Abstract
A new drug delivery system using an asymmetric polyethersulfone (PES) membrane modified by SBA-15 and glutamine-modified SBA-15 (SBA-Q) was prepared in this study by the aim of azithromycin delivery enhancement in both in vitro and ex vivo experiments. The research focused on optimizing membrane performance by adjusting critical parameters including drug concentration, membrane thickness, modifier percentage, polymer percentage, and pore maker percentage. To characterize the fabricated membranes, various techniques were employed, including scanning electron microscopy, water contact angle, and tensile strength assessments. Following optimization, membrane composition of 17% PES, 2% polyvinylpyrrolidone, 1% SBA-15, and 0.5% SBA-Q emerged as the most effective. The optimized membranes demonstrated a substantial increase in drug release (906 mg/L) compared to the unmodified membrane (440 mg/L). The unique membrane structure, with a dense top layer facilitating sustained drug release and a porous sub-layer acting as a drug reservoir, contributed to this improvement. Biocompatibility assessments, antibacterial activity analysis, blood compatibility tests, and post-diffusion tissue integrity evaluations confirmed the promising biocompatibility of the optimized membranes. Moreover, long-term performance evaluations involving ten repeated usages underscored the reusability of the optimized membrane, highlighting its potential for sustained and reliable drug delivery applications.

Abstract
Skin wound healing is a complex physiological process that involves various cell types, growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive compounds. In this study, a novel dual-function multilayered nanofibrous membrane is developed for chronic wound application. The membrane is composed of five alternating layers of polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers (PCL-PVA) with a dual function: the PCL nanofibrous layers allow cell adhesion and growth, and the PVA layers enriched with incorporated platelet lysate (PCL-PVA + PL) serve as a drug delivery system for continuous release of bioactive compounds from PL into an aqueous environment. The material is produced using a needleless multi-jet electrospinning approach which can lead to homogeneous large-scale production. The bioactive PCL-PVA + PL membranes are cytocompatible and hemocompatible. A spatially compartmented co-culture of three cell types involved in wound healing - keratinocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells - is used for cytocompatibility studies. PCL-PVA + PL membranes enhance the proliferation of all cell types and increase the migration of both fibroblasts and endothelial cells. The membranes are also hemocompatible without any deleterious effect for thrombogenicity, hemolysis and coagulation. Thus, the beneficial effect of the PCL-PVA + PL membrane is demonstrated in vitro, making it a promising scaffold for the treatment of chronic wounds.

Abstract
The research on tissue engineering applications has been progressing to manufacture ideal tissue scaffold biomaterials. In this study, a double-layered electrospun biofiber scaffold biomaterial including Polycaprolactone (PCL)/Collagen (COL) fibrous inner layer and PCL/ Momordica charantia (MC) and Hypericum perforatum (HP) oils fibrous outer layer was developed to manufacture a functional, novel tissue scaffold with the advantageous mechanical and biological properties. The main approach was to combine the natural perspective using medicinal oils with an engineering point of view to fabricate a potential functional scaffold for tissue engineering. Medicinal plants MC and HP are rich in functional oils and incorporation of them in a tissue scaffold will unveil their potential to augment both new tissue formation and wound healing. In this study, a novel double-layered scaffold prototype was fabricated using electrospinning technique with two PCL fiber layers, first is composed of collagen, and second is composed of oils extracted from medicinal plants. Initially, the composition of plant oils was analyzed. Thereafter the biofiber scaffold layers were fabricated and were evaluated in terms of morphology, physicochemistry, thermal and mechanical features, wettability, in vitro bio-degradability. Double-layered scaffold prototype was further analyzed in terms of in vitro biocompatibility and antibacterial effect. The medicinal oils blend provided antioxidant and antibacterial properties to the novel PCL/Oils layer. The results signify that inner PCL/COL layer exhibited advanced biodegradability of 8.5% compared to PCL and enhanced wettability with 11.7° contact angle. Strength of scaffold prototype was 5.98 N/mm2 thanks to the elastic PCL fibrous matrix. The double-layered functional biofiber scaffold enabled 92% viability after 72 h contact with fibroblast cells and furthermore provided feasible attachment sites for the cells. The functional scaffold prototype's noteworthy mechanical, chemical, and biological features enable it to be suggested as a different novel biomaterial with the potential to be utilized in tissue engineering applications.

Abstract
Wound healing is a complex biological process with four main phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Current treatments such as cotton and gauze may delay the wound healing process which gives a demand for more innovative treatments. Nanofibers are nanoparticles that resemble the extracellular matrix of the skin and have a large specific surface area, high porosity, good mechanical properties, controllable morphology, and size. Nanofibers are generated by electrospinning method that utilizes high electric force. Electrospinning device composed of high voltage power source, syringe that contains polymer solution, needle, and collector to collect nanofibers. Many polymers can be used in nanofiber that can be from natural or from synthetic origin. As such, electrospun nanofibers are potential scaffolds for wound healing applications. This review discusses the advanced electrospun nanofiber morphologies used in wound healing that is prepared by modified electrospinning techniques.

Abstract
Innovation in biomedical science is always a field of interest for researchers. Drug delivery, being one of the key areas of biomedical science, has gained considerable significance. The utilization of simple yet effective techniques such as electrospinning has undergone significant development in the field of drug delivery. Various polymers such as PEG (polyethylene glycol), PLGA (Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)), PLA(Polylactic acid), and PCA (poly(methacrylate citric acid)) have been utilized to prepare electrospinning-based drug delivery systems (DDSs). Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has recently gained attention because of its biocompatibility, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and ideal mechanical properties as these are the key factors in developing DDSs. Moreover, it has shown promising results in developing DDSs individually and when combined with natural and synthetic polymers such as chitosan and polycaprolactone (PCL). Considering the outstanding properties of PVA, the aim of this review paper was therefore to summarize these recent advances by highlighting the potential of electrospun PVA for drug delivery systems.

Abstract
The regeneration of cutaneous tissue is one of the most challenging issues in human regenerative medicine. To date, several studies have been done to promote cutaneous tissue healing with minimum side effects. The healing potential of polyurethane (PU)/Poly (caprolactone)-poly (ethylene glycol)-poly (caprolactone) (PCEC)/chitosan (CS) (PCS) nanofibrous mat with cationic photosensitizer meso tetrakis (N-methyl pyridinium-4-yl) porphyrin tetratosylate salt (TMP) was examined. The CS tripolyphosphate nanoparticles (CSNPs) were prepared and loaded by TMP to provide an efficient drug release system (TMPNPs) for delivery of TMP to promote wound healing. In in vitro setting, parameters such as bactericidal effects, cytocompatibility, and hemolytic effects were examined. The healing potential of prepared nanofibrous mats was investigated in a rat model of full-thickness cutaneous injury. PCS/TMP/TMPNPs nanofibers can efficiently release porphyrin in the aqueous phase. The addition of TMPNPs and CS to the PU backbone increased the hydrophilicity, degradation, and reduced mechanical properties. The culture of human fetal foreskin fibroblasts (HFFF2) on PCS/TMP/TMPNPs scaffold led to an increased survival rate and morphological adaptation analyzed by MTT and SEM images. Irradiation with a red laser (635 nm, 3 J/cm2) for the 30 s reduced viability of S. aureus and E. Coli bacteria plated on PCS/TMP and PCS/TMP/TMPNPs nanofibrous mats compared to PU/PCEC (PC) and PU/PCEC/CS (PCS) groups, indicating prominent antibacterial effects of PCS/TMP and PCS/TMP/TMPNPs nanofibrous (p < 0.05). Data indicated that PCS/TMP/TMPNPs mat enhanced healing of the full-thickness excisional wound in a rat model by the reduction of inflammatory response and fibrotic changes compared to the PC, and PCS groups (p < 0.05). Immunofluorescence imaging indicated that levels of Desmoglein were increased in rats that received PCS/TMP/TMPNPs compared to the other groups. It is found that a PU-based nanofibrous mat is an appropriate scaffold to accelerate the healing of injured skin.

Abstract
Electrospun nanofiber mats are nowadays often used for biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as wound healing or tissue engineering. While most studies concentrate on their chemical and biochemical properties, the physical properties are often measured without long explanations regarding the chosen methods. Here, we give an overview of typical measurements of topological features such as porosity, pore size, fiber diameter and orientation, hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties and water uptake, mechanical and electrical properties as well as water vapor and air permeability. Besides describing typically used methods with potential modifications, we suggest some low-cost methods as alternatives in cases where special equipment is not available.

Abstract
Herbal medicine has a long history of medical efficacy with low toxicity, side effects and good biocompatibility. However, the bioavailability of the extract of raw herbs and bioactive compounds is poor because of their low water solubility. In order to overcome the solubility issues, electrospinning technology can offer a delivery alternative to resolve them. The electrospun fibers have the advantages of high specific surface area, high porosity, excellent mechanical strength and flexible structures. At the same time, various natural and synthetic polymer-bound fibers can mimic extracellular matrix applications in different medical fields. In this paper, the development of electrospinning technology and polymers used for incorporating herbal medicine into electrospun nanofibers are reviewed. Finally, the recent progress of the applications of these herbal medicine nanofibers in biomedical (drug delivery, wound dressing, tissue engineering) and food fields along with their future prospects is discussed.

Abstract
A simple and green approach was developed to produce novel highly fluorescent bovine serum albumin carbon dots (BCDs) via facile one-step hydrothermal treatment, using bovine serum albumin as a precursor carbon source. Inherent blue photoluminescence of the synthesized BCDs provided a maximum photostability of 90.5 ± 1.2% and was characterized via TEM, FT-IR, XPS, XRD, UV-visible, and zeta potential analyses. By virtue of their extremely small size, intrinsic optical and photoluminescence properties, superior photostability, and useful non-covalent interactions with the synthetic oxazolidinone antibiotic linezolid (LNZ), BCDs were investigated as fluorescent nano-biocarriers for LNZ drug delivery. The release profile of LNZ from the drug delivery system (LNZ-BCDs) revealed a distinct biphasic release, which is beneficial for mollifying the lethal incidents associated with wound infection. The effective wound healing performance of the developed LNZ-BCDs were evaluated through various in vitro and ex vivo assays such as MTT, ex vivo hemolysis, in vitro antibacterial activity, in vitro skin-related enzyme inhibition, and scratch wound healing assays. The examination of LNZ-BCDs as an efficient wound healing biomaterial illustrated excellent biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity against normal human skin fibroblast (HSF) cell line, indicating distinct antibacterial activity against the most common wound infectious pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC® 25922) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, robust anti-elastase, anti-collagenase, and anti-tyrosinase activities, and enhanced cell proliferation and migration effect. The obtained results confirmed the feasibility of using the newly designed fluorescent LNZ-BCDs nano-bioconjugate as a unique antibacterial biomaterial for effective wound healing and tissue regeneration. Besides, the greenly synthesized BCDs could be considered as a great potential substitute for toxic nanoparticles in biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility and intense fluorescence characteristics and in pharmaceutical industries as promising drug delivery nano-biocarriers for effective wound healing applications.

Abstract
Simple Summary Currently, bone defects, diseases, and injuries are common and global problems. These defects can be treated with several surgical methods and bone grafting, but these methods have limitations, including immune disorders, risk of infection, long-term recovery, movement problems, and high costs. A promising treatment option for bone replacement is the design and construction of scaffolds that mimic the properties of bone tissue and provide a suitable environment for cell and tissue growth. Achieving successful results in this method is dependent on the composition and structure of materials used as scaffolds. Bone is a composite consisting of a mineral fraction, mainly a combination of calcium phosphate, and an organic matrix. Here, we designed and produced a porous, non-toxic, and degradable scaffold made of alginate natural polymer and bioactive glass that contains strontium as well as the common elements of bioglasses—silica, calcium, sodium, and phosphorus. The scaffold is degraded at an optimized rate with the simultaneous proliferation and growth of cells, thus providing a suitable environment for the growth and development of new tissue and blood vessels. The outcomes of this study presented this scaffold as a functional structure to be used in treating bone defects and reconstructing damaged bone. Abstract The main aim of the current study is to fabricate an osteocompatible, bioactive, porous, and degradable bone tissue engineering scaffold. For this purpose, bioactive glasses (BGs) were chosen due to their similarity to bone’s natural mineral composition, and the effect of replacing Ca ions with Sr on their properties were considered. First, strontium-containing BGs (Sr-BGs) were synthesized using the electrospinning technique and assembled by the sol–gel method, then they were incorporated into the alginate (Alg) matrix. Photographs of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed that the BG nanofibers have a diameter of 220 ± 36 nm, which was smaller than the precursor nanofibers (275 ± 66 nm). The scaffolds possess a porous internal microstructure (230–330 nm pore size) with interconnected pores. We demonstrated that the scaffolds could be degraded in the acetate sodium buffer and phosphate-buffered saline. The osteoactivity of the scaffolds was confirmed via visual inspection of the SEM illustrations after seven days of immersing them in the SBF solution. In vitro assessments disclosed that the produced Alg-based composites including Sr-BGs (Alg/Sr-BGs) are blood-compatible and biocompatible. Accumulating evidence shows that Alg/Sr-BG (5%, 10%, and 15%) hydrogels could be a promising scaffold for bone regeneration.

Biaxial electrospun nanofibers based on chitosan-poly (vinyl alcohol) and poly (Ɛ-caprolactone) modified with CeAlO 3 nanoparticles as potential wound dressing materials. Int J Biol Macromol 2022; 221:736-750. Abstract
A two-nozzle electrospinning method was employed to fabricate hybrid nanofibers based on chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (CS/PVA), with a ratio of 50:50, and poly (Ɛ-caprolactone) (PCL). CeAlO3 nanoparticles were synthesized by combustion method and utilized to improve the nanofiber's properties for wound dressing application. Cephalexin (CFX), as an antibiotic model, was also incorporated into the hydrophilic nanofibers. X-ray diffraction showed an increase in crystallinity when CeAlO3-NPs were present in the nanofibers. Water vapor transmission rates in the samples were calculated as 2201-2627 g m-2 day-1, all within the normal range of ideal wound dressings. Mechanical studies revealed a 43 % and 85 % increase in tensile strength and modulus when CeAlO3-NPs were incorporated. In vitro drug release tests were conducted to simulate drug release, and the neat fibers showed faster release than the modified fibers. The MTT assay and cell morphology experiments showed that CeAlO3-NPs did not affect the nanofiber's biocompatibility and fibroblast cells could better grow, differentiate and cover the prepared hybrid scaffold surface compared to the neat fibers. Taking the results of our study into account, we believe the prepared nanofibrous has the potential for use as a low-cost, effective wound dressing.

Abstract
The healing of wounds is a dynamic function that necessitates coordination among multiple cell types and an optimal extracellular milieu. Much of the research focused on finding new techniques to improve and manage dermal injuries, chronic injuries, burn injuries, and sepsis, which are frequent medical concerns. A new research strategy involves developing multifunctional dressings to aid innate healing and combat numerous issues that trouble incompletely healed injuries, such as extreme inflammation, ischemic damage, scarring, and wound infection. Natural origin-based compounds offer distinct characteristics, such as excellent biocompatibility, cost-effectiveness, and low toxicity. Researchers have developed biopolymer-based wound dressings with drugs, biomacromolecules, and cells that are cytocompatible, hemostatic, initiate skin rejuvenation and rapid healing, and possess anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. The main goal would be to mimic characteristics of fetal tissue regeneration in the adult healing phase, including complete hair and glandular restoration without delay or scarring. Emerging treatments based on biomaterials, nanoparticles, and biomimetic proteases have the keys to improving wound care and will be a vital addition to the therapeutic toolkit for slow-healing wounds. This study focuses on recent discoveries of several dressings that have undergone extensive pre-clinical development or are now undergoing fundamental research.

Abstract
In the current paper, we fabricated, characterized, and applied nanocomposite hydrogel based on alginate (Alg) and nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) loaded with phenolic purified extracts from the aerial part of Linum usitatissimum (LOH) as the bone tissue engineering scaffold. nHA was synthesized based on the wet chemical technique/precipitation reaction and incorporated into Alg hydrogel as the filler via physical cross-linking. The characterizations (SEM, DLS, and Zeta potential) revealed that the synthesized nHA possess a plate-like shape with nanometric dimensions. The fabricated nanocomposite has a porous architecture with interconnected pores. The average pore size was in the range of 100–200 µm and the porosity range of 80–90%. The LOH release measurement showed that about 90% of the loaded drug was released within 12 h followed by a sustained release over 48 h. The in vitro assessments showed that the nanocomposite possesses significant antioxidant activity promoting bone regeneration. The hemolysis induction measurement showed that the nanocomposites were hemocompatible with negligible hemolysis induction. The cell viability/proliferation confirmed the biocompatibility of the nanocomposites, which induced proliferative effects in a dose-dependent manner. This study revealed the fabricated nanocomposites are bioactive and osteoactive applicable for bone tissue engineering applications.
