Research Trends, Hot Spots, and Prospects for Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Field of Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Artesunate alleviates intestinal ischemia/reperfusion induced acute lung injury via up-regulating AKT and HO-1 signal pathway in mice

Acute Lung injury (ALI) is a common complication following intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (II/R) injury that can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) a fatal illness for there is no specific therapy. The semisynthetic artemisinin Artesunate (Art) extracted from Artemisia annua has been found lots of pharmaceutical effects such as anti-malaria, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Artesunate on intestinal ischemia/reperfusion and the mechanism of how Artesunate works in mice. To establish the II/R model, the C57BL/c mice were subjected to occlude superior mesenteric artery (SMA) for 45 min and 120 min reperfusion, and the lung tissue was collected for examination. Severe lung injury occurred during the II/R, meanwhile Art pretreatment decreased the lung injury score, wet/dry ratio, the level of MDA, MPO, IL-1β, TNFα, CXCL1, MCP-1, the TUNEL-positive cells, Bax and Cleaved-Caspase3 protein expression obviously, and increased the activity of SOD and the expression of Bcl-2. In addition, the protein of P-AKT and HO-1 were upregulated during the Art pretreatment. Then the AKT inhibitor Triciribin and HO-1 inhibitor Tin-protoporphyrin IX were administered which reversed the protein expression of apoptosis, AKT and HO-1. Our study suggests that Art mitigated the II/R induced acute lung injury by targeting the oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis which is associated with the activating of AKT and HO-1, providing novel insights into the therapeutic candidate for the treatment of II/R induced acute lung injury.

Worldwide research trends on femur head necrosis (2000-2021): a bibliometrics analysis and suggestions for researchers

Background

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common and stubborn disease. The main causes are venous stasis of the femoral head, arterial blood supply damage, bone cell and bone marrow death, and bone tissue necrosis and subsequent repair obstacles. Over the past 22 years, the number of papers on ONFH has, overall, continued to increase.

Methods

Using bibliometrics, we investigated the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of global scientific output in the past 22 years. We searched Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and retrieved information associated with papers and records published between 2000 and 2021. We used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct bibliometric analysis and visual analysis on the overall distribution of annual output, major countries, active institutions, journals, authors, commonly cited literature, and keywords. The impact and quality of the papers were assessed using the global citation score (GCS).

Results

We retrieved a total of 2006 articles and reviews. Over the past 22 years, the number of publications (NP) increased. China ranked first in terms of NP, while the United States had the highest h-index and the highest number of citations (NC). Shanghai Jiao Tong University and International Orthopaedics were the institution and periodical, respectively. The paper written by Mont et al. in 2006 had the highest total GCS score, at 379. The top three keywords were "ischemic necrosis", "osteonecrosis", and "hip joint". Although there was a fluctuation in publications associated with ONFH, overall, the NP increased. China was the most prolific in this area, while the United States was the most influential country. The top 3 authors in terms of NP were Zhang, Motomura, and Zhao. Areas of focus in ONFH over recent years include signal pathway, genetic differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced osteogenesis, induced ischemic necrosis and osteogenesis.

Conclusions

Our bibliometrics analysis revealed the research hotspots and rapid development trends of ONFH research in the past 22 years. The most critical indicators [researchers, countries, research institutions, and journals publishing osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) research] relevant to the research hotspots in the field of ONFH research were analyzed.

Effect of Pei Yuan Tong Nao capsules on cerebral infarction: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND

Pei Yuan Tong Nao (PYTN) capsules has been widely used for the treatment of cerebrovascular disease, including cerebral infarction. However, the mechanisms of action of PYTN capsule on cerebral infarction are ambiguous and unclear. We conducted a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PYTN capsules for the treatment of cerebral infarction.

METHODS

A comprehensive search of several databases from 1966 to February 2022 will be conducted. The databases includes Ovid Medline In-Process & Other NonIndexed Citations, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, Ovid PsycINFO, Ovid Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Ovid Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus. Two authors independently performed the literature searching, data extraction, and quality evaluation. The risk of bias in each included study will be assessed utilizing the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool. The Review Manager 5.3 (Cochrane Collaboration, Oxford, UK) will be used to analyze the data.

RESULT

A synthesis of current evidence of PYTN capsules for cerebral infarction will be provided in this protocol.

CONCLUSION

This review will provide more reliable references to help clinicians make decisions when dealing with cerebral infarction.
