk assessment and practice guideline. CONCLUSIONS The study performed bibliometric analyses of 2,000 top-cited articles in CCM. The most cited article was the one which developed the APACHE II score. Author's productivity was significantly different from the Lotka's law.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In this study, we bibliometrically evaluated the top 100 cited articles on urological emergencies published since 1975 with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective. MATERIAL AND METHODS We obtained the data for this study from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science and PubMed. We determined 360 articles which were related directly or indirectly to urological emergencies between 1975 and 2017 and analyzed retrospectively the top 100 cited articles among these. RESULTS The mean citation impact factor of the top 100 cited articles was 25.8±50.1 (range: 4-467) between 1991 and 2014. We determined that classical articles were cited for 2588 times and the total number of self-citations was 23 (0.8%). Highest publication rate per year was in 2006 (n=9). Among the institutions which published ≥2 articles per year University of Texas led the way with 5 articles. The top 100 articles came from 27 countries and 58% of these are from the USA (n=29), the United Kingdom (n=23) and Germany (n=6). For the top 3 journals of the 33 of top 100 articles most frequently cited were published in journals with an impact factor ≥2 namely, Journal of Urology (n=15), British Journal of Urology International (n=13) and Urology (n=5) respectively. The most frequently cited main topics were penile emergencies with 22 articles and acute scrotal problems with 15 articles. Most of the classical articles on urological emergencies were based on clinical researches (n=95) and also we found that the average level of evidence for the top 100 cited articles was 4.16 (range: 1-5). Mostly preferred publishing language was English among this scientific papers (n=90). CONCLUSION Although not considered as a completely unbiased and adequate criterion for scientific evaluations, analysis of the top 100 cited articles provides us with important current data on urological emergencies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With nearly 50 years' of development, Injury has become one of the leading journals in its specialty. The aim of this article is to identify, analyze the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles published by the journal to date. METHOD We searched the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection for citations of all articles published in Injury since its launch. For the Top 100 most frequently cited articles, title, author name, number of authors, publishing date, citation number, country of origin, institution, pages, number of reference, type of article, study topic, study design, funding source, and level of evidence of each clinical article were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS Only 50 self-citations were found in 12436 total citations of the top100 articles, fifty-four articles exceeded 100 citations. Total citations of the Top 100 articles ranged from 77 to 599. The Top 100 articles were published between 1973 and 2012, the mean authorship and institution number per paper was 3.92 and 1.84 respectively. The mean page number was 8.26 and the mean reference number was 45.2. England, Germany and Switzerland ranked the top three countries of origin. Among the T100 articles, there were 50 clinical studies, 5 basic researches, and 45 reviews. The most common study type was case series, and most common topics were bone reconstruction, trauma and bone fracture. The most common level of evidence was level Ⅳ. CONCLUSIONS This study may help researchers to find out the important information on the classic articles and provides useful insights for the authors who want to publish their research in Injury.

Abstract
AIMS To identify and characterize the top-cited articles in the field of islet transplantation. METHODS We used the Science Citation Index Expanded database to identify the most frequently cited articles published after 1900. Articles were evaluated using the following characteristics: citation number, publication year, study design, references, country and institution of origin, authorship, and journal. Keyword analysis and citation networks were used to analyze research trends. RESULTS The most frequently cited articles received between 146 and 2988 citations; the median was 291. All of the most frequently cited articles were published between 1972 and 2012, and 85 articles were published after 1990. The most popular study design involved basic science (75 articles). The leading countries were the United States (US) and Canada, and the leading institutions were the University of Alberta, Canada, and the University of Minnesota, in the US. Journals specializing in diabetes or transplantation published more than half of the articles (n = 53, 52%), with the journal Diabetes publishing the largest number (n = 30). No association was found between a journal's impact factor and the number of top-cited articles it published. There was no correlation between the number of citations and the number of years since publication, authors, participating institutions, or countries involved. Top-cited articles focused on 2 themes: the use of antirejection immunotherapy or biocompatible encapsulations to prolong graft survival, and assessments of the efficacy of islet transplants, in particular, islet allografts. CONCLUSIONS Our study can help researchers to identify and decipher the characteristics of top-cited articles in the field of islet transplantation. Just as clinically successful allografts are carried out using the Edmonton protocol, autografts and xenografts should be similarly strengthened to solve problems relating to immune rejection and islet sources, respectively.

Abstract
Lithium salts have been used to treat psychiatric disorders since the 1940s and are currently used in prophylaxis and treatment of depression and bipolar disorder. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess lithium toxicity-related publications using bibliometric approaches from a health point of view to assess global research trends in the lithium toxicity field to offer guidance to future research in this field. The data were retrieved from the online version of Scopus database on 6 August 2016. All records with the term 'lithium' in the title were retrieved, and those related to lithium toxicity were evaluated. There were a total of 1241 publications related to lithium toxicity published from 1913 to 2016. Articles (971 or 78.2%) were the most common type, followed by letters (179 or 14.4%) and reviews (61 or 4.9%). The annual publication of articles increased slightly after 1950 and the total number of publications related to lithium toxicity fluctuated with three peaks occurred in 1978, 1985 and 2014. The USA was the predominant country (25.38%), followed by the UK (7.82%), France (6.85%) and Canada (3.55%). Denmark had the highest productivity of publication after standardization by gross domestic product and population size. The average number of citations per article was 9.24, and the h-index for all publications in the field of lithium toxicity was 46. The highest h-index value was achieved by the USA (31) followed by the UK (21) and Canada (13). The Lancet was the highest ranked journal with 27 articles, followed by American Journal of Psychiatry with 23 articles. This study provides a bibliometric analysis on the global research trends in lithium toxicity studies during 1913-2015. There has been a progressive increase in the number of publications related to lithium toxicity published in the last decade, and most of the studies related to lithium toxicity arose from the USA and the UK.
