Abstract
Health literacy is a central resource for health-related decisions. Since the 1970s, however, the understanding of this term has changed in several ways. Initially, health literacy was considered only from the point of view of individual competencies, but in recent decades it has evolved into a more contextual understanding. Despite this conceptual evolution, current social and health challenges are still not adequately addressed.This article reflects on the developments in the understanding of the concept and on the relevance of health literacy in the face of the current polycrisis. Reference is made to a recent concept paper developed by the authors, which shows that health literacy is a central resource at the interface of healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion and that it can occur at different levels and in different forms. The discussion on health literacy also highlights the need to consider the challenges of systems, organizations, and settings, as decisions about health and well-being are made in all these contexts.The importance of health literacy as a key resource is increasing, particularly in addressing current social challenges, and is gaining additional relevance as a social determinant of health. Health literacy interventions can only be effectively developed, implemented, and evaluated if a shared understanding of health literacy exists, current challenges and contexts are considered, and key stakeholders act together when implementing measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, vaccination rates for preventable diseases, including influenza, have significantly dropped among racially and ethnically minoritized (REM) individuals in the United States. This study explored the effects of a community-based educational intervention designed to improve influenza vaccine literacy and acceptance among vulnerable REM individuals. METHODS The intervention included four 45 min interactive educational sessions on the influenza vaccine. The session attendees (18+) were invited to participate in a pre-/post-intervention study where an anonymous survey measured their post-COVID-19 pandemic attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors regarding the influenza virus and vaccine. To assess the effect of the intervention on vaccine literacy, we used a Mann-Whitney U test to test for differences between the pre-/post-intervention survey responses to seven knowledge-based questions. Descriptive statistics were employed to assess the impact of intervention on vaccine acceptance. RESULTS A total of 116 participants completed the pre-intervention survey, and 90 (78%) completed the post-intervention survey. All (100%) identified as REM, and 99% lived in highly vulnerable areas. Only 43% believed they were at risk for viral infection before the intervention, but 60% said the intervention helped them reassess their risk. We found significant differences in vaccine literacy when comparing the pre-/post-intervention survey responses, particularly regarding guideline-based vaccine recommendations (p < 0.05). Before the intervention, 65% of the participants indicated a high likelihood of receiving the influenza vaccine. In contrast, after the intervention, 81% of respondents indicated a high likelihood of being vaccinated, and 72% indicated that they were "extremely likely" to receive the immunization. CONCLUSIONS Community-based educational interventions can have a positive impact on influenza vaccine literacy and acceptance among vulnerable REM populations in the post-COVID-19 era.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Informed consent forms are important for assisting patients in making informed choices regarding medical procedures. Because of their lengthy nature, complexity and specialised terminology, consent forms usually prove challenging for the general public to comprehend. This pilot study aims to use Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer (ChatGPT), a large language model (LLM), to improve the readability and understandability of a consent form for vaccination. METHODS The study was conducted in Italy, within the Central Tuscany Local Health Unit. Three different consent forms were selected and approved: the standard consent form currently in use (A), a new form totally generated by ChatGPT (B) and a modified version of the standard form created by ChatGPT (C). Healthcare professionals in the vaccination unit were asked to evaluate the consent forms regarding adequacy, comprehensibility and completeness and to give an overall judgement. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's test were used to evaluate the median scores of the consent forms across these variables. RESULTS Consent forms A and C achieved the top scores in every category; consent form B obtained the lowest score. The median scores were 4.0 for adequacy on consent forms A and C and 3.0 on consent form B. Consent forms A and C received high overall judgement ratings with median scores of 4.0, whereas consent form B received a median score of 3.0. CONCLUSIONS The findings indicate that LLM tools such as ChatGPT could enhance healthcare communication by improving the clarity and accessibility of consent forms, but the best results are seen when these tools are combined with human knowledge and supervision.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increasing integration of chatbots across various sectors marks a significant shift in digital communication, and their role in healthcare makes no exception. This scoping review aims to systematically examine the role of chatbots in the perspective of organizational vaccine literacy, particularly in enhancing vaccine literacy and facilitating the dissemination of vaccine-related information, evaluating the potential of chatbots to transform vaccination communication strategies and improve health education outcomes. METHODS This scoping review adhered to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and PsycInfo was conducted from January 2020 to October 30, 2024, using keywords related to "chatbots" and "vaccination." Study selection involved a two-stage screening process, focusing on studies reporting the use of chatbots to improve vaccine literacy and uptake. Data were thematically analyzed and presented in a narrative format. RESULTS Twenty-two studies were included in the review: these studies demonstrate the effectiveness of chatbots in enhancing vaccine literacy and acceptance, mainly focusing on COVID-19 but also addressing HPV and childhood vaccinations. They highlight chatbots' role in improving the vaccine-literate environment through countering misinformation and improving communication with healthcare professionals, showcasing their potential to significantly influence public health outcomes and their adaptability to diverse populations and geographic regions. CONCLUSIONS These digital assistants could provide personalized and up-to-date information, improving not only knowledge but also attitudes and intentions towards vaccinations.

Abstract
Vaccine literacy (VL) is an important part of health literacy (HL), which is of great significance in reducing vaccine hesitancy and improving vaccine coverage rate. We aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of VL research conducted from 1982 to 2023 to evaluate its current status and prospects. All relevant publications were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and the Scopus database. The Bibliometrix R-package and VOSviewer software were used to analyze the publication outputs, countries, organizations, authors, journals, cited publications, and keywords. In total, 1,612 publications were included. The number of articles published on VL generally showed an increasing trend. The United States was in a leading position among all countries and had the closest connections with other countries and organizations. Its in-depth study of vaccine hesitancy provided a good foundation for VL research. Harvard University was the most productive organization. Bonaccorsi G was the most productive and cited author. VACCINES was the most productive journal. Research topics primarily revolved around vaccination, HL, vaccine hesitancy, and COVID-19 vaccine. In conclusion, the current research on the conceptual connotation and influencing factors of VL is insufficiently deep and should be further improved in the future to distinguish it from HL in a deeper manner. More tools for measuring VL need to be developed, such as those applicable to different populations and vaccines. The more complex relationship between VL, vaccine hesitancy and vaccination needs to be further explored. Gender differences deserve further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Healthcare professionals' (HCPs') accurate knowledge of and positive attitudes toward immunization greatly influence society's acceptance of it. Early and appropriate immunization education for HCP students is vital. This study aimed to understand current immunization education and vaccine hesitancy among medical, nursing, and pharmacy students in Japan. METHODS An anonymous self-administered online questionnaire was administered to final-year medical, nursing, and pharmacy students in Japan between 6 and 31 March 2023. Survey items assessed current immunization education, preparedness for clinical practice, immunization knowledge, and the degree of vaccine hesitancy. RESULTS Overall, 525 students (127 (24.2%) medical, 252 (48.0%) nursing, and 146 (27.8%) pharmacy) responded, of whom 39.8% raised concerns regarding new vaccine risks (24.4%,15.9%, and 23.3%, respectively; p = 0.22) and adverse effects (14.2%, 12.7%, and 17.1%, respectively; p = 0.57), including trust in government information (61.4%, 50/4%, and 56.8%, respectively; p = 0.337) or recommended vaccines (57.5%, 4.7%, and 43.8%, respectively; p = 0.113). Preparedness for future clinical practice varied significantly among schools, with medical students (54%) feeling more prepared compared to nursing (34.3%) and pharmacy students (39.1%) (p < 0.001). The average correct immunization knowledge rate was 59.9%, with significant differences between schools (medical 62.7%, nursing 57.6%, and pharmacy 59.6%; p < 0.001). There was no significant correlation between knowledge level and self-assessed preparedness (r = 0.066, p = 0.132). The HCP students wished to receive more immunization education and sought improvements in comprehensive knowledge, communication skills, and practice-based content. CONCLUSIONS For Japan's HCP students, the enhancement of immunization education focusing on hesitancy and risk-benefit communication is necessary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vaccination is one of the most economic and effective strategies for preventing infectious diseases. However, public intention to be vaccinated is, to a certain degree, influenced by issues related to vaccine hesitancy, anti-vaccine movement, and public concerns about safety and adverse effects. Vaccine literacy is considered as a positive factor in improving vaccination intention, however, the correlation between vaccine literacy and vaccination intention has not been thoroughly investigated in mainland China. This study aims to (1) explore the correlation between vaccine literacy and vaccination intention among adults in mainland China; (2) investigate whether participants could seek out vaccine information on their own initiative and whether they knew basic information of common vaccines. METHODS An online cross-sectional survey was conducted on 614 adult participants from 27 May to 8 June 2023 by a convenience sampling. Data were collected by using the questionnaire of demographic characteristics, vaccine literacy, vaccination intention, initiative of seeking out vaccine information, and basic vaccine quiz about common vaccines. Data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS version 24.0 at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS The mean scores of functional, and interactive-critical vaccine literacy were 2.97 ± 0.70 and 2.73 ± 0.66; the vaccination intentions of influenza, hepatitis B, COVID-19 and HPV were 58.5%, 80.0%, 71.3% and 62.9% respectively; interactive-critical vaccine literacy was significantly and positively associated with vaccination intention. The results also showed: 71.4% of the participants could seek out vaccine information on their own initiative, however, a certain proportion of the participants merely knew vaccine names and did not know basic information of common vaccines, especially influenza vaccine and hepatitis B vaccine. CONCLUSIONS There is still room for improvement in vaccine literacy, vaccination intention of influenza and HPV vaccines, and basic vaccine information. Based on the significantly positive correlation between interactive-critical vaccine literacy and vaccination intention, it is advisable to harness vaccine literacy to boost vaccination intention by communicating and learning basic information of common vaccines.

Abstract
(1) The Russian invasion of Ukraine forced many people to leave their country and seek asylum in various European countries, with serious consequences from a health perspective. In this context, we describe the health measures undertaken by AcToVax4NAM Consortium Countries (Cyprus-Germany-Greece-Italy-Malta-Poland-Romania-Spain) to prevent Vaccine-Preventable Disease (VPD) outbreaks in the context of mass movements of populations that resulted from the crisis in Ukraine. (2) We collected information on the vaccinations offered to Ukrainians in the Consortium Countries. (3) All these countries have provided Temporary Protection (TP) status to refugees from Ukraine and have followed the recommendations of European and International Agencies to offer them vaccinations according to the National Immunisation Programmes. The COVID-19 vaccination is offered in all countries with regard to the general population. Most countries provide information on TP and access to health/vaccination services in the Ukrainian language. (4) The information collected shows a common effort to ensure the adequate planning of health and vaccination services for refugees from Ukraine and, very often, to include them in the national vaccination offer. It is important that this initial response towards people who have fled Ukraine will be continued following the emergency but, more importantly, that it serves as a best practice towards all migrants and refugees entering the EU.

Abstract
Vaccine literacy (VL) is the ability to find, understand, and evaluate vaccination-related information to make appropriate decisions about immunization. The tools developed so far for its evaluation have produced consistent results. However, some dimensions may be underestimated due to the complexity of factors influencing VL. Moreover, the heterogeneity of methods used in studies employing these tools hinders a comprehensive understanding of its role even more. To overcome these limitations, a path has been sought to propose new instruments. This has necessitated updating earlier literature reviews on VL and related tools, exploring its relationship with vaccine hesitancy (VH), and examining associated variables like beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors towards immunization. Based on the current literature, and supported by the re-analysis of a dataset from an earlier study, we propose a theoretical framework to serve as the foundation for creating future assessment tools. These instruments should not only evaluate the psychological factors underlying the motivational aspect of VL, but also encompass knowledge and competencies. The positioning of VL in the framework at the intersection between sociodemographic antecedents and attitudes, leading to behaviors and outcomes, explains why and how VL can directly or indirectly influence vaccination decisions by countering VH and operating at personal, as well as at organizational and community levels.

Abstract
Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defined an infodemic as an overabundance of information, accurate or not, in the digital and physical space, accompanying an acute health event such as an outbreak or epidemic. It can impact people's risk perceptions, trust, and confidence in the health system, and health workers. As an immediate response, the WHO developed the infodemic management (IM) frameworks, research agenda, intervention frameworks, competencies, and processes for reference by health authorities. Objective This systematic review explored the response to and during acute health events by health authorities and other organizations operating in health. It also assessed the effectiveness of the current interventions. Methods On 26 June 2023, an online database search included Medline (Ovid), Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Epistemonikos, and the WHO website. It included English-only, peer-reviewed studies or reports covering IM processes applied by health organizations that reported their effectiveness. There was no restriction on publication dates. Two independent reviewers conducted all screening, inclusion, and quality assessments, and a third reviewer arbitrated any disagreement between the two reviewers. Results Reviewers identified 945 records. After a final assessment, 29 studies were included in the review and were published between 2021 and 2023. Some countries (Pakistan, Yemen, Spain, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, Finland, South Korea, and Russia) applied different methods of IM to people's behaviors. These included but were not limited to launching media and TV conservations, using web and scientific database searches, posting science-based COVID-19 information, implementing online surveys, and creating an innovative ecosystem of digital tools, and an Early AI-supported response with Social Listening (EARS) platform. Most of the interventions were effective in containing the harmful effects of COVID-19 infodemic. However, the quality of the evidence was not robust. Discussion Most of the infodemic interventions applied during COVID-19 fall within the recommended actions of the WHO IM ecosystem. As a result, the study suggests that more research is needed into the challenges facing health systems in different operational environments and country contexts in relation to designing, implementing, and evaluating IM interventions, strategies, policies, and systems.

Abstract
Recommending co-administration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines has emerged as a strategy to enhance vaccination coverage. This study describes the policy on co-administration and uptake of influenza and COVID-19 vaccination in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada between 2019 and 2023. We collected co-administration policy data from governmental websites, national health organizations, and newspapers. Influenza vaccination coverage among persons ≥65 years and COVID-19 vaccination coverage rates among persons ≥60 years or the general population were collected using national databases, the ECDC database, or ourworldindata.org between 2019 and 2023. Descriptive analyses were used. We collected data from 30/32 (94%) countries on vaccination policy in seasons 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, with most countries (25/30 to 30/30) having policies recommending co-administration. For influenza vaccination coverage, we collected data from 29/32 (91%, 2019-2020), 28/32 (88%, 2020-2021), 27/32 (84%, 2021-2022), and 6/32 (19%, 2022-2023) countries. COVID-19 vaccination was collected from 32/32 (2020-2021), 31/32 (97%, 2021-2022), and 24/32 (75%, 2022-2023) countries. Influenza vaccination coverage increased from 2019-2020 to 2021-2022. COVID-19 vaccination coverage was higher among countries with higher influenza vaccination coverage. By 2022-2023, all countries included implemented a policy supporting co-administration. A positive correlation existed between higher influenza vaccination coverage and higher COVID-19 vaccination rates.

Medical communication should be accessible, relying both on an emotional approach and accurate information. Trained professionals should curate communication with the public.

Abstract
In this article, we report results from a nationwide survey on pandemic-related health behavior in Russia. A total of 2,771 respondents aged 18 to 82 were interviewed between January 21 and March 3, 2021. The survey included questions on perceived vulnerability to coronavirus, prevention-related health behavior, readiness for vaccination, and general awareness about COVID-19. Descriptive data showed that 21.2% of respondents reported high vulnerability to the coronavirus, and 25% expressed fear. Moreover, 38.7% of the surveyed individuals reported low trust in vaccination efficacy, and 57.5% were unwilling to take a vaccine, which was much higher than the official data. Based on the evidence obtained, four types of health behavior during the pandemic were constructed. Rational (29.3%) and denying (28.6%) behaviors prevailed in men, while women were found to more likely behave with a vaccine-hesitant demeanor (35.7%). Educational background affected the proportion of respondents with the denying type of health behavior, who were also of younger age. The rational behavioral type was found to be more common among respondents aged above 50 years and prevailed as well among individuals with university degrees. The middle-aged population of Russia was highly compliant with prevention-related health practices; however, vaccine hesitancy was also high among them. Furthermore, health behaviors varied significantly across the Federal Districts of Russia. We are convinced that our results contribute to existing public health practices and may help improve communication campaigns to cause positive health behaviors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low coverage of influenza vaccination in nursing home (NH) staff may be attributed to factors such as vaccine confidence (VC) and vaccine literacy (VL). Our study aimed to evaluate the role of VL and VC in predicting the intention to get the influenza vaccine in a sample of employees of NHs in Tuscany, Italy. METHODS Data from staff members in Tuscany were collected using an online questionnaire that examined influenza vaccination history, intentions, demographic information, health status, and VL. Statistical analyses explored the relationships between VC, VL, and vaccination intentions. RESULTS The study included 1794 respondents, (86.3%) and assistants/aides (58.1%), with a median age of 46 years. The intention to get vaccinated was significantly higher among those with health risk conditions, and there was a positive association between VC and VL, specifically its interactive/critical component. The mediation analysis showed that VC completely mediated the relationship between VL and the intention to get vaccinated, with significant effects observed in different subgroups. CONCLUSIONS VC is a key factor that mediates the effect of VL on vaccine intention. These results suggest that interventions aimed at improving VL alone may not be sufficient to increase vaccine uptake unless VC is also addressed.
