Abstract
About 8-10 % of all people of reproductive age are unable to conceive children. In recent years, an increased number of consultations for fertility treatments has been observed with a continuing positive trend. It is known that infertility itself and assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) are frequently associated with recurrent miscarriages, pregnancy complications or psychosocial problems. In parallel, metabolic and vascular diseases and obesity are becoming a growing issue, even among the younger population, and are affecting fertility and pregnancy outcomes of mother and child. Possible interactions between these conditions and the underlying mechanisms are not well understood hitherto. Furthermore, reproductive outcomes are increasingly challenged by the potential effects of environmental pollution on key reproductive processes, including oocyte maturation and atresia, sperm quality, implantation as well as their role in recurrent miscarriages. The Leipzig reproductive health (LE-REP) project is aimed at investigating the interplay between ARTs and the aforementioned reproductive challenges, including different aspects of fertility problems, early and late pregnancy as well as long-term effects on mothers and their children born via fertility treatment. This multidisciplinary initiative is expected to provide a deep understanding of underlying mechanisms, providing a framework for future preventive strategies improving reproductive health. Finally, LE-REP aims to establish a high-level university fertility center of excellence, combining advanced clinical care, cutting-edge research and education to train future reproductive medicine specialists.

Abstract
An increasing number of women are conceiving through assisted reproductive technology; however, few studies have investigated their mental health after successful conception. This study investigated the changes in depressive symptoms in women using assisted reproductive technology and the association between the mode of conception and perinatal depressive symptoms. A longitudinal observational study was conducted from 2015 to 2019, 542 pregnant women completed questionnaires on depressive symptoms at eight timepoints during the prepregnancy, pregnancy and first-year postpartum periods. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. A generalized estimating equation regression model was employed for repeated measures. In the assisted reproductive technology group, depressive symptoms were more prevalent during early pregnancy and at 1 month postpartum than before pregnancy, and more prevalent before pregnancy and at 1 month after childbirth than in the spontaneous conception group. No significant association was identified between the mode of conception and depressive symptoms during the antenatal or postnatal period. The lack of full-time employment and prepregnancy depressive symptoms were associated with antenatal depressive symptoms. Primipara status and depressive symptoms during prepregnancy and pregnancy were associated with depressive symptoms during the first-year postpartum. Assisted reproductive technology was not a risk factor for depressive symptoms during the pregnancy and postpartum periods, whereas primipara status, lack of full-time employment and prepregnancy depressive symptoms were negative predictors. Therefore, targeted mental health interventions should address these specific factors to effectively support maternal mental health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the association between a history of infertility treatment and perinatal depression has been investigated, most research has been cross-sectional and has not used diagnostic assessment tools. AIMS This study investigates longitudinally the association between a history of infertility treatment and perinatal depression using WHO-Composite International Diagnostic Interview 3.0 (WHO-CIDI 3.0) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). METHODS This study used data (N = 2,435) from the control group of a randomised controlled trial on a sample of pregnant women. Survival analysis was used to examine the influence of infertility treatment on perinatal depressive disorder evaluated by WHO-CIDI 3.0. The EPDS scores at four time points (T1 [baseline]: 18 ± 2 weeks gestation, T2: 32 weeks gestation, T3: 1 week postpartum, T4: 3 months postpartum) were analysed using generalised mixed model analysis. RESULTS The risk of experiencing a major depressive episode evaluated by WHO-CIDI 3.0 did not significantly differ between women conceiving through infertility treatment and those conceiving spontaneously (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.64, p = 0.109). The longitudinal analysis demonstrated that EPDS scores significantly increased at T3 and T4 among women conceiving through infertility treatment compared with those conceiving spontaneously (adjusted estimates of fixed effect from T1 to T3: 1.17, p < 0.01; from T1 to T4: 0.71, p = 0.022). CONCLUSION Women conceiving through infertility treatment were not found to have a higher risk of diagnosable perinatal depressive disorder than those conceiving naturally. However, a history of infertility treatment can marginally increase sub-clinical postpartum depressive symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have become the main treatment for infertility. ART treatment can be a stressful life event for infertile females. Whether there is an association between ARTs and postpartum depressive symptoms (PDS) has not been established. METHODS PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and CNKI were searched. The pooled outcome was the difference in incidence of PDS within 1 year postpartum between ARTs and the spontaneous pregnancy group. RESULTS A total of 12 cohort studies, which were conducted in eight developed countries and two developing countries, were involved. In total, 106,338 pregnant women, including 4990 infertile females with ARTs treatment and 101,348 women with spontaneous pregnancy, were enrolled in our final analysis. ARTs women had a lower incidence of PDS compared to the spontaneous pregnancy group according to a random effect model (OR = 0.83, 95 % CI: 0.71-0.97, p = 0.022, I2 = 62.0 %). Subgroup analyses indicated that studies on late PDS (follow-up: 3-12 months postpartum) were more heterogeneous than those on early PDS (follow-up: <3 months postpartum) (I2 = 24.3 % vs. I2 = 0 %, interaction p-value < 0.001). There was a strong relationship between ARTs and late PDS (OR = 0.65, 95 % CI: 0.55-0.77, p < 0.001). Therefore, the possible source of heterogeneity was the postpartum evaluation time, which was confirmed by post-hoc meta-regression. LIMITATIONS Some underlying confounders, such as previous psychiatric illness, the limited availability of ARTs, and ethnic disparities, cannot be ignored and may have biased interpretation of the results. CONCLUSION The available data suggested that ARTs were associated with lower incidence of PDS, especially when follow-up lasted over 3 months. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution. Better-designed trials are needed to confirm this association.

Abstract
Currently, the number of pregnant women at high risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and using assisted reproductive technology (ART) is increasing. The present study aims to explore the relationship between ART and physical activity in Chinese pregnant women at high risk for GDM in early pregnancy. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a regional teaching hospital in Guangzhou, China, between July 2022 and March 2023. Three hundred fifty-five pregnant women at high risk for GDM in early pregnancy completed the Chinese version of the Pregnant Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ), the Pregnancy Physical Activity Knowledge Scale, the Pregnancy Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Scale, the Pregnancy Physical Activity Social Support Scale, and a sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics data sheet. Compared to women who conceived naturally, women who used ART were more likely to be 35 years or older, unemployed, primigravidae, and to have intentionally planned their pregnancies. Women who used ART had significantly lower levels of physical activity and self-efficacy compared to their counterparts who conceived naturally. Over half (55.6%) of women who used ART reported being physically inactive, and those with lower self-efficacy, as well as the unemployed, were significantly more likely to be inactive. Physical inactivity is a critical clinical issue among women who use ART, especially in the context of GDM risk. Future research should develop and test physical activity programs, including enhancing physical activity self-efficacy for women who use ART. Patient or public contribution: In this study, survey questionnaires were completed by participants among Chinese pregnant women at high risk for GDM in early pregnancy.

Abstract
Background Longitudinal studies investigating the prevalence of comorbid anxiety and depression (CAD) and its risk factors during the perinatal period are limited. The objective of this longitudinal study was to describe the prevalence and risk factors of CAD among pregnant and postpartum women in China. Methods From the Population Health Data Archive of the National Population Health Data Center, 1,941 Chinese pregnant or postpartum women who were surveyed for both depressive and anxiety symptoms during and after pregnancy were included in the study. This population-based longitudinal study was conducted between March 2017 and March 2022. The self-rating anxiety scale and self-rating depression scale were used to assess anxiety and depression symptoms at four time points throughout the perinatal period. The generalized estimation equation model was used to identify sociodemographic, obstetric, and mental health factors for CAD. Results The prevalence of CAD was 15.67%, 8.36%, 11.64%, and 13.24% in the first, second, and third trimesters and postpartum, respectively. A higher proportion of women reporting, compared to women with single anxiety or depression, CAD during and after pregnancy were primiparas (OR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.06-1.65), having a smoking history (OR = 1.51, 95% CI 1.05-2.18), and having dissatisfied marital relationship (OR = 1.97, 95% CI 1.28-3.06). Women conceived with assisted reproductive treatment were reported to be less likely to have CAD (OR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.55-0.86). Conclusions These findings highlight that CAD is relatively common in pregnant and postpartum women and recommend targeted interventions for higher risk women, specifically primiparas with a history of smoking and dissatisfied marital relationships.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Existing research indicates that pregnant women who conceived through fertility treatment might experience more stress and anxiety compared to women who conceived spontaneously. Therefore, these women might have additional antenatal care needs. METHODS A search for both quantitative and qualitative studies was performed in PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL and MEDLINE through May 2021, guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. 21 articles met the inclusion criteria. After methodological quality appraisal using the Mixed Methods Appraising Tool, 15 studies were included in the review. RESULTS Analysis of the studies identified behavioral, relational/social, emotional, and cognitive needs and women's preference about maternity care. Women who conceived through fertility treatment reported lower social and physical functioning scores and elevated levels of anxiety and depression compared to women who conceived spontaneously. They reported difficulties adjusting to pregnancy and experienced a care gap between discharge from the fertility clinic and going to local maternity care services for their first consultation, and a care gap postpartum. CONCLUSIONS Women who conceived through fertility treatment have additional antenatal care needs. We recommend to offer these women more frequent check-ins, and to pay attention to the impact of their infertility and treatment on their pregnancy.

Abstract
Infertility treatment experiences may accumulate and influence postpartum psychological well-being among women with infertility. However, the association between infertility treatment experiences and postpartum depressive symptoms remained unclear. This cross-sectional survey aimed to describe depressive symptom scores of 180 women, who conceived while undergoing infertility treatment, at 2-6 months after childbirth, and to explore factors, including infertility history and treatment experiences, associated with postpartum depressive symptoms. Data were collected via telephone interviews and patient record reviews. Postpartum depressive symptoms were measured using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, with a cutoff score of 10. The prevalence of postpartum depressive symptoms was 34.4 %. Higher perceived stress levels after childbirth than before undergoing infertility treatment, a duration of infertility diagnosis longer than three years, maternal age >35 years, pregnancy conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF), and experiencing all three lines of infertility treatment, namely ovarian stimulation, intrauterine insemination, and IVF, were associated with a higher risk of postpartum depressive symptoms. Breastfeeding, social support, and baby sex in line with stated preference were negatively associated with postpartum depressive symptoms. There were no significant interactions between the variables. The women's infertility history and treatment experiences were found to have influenced their postpartum depressive symptoms, especially among women who had a long duration of infertility, conceived through IVF, and had received all lines of infertility treatment.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the influence of antenatal factors such as anxiety, depression, perceived stress, marital satisfaction, maternal antenatal attachment, and social support on postnatal maternal attachment and competence in women who received assisted reproductive treatment. A prospective longitudinal cohort design was adopted with two groups-50 women who received assisted reproductive treatment and 50 women who had natural conception. Both the groups were assessed using self-report measures over three time points: T1, 7th month of pregnancy; T2, 2 weeks postpartum; and T3, 3 months postpartum. A final sample of 44 women who had assisted conception and 47 women who had natural conception completed assessments across all three time points. Descriptive, bivariate analyses, and stepwise multiple linear regression analyses were carried out. In the assisted conception group, maternal antenatal attachment, depression, and marital satisfaction significantly predicted postnatal maternal-infant attachment. Perceived social support, depression, and duration of marriage significantly predicted postnatal maternal competence. In the naturally conceived group, maternal antenatal attachment and social support significantly predicted postnatal maternal-infant attachment; perceived stress significantly predicted postnatal maternal competence. Antenatal depressive symptoms and relational factors significantly influenced postnatal maternal attachment and competence highlighting the need for screening and targeted psychological interventions during pregnancy.

Abstract
This study explores whether undergoing medically assisted reproduction (MAR) is associated with experiencing loneliness and whether this association varies by gender and having a live birth. Using two waves of the Generations and Gender Survey (n = 2,725) from countries in Central and Eastern Europe, we estimate the changes in levels of emotional and social loneliness among pregnancy seekers in heterosexual relationships and test if they vary by the mode of conception while controlling for individual sociodemographic characteristics. Individuals who underwent MAR experienced increased levels of social loneliness compared to individuals who were trying to conceive spontaneously. This association is entirely driven by respondents who did not have a live birth between the two observation periods, while the results did not differ by gender. No differences emerged in emotional loneliness. Our findings suggest that increased social loneliness during the MAR process might be attributable to infertility-related stress and stigma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the relationship between the anxiety and depressive trajectory of women conceived through assisted reproductive technology (ART) and their children's emotional and behavioral problems. METHODS This prospective cohort study including 18,711 women, was conducted between July 2014 and December 2017. Self-rating scales for anxiety and depression were used before treatment, during the first trimester, and two to three years postpartum. A latent class growth analysis identified their maternal anxiety and depressive symptom trajectories. Multiple comparison and linear regression models were performed to assess the relationships between maternal trajectories and their offspring's emotional and behavioral problems. RESULTS Three longitudinal heterogeneous trajectories of maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms were identified: resilient, recurrent, and emergent. After adjusting for covariates, children with mothers in the recurrent and emergent trajectory groups had higher Child Behavior Checklist/2-3 scores. Additionally, the participants with a recurrent trajectory had lower education and employment levels and younger maternal age at delivery. They also had a history of ovarian surgery, primipara, secondary infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, and more embryo transferred cycles, including intracytoplasmic sperm injections. Those with resilient trajectories had higher antral follicle counts and GnRH antagonist protocol. Finally, the participants with emergent trajectories had a lower monthly income, primipara, ectopic pregnancy, and fresh embryo transfers. CONCLUSIONS Infertile women's psychological stress was not alleviated by the ART-sociodemographic, infertility-related and treatment-related characteristics determined three mental health trajectories. Children with mothers in recurrent and emergent trajectories showed higher odds of experiencing emotional and behavioral problems.

Abstract
PURPOSE Women who utilize assisted-reproductive technology (ART) to achieve pregnancy experience unique circumstances before and during their pregnancy. This study aims to examine the progression of mental health in pregnant women who conceived via various methods of ART to understand gestational time periods of emotional stability or risk specific to these populations. METHODS Secondary analysis of the Yale Pink and Blue Study - a prospective cohort involving women from 137 obstetrical practices in the northeastern United States between 2005-2009. Depressive and anxiety symptoms among spontaneous, planned pregnancies were compared to ART pregnancies using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and its anxiety subscale (EPDS-3A), respectively. Generalized Estimating Equations were used to compare group changes (EPDS and EPDS-3A score threshold ≥10) at timepoints of <17 weeks (T1), 28(±2) weeks (T2), and 8(±4) weeks postpartum (T3). RESULTS 1,466 spontaneous, planned pregnancies were compared to 191 pregnancies conceived via ART. Prevalence of depressive symptoms were similar between conception groups. Change in prevalence over time differed significantly between those groups (from T1 to T3 (β 0.59), as well as between spontaneous pregnancies compared to autologous gamete ART pregnancies (from T1 to T2 (β 0.48) and T1 to T3 (β 0.65). Course of anxiety did not differ between conception groups. CONCLUSIONS Women who conceive via ART have different rates of change in depressive symptoms throughout gestation compared to women with spontaneous pregnancies.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Is the Patient Health Questionnaire-8 (PHQ-8) a valid and reliable measure of depression in first-time mothers who conceived via ART? SUMMARY ANSWER The results from this study provide initial support for the reliability and validity of the PHQ-8 as a measure of depression in mothers who have conceived using ART. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Women who achieved a clinical pregnancy using ART experience many stressors and may be at an increased risk of depression. The PHQ-8 is a brief measure designed to detect the presence and severity of depressive symptoms. It has been validated in many populations; however, it has not been validated for use in this population. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This is a cross-sectional study of 171 first-time mothers in the USA, recruited through Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS The reliability of the PHQ-8 was measured through a Cronbach’s alpha, the convergent validity was measured through the correlation between the PHQ-8 and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) measure of anxiety symptoms, and the structural validity was measured through a Confirmatory Factor Analysis. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE The Cronbach’s alpha for the total PHQ-8 was acceptable (α = 0.922). The correlation between the PHQ-8 and the GAD-7 was large (r = 0.88) indicating good convergent validity. Ultimately, a bifactor model provided the best model fit (χ2(13) = 23.8, P = 0.033; Comparative Fit Index = 0.987; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.07, Tucker–Lewis Index = 0.972). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The results are limited by: the predominantly white and well-educated sample, a lack of causation between the use of artificial reproductive technology and depressive symptoms, including mothers with children up to 5 years old, convergent validity being based on associations with a related construct instead of the same construct, lack of test-retest reliability, divergent validity and criterion-related validity, data collected through MTurk, and the fact that the measures used were all self-report and therefore may be prone to bias. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Consistent with previous literature, a bifactor model for the PHQ-8 was supported. As such, when assessing depression in first-time mothers who conceived via ART, using both the PHQ-8 total score and subdomain scores may yield the most valuable information. The results from this study provide preliminary support for the reliability and validity of the PHQ-8 as a measure of depression in first-time mothers who conceived using ART. Abstract
Women with assisted reproduction techniques (ART) have a different psychological profile than women with a spontaneous pregnancy. These differences may put the former group at higher risk for depressive symptomatology. Our aim was to determine what sociodemographic factors and psychological variables interact with early depressive symptoms in pregnant women with ART. This is a cross-sectional, non-interventional, and observational study where a total of 324 women were analyzed in the first trimester of pregnancy at the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (Spain). Women completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale, the Resilience inventory, the General concerns (ad hoc scale), the Stressful life events, and the prenatal version of Postpartum Depression Predictors Inventory-Revised (PDPI-R), including socioeconomic status, pregnancy intendedness, self-esteem, partner support, family support, friends support, marital satisfaction, and life stress. According to our models, women undergoing ART had significantly increased the PHQ-9 scores (β = 6.75 ± 0.74; p-value < 0.001). Being single also increased the PHQ-9 score. Related to the psychological variables, anxiety (β = 0.43 ± 0.06; p-value < 0.001) and stressful life events (β = 0.17 ± 0.06; p-value = 0.003) increased PHQ-9 scores. In contrast, resilience (β = -0.05 ± 0.02; p-value = 0.004), self-esteem (β = -1.21 ± 0.61; p-value = 0.048), and partner support (β = -1.50 ± 0.60; p-value = 0.013) decreased PHQ-9 scores. We concluded that women undergoing ART need interventions to reduce anxiety and stressful life events, and to improve resilience, self-esteem, and emotional partner support to prevent depressive symptomatology during this important phase in their lives.

Abstract
Background Pregnancy is a time of profound physical and emotional change as well as an increased risk of mental illness. While strengthening social support is a common recommendation to reduce such mental health risk, no systematic review or meta-analysis has yet examined the relationship between social support and mental problems during pregnancy. Methods The PRISMA checklist was used as a guide to systematically review relevant peer-reviewed literature reporting primary data analyses. PubMed, Psych Info, MIDIRS, SCOPUS, and CINAHL database searches were conducted to retrieve research articles published between the years 2000 to 2019. The Newcastle–Ottawa Scale tool was used for quality appraisal and the meta-analysis was conducted using STATA. The Q and the I2 statistics were used to evaluate heterogeneity. A random-effects model was used to pool estimates. Publication bias was assessed using a funnel plot and Egger’s regression test and adjusted using trim and Fill analysis. Result From the identified 3760 articles, 67 articles with 64,449 pregnant women were part of the current systematic review and meta-analysis. From the total 67 articles, 22 and 45 articles included in the narrative analysis and meta-analysis, respectively. From the total articles included in the narrative analysis, 20 articles reported a significant relationship between low social support and the risk of developing mental health problems (i.e. depression, anxiety, and self-harm) during pregnancy. After adjusting for publication bias, based on the results of the random-effect model, the pooled odds ratio (POR) of low social support was AOR: 1.18 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.41) for studies examining the relationship between low social support and antenatal depression and AOR: 1.97 (95% CI: 1.34, 2.92) for studies examining the relationship between low social support and antenatal anxiety. Conclusion Low social support shows significant associations with the risk of depression, anxiety, and self-harm during pregnancy. Policy-makers and those working on maternity care should consider the development of targeted social support programs with a view to helping reduce mental health problems amongst pregnant women. It is supplemented by hormonal changes and can represent a time of increased risk for the occurrence of mental illness like depression, anxiety and self-harm. Providing good social support for the pregnant mother reduce this risk and prevent pregnancy complication and adverse birth outcome. However, no systematic review and/or meta-analysis has explored the associations between social support and mental illness (depression, anxiety, self-harm) among pregnant women. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between social support and mental illness (anxiety, depression, and self-harm) during pregnancy. The review identified 67 relevant articles with 64,449 pregnant women, from PubMed, Psych Info, MIDIRS, SCOPUS, and CINAHL database. Of the total 67 articles, 22 articles included in the narrative review and 45 articles included in the meta-analysis. Among studies included in the narrative synthesis, a majority of them reported significant positive associations between low social support and antenatal depression, antenatal anxiety and self-harm during pregnancy. Further, the pooled estimates of the meta-analysis show that low social support had a significant positive association with antenatal depression (AOR: 1.18 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.41)) and antenatal anxiety (AOR: 1.97 (95% CI: 1.34, 2.92)). Therefore, maternal health professionals need to have discussions with pregnant women regarding the level and source of social support they receive. Maternal health professionals may also need to consider encouraging the social network of pregnant women to improve social support being given. Policy-makers and those working on maternity care should consider the development of targeted social support programs with a view to helping reduce mental health problems amongst pregnant women.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mental health of women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment during the novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak in Xi'an, China. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional study was administered to women undergoing ART treatment during the outbreak period (599 women in February 2020) and the control period (892 women in May 2020) at the Northwest Women's and Children's Hospital, Xi'an, China. Results: Both the ART-treated women surveyed during the outbreak period and those surveyed during the control period had high scores on the fear dimension (0.88, 0.51). The total scores for mental health among the participants during the control period were lower than those during the outbreak period (difference = -0.22; 95% CI = -0.25, -0.18). Lower scores were also seen during the control period, compared to those in the outbreak period, for depression (difference = -0.18; 95% CI = -0.23, -0.13), neurasthenia (difference = -0.31; 95% CI = -0.36, -0.25), fear (difference = -0.37; 95% CI = -0.43, -0.31), compulsion anxiety (difference = -0.13; 95% CI = -0.16, -0.09), and hypochondriasis (difference = -0.09; 95% CI = -0.12, -0.06). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 global pandemic, the mental health of women undergoing ART treatment in Xi'an, China, was primarily manifested as fear. As the pandemic was brought under control, the mental health of ART-treated women improved. As evidenced by these results, the COVID-19 pandemic influences the mental health of women undergoing ART treatment, and clinicians should be aware of this for similar future situations.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study explored the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health and adaptation of behavior of Zhuang women in China to provide more specific guidance for the social and medical practice of pregnant women during public health emergencies. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS This cross-sectional study recruited 446 pregnant Zhuang women from obstetric outpatient clinics in four tertiary hospitals and online maternity schools in Nanning, Guangxi, between February 24 and March 1, 2020. Self-designed questionnaires and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale were used. RESULTS During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence rate of anxiety among women was 36.77%, and some adaptation of behavior was observed. Logistic regression analysis showed that pregnant women who had an annual household income of less than $7,000, were primiparous, went out for prenatal examination, wanted to self-monitor during pregnancy but did not know how to do it, believed that they should be strictly isolated at home and cancel prenatal examinations, and expected to receive pregnancy healthcare through teleconsultation services showed a higher risk of anxiety. Nevertheless, pregnant Zhuang women who were 22-35 years old, undergraduate-educated, and in their second trimester were less likely to suffer from anxiety. CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic has a significant psychological impact on pregnant women from ethnic minorities. Factors related to quarantine and social isolation policies appear to drive changes in behaviors and anxiety disorders. Multidisciplinary mental health services and culturally sensitive interventions are necessary for minority pregnant women, especially for low-income primiparous women in the first or third trimester.
