Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of life (QoL) is a common indicator of outcomes in people living with diabetes, but the concept of diabetes-related QoL (DRQoL) remains unclear. Clarifying core knowledge of DRQoL was the goal of this paper. METHODS A concept analysis was conducted according to Walker and Avant's framework. A systematic search of the published literature was conducted between 2002 and 2022 based on resource availability, current relevancy, and the quality of recent studies. Three major databases were used to identify the attributes, antecedents, consequences, and measures for DRQoL. Only articles investigating DRQoL among adult or elderly people living with diabetes that were published in English in peer-reviewed journals were analyzed. RESULTS In total, 4342 articles were screened, and only 401 articles underwent eligibility assessment. A total of 183 articles were included in the analysis. Most (59.78%) of them were observational studies and DRQoL as a primary outcome. We identified four critical components of DRQoL: (a) general health, (b) diabetes-related satisfaction, (c) diabetes impact, and (d) diabetes self-management. The antecedents were classified according to their contributions to DRQoL as follows: 25 positive-induced, 4 neutral-based, and 19 negative-induced antecedents. The consequences of DRQoL were mortality risk, personal health, satisfaction with health care, hospitalization risk, and failure to return to work. The referents varied widely, and 32 tools were found for DRQoL measurement. Furthermore, 12 scales for disease-specific DRQoL and 17 tools for general QoL were identified. CONCLUSION This paper provides a definition of DRQoL as well as its attributes, antecedents, consequences, and measures in adults with diabetes. The attributes of DRQoL included general health, diabetes-related satisfaction, diabetes impact, and diabetes self-management. A comprehensive understanding of DRQoL can improve the quality of care and can aid in the recognition of the needs of care among people living with diabetes.

Abstract
Background Our objective was to assess the effect of a hybrid telemedicine approach, in conjunction with face-to-face follow-up, on the quality of life in recent users of an advanced hybrid closed-loop (AHCL) system. Methods A 1-year open randomized (1:1) clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov ID NCT04900636). Participants with type 1 diabetes (T1D) recent users of an AHCL system (Minimed® 780G) for at least 2-6 months, and ⩾18 years old were eligible. The primary outcome was the change in quality of life measured by the Type 1 Diabetes Life (ViDa1) Questionnaire from baseline to 12 months of hybrid telemedicine plus face-to-face follow-up compared to standard clinical practice. Additionally, impacts on A1c levels, glucose metrics, advert events, and safety outcomes were assessed. Results Between January and December 2021, 46 participants were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the hybrid telemedicine group (n = 23) or the control group (n = 23); 45 participants completed the study, with only 1 from the control group withdrawing before visit 3. At baseline, mean age was 37 ± 15 years and A1c was 6.9 ± 0.5%. After 12 months, no statistically significant differences in ViDa1 scores between groups were observed. Despite reducing in-person visits in the hybrid follow-up arm, there were no increases in adverse events. Overall, A1c levels significantly decreased from 6.9 ± 0.5% at baseline to 6.7 ± 0.5% after 12 months (P = 0.006) without differences between treatment arms, accompanied by reductions in glycemic variability and time below the target range. Conclusion Our study suggests that there were no significant differences in ViDa1 scores between the two groups at the end of the follow-up. However, among adult patients with T1D who recently adopted an AHCL system, satisfactory glycemic control can be attained through a hybrid follow-up approach, reducing face-to-face visits, without increasing technical complications.

Abstract
PURPOSE Preexisting type 1 diabetes is a stressful situation for women in pregnancy. We aimed to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) during pregnancy in women with type 1 diabetes and examine the association between HRQoL and pregnancy outcomes. METHODS This multicenter prospective cohort study involved 115 pregnant women with type 1 diabetes from 11 participating centers in China. HRQoL was investigated in three trimesters using European Quality-of-life 5-Dimension 5-Level questionnaire (EQ-5D-5 L). Chinese time trade-off value method was used to calculate the EQ-5D-5 L score. Multivariable logistic regression model was used to evaluate the effect of HRQoL on maternal and neonatal outcomes. Receiver operating characteristic curves and distribution-based methods were employed to estimate minimally important differences of clinically important decline in HRQoL. RESULTS 50.43% of the studied women with type 1 diabetes reported impaired HRQoL in pregnancy. Estimated maternal HRQoL significantly decreased from early to mid-pregnancy (mean EQ-5D-5 L score 0.97 in the first trimester and 0.91 in the second trimester) and improved slightly in late pregnancy (mean EQ-5D-5 L score 0.95). Multivariable regression model showed that women who experienced impaired HRQoL in pregnancy had higher risk of hypertensive disorder, preterm birth, and composite pregnancy outcome. The estimated minimally important difference for composite pregnancy outcome was -0.045 to -0.043. CONCLUSIONS Experiencing impaired HRQoL during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of hypertensive disorder and preterm birth in women with type 1 diabetes. The estimated minimally important difference of EQ-5D-5 L might serve as a clinically important tool in prenatal care. TRIAL REGISTRATION No.ChiCTR1900025955.

Abstract
(1) Background: Having type 1 diabetes during emerging adulthood can impact quality of life due to the challenge of balancing optimal glycemic blood levels with a period of transition and exploration. The purpose of this study was to characterize the quality of life of emerging adults aged 18 to 29 years with type 1 diabetes and to determine the associations between dimensions of Health-Related Quality of Life in type 1 diabetes and sociodemographic and diabetes-related variables. (2) Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in Andalusia, Spain, from October 2021 to July 2022. A total of 362 emerging adults with type 1 diabetes (67.4% women, mean age 22.8 ± 3.4 years) participated. Data were gathered via sociodemographic information form and the ViDa1 scale. Statistical evaluations, encompassing descriptive analyses, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and logistic regression, were conducted using SPSSv26, adhering to STROBE guidelines. (3) Results: Among the participants, 52.1% have a glycosylated hemoglobin level over 7%. Interference with Life is correlated with sex, age, and age at diagnosis, with age being the only predictor. Self-Care is correlated with and predicted by glycosylated hemoglobin levels. Well-being is correlated with and predicted by sex, Body Mass Index, and glycosylated hemoglobin levels. Concern about the Condition is correlated with and predicted by sex and glycosylated hemoglobin levels. (4) Conclusions: Despite concerns about their disease, participants generally maintain optimal levels of Health-Related Quality of Life in type 1 diabetes. Predictive factors for Health-Related Quality of Life in type 1 diabetes in this group include sex, age, Body Mass Index, and glycosylated hemoglobin.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The burden of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in China is increasing, with potential impacts on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of those who develop the disease. Context-specific assessment of HRQoL and its associated factors informs the development of contextually appropriate interventions to improve HRQoL. This study aimed to determine the HRQoL and its associated factors in people with T2DM at a tertiary care clinic in Ningbo, China. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was undertaken among 406 people with T2DM in 2020-21. The primary outcome was HRQoL measured using EQ VAS and EQ-5D index from the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire. Multivariable regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with HRQoL scores. RESULTS The mean (± standard deviation) EQ VAS score was 68.7 (13.8). Median (interquartile range) EQ-5D index was 1 (0.027). Prevalence of problems in HRQoL domains was as follows: pain/discomfort (15.7%), anxiety/depression (13.3%), mobility (5.4%), self-care (3.5%) and managing usual activities (5.2%). The ≥60 years age group had a mean EQ VAS score 8.7 points higher (95% CI 3.4, 13.9; p < .001) than the 18-39 years age group. Those with T2DM >10 years had a mean EQ VAS score 8.6 points lower than those with a duration <1 year (-12.8, -4.4; p = .001). A T2DM duration >10 years was associated with a reduction in the EQ-5D index of 0.029 (-0.041, -0.016; p < .001) compared with a duration <1 year. CONCLUSIONS Depression/anxiety and pain/discomfort are important domains of reduced HRQoL for this population. A longer duration of T2DM is associated with reduced HRQoL scores, including both EQ VAS and EQ-5D index. Increasing age may be counterintuitively associated with an increase in EQ VAS score in this population, potentially reflecting a 'paradox of aging' process. Future work should focus on developing, evaluating and implementing interventions to improve HRQoL in T2DM, such as strategies to manage pain and mental health conditions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Incarcerated populations represent a vulnerable and marginalised segment of society, with increased health needs and a higher burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Traditional population health outcomes do not capture physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes attempt to measure these important parameters. To date, there has not been a scoping review to summarise the HRQoL literature in the incarcerated population. Thus, we aim to perform such a review to inform health policy decisions in incarcerated populations and support health economic evaluations of interventions in incarcerated populations. METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will conduct a scoping review of the literature on the HRQoL in the incarcerated population informed by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and the corresponding PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. The submissions records of six electronic databases with peer-reviewed literature and three health technology assessment agencies will be searched. The search strategy was informed by recommendations for HRQoL reviews. We will include studies that report HRQoL, health state utility values or reference to quality adjusted life years or quality-adjusted life expectancies of incarcerated populations. No assessments of items' quality will be made, as the purpose of this scoping review is to synthesise and describe the coverage of the evidence. We will also identify knowledge gaps on the HRQoL in the incarcerated population. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Research ethics approval is not required as primary data will not be collected. The findings of this scoping review will be used to inform health economic analyses for the incarcerated population and will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Abstract
Background One of key current social trends is the increasing number of single people. It has multiple implications as single individuals often live and behave differently than those living in relationships. Marital status and socioeconomic status may also be significant quality of life factors for single persons. The aim of this study is to identify relationships between quality of life and selected indicators of socioeconomic status in single and married respondents from the Wrocław metropolitan area in Poland. Methods 4460 respondents took part in the study (1828 single, 2632 married). The study was cross-sectional based on a diagnostic survey. Data was gathered on respondents’ sex, age, education, marital status, occupational status and financial situation as well as their quality of life and perceived health condition. Frequencies (f) and relative frequencies (rf) of categories of dependent and independent variables were determined. The chi-squared test (χ2) and odds ratio (OR) statistics were applied. The level of statistical significance was set at α = .05.
Results A stochastic dependence (p ≤ .05) between marital status and perceived health condition and quality of life in the social domain was found among the respondents. Male sex, higher education, being an entrepreneur, college student or white-collar worker, and good financial status were associated with the highest assessments of quality of life and perceived health condition. The directions of quality of life modifications determined by socioeconomic status were similar in single and married urban respondents; however, the strength of these modifications was greater in the latter. Conclusions It is recommended to target respondents with public health programs aimed at lifestyle improvement, tailored to the needs of single and married individuals. Public policies directed at improving education and material situation of respondents are also worth considering, as they may be essential for modeling their quality of life. In addition, research on quality of life should be continued, which is particularly relevant in a pandemic situation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) impacts health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Cross-sectional studies suggest that low levels of vitamin D (VD) may impair HRQoL, however, the effect of VD supplementation on quality of life in T1DM patients has not yet been clarified. Our study evaluated the effects of high-dose VD supplementation on HRQoL in T1DM. METHODS We performed a prospective study with 64 patients receiving cholecalciferol (4000 IU/day for patients with 25-OH-vitamin D [25(OH)D] between 30 and 60 ng/mL, and 10,000 IU/day for those with 25(OH)D below 30 ng/mL) for 12 weeks, as part of a research protocol. HRQoL was assessed with EuroQol instruments (EQ-5D and EQ-VAS). RESULTS There was an improvement in global EQ-5D index, and analysing specifically the EQ-5D domains, we observed an improvement in mobility (1.3 ± 0.6 versus 1.1 ± 0.3, p < 0.01). Evaluating possible outcome influencing variables, we detected a reduction in albuminuria at the end of the trial, without changes in BMI, lipids, blood pressure, glycemic control and insulin doses. We found correlations between final albuminuria and the dimensions: mobility (r = 0.6; p < 0.01), personal care (r = 0.7; p < 0.01), pain and discomfort (r = 0.6; p < 0.01) and habitual activities (r = 0.6; p < 0.01), suggesting an association between albuminuria reduction and the impact of VD supplementation on HRQoL. CONCLUSION Our data showed that high doses of cholecalciferol supplementation can improve HRQoL in patients with T1DM, and the reduction of albuminuria seems to be an important factor in this context. Abstract
This article describes a cross-sectional study involving 401 adults with type 1 diabetes treated with insulin glargine in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Health-related quality of life was assessed, and worse scores were found to be associated with a low level of education, self-perceived health reported as poor/very poor, being bedridden and not physically exercised, having seen a doctor more than four times in the past year, and having reported comorbidities and episodes of hypoglycemia.

Abstract
Abstract
Objectives
The study aim was to identify key factors associated with the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) treated with neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin or human insulin analog glargine (IGLA).
Methods
We conducted two cross-sectional studies in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. One with 401 patients treated with IGLA, and the other with 179 T1DM patients treated with NPH. HRQOL was measured by Euroqol (EQ-5D-3L).
Key findings
Most participants were male (51%), aged between 18 and 40 years (47%), non-black (58%) and from the highest economic strata (A1-B2) (74%). Participants perceived their health as good/very good (51%), had one to three medical consultations in the previous year (51%), were not hospitalized in the previous year (74%), did not report angina (96%), diabetic neuropathy (90%), hearing loss (94%) or kidney disease (89%). Non-severe hypoglycaemia episodes in the last 30 days were reported by 17% of participants.
Conclusions
Higher HRQOL was associated with younger age (18–40 years), good/very good health self-perception, having had up to three medical consultations in the last year, not being hospitalized in the last year, having none to three comorbidities, not reporting angina, diabetic neuropathy, hearing loss or kidney disease and having had episodes of non-severe hypoglycaemia. In addition, the findings of our study demonstrated inequalities in access to treatment, which will be the subject of future research projects.

Abstract
AIMS The MiniMed 670 G insulin pump system is the first commercially available hybrid closed-loop (HCL) insulin delivery system and clinical studies have shown that this device is associated with incremental benefits in glycemic control relative to continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) with or without continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). The aim was to evaluate the long-term cost-effectiveness of the MiniMed 670 G system versus CSII alone in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the UK. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cost-effectiveness analysis was performed using the IQVIA CORE Diabetes Model. Clinical input data were sourced from a clinical trial of the MiniMed 670 G system in 124 adults and adolescents with T1D. The analysis was performed over a lifetime time horizon and both future costs and clinical outcomes were discounted at 3.5% per annum. The analysis was performed from a healthcare payer perspective. RESULTS The use of the MiniMed 670 G system led to an improvement in quality-adjusted life expectancy of 1.73 quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), relative to CSII. Total lifetime direct costs were GBP 35,425 higher with the MiniMed 670 G system than with CSII resulting in an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of GBP 20,421 per QALY gained. Sensitivity analyses revealed that the ICER was sensitive to assumptions around glycemic control and assumptions relating to the quality-of-life benefit associated with a reduction in fear of hypoglycemia. LIMITATIONS Long-term projections from short-term data are inherently associated with uncertainty but represent arguably the best available evidence in lieu of long-term clinical trials. CONCLUSIONS In the UK, over patient lifetimes, the incremental clinical benefits associated with the use of MiniMed 670 G system means that it is likely to be cost-effective relative to the continued use of CSII in people with T1D, particularly for those with a fear of hypoglycemia or poor baseline glycemic control.

Abstract
Health related quality of life (HRQoL) is a subjective appreciation of how personal characteristics and health influence well-being. This cross-sectional analysis aimed to quantitatively measure the influence of dietary, lifestyle, and demographic factors on HRQoL. A sub-sample of the Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra (SUN) Project, a Mediterranean cohort, was analyzed (n = 15,674). Through self-administered questionnaires the relationship between HRQoL and dietary patterns (Mediterranean-diet (MedDiet) and provegetarian food pattern (FP) assessment), lifestyles (sleeping hours, physical activity) and demographic characteristics were measured. Multivariate linear regression and flexible regression models were used to estimate the pondered effect of personal factors on Short Form-36 (SF-36) scores. Coefficients for MedDiet and provegetarian scores (β-coefficient for global SF-36 score: 0.32 (0.22, 0.42); 0.09 (0.06, 0.12) respectively for every unit increase), physical activity (β: 0.03 (0.02, 0.03) for every metabolic equivalent of task indexes (MET)-h/week) had a positive association to HRQoL. The female sex (β: −3.28 (−3.68, −2.89)), and pre-existing diseases (diabetes, β: −2.27 (−3.48, −1.06), hypertension β: −1.79 (−2.36, −1.22), hypercholesterolemia β: −1.04 (−1.48, −0.59)) account for lower SF-36 scores. Adherence to MedDiet or provegetarian FP, physical activity and sleep are associated with higher HRQoL, whereas the female sex, “other” (versus married status) and the presence of chronic diseases were associated with lower SF-36 scores in this sample.

Abstract
Across the lifespan, type 1 diabetes mellitus has a profound (neuro)psychological impact. In young people, type 1 diabetes can interfere with psychosocial development and hamper school performance. In adulthood, it can interfere with work life, relationships and parenting. A substantial minority of adults with type 1 diabetes experience coping difficulties and high diabetes-related distress. In youth and adulthood, type 1 diabetes is related to mild cognitive decrements as well as affective disorders, such as depression and anxiety. There is limited literature available that explores the interaction between cognitive and psychological comorbidity and underlying mechanisms. The aims of the present narrative review were to summarize the current state of the literature regarding both cognitive and psychological comorbidities in type 1 diabetes across the lifespan, and to explore potential links between the two domains of interest to make suggestions for future research and clinical practice.
