Abstract
Background There is a limited research on predictive models of fat mass ratio (FMR) in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PWH). This study aimed to develop models considering anthropometric and health-related factors to predict and validate FMR in PWH regardless of sex. Methods One hundred and six Brazilian PWH (46.4±9.8 years) were evaluated for body composition using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), body circumference (BC), and skinfold thicknesses (SKs). FMR predictive models were developed using stepwise linear regression, and their agreement with DXA was assessed using Bland-Altman plots. Cross-validation was performed using the predicted residual error sum of squares (PRESS) method. Results Six FMR estimation models were developed for PWH, with adjusted R2 ranging from 0.43 to 0.72, standard error of the estimate (SEE) from 0.16% to 0.22%, and 95% confidence interval (CI) from 1.03 to 1.15. Model 6, including thigh SK, waist BC, therapy duration, subscapular SK, education years, and abdominal SK, exhibited the highest determination power (R2 adjusted 0.72, SEE 0.16%, and 95% CI: 1.06-1.15). The agreement between DXA-based FMR and predictive models showed minimal bias (-0.03 to +0.04) and narrower limits of agreement, particularly for the top-performing model (-0.33 to +0.30). Model 6 exhibited a high adjusted Q2PRESS (0.70) and low SPRESS (0.17). Conclusions Our predictive models advance the study of body composition in PWH by consolidating the use of anthropometry for diagnosing and monitoring lipodystrophy regardless of sex.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) gives people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) a new perspective of life, although some develop changes in impaired body composition. This study aimed to assess the factors associated with changes in body composition in PLWHA using ART, depending food consumption. MATERIAL AND METHODS It was a cross-sectional study and took place through interviews with patients treated at an University Hospital. Secondary data: CD4+ T cells, ART time and age. The level of physical activity and smoking were self-reported. For the assessment of body composition, electrical bioimpedance and measurements of weight, height and waist circumference were used. RESULTS The highest percentages of fat mass and fat-free mass, in treatment for more than 5 years, were in the female group (p <0.01), aged> 50 years (p = 0.02) and in the male group (p <0.01), young adult (p <0.01), respectively. The final linear regression model for both free fat mass and fat mass had sex, age, smoking and nutritional diagnosis as relevant factors. The frequency of food consumption was inadequate for calories, carbohydrates, proteins and lipids was high, however it did not significantly influence body composition. CONCLUSIONS Gender, age, smoking and nutritional diagnosis by BMI significantly influence body composition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The interaction of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), host and antiretroviral therapy (ART) causes a range of metabolic disorders that can be characterized as a metabolic syndrome (MetS) that increases the cardiovascular risk. MetS involves central obesity, which can be detected using different anthropometric parameters. OBJECTIVE To assess the abilities of different anthropometric parameters in the prediction of MetS in HIV-infected men on ART. METHOD The study involved 92 male participants (mean age 44.46±10.38 years), divided into two groups: with and without MetS. All subjects underwent biochemical evaluation (triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, fasting glucose), blood pressure measurement and anthropometric assessment: body mass, body height, body mass index (BMI), body fat mass, body circumferences (chest, upper arm, forearm, waist, hip, proximal and middle thigh and calf), sagittal abdominal diameter (SAD), skinfold thicknesses (subscapular, anterior and posterior upper arm, anterior and lateral forearm, abdominal, supraspinal, thigh and calf), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-thigh ratio (WTR), sagittal abdominal diameter-to-body height ratio (SADH), body adiposity index (BAI) and conicity index. MetS was specified according to IDF criteria. RESULTS Subjects with MetS had statistically significant higher values of all anthropometric parameters except middle thigh circumference, calf skinfold and body height. According to ROC analysis and Binary Logistic Regression, SAD has been shown as the best predictor of MetS with a predictive value of 21.40 cm (AUC:0.91), followed by WHR with a predictive value of 0.93. CONCLUSION Sagittal abdominal diameter is the strongest anthropometric indicator of MetS in HIV-infected patients on ART.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Body fat assessment is needed in individuals with HIV. The objective was to identify the discriminatory capacity of the abdominal skinfold (ASF) tricipital skinfold (TSF), subscapular fold (SSF), calf skinfold (CSF), body adiposity index (BAI), body mass index, conicity index (IC), mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), waist circumference (WC), perimeter of neck (PN) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) for high body fat in children and adolescents with HIV, compared Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and air displacement plethysmography (ADP). METHODS Descriptive study, cross - sectional study, with 65 children and adolescents with HIV by vertical transmission. Body fat was measured by DXA and ADP. Measures were measured by international standardization. The diagnostic properties for high body fat were assessed by area under the ROC curve (AUC). RESULTS For boys, having DXA as a reference for fat, ASF (AUC: 0.920), TSF (AUC: 0.792), SSF (AUC: 0.766), CSF (AUC: 0.866), BAI satisfactory discriminatory capacity. With ADP as the reference method, ASF (AUC: 0.920), TSF (AUC: 0.921), SSF (AUC: 0.766), CSF (AUC: 0.901), BAI (AUC: 0.756) and BMI (AUC: 0.699) presented satisfactory results. For girls, having DXA as a reference for fat, ASF (AUC: 0.838), TSF (AUC: 0.842), SSF (AUC: 0.840), CSF (AUC: 0.887), BAI (AUC: 0.846), and BMI (AUC: 0.859) presented satisfactory discriminatory capacity. Assuming ADP as a reference for fat, ASF (AUC [AUC: 0.799], TSF [AUC: 0.825], SSF [AUC: 0.767], CSF [AUC: 0.897], BAI 0.788), were satisfactory. CONCLUSIONS The ASF, TSF, SSF, CSF, BAI and BMI anthropometric indicators may be suggested as the most suitable for the detection of high body fat in children and adolescents with HIV.

Abstract
The present study investigates the relationship between the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) and anthropometric indices of body composition in adults and seniors living in Teresina, the state capital of an area in northeastern Brazil. The article seeks to address two questions: Is UPF consumption linked to worsening body composition in different age groups? Do anthropometric indicators of body composition change with the increasing consumption of UPF? The study is a cross-sectional, household, population study, carried out with 490 adults and seniors. The food consumption was obtained with a 24 h food recall, and the foods were classified using NOVA. Anthropometric indicators evaluated were waist-to-height ratio, triceps skinfold thickness, arm circumference, corrected arm muscle area, subscapular skinfold thickness, and calf circumference. The association between energy contribution of UPF with anthropometric indicators was verified with a simple and multiple linear regression analysis. Individuals aged 20 to 35 years showed a significant association between UPF consumption and skinfold thickness (ß: 0.04; CI: 0.03/0.09), demonstrating an increase in this subcutaneous body fat marker with higher UPF consumption. Moreover, in participants aged 36 to 59 years, an inverse correlation between UPF intake and muscle mass markers, arm circumference (ß: -0.02; confidence interval: -0.03/-0.01), and corrected arm muscle area (ß: -0.07; confidence interval: -0.12/-0.02) were observed. Such results suggest there is decreased muscle mass with increasing UPF consumption. This is the first study that verified an association between UPF consumption and low-cost body composition indicators in different age groups.

Abstract
Young adulthood is increasingly considered as a vulnerable age group for significant weight gain, and it is apparent that there is an increasing number of new cases of metabolic syndrome developing among this population. This study included 60 young adult volunteers (18-26 years old). All participants obtained a calculated total abdominal fat percentage, subcutaneous fat percentage, and visceral fat percentage using a semiautomatic segmentation technique from T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images of the abdomen. The results show strongest correlation between abdominal fat and BMI (r = 0.824) followed by subcutaneous fat (r = 0.768), and visceral fat (r = 0.633) respectively, (p < 0.001 for all, after having been adjusted for age and gender). Among anthropometric measurements, waist circumference showed strong correlation with all fat compartments (r = 0.737 for abdominal, r = 0.707 for subcutaneous fat, and r = 0.512 for visceral fat; p < 0.001 for all). The results obtained from examining the blood revealed that there was a moderate positive correlation relationship between all fat compartments with triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, and fasting glucose levels (p < 0.05 for all). This study suggests that both BMI and waist circumference could be used to assess the fat compartments and treatment targets to reduce the risk of metabolic disorders and health risks in the young adult population.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective To identify overweight and obesity and as associated variables in people living with HIV. Method Cross-sectional, quantitative and analytical study, developed in specialized services in southeastern Brazil. Individual specifics were carried out from 2014 to 2016. Pearson's Chi-Square test, Logistic Regression and OddsRatio (OR) were used. Results Of the 340 respondents, 47.7% were overweight. The highest abdominal circumferences and lipid changes were predominantly among the highest body mass index (BMI). The greatest chances of obtaining BMI values>25 kg/m² were among men (OR: 1.87; 95% CI: 1.02-2.42), having metabolic syndrome (OR: 5.66; 95% CI: 3.26-9.83) and the undue (OR: 3.89; 95% CI: 2.17-7.00). However, having self-reported hypertension was configured as a protective factor (OR: 0.18; 95% CI: 0.08-0.44). Conclusion The frequency of obesity and overweight between PLHIV was high. There was an association of male gender, metabolic syndrome and smoking with weight gain. The presence of self-reported hypertension was considered a protective factor.

We systematically reviewed the literature on PubMed and Google Scholar databases to summarize the current knowledge in lipodystrophy management.Expert opinion: Adipose tissue is a highly active endocrine organ that regulates metabolic homeostasis in the human body through a comprehensive communication network with other organ systems such as the central nervous system, liver, digestive system, and the immune system. The adipose tissue is capable of producing and secreting numerous factors with important endocrine functions such as leptin that regulates energy homeostasis. Recent developments in the field have helped to solve some of the mysteries behind lipodystrophy that allowed us to get a better understanding of adipocyte function and differentiation. From a clinical standpoint, physicians who suspect lipodystrophy should distinguish the disease from several others that may present with similar clinical features. It is also important for physicians to carefully interpret clinical features, laboratory, and imaging results before moving to more sophisticated tests and making decisions about therapy.

Abstract
Introducción: En el contexto de las personas que viven con VIH (PVVIH), la dislipidemia es un tema que se ha venido discutiendo ampliamente, tanto por su origen multifactorial y sus implicaciones cardiovasculares, como por las posibles estrategias de prevención. De este modo, este estudio tiene por objeto evaluar la presencia de la dislipidemia en personas que viven con VIH y su asociación con aspectos sociodemográficos, actitudinales y clínicos. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio analítico, transversal realizado entre 2014 y 2016. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas en las que se utilizaban cuestionarios y se consultaban las historias médicas. Para analizar la asociación, se utilizaron las pruebas Chi-Cuadrado y Exacto de Fisher, y la estadística Kappa para análisis de concordancia, con un nivel de significancia de p<0,05. Resultados: Participaron 340 personas en el estudio, de las cuales 59,1%, presentaron valores deseables en términos de colesterol total, 55,9% del HDL y 56,8% de triglicéridos. Las variables asociadas a la dislipidemia fueron: el colesterol total alterado y la edad a partir de 40 años (p=0,02); el HDL-c deseable y el sexo femenino (p=0,007); alteración de los triglicéridos y el tiempo de diagnóstico mayor a diez años (p=0,008); y el HDL-c deseable y la carga viral indetectable (p=0,04). Discusión: Aunque la dislipidemia sea un problema en el contexto del VIH, los valores deseables fueron más prevalentes, lo que se refleja sobre el efecto catalizador de la actividad inflamatoria causada por el VIH sobre las alteraciones lipídicas. Conclusiones: La dislipidemia en las PVVIH presentó, en su gran mayoría, valores deseables para el colesterol total, colesterol HDL y triglicéridos; y hubo una asociación entre los lípidos y los aspectos sociodemográficos y clínicos relacionados con el VIH.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to verify the prevalence of arterial hypertension and its risk factors among people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome under antiretroviral therapy. METHOD cross-sectional study with 208 patients. Data collection was conducted through interviews using a form containing data on sociodemographic, clinical and epidemiological aspects, hypertension risk factors, blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index and abdominal circumference. Mean, standard deviation, odds ratio and confidence interval were calculated, t-test and Chi-square test were used, considering P < 0.05 as statistically significant. Hypertension associated variables were selected for logistic regression. RESULTS patients were male (70.7%), self-reported as mixed-race (68.2%), had schooling between 9 and 12 years of study (46.6%), had no children (47.6%), were single (44.2%), in the sexual exposure category (72.1%) and heterosexual (60.6%). The prevalence of people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and arterial hypertension was 17.3%. Logistic regression confirmed the influence of age greater than 45 years, family history of hypertension, being overweight and antiretroviral therapy for more than 36 months for hypertension to occur. CONCLUSION the prevalence of hypertension was 17.3%. Patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and hypertension were older than 45 years, had family history of hypertension, were overweight and under antiretroviral therapy for more than 36 months.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The HIV lipodystrophy syndrome is characterized by changes in metabolism, and body composition that increase cardiovascular risk of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) using highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). OBJECTIVE To assess the prevalence of lipodystrophy and changes in lipid and glucose metabolism in PLWHA in use of HAART. METHODS For the anthropometric evaluation we measured weight, height and abdominal circumference (AC). For the lipodystrophy evaluation we conducted physical examination (subjective) and the (objective) examination of absorptiometry with X-ray dual energy (DEXA) by fat mass ratio (FMR). We also conducted lipid profile tests and fasting glucose and used the criteria suggested by The National Cholesterol Education Program III for metabolic disorders classification. RESULTS The final sample consisted of 262 patients with a mean age of 44.3 ± 10.2 years. Lipodystrophy, according to the physical examination, was present in 47.7% (95%CI 41.7 - 53.8) of patients, while the prevalence using FMR (DEXA) was 40.8% (95%CI 33.1 - 48.5). Most (53.0%; 95%CI 47.0 - 59.1) of the patients showed increased abdominal adiposity according to AC. The most prevalent metabolic alterations were reduced HDL (67.6%; 95%CI 61.9 - 73.2) and hypertriglyceridemia (55.7%; 95%CI 49.7 - 61.7). CONCLUSION The high prevalence of lipodystrophy and changes in lipid and glucose metabolism show the importance of early intervention in this group of patients to prevent cardiovascular complications.

Abstract
Background Body fat redistribution and metabolic abnormalities found in HIV patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) contribute to an atherogenic profile, increasing cardiovascular disease risk. Objective We aimed to evaluate adiposity measures/indexes and propose cutoffs associated with predictors of cardiovascular disease risk in HIV patients on HAART. Design To evaluate cardiovascular disease risk in this cross-sectional study, we conducted electrocardiogram exams and stress electrocardiography, measured the ankle brachial index and blood pressure arterial hypertension, conducted lipid biochemical tests, and measured blood glucose. We measured circumferences [waist (WC), hip, thigh, calf, neck, trunk] and skinfold thicknesses (biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac), conducted bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and calculated indexes [body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-thigh ratio, waist-to-calf ratio, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), trunk-to-arm ratio, body mass index corrected for body fat mass, Body Adiposity Index, conicity index, body shape index, fat mass (percentage), and phase angle]. For evaluating the performance of all adiposity measures/indexes, we used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results Measures of central adiposity WC and WHtR showed the best performances-WC area under the curve (AUC) for men: 0.83 (95% CI: 0.78, 0.89; P < 0.05); WC AUC for women: 0.86 (95% CI: 0.81, 0.91; P < 0.05); WHtR AUC for men: 0.83 (95% CI: 0.78, 0.88; P < 0.05); and WHtR AUC for women: 0.85 (95% CI: 0.80, 0.91; P < 0.05). All adiposity measures/indexes presented different cutoffs from those proposed for the HIV seronegative population. The cutoffs for WC were 87.75 cm (sensitivity: 82.2%; specificity: 75.5%) for men and 90.5 cm (sensitivity: 84.0%; specificity: 73.0%) for women. Conclusions The measures/indexes of central adiposity presented excellent associations with predictors of cardiovascular disease risk, and the use of the cutoffs proposed in the present study aims to contribute to the early identification of increasing risk of cardiovascular diseases, enabling interventions. This trial was registered at the Brazilian clinical trials registry Registro brasileiro de ensaios clínicos (Rebec) as RBR-9rcxbq.

Abstract
Background Highly Active Antiretroviral therapy (HAART) promotes anthropometric changes in lipid metabolism and glucose in patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Functional foods play an important role on metabolism. Bioactive Food Compound (BFC) has shown effective results in changes arising from decompensated lipid metabolism due to the effects of HAART on HIV patients. From this perspective, the objective of this study is to evaluate anthropometric indicators and the body composition of patients undergoing HAART before and after consumption of BFC. Methods This is a prospective intervention with 180 individuals with HIV undergoing HAART. They formed two groups and were monitored for 3 months: the first group consisted of individuals who consumed BFC (n = 121) at the recommended daily intake of 40 g. The second group consisted of individuals who did not consume BFC (n = 59). We determined body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), conicity index (CI) and antiretroviral regimen used by the patients. Results The BMI among adults (p<0.001), the WC (p<0.001 and p<0.014 for men and women, respectively) and the CI (p = 0.001 and p<0.001 for men and women, respectively) increased at the end of the study in the group of individuals who did not consume BFC and remained stable in the BFC group. There were no changes in WHR in any of the groups evaluated. Regarding the antiretroviral regimens used, we observed that there was no difference between regimens as for BMI, WC, WHR and CI. Conclusions The BFC consumed by HIV patients undergoing HAART allowed the maintenance of anthropometric measures without increasing the mean values of conicity index, suggesting that the consumption of this bioactive compound protects the individual against the development of metabolic syndrome (MeS) in patients infected with HIV undergoing antiretroviral therapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Metabolic disorders in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLH) have been described even before the introduction of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs in the treatment of HIV infection and are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Based on this, the purpose of this study was to assess metabolic disorders and cardiovascular risk in PLH before the initiation of antiretroviral treatment (ART). METHODS This was a cross-sectional descriptive study of 87 PLH without the use of ART, which was carried out between January and September 2012 at a specialized infectious diseases center in Minas Gerais, Brazil. RESULTS The main metabolic disorders in the population were low serum levels of HDL-cholesterol, hypertriglyceridemia and abdominal obesity. Dyslipidemia was prevalent in 62.6% of the study population, whereas metabolic syndrome (MS) was prevalent in 11.5% of patients assessed by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria and 10.8% assessed by the National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel (NCEP-ATPIII) criteria. Regarding cardiovascular risk, 89.7% of the population presented a low coronary risk according to the Framingham Risk Score. A greater proportion of patients diagnosed with MS presented low cardiovascular risk (80% assessed by IDF criteria and 77.8% assessed by NCEP-ATPIII criteria). CONCLUSIONS Metabolic disorders in this population may be due to HIV infection or lifestyle (smoking, sedentary lifestyle and inadequate diet). The introduction of ART can enhance dyslipidemia, increasing cardiovascular risk, especially among those who have classic risks of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
Background The applicability of the internationally advocated cut-off points of waist circumference (WC) derived from Caucasians to diagnose metabolic syndrome (MS) in HIV-infected Africans is unknown. This study aimed to determine the optimal WC cutoffs for MS diagnosis in HIV-infected people receiving care at public healthcare facilities in the Western Cape Province in South Africa. Methods Data from 748 randomly selected participants (591 women), with a median age of 38 years, were analysed. The Youden’s index and the top-left-point approaches were used to determine the optimal cutoffs of WC for predicting ≥2 non-adipose MS components. Results The two approaches generated the same WC cut-off point in women, 92 cm (sensitivity 64%, specificity 64%) but different cut-off points in men: 87 cm (sensitivity 48%, specificity 85%) based on the Younden’s index and 83 cm (sensitivity 59%, specificity 74%) by the top-left-point method. The advocated thresholds of 94 cm in men had low sensitivity (30%) but high specificity (92%) whereas 80 cm in women showed low specificity (32%) but high sensitivity (85%) for diagnosing MS in this sample. Most African-specific cut-off points performed well, with 90 cm providing acceptable performance in both men (sensitivity 43%, specificity 88%) and women (sensitivity 66%, specificity 59%). Conclusions This study underlines the sub-optimal performance of internationally recommended WC thresholds for MS diagnosis in HIV-infected Africans, and supports the need to revisit the guidelines on WC criterion in African population across the board. A single threshold of 90 cm for both genders would be a practical suggestion.

Abstract
Metabolism disorders, as well as body shape abnormalities, have been associated with the introduction of antiretroviral therapy. The objective of this study was to compare the diagnostic ability of adiposity indices and to discuss criteria for the classification of lipodystrophy and sarcopenia (SP) in HIV-positive individuals. Anthropometric measurements were determined in 268 individuals of both genders, also submitted to the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry exam. The adiposity indices calculated were body mass index, body mass index adjusted for fat mass (BMIfat), body adiposity index, body adiposity Index for the Fels Longitudinal Study sample, and The Clínica Universidad de Navarra body adiposity estimator. The presence of lipodystrophy was evaluated using the fat mass ratio (FMR). SP was classified using the appendicular lean mass/height2 ratio. The subjects were divided into 3 groups: HIV+LIPO+ (n = 41), HIV+LIPO- (n = 65), and control (C, HIV-negative individuals; n = 162). Among the adiposity indices assessed, BMIfat showed the strongest correlation with total body fat (in percent) for men (r = 0.87, p < 0.001) and women (r = 0.92, p < 0.001). The frequency of SP was 44.8% and 41.7% in HIV+LIPO+, 27.8% and 20.7% in HIV+LIPO- and 63.3% and 45.45% in C, for men and women, respectively. The cutoff point suggested for the diagnosis of lipodystrophy according to the FMR was 1.14. The adiposity indices, particularly the BMIfat, have strong correlation with body fat determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in HIV-positive patients. The implementation of FMR is recommended for more standardized estimates of the frequency of lipodystrophy.

Abstract
The distribution of body size phenotypes in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has yet to be characterized. We assessed the distribution of body size phenotypes overall, and according to antiretroviral therapy (ART), diagnosed duration of the infection and CD4 count in a sample of HIV infected people recruited across primary care facilities in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. Adults aged ≥ 18 years were consecutively recruited using random sampling procedures, and their cardio-metabolic profile were assessed during March 2014 and February 2015. They were classified across body mass index (BMI) categories as normal-weight (BMI < 25 kg/m2), overweight (25 ≤ BMI < 30 kg/m2), and obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2), and further classified according to their metabolic status as “metabolically healthy” vs. “metabolically abnormal” if they had less than two vs. two or more of the following abnormalities: high blood glucose, raised blood pressure, raised triglycerides, and low HDL-cholesterol. Their cross-classification gave the following six phenotypes: normal-weight metabolically healthy (NWMH), normal-weight metabolically abnormal (NWMA), overweight metabolically healthy (OvMH), overweight metabolically abnormal (OvMA), obese metabolically healthy (OMH), and obese metabolically abnormal (OMA). Among the 748 participants included (median age 38 years (25th–75th percentiles: 32–44)), 79% were women. The median diagnosed duration of HIV was five years; the median CD4 count was 392 cells/mm3 and most participants were on ART. The overall distribution of body size phenotypes was the following: 31.7% (NWMH), 11.7% (NWMA), 13.4% (OvMH), 9.5% (OvMA), 18.6% (OMH), and 15.1% (OMA). The distribution of metabolic phenotypes across BMI levels did not differ significantly in men vs. women (p = 0.062), in participants below vs. those at or above median diagnosed duration of HIV infection (p = 0.897), in participants below vs. those at or above median CD4 count (p = 0.447), and by ART regimens (p = 0.205). In this relatively young sample of HIV-infected individuals, metabolically abnormal phenotypes are frequent across BMI categories. This highlights the importance of general measures targeting an overall improvement in cardiometabolic risk profile across the spectrum of BMI distribution in all adults with HIV.
