Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe pregnancy complication associated with endothelial dysfunction. Soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) is a biomarker of endothelial injury, but its role in PE remains unclear. Although previous studies suggest elevated sTM levels in PE, inconsistencies in study designs and diagnostic criteria have led to conflicting findings. Our study addresses this gap through a systematic review and meta-analysis using standardized effect sizes and predefined severity groups to clarify the association between sTM and PE. This review followed the Cochrane Handbook and PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023456919). A comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science for observational studies evaluating sTM levels in PE and normotensive controls. Eligible studies included case-control and cohort designs measuring sTM in plasma or serum. Two reviewers independently conducted data extraction and risk of bias assessment (Newcastle-Ottawa Scale). A random-effects meta-analysis estimated the Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) and 95 % confidence intervals (CI). Of 285 screened studies, 26 met inclusion criteria, and 20 were included in the meta-analysis. sTM levels were significantly higher in PE (SMD = 0.91, 95 % CI 0.3 to 1.53; I2 = 94 %) with greater elevation in severe PE (SMD: 0.86, 95 % CI 0.55 to 1.16; I2 = 50 %) than mild PE (SMD: 0.57, 95 % CI 0.08 to 1.06; I2 = 82 %). High heterogeneity was observed, likely due to variations in inclusion criteria, measurement techniques, and diagnostic definitions. These findings support the potential of sTM as a biomarker for assessing PE severity. However, its clinical use remains limited by methodological heterogeneity and lack of standardized cutoff values. Further prospective studies are needed to validate its diagnostic and prognostic value and to enable its integration into clinical practice.

Abstract
Increased levels of soluble endoglin (sEng) are found in serum, plasma, and urine of preeclampsia patients. sEng is released from membrane-bound endoglin through the proteolytic activity of metalloproteases, but its structural heterogeneity suggests the involvement of additional proteases. Considering the roles of thrombin and sEng in preeclampsia pathogenesis, we investigated whether thrombin cleaves endoglin. Sequence analysis revealed a conserved peptide in endoglin similar to the α-thrombin cleavage site of protease-activated receptor-1. Western blot analysis of plasma from preeclamptic women showed endoglin fragments consistent with thrombin-mediated cleavage. Incubation of purified endoglin with thrombin generated specific fragments, whose N- and C-terminal sequencing confirmed the predicted cleavage sites. Furthermore, thrombin treatment of endoglin-expressing cells released sEng and reduced cell surface endoglin. These findings suggest that multiple protease-targeted cleavage sites lead to the generation of sEng fragments, which may reflect endothelial dysfunction and preeclampsia progression.

Abstract
C-X3-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CX3CL1), commonly known as Fractalkine, is an important chemokine with dual functions of chemotaxis and adhesion. It plays a pivotal role in a variety of physiological processes and pathological conditions, particularly in conjunction with its receptor, C-X3-C motif chemokine receptor 1 (CX3CR1). This review focuses on the expression and intricate regulatory mechanisms of CX3CL1 at the maternal-fetal interface, emphasizing its multifaceted role during pregnancy. CX3CL1 was detected in the trophoblast and decidua tissues, playing a crucial role in recruitment of immune cells, enhancing endometrial receptivity, and modulating trophoblast cell activities. Abnormal expression of CX3CL1 has been correlated with adverse pregnancy outcomes such as spontaneous abortion, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and preterm births. By elucidating the complex interplay of CX3CL1 at the maternal-fetal interface, this review aims to shed light on its potential roles in pregnancy-related complications.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Preeclampsia is associated with maternal inflammatory overreaction and imbalanced immunity at the mother-fetus interface. The pro-inflammatory chemokine fractalkine (CX3CL1) is recently recognized apart from imbalanced immunity. In this study, CX3CL1- CX3C chemokine receptor 1(CX3CR1) regulation of decidual macrophage function and trophoblast invasion ability in preeclampsia was initially explored. METHODS The study comprised 60 women allocated to NP group (normotensive pregnant woman, n = 30) and sPE group (woman with severe preeclampsia, n = 30). After the delivery, the expression of CX3CL1 in placental tissues of the two groups was detected by immunohistochemical analysis. The protein level of CX3CL1 in placental tissue and CX3CR1 in decidua tissue was detected by Western Blot and the localization of CX3CR1 expression in decidua was detected by immunofluorescence. Macrophages were polarized into classically activated (M1) macrophages. M1 were treat with PBS (control group), recombinant human CX3CL1 (CX3CL1 group), recombinant human CX3CL1+ selective CX3CR1 antagonist-JMS-17-2 (CX3CL1+anti-CX3CR1 group) and recombinant human CX3CL1 + selective CX3CR1 antagonist-JMS-17-2 + VS-6063 (CX3CL1+anti-CX3CR1+ FAK inhibitor group). M1 and HTR8/SVneo cells were co-cultured as described previously to assess invasion and migration capacity by transwell assays and Wound-healing assay. RESULTS In this study, CX3CL1 expression is high in the placental tissues of severe preeclampsia (sPE) patients than in normotensive pregnancies (NP). CX3CR1 expression is high in the decidual tissues of severe preeclampsia patients and mainly expressed in macrophages of decidual tissues. CX3CL1/CX3CR1 decreased VEGF expression in M1 macrophages and reduced the invasion and migration function of HTR-8/SVneo through the FAK signaling pathway. DISCUSSION These findings revealed that CX3CL1-CX3CR1 regulate the trophoblast function by FAK and provided new insights into the pathogenesis of preeclampsia.

Abstract
Preeclampsia, a serious complication of pregnancy, involves intricate molecular and cellular mechanisms. Fetal microchimerism, where fetal cells persist within maternal tissues and in circulation, acts as a mechanistic link between placental dysfunction and maternal complications in the two-stage model of preeclampsia. Hormones, complements, and cytokines play pivotal roles in the pathophysiology, influencing immune responses, arterial remodeling, and endothelial function. Also, soluble HLA-G, involved in maternal-fetal immune tolerance, is reduced in preeclampsia. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (Hif-α) dysregulation leads to placental abnormalities and preeclampsia-like symptoms. Alterations in matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), endothelins (ETs), chemokines, and cytokines contribute to defective trophoblast invasion, endothelial dysfunction, and inflammation. Preeclampsia's genetic complexity includes circRNAs, miRNAs, and lncRNAs. CircRNA_06354 is linked to early-onset preeclampsia by influencing trophoblast invasion via the hsa-miR-92a-3p/VEGF-A pathway. The dysregulation of C19MC, especially miR-519d and miR-517-5p, affects trophoblast function. Additionally, lncRNAs like IGFBP1 and EGFR-AS1, along with protein-coding genes, impact trophoblast regulation and angiogenesis, influencing both preeclampsia and fetal growth. Besides aberrations in CD31+ cells, other potential biomarkers such as MMPs, soluble HLA-G, and hCG hold promise for predicting preeclampsia and its complications. Therapeutic interventions targeting factors such as peroxisome PPAR-γ and endothelin receptors show potential in mitigating preeclampsia-related complications. In conclusion, preeclampsia is a complex disorder with a multifactorial etiology and pathogenesis. Fetal microchimerism, hormones, complements, and cytokines contribute to placental and endothelial dysfunction with inflammation. Identifying novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets offers promise for early diagnosis and effective management, ultimately reducing maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. However, further research is warranted to translate these findings into clinical practice and enhance outcomes for at-risk women.

Abstract
Purpose Impaired angiogenesis is one of the most common findings in preeclamptic placentas. A new angiogenetic role of fractalkine (CX3CL1) is recently recognized apart from inflammatory activity. In this study, a link between CX3CL1 and the development of placental vasculature in preeclampsia was examined. Methods The study comprised 52 women allocated to Group 1 (normotensive, n = 23) and Group 2 (preeclampsia, n = 29). In each group Doppler parameters, serum levels of CX3CL1, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), and placental growth factor (PlGF) were assessed between 30 and 32 week of pregnancy. After the delivery, placental samples were taken and the vascularization and expression of CX3CR1 receptor were assessed after immunostaining. Results CX3CL1 and sFlt-1 serum levels were significantly higher levels in Group 2 vs Group 1, while PlGF serum levels was significantly lower in Group 2. Lower cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) was observed in Group 2. The vascular/extravascular tissue index (V/EVTI) was significantly lower in Group 2, while compared to Group 1, with the lowest value in the fetus growth restriction (FGR) subgroup (0.18 ± 0.02; 0.24 ± 0.03; 0.16 ± 0.02, respectively). The expression of examined CX3CR1 was higher in Group 2, while compared to Group 1, reaching the highest values in FGR subgroup. There was a moderate negative correlation between birth weight, V/EVTI and CX3CL1 serum level and CX3CR1 placental expression in the group of pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia. Conclusion The significant underdevelopment of placental vascular network in preeclampsia is associated with the change in the CX3CL1/CX3CR1 system, especially in FGR complicated pregnancies.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific complication characterized by hypertension in combination with proteinuria and/or various manifestations of multiple organ failure. It is believed that etiology of preeclampsia lies in dysfunction of the placenta and disorder of the maternal-fetal interactions. In preeclampsia decidual membrane, the maternal part of the placenta which normally supports immunological tolerance of the maternal organism to the semi-allogeneic fetus, becomes a site of inflammation. METHODS The aim of our study was to characterize the phenotype of decidual macrophages and plasma profiles in patients with late- and early-onset preeclampsia as compared with controls (n = 43). Decidual cells were obtained by enzymatic digestion method and characterized by flow cytometry analysis, real-time PCR, bioinformatics analysis, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot. Plasma samples were analyzed by multiplex assay. RESULTS The number of inflammation-associated CD86+ and CX3CR1+ cells was significantly higher in the early-onset preeclampsia while the portion of CD163+ cells was significantly higher among studied groups. We observed significant increase of endothelin-1 gene expression and a significant decrease in eNOS and GNB3 expression and TGFβ relative protein level in decidual cells of the early-onset preeclampsia samples. We also revealed elevation of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in plasma of preeclampsia groups. DISCUSSION Our findings reflect profound early-onset preeclampsia-associated alterations in the decidua and emphasize the importance of the decidua as a link in the development of preeclampsia.

Abstract
Changes to the maternal inflammatory milieu may be a mechanism through which maternal psychosocial stress is transmitted to the fetus. Research investigating a limited number of immune markers may miss important signals. We take a proteomics approach to investigate maternal lifetime stress and 92 biomarkers of immune system status. Participants were enrolled in an urban, dual-site (Boston, n = 301 and New York City, n = 110) pregnancy cohort. We measured maternal lifetime history of stress and trauma using the validated Life Stressor Checklist-Revised (LSC-R). We measured a panel of 92 immune-related proteins in mid-pregnancy serum using proximity extension assay technology. We leveraged the dual-site study design to perform variable selection and inference within the cohort. First, we used LASSO to select immune markers related to maternal stress among Boston mothers. Then, we performed OLS regression to examine associations between maternal stress and LASSO-selected proteins among New York City mothers. LASSO regression selected 19 immune proteins with non-null coefficients (CCL11, CCL23, CD244, CST5, CXCL1, CXCL5, CXCL10, CX3CL1, FGF-23, IL-5, IL-7, IL-10, IL-17C, MCP-2, MMP-1, SLAMF1, ST1A1, TNF-β, and TWEAK). Of these, only the chemotactic cytokine CX3CL1 (i.e. fractalkine) was significantly associated with maternal stress among the validation sample (percent change in LSC-R score per 1% increase in relative fractalkine expression: 0.74, 95% confidence interval: 0.19, 1.28). Expanding research suggests fractalkine plays an important role in many aspects of pregnancy and fetal development and is stress-sensitive. We found that maternal lifetime history of stress and trauma was significantly associated with elevated serum fractalkine levels during pregnancy.

Abstract
Preeclampsia, a hypertensive pregnancy disorder, links to increased long-term maternal cardiovascular disease (CVD). The risk is further increased with early-onset preeclampsia (EPE) and delivery of a growth-restricted child. We hypothesized that circulating biomarkers associated with CVD risk differed between preeclampsia subtypes and controls. We compared EPE; n=37, delivery <week 34, late-onset preeclampsia (LPE); n=29, delivery ≥week 34, and normotensive controls (n=49) using Olink Proseek multiplex CVD I assay (targeting 92 biomarkers). We stratified analysis to uteroplacental spiral artery acute atherosis presence in preeclampsia patients, sharing morphological similarities with atherosclerosis. We found 47 CVD-related biomarkers differing between the groups, 42 markers between normotensive controls and EPE, 28 markers between normotensive controls and LPE, and 9 markers between EPE and LPE. Among these 9 markers, ST2 (ST2 protein), MMP (matrix metalloproteinase) 1, MMP3, and fractalkine (CX3CL1) were uniquely dysregulated in EPE. Principal component (PC) analysis of the differing markers identified 4 clusters (named PC1-PC4) that largely separated the preeclampsia and control groups as well as pregnancies with low and high circulating PlGF (placental growth factor). The combination of the single markers PlGF, ST2, MMP1, MMP3, and CX3CL1 had a high discriminatory property to differentiate between EPE and LPE. Preeclampsia with acute atherosis or with fetal growth restriction could be differentiated by Olink biomarkers as compared with preeclampsia without these features. We identified specific CVD-related biomarkers in pregnancy depending on preeclampsia subtypes and uteroplacental acute atherosis. Assessment of these pregnancy measured biomarkers' relation to long-term cardiovascular dysfunction and hard end points is warranted.

Abstract
Introduction: Preeclampsia is a systemic inflammatory disorder and a major cause of maternal and fetal mortality. Fractalkine (CX3CL1) is a member of the chemokine family with multiple functions in the organization of the immune system. It is up-regulated in inflammatory disorders. During inflammation, fractalkine enhances tissue destruction and inflammatory cell invasion. We aimed to investigate the alteration of fractalkine in the placental tissues of pregnant women with preeclampsia and the correlation of this alteration with clinicopathological variables.Materials and methods: Alteration of fractalkine in placental tissue specimens was determined immunohistochemically in 84 pregnant women: 33 women with mild preeclampsia, 19 women with severe preeclampsia, and 30 women with normal pregnancy. Preeclampsia was diagnosed using current guidelines of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.Results: Pregnant women with mild and severe preeclampsia revealed significantly higher fractalkine expression in syncytiotrophoblast cells than in the normotensive group (p = .0051 and .0001, respectively). The expression of fractalkine in preeclampsia was positively correlated with clinical parameters including the presence of intrauterine growth restriction, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and 24-h urine protein, whereas it was negatively correlated with plasma albumin levels and placental weight. Additionally, the pathological changes in the placenta-including the presence of syncytiotrophoblast basement membrane thickening, increased number of syncytial knots, and vascularization of terminal villi were significantly correlated with fractalkine expression in pregnant women with preeclampsia.Conclusions: Overexpression of fractalkine in pregnant women with preeclampsia, as well as the correlation between fractalkine expression and poor pregnancy outcomes and placental histopathological changes may be associated with the underlying mechanisms of preeclampsia.

Abstract
Embryo implantation and subsequent placentation require a fine balanced fetal-maternal cross-talk of hormones, cytokines and chemokines. Amongst the group of chemokines, CX3CL1 (also known as fractalkine) has recently attracted attention in the field of reproductive research. It exists both as membrane-bound and soluble isoforms. On the basis of current experimental evidence, fractalkine is suggested to regulate adhesion and migration processes in fetal-maternal interaction at different stages of human pregnancy. Expressed by uterine glandular epithelial cells, predominantly during the mid-secretory phase of the menstrual cycle, fractalkine appears to prime the blastocyst for forthcoming implantation. After implantation, fractalkine is suggested to regulate invasion of extravillous trophoblasts by altering their expression profile of adhesion molecules. With onset of perfusion of the intervillous space at the end of first trimester, fractalkine present at the apical microvillous plasma membrane of the syncytiotrophoblast may mediate close interaction of placental villi with circulating maternal blood cells.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of preeclampsia (PE) includes the release of placental factors into the maternal circulation, inducing an inflammatory environment in the mother. One of the factors may be the proinflammatory chemokine fractalkine, which is expressed in the syncytiotrophoblast of human placenta, from where it is released into the maternal circulation by constitutive shedding. We examined whether placental fractalkine is up-regulated in severe early-onset PE and whether the proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and IL-6 are able to increase the expression of fractalkine. Gene expression analysis, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and immunohistochemistry consistently showed increased fractalkine expression in placentas from severe early-onset PE, compared to gestational age-matched controls. Expression of a disintegrin and metalloproteinases (ADAMs) 10 and 17, which convert transmembrane fractalkine into the soluble form, was significantly increased in these cases. Incubation of first-trimester placental explants with TNF-α provoked a significant increase in fractalkine expression and release of the soluble form, whereas IL-6 had no effect. TNF-α-mediated up-regulation of placental fractalkine was reversed in the presence of the aspirin-derivative salicylate, which impaired activation of NF-κB p65 in TNF-α-treated explants. On the basis of data from placental explants, we suggest that increased maternal TNF-α may up-regulate the expression and release of placental fractalkine, which, in turn, may contribute to an exaggerated systemic inflammatory response in PE.

Abstract
Preeclampsia is a frequent medical complication during pregnancy. Corin, a serine protease which activates pro-atrial natriuretic peptide, has recently been shown to be involved in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. The aim of this study was to search for CORIN gene variations and their association to preeclampsia in Caucasian and African women. Our study population was composed of 571 pregnant women (295 with preeclampsia and 276 normotensive controls) matched for maternal and gestational age, and ethnic origin. The 22 exons of the CORIN gene were sequenced in a discovery sample (n = 260), where 31 single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified. In a replication sample (n = 311), 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms were tested. Two minor alleles (C for rs2271036 and G for rs2271037) were significantly associated to preeclampsia. Adjusted odds ratios [95% confidence interval] were 2.5 [1.2-3.8] (p = 0.007) and 2.3 [1.5-3.5] (p = 1.3 × 10(-4)), respectively. These associations were ethnic-specific, as only found in the Caucasian of subjects (odds ratio = 3.5 [1.8-6.6], p = 1.1 × 10(-4); odds ratio = 3.1 [1.7-5.8], p = 2.1 × 10(-4), for each single nucleotide polymorphism, respectively). The two single nucleotide polymorphisms are in almost perfect linkage disequilibrium (r(2) = 0.93). No specific association was found with severe preeclampsia, early-onset preeclampsia nor fetal growth retardation. In conclusion, this is the first report of a highly significant association between these two single nucleotide polymorphisms in CORIN gene and preeclampsia. Our findings further support the probability of a critical role of corin in preeclamspia pathophysiology at the uteroplacental interface.

Abstract
Severe preeclampsia is a common cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity worldwide. The disease clusters in families; however, individual genetic studies have produced inconsistent results. We conducted a review to examine relationships between maternal genotype and severe preeclampsia. We searched the MEDLINE and Embase databases for prospective and retrospective cohort and case-control studies reporting associations between genes and severe preeclampsia. Four reviewers independently undertook study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction. We performed random-effects meta-analyses by genotype and predefined functional gene group (thrombophilic, vasoactive, metabolic, immune, and cell signalling). Fifty-seven studies evaluated 50 genotypes in 5,049 cases and 16,989 controls. Meta-analysis showed a higher risk of severe preeclampsia with coagulation factor V gene (proaccelerin, labile factor) (F5) polymorphism rs6025 (odds ratio = 1.90, 95% confidence interval: 1.42, 2.54; 23 studies, I(2) = 29%), coagulation factor II (thrombin) gene (F2) mutation G20210A (rs1799963) (odds ratio = 2.01, 95% confidence interval: 1.14, 3.55, 9 studies, I(2) = 0%), leptin receptor gene (LEPR) polymorphism rs1137100 (odds ratio = 1.75, 95% confidence interval: 1.15, 2.65; 2 studies, I(2) = 0%), and the thrombophilic gene group (odds ratio = 1.87, 95% confidence interval: 1.43, 2.45, I(2) = 27%). There were no associations with other gene groups. There was moderate heterogeneity between studies and potential for bias from poor-quality genotyping and inconsistent definition of phenotype. Further studies with robust methods should investigate genetic factors that might potentially be used to stratify pregnancies according to risk of complications.

Abstract
The chemokine fractalkine is considered as unique since it exists both as membrane-bound adhesion molecule and as shed soluble chemoattractant. Here the hypothesis was tested whether placental fractalkine can be shed and released into the maternal circulation. Immunohistochemical staining of human first trimester and term placenta sections localized fractalkine at the apical microvillous plasma membrane of the syncytiotrophoblast. Gene expression analysis revealed abundant upregulation in placental fractalkine at term, compared to first trimester. Fractalkine expression and release were detected in the trophoblast cell line BeWo, in primary term trophoblasts and placental explants. Incubation of BeWo cells and placental explants with metalloprotease inhibitor Batimastat inhibited the release of soluble fractalkine and at the same time increased the membrane-bound form. These results demonstrate that human placenta is a source for fractalkine, which is expressed in the syncytiotrophoblast and can be released into the maternal circulation by constitutive metalloprotease dependent shedding. Increased expression and release of placental fractalkine may contribute to low grade systemic inflammatory responses in third trimester of normal pregnancy. Aberrant placental metalloprotease activity may not only affect the release of placenta derived fractalkine but may at the same time affect the abundance of the membrane-bound form of the chemokine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether ethnic origin is related to the clinical and biologic expression of pre-eclampsia. METHODS In a secondary analysis of information collected in the ECLAXIR study in France between May 2003 and October 2006, the data from 284 white European, 84 Maghrebian and 158 African women were evaluated in a case-control study of the genetic and endothelial determinants of pre-eclampsia. RESULTS African origin was a risk factor for pre-eclampsia before 28 weeks of gestation. Symptoms related to hypertension, such as neurologic signs and changes in biologic parameters (e.g. hemolysis elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count [HELLP] syndrome), occurred more frequently among white European women. After logistic regression, gestational age at delivery was lower for African women than for white European women (33.4 weeks versus 34.4 weeks of gestation, P=0.04). CONCLUSION The results suggest that ethnic origin may have a role in the expression of pre-eclampsia, and should therefore be taken into account in prenatal surveillance. Further research on the genetic factors involved in endothelial dysfunction is warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to search for an association between a desintegrin-like and metalloprotease thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS13) levels and the occurrence of preeclampsia, its characteristics (time-onset and severity), and its consequences (occurrence of fetal growth restriction or preterm delivery). METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 140 pairs of women in a case-control study with 3 matching criteria: maternal age, gestational age, and ethnic origin. We measured ADAMTS13 activity using a fluorescence resonance energy transfer assay with the fluorescence resonance energy transfer-VWF73 peptide. ELISA was used to assess protein antigen levels: ADAMTS13, von Willebrand Factor (VWF), interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, P-selectin, and thrombospondin-1. The lowest levels of ADAMTS13 (activity ≤ 70% or antigen ≤ 592 ng/mL) were significantly associated with preeclampsia (odds ratios [OR] [95% confidence interval] of 4.2 [1.1 to 15] and 14.3 [1.7 to 123], respectively). This association was independent of VWF levels and preeclampsia risk factors but dependent on interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein levels for ADAMTS13 activity. Levels of ADAMTS13 activity (≤ 57%) were significantly associated with early-onset preeclampsia (OR = 2.5 [1.1 to 5.8]). Severe preeclampsia was associated with the highest levels of P-selectin (>57 ng/mL) (OR = 3.4 [1.2 to 9.7]). CONCLUSIONS Preeclampsia is associated with decreased levels of ADAMTS13, independently of VWF. This decrease is quantitative, occurs early, and seems to be dependent on inflammation. Our results suggest that ADAMTS13 could participate in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia.
