Natural Products Derived Porous Carbons for CO2 Capture

As it is now established that global warming and climate change are a reality, international investments are pouring in and rightfully so for climate change mitigation. Carbon capture and separation (CCS) is therefore gaining paramount importance as it is considered one of the powerful solutions for global warming. Sorption on porous materials is a promising alternative to traditional carbon dioxide (CO2 ) capture technologies. Owing to their sustainable availability, economic viability, and important recyclability, natural products-derived porous carbons have emerged as favorable and competitive materials for CO2 sorption. Furthermore, the fabrication of high-quality value-added functional porous carbon-based materials using renewable precursors and waste materials is an environmentally friendly approach. This review provides crucial insights and analyses to enhance the understanding of the application of porous carbons in CO2 capture. Various methods for the synthesis of porous carbon, their structural characterization, and parameters that influence their sorption properties are discussed. The review also delves into the utilization of molecular dynamics (MD), Monte Carlo (MC), density functional theory (DFT), and machine learning techniques for simulating adsorption and validating experimental results. Lastly, the review provides future outlook and research directions for progressing the use of natural products-derived porous carbons for CO2 capture.

Bimetallic AgNPs@dopamine modified-halloysite nanotubes-AuNPs for adenine determination using surface-enhanced Raman scattering

A bimetallic nanoparticles modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) hybrid was prepared by embedding AgNPs and modifying AuNPs on the inner or outer wall of dopamine-modified HNTs (DHNTs) in sequence. The resulting bimetallic AgNPs@DHNTs-AuNPs hybrid as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate exhibited improved enhancement ability over monometallic AgNPs@DHNTs, and DHNTs-AuNPs substrates, with intensity ratios of about 48:1:9 (crystal violet) and 11:1:2 (p-phenylenediamine). The giant SERS effect of AgNPs@DHNTs-AuNPs substrate is probably attributed to the synergetic enhancement of the electromagnetic field (Au/Ag), optical plasmon force, molecular enrichment (HNTs), and charge transfer (NPs-dopamine-molecules). The sensitive and reproductive AgNPs@DHNTs-AuNPs substrate was applied for SERS determination of adenine with a linear range of 0.010-0.50 mg·L^-1 and a detection limit of 2.2 μg·L^-1. The SERS method enables the rapid determination of adenine in fish, chicken kidney and heart, and serum samples, with recoveries of 83.5-121.6% and relative standard deviations of 2.5-7.9%. The SERS substrate has high value for rapid analysis of food and biomarker determinations. Omics Application of Bio-Hydrogen Production Through Green Alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

This article summarizes the current knowledge regarding omics approaches, which include genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, in the context of bio-hydrogen production in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. In this paper, critical genes (HydA1, Hyd A2, Sulp, Tla1, Sta7, PFL1) involved in H₂ metabolism were identified and analyzed for their function in H₂ accumulation. Furthermore, the advantages of gene microarrays and RNA-seq were compared, as well as their applications in transcriptomic analysis of H₂ production. Moreover, as a useful tool, proteomic analysis could identify different proteins that participate in H₂ metabolism. This review provides fundamental theory and an experimental basis for H₂ production, and further research effort is needed in this field.
