Abstract
Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, particularly in China. Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and intestinal metaplasia (IM) are recognized as precancerous conditions contributing to GC development. Qilianxiaopi formula (QLXP), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has demonstrated significant therapeutic effects on CAG and IM; however, its underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Methods: This study utilized chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify the major compounds in QLXP. Network pharmacology was used to predict the associated targets of these components. Thermal proteome profiling (TPP) pinpointed the potential binding proteins of QLXP, which were validated by bioinformatic analyses. Bio-layer interferometry (BLI) was used to analyze the interactions between QLXP and its key target proteins, thereby determining their binding components. Molecular docking predicted the binding modes between the components and proteins. Results: ADAM17 was identified as a key binding protein for QLXP. Further investigation revealed that QLXP inhibits the enzymatic activity of ADAM17, thereby reducing the secretion of the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α, contributing to the anti-inflammatory properties of QLXP. BLI confirmed direct and reversible binding interactions between QLXP and ADAM17. Narirutin, isolated from the ADAM17 binding fraction, displayed the highest affinity for QLXP. Conclusions: This study highlights ADAM17 as a key molecular target of QLXP and narirutin as its principal binding component. The integrated approach combining chromatography-mass spectrometry, network pharmacology, TPP, BLI, and molecular docking provides a robust framework for elucidating the mechanisms of action of TCM.

Abstract
Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is an important stage of precancerous lesions of gastric cancer. Effective treatment and regulation of CAG are essential to prevent its progression to malignancy. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown multi-targeted efficacy in CAG treatment, with advantages in enhancing gastric mucosal barrier defense, improving microcirculation, modulating inflammatory and immune responses, and promoting lesion healing, etc. Clinical studies and meta-analyses indicate that TCM provides significant benefits, with specific Chinese herbal compounds and monomers demonstrating protective effects on the gastric mucosa through mechanisms including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and regulation of cellular proliferation and apoptosis, etc. Finally, it is pointed out that the efficacy of TCM in the treatment of CAG requires standardized research and unified standards, and constantly clarifies and improves the evaluation criteria of each dimension of gastric mucosal barrier function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic gastritis (CG) is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by inflammation of the stomach lining. Liver-stomach disharmony (LSD) syndrome is believed to contribute to CG symptoms. AIM To evaluate the efficacy and safety of microcosmic syndrome differentiation and Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) treatment in patients with CG and LSD syndrome. METHODS Sixty-four patients with CG and LSD syndrome were randomly divided into two groups: The treatment group received CHM based on microcosmic syndrome differentiation and the control group received conventional Western medicine. The treatment course lasted 12 wk. The primary outcome was improvement in dyspeptic symptoms, measured using the Nepean Dyspepsia Index. The secondary outcomes included the improvement rate of endoscopic findings, histopathological findings, and microcosmic syndrome scores and the incidence of adverse events. RESULTS After 12 wk of treatment, the treatment group showed significantly greater improvement in dyspeptic symptoms than the control group (93.75% vs 65.63%, P < 0.01). The treatment group also showed a significantly higher improvement rate in endoscopic findings than the control group (81.25% vs 53.13%, P < 0.05). The improvement rates of histopathological findings and microcosmic syndrome scores were not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). No serious adverse events were observed in either group. CONCLUSION Microcosmic syndrome differentiation and CHM treatment can effectively improve dyspeptic symptoms and endoscopic findings in patients with CG and LSD syndrome and have a good safety profile. Further studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are required to confirm the long-term efficacy and mechanism of action of this treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic atrophic gastritis is a significant premalignant lesion of gastric carcinoma. There is a great need to prevent the progression to gastric carcinoma through early intervention and treatment for chronic atrophic gastritis. Weifuchun, a famous Chinese patent drug, has been widely used for chronic atrophic gastritis in China. However, it remains unclear whether Weifuchun is effective for atrophic gastritis. OBJECTIVE To determine the effectiveness and safety of Weifuchun for chronic atrophic gastritis. METHODS We systematically retrieved seven databases (Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang database, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, and Chinese Biological Medical Database) from their inception to October 5, 2022. Methodological quality was examined using the Cochrane Risk of bias tool. We also used RevMan 5.4 software for statistical analysis to examine the effectiveness and safety of Weifuchun. RESULTS Fifteen studies with 1,488 patients were enrolled in this meta-analysis. The study indicated that Weifuchun was more effective (RR 1.52; 95% CI 1.41, 1.63; p<0.00001) than Western medicine and other Chinese patent medicine. In addition, Weifuchun was more effective in improving gastric mucosal under gastroscopy, improving histopathologic changes of gastric mucosal, and inhibiting Helicobacter pylori. However, no significant difference in safety was examined between Weifuchun and the control group (RR 2.83; 95% CI 0.85, 9.38; P = 0.09). CONCLUSIONS The meta-analysis revealed a significant statistical difference with Weifuchun in effectiveness compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference in safety. Thus, more high-quality clinical studies are needed in the future. TRIAL REGISTRATION Registration number CRD42022365703.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic gastritis (CG) is an inflammatory disease of the gastric mucosa. Shen-ling-bai-zhu san (SLBZS), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, is widely used for treating CG. Nevertheless, its effects are currently unclear.
AIM To determine the clinical evidence and potential mechanisms of SLBZS for the treatment of CG.
METHODS We systematically searched 3 English (PubMed, Embase, Medline) and 4 Chinese databases (Cochrane Library Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure database, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and the VIP information resource integration service platform) without language or publication bias restriction. Qualified studies were selected according to pre-set inclusion and exclusion criteria. RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis and literature quality assessment, Stata 14.0 software was used for sensitivity analysis, GRADE profiler 3.6 was used to evaluate the quality of evidence. And then, network pharmacology analysis was applied to primary research the mechanisms of action of SLBZS on CG.
RESULTS Fourteen studies were finally included, covering 1335 participants. Meta-analysis indicated that: (1) SLBZS was superior to conventional therapies [risk ratio (RR): 1.29, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.21 to 1.37, P < 0.00001]; (2) SLBZS was better than conventional therapies [RR: 0.24, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 0.11 to 0.55, P = 0.0007] in terms of recurrence rate and reversal of Helicobacter pylori positivity (RR: 1.20, 95%CI: 1.11 to 1.30, P < 0.00001); and (3) The safety of SLBZS for CG remains unclear. According to the GRADE method, the quality of evidence was not high. Besides, SNZJS might treat CG by acting on related targets and pathways such as EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor resistance, the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and others.
CONCLUSION SLBZS might be useful in treating CG, but long-term effects and specific clinical mechanisms of it maintain unclear. More samples and high-quality clinical experiments should be assessed and verified in the next step.

Abstract
Background Jian-Pi-Yi-Qi-Fang (JPYQF) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula for treating chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) in the clinic; however, its related mechanism remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential mechanisms of JPYQF in treating CAG by examining proteins and genes related to the proliferation and differentiation of gastric stem cells and Wnt signaling. Methods A CAG model was established in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats which were induced by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and ranitidine. We randomly divided 25 CAG rats into 5 groups: the model group, positive drug group, low-dose group of JPYQF (JPYQF-L), middle-dose group of JPYQF (JPYQF-M), and high-dose group of JPYQF (JPYQF-H), with 5 rats of the same age classified into the control group. The body weight of rats was measured and their gastric morphology was visually assessed. Furthermore, pathological analysis of rat gastric tissue was performed. The expression levels of proteins and genes associated with the proliferation and differentiation of gastric stem cells and Wnt signaling were measured via immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Results Compared with the model group, treatment with JPYQF increased the body weight of the rats, and relieved the gastric atrophy and inflammation. Compared with the control group, the protein and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels of gastric stem cell proliferation and differentiation markers Lgr5, Sox2, Ki67, PCNA, Muc5AC, and Wnt signaling initiator Wnt3A and enhancer R-spondin-1 (Rspo1) were decreased in the model group. Treatment with JPYQF increased the protein and mRNA expression levels of these markers. Conclusions The Wnt signaling of CAG rats may be in a low activation state, which inhibits the proliferation and differentiation of gastric stem cells, so that gland cells cannot be replenished in time to repair the damaged gastric mucosa. The TCM formula JPYQF could enhance Wnt signaling to promote the restricted proliferation and normal differentiation of gastric stem cells, thereby improving gastric mucosal atrophy in CAG rats, which provides a novel and robust theoretical basis for CAG treatment.

Abstract
Gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is lifelong and usually acquired in childhood, which is etiologically linked to gastric cancer (GC). H. pylori gastritis is defined as an infectious disease with varying severity in virtually all infected subjects. Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is the precancerous condition with the decrease or the loss of gastric glands, which can further be replaced by metaplasia or fibrosis. Patients with advanced stages of CAG are at higher risk of GC and should be followed up with a high-quality endoscopy every 3 years. H. pylori infection is the most common cause and its eradication is recommended, which may contribute to the regression of CAG. However, it is controversial whether CAG is reversible after eradication therapy. In the review, we discuss recent studies which provide important insights into whether CAG is 'reversibility' and when it may progress into GC after eradicating H. pylori.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the efficacy of Jianpiyangxue granules on gastrointestinal autonomic nerve dysfunction and their impact on adverse reactions. METHODS From September 2016 to September 2020, 120 patients with gastrointestinal autonomic nerve dysfunction treated in our hospital were retrospectively selected and randomly assigned to a treatment group (TG) which was administered Jianpiyangxue granules prepared by our hospital and a control group (CG) which was administered routine Western medicine treatment (B vitamins + oryzanol). There were 60 patients in each group. The clinical efficacy and incidences of adverse effects were compared between the groups. The gastrointestinal hormone indexes, the inflammatory cytokines, and the immune indexes were analyzed before and after the therapy. The gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MTL) levels were measured using the motilin stimulating method, and the somatostatin (SS) levels were measured using ELISA for comparison. The autonomic nerve dysfunction symptoms were used for the evaluation. The degree of neurological functional defects scale (NIHSS) was used to assess the neurological functional defect levels. The self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores were used to assess the patients' psychological statuses. RESULTS After the therapy, the GAS, MTL, and SS expressions in the TG were remarkably higher than they were in the CG. The CRP and IL-6 expressions in the TG were significantly lower than they were in the CG. The TG had higher IgG, IgM, and IgA levels as compared with the CG, higher grade 0 and grade 1 scores on the gastrointestinal autonomic nerve dysfunction, but lower grade 2 and 3 scores were observed compared to the CG. Significantly lower NIHSS, SAS, and SDS scores were recorded in the TG compared with the CG. The TG yielded more promising outcomes in terms of the total effective rate and the incidences of adverse reactions than the CG. CONCLUSION Jianpiyangxue granules contribute to enhancing the clinical efficacy, reducing the incidence of adverse reactions, and improving the gastrin, somatostatin, and other indicators in treating gastrointestinal autonomic nerve dysfunction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric ulcer (GU) is a clinically common disease of the digestive system that adversely affects patients' quality of life and work ability. Although some articles have reported that acupuncture can improve the clinical symptoms of GU, the efficacy of acupuncture has not been scientifically or methodically evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of patients with gastric ulcers. METHODS The following electronic databases will be searched from the respective dates of database inception to March 23, 2021: The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and other sources. Randomized controlled trials comparing acupuncture with other interventions or sham acupuncture were included. Two independent researchers will perform article retrieval, duplication removal, screening, quality evaluation, and data analyses by Review Manager (V.5.3.5). Meta-analyzes, subgroup analysis, and/or descriptive analyses will be performed based on the included data conditions. RESULTS The protocol of this study systematically assessed the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for gastric ulcer patients. The primary outcome was the effective rate, and the secondary outcomes included negative conversing rate of Helicobacter pylori infection, untoward effect, recurrence rate, quality of life, and symptom scores. CONCLUSION This study provides evidence of whether acupuncture is an effective and safe intervention for gastric ulcers. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42021251067.

Abstract
Jianpiyiqi formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) prescription and is used for the clinical treatment of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). The aim of the present study was to examine the underlying mechanisms of Jianpiyiqi formula treatment for CAG via the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. The high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) chromatogram of Jianpiyiqi formula was constructed. A CAG rat model induced by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and ranitidine was established. The body weight and food intake of the rats was recorded and rat gastric morphology was visually examined. Pathological analysis of rat gastric tissue was also performed. The levels of gastrin (GAS), pepsin (PP), somatostatin (SS) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in rat serum were detected using ELISAs. The expression levels of proteins and genes associated with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway were measured via immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The HPLC chromatogram of Jianpiyiqi formula was determined and as active components, liquiritin and hesperidin were identified from the chromatogram. Compared with the blank group, the body weight and feed intake of the rats were decreased, and gastric mucosal atrophy and inflammation appeared in the model group. Treatment with Jianpiyiqi formula increased the body weight and feed intake of the rats, as well as relieved the gastric atrophy and inflammation. The contents of GAS, PP, SS and PGE2 were significantly reduced in the model group compared with the blank group. Jianpiyiqi formula significantly increased GAS, PP, SS and PGE2 levels in serum of rats with CAG. In the model group, Wnt1, β-catenin and cyclin D1 protein expression levels were increased, and glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) protein expression levels were decreased. Jianpiyiqi formula decreased the protein expression levels of Wnt1, β-catenin and cyclin D1 and increased the protein expression levels of GSK-3β. Compared with the blank group, the mRNA expression levels of Wnt1, Wnt5a, β-catenin, cyclin D1 and MMP7 were upregulated, and the mRNA expression levels of GSK-3β were downregulated in the model group. Treatment with Jianpiyiqi formula downregulated the mRNA expression levels of Wnt1, Wnt5a, β-catenin, cyclin D1 and MMP7 and upregulated the mRNA expression levels of GSK-3β. All of the experimental results indicated that Jianpiyiqi formula exerted a therapeutic effect on rats with CAG and inhibited the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Thus, Jianpiyiqi formula, as an effective TCM prescription for treating patients with CAG, may be more widely used in the clinic.

Abstract
Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is well-known related with multiple pathogenic factors and normally therapies comprised by western or Chinese medicines. The present study was designed to identify the bacterial community characterized by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and determine the modulate affection of bacterial composition response western and Chinese medicine Qinghuayin (QHY) as well as antibiotic on model rats. The result shown the overall structure alteration of bacterial appeared under medicine intervened, antibiotic caused a marked depletion in bacterial diversity and richness. The enrichments of Firmicutes (85.1-90.7%) in antibiotic-free converts into Bacteroidetes (30.7-34.6%) in antibiotic-added model rat were demonstrated. Firmicutes as the most dominant phylum in antibiotic-free treatments and significantly decreased till 21.9-68.5% in antibiotic-added treatments. Especially QHY-treated rats showed highest RA of Firmicutes (90.7%) and the amelioration of CAG using QHY attributed by beneficial bacterial enrichment, especially Ruminococcus, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. In addition, alpha and beta diversity analysis also demonstrated the clear dispersion and aggregation that revealed the alteration and steady of bacterial community structures. In summary, QHY has potential application value in the treatment of CAG, which attributed to close relation with the modulatory of internal bacterial communities.

Abstract
Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (HQJZ) is a representative prescription used for clinical treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) in Chinese medicine. Our previous study had revealed that energy regulation was one of the important mechanisms of HQJZ action against CAG. In this study, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-Exactive mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Exactive MS) based metabonomics was used to find the potential mitochondrial biomarkers and metabolic pathways of HQJZ in CAG rats, which focused on a specific organelle (mitochondria) isolated from gastric tissue samples. A total of 16 biomarkers from CAG tissues were identified with 11 of these significantly regulated by HQJZ treatment. These biomarkers was mainly involved in glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism; aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis metabolism; and taurine and hypotaurine metabolism. Our results show that HQJZ could protect from CAG by altering the mitochondrial function. These findings deepen our understanding of the mitochondrial metabolic changes that occur with CAG and shine a light on the mechanism of HQJZ.

Abstract
Background Banxia Xiexin decoction (BXD), a classical formula of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been wildly used for chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) patients with the cold-heat complex syndrome in China, and achieved satisfied effects. However, the clinical effects of it remains unclear. Purpose The purpose of this article is to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of BXD for CAG treatment. Methods We searched seven electronic databases including Ovid, Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Wan-fang database, VIP (Chinese Scientific Journals Database) and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) from their inception to September 21, 2020. We used Jadad scale and Cochrane Collaboration’s risk of bias tool to make evaluation of methodological quality. Revman 5.3 statistical software was used for statistical processing to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of BXD. Results 26 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) totaling 1985 patients were identified for analysis. Meta-analysis showed that BXD treatment was more effective (RR 1.29; 95%CI 1.24, 1.35; P<0.00001) and safe (MD 0.33; 95%CI 0.18, 0.58; P = 0.0002) than Chinese patent medicine + western medicine. Furthermore, BXD had improvement on symptoms scores such as stomach distending pain, and belching. Besides, BXD was more effective in inhibiting Helicobacter Pylori (HP), improving HP-related inflammation, and relieving the degree of glandular atrophy, intestinal metaplasia (IM), and dysplasia of gastric mucosa (GM). Conclusions The meta-analysis showed that BXD was more effective and safer for CAG patients than the control group. However, due to limitations of methodological quality and small sample size of the included studies, further standardized research of rigorous design should be needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is defined as an important precancerous disease in the development of gastric cancer. Early intervention of CAG is of great significance in reducing symptoms and blocking its progression to gastric cancer. Weifuchun (WFC) tablet is a classic Chinese patent medicine used to treat CAG. However, there is no systematic review related to WFC for atrophic gastritis published in English. we will conduct systematic review and meta-analysis to provide more evidence on the effectiveness and safety for clinical use of WFC. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Three English database and 4 Chinese databases will be searched from its inception to April 2020. Two trained researchers will independently select the qualified studies for data extraction and assess the quality and risk of bias. Then the meta-analyses will be performed by using the RevMan 5.2 and stata 14.0. The heterogeneity of data will be investigated by Cochrane X and I tests. Sensitivity analysis will be conducted to evaluate the stability of the results. A funnel plot analysis and Egger's test will be drawn to assess the publication bias. Finally, we will use the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluate system to evaluate the methodological quality. RESULTS The results of our research will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. CONCLUSION The conclusion of our systematic review will provide evidence to judge whether WFC is an effective intervention for patient with CAG. OSF REGISTRATION NUMBER 10.17605/OSF.IO/2UTMB.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The proportion of application of acupuncture for chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is increasing over time. We will conduct this study to explore the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as a treatment method for CAG. METHODS We will go through domestic and foreign databases until July 2019 to identify related randomized controlled trials that explored the effectiveness of acupuncture for CAG. RevMan (V.5.3) and test sequential analysis (V.0.9) will be used for mata-analysis and trial sequential analysis. RESULTS This study will update previous evidence summaries of acupuncture and determine the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for CAG based on clinical effectiveness rate, clearance of Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection, and quality of life and symptom scores. CONCLUSION This study will determine the evidence for judging whether acupuncture provides benefits in the treatment of CAG, and will support the application of acupuncture in the recovery of patients with CAG. Abstract
Gastric ulcer (GU), a common digestive disease, has a high incidence and seriously endangers health of human. According to the previous studies, it has been proved that electroacupuncture at acupoints of stomach meridian had a good effect on GU. However, there are few published studies on metabolic response in gastric ulcer (GU) rats with electroacupuncture treatment. Herein, we observed the metabolic profiles in biological samples (stomach, liver, and kidney) of GU rats with electroacupuncture treatment by 1H NMR metabolomics combined with pathological examination. The male SD rats were induced by intragastric administration of 70% ethanol after fasting for 24 hours and treated by electroacupuncture at Zusanli (ST36) and Liangmen (ST21) for 1 day, 4 days, or 7 days, respectively. And the conventional histopathological examinations as well as metabolic pathways assays were also performed. We found that GU rats were basically cured after electroacupuncture treatment for 4 days and had a complete recovery after electroacupuncture treatment for 7 days by being modulated comprehensive metabolic changes, involved in the function of neurotransmitters, energy metabolism, cells metabolism, antioxidation, tissue repairing, and other metabolic pathways. These findings may be helpful to facilitate the mechanism elucidating of electroacupuncture treatment on GU.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To systematically evaluate efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating chronic gastritis (CG). METHODS Data sources from PubMed, Embase, Springer Link, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, Chinese Biomedicine Database, and Wan-fang database were searched up to July 5, 2018. Review Manager software version 5.3, the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool, and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation profiler software were conducted for this meta-analysis. RESULTS Sixteen studies involving 1673 participants (906 vs 767) were included in this study. Pooled data showed significant statistical differences between TCM groups and current routine pharmacotherapy (RP) groups in overall clinical efficacy (odds ratio [OR] 4.65; 95% confidence interval [CI] 3.29, 6.56; P < .00001), efficacy under endoscopy (OR 2.46; 95% CI 1.12, 5.43; P = .03), stomach distension (mean difference [MD] -0.37; 95% CI -0.56, -0.19; P < .0001), stomachache (standardized MD [SMD] -0.80; 95% CI -1.45, -0.14; P = .02), and belching (SMD -2.00; 95% CI -3.80, -0.20; P = .03). However, acid regurgitation (SMD -0.71; 95% CI -1.69, 0.28; P = .16) and anorexia (SMD -0.75; 95% CI -2.30, 0.80; P = .35) showed no significant statistical differences between 2 groups. In addition, incidence of adverse reactions of TCM groups was lower than that of RP groups. CONCLUSION Evidence from this meta-analysis suggests that TCM could be more efficacious than current RP in treating CG. But further standardized research of rigorous design should be needed to further validate its efficacy.

Abstract
Acupuncture and moxibustion proved to be very effective in chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). According to the Chinese traditional medicine theory, chronic diseases have an influence on the function of liver and kidney. However, there is little research to demonstrate this theory. This study is aimed at assessing the 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling in liver and kidney of CAG rats and comparing the difference between electroacupuncture and moxibustion treatment. Male SD rats were subjected to CAG modeling by intragastric administration of mixture of 2% sodium salicylate and 30% alcohol coupled with compulsive sporting and irregular fasting for 12 weeks and then treated by electroacupuncture or moxibustion at Liangmen (ST 21) and Zusanli (ST 36) acupoints for 2 weeks. A 1H NMR analysis of liver and kidney samples along with histopathological examination and molecular biological assay was employed to assess and compare the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture and moxibustion. CAG brought characterization of metabolomic signatures in liver and kidney of rats. Both electroacupuncture and moxibustion treatment were found to normalize the CAG-induced changes by restoring energy metabolism, neurotransmitter metabolism, antioxidation metabolism, and other metabolism, while the moxibustion treatment reversed more metabolites related to energy metabolism in liver than electroacupuncture treatment. CAG did have influence on liver and kidney of rats. Both of these treatments had good effects on CAG by reversing the CAG-induced perturbation in liver and kidney. For regulating the energy metabolism in liver, the moxibustion played more important role than electroacupuncture treatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The transition from chronic non-atrophic gastritis (CNAG) to chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and gastric carcinoma (GC) is regarded as a representative disease model of gastric mucosa malignant transformation led by uncontrolled inflammation. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome-targeted therapies have been applied in treating chronic gastritis (CG) malignant transformation in China with satisfying efficacy. This study aims to validate TCM syndrome features in each stage of CG malignant transformation. The findings may shed light on the TCM hypothesis of CG malignant transformation, and thus optimise syndrome-targeted treatment strategies of CNAG, CAG and GC, respectively. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The present study is a cross-sectional study conducted in China. A total of 2000 eligible patients, including 500 CNAG cases, 1000 CAG cases and 500 GC cases, will be recruited from four TCM hospitals. Primary outcome measures include the prevalence of TCM syndrome patterns in varied stages of CG malignant transformation. Secondary outcome measures include prevalence and severity of all the presenting signs and symptoms collected by using TCM four diagnostic methods. Descriptive analysis, comparative analysis and correlation analysis of all the measurement data will be performed by biostatisticians. Unsupervised data mining analyses, including exploratory factor analysis, association rule analysis, hierarchical clustering analysis, complex system entropy clustering analysis, and so on, will also be performed by data scientists respectively for in-depth analyses of TCM syndrome-related indicators. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The protocol has been approved by the Ethical Review Board of Dongzhimen Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (No ECPJ-BDY-2014-02). All the study outcomes will be disseminated through national conference reports and in the meantime published on peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT03314038; Pre-results.

Abstract
Suanzaoren decoction, as one of the traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, has been most commonly used in Asian countries and reported to inhibit the process of immunodeficiency insomnia. Polysaccharide is important component which also contributes to the role of immunoprotective and sedative hypnotic effects. This study was aimed to explore the immunoprotective and sedative hypnotic mechanisms of polysaccharide from Suanzaoren decoction by serum metabonomics approach. With this purpose, complex physical and chemical immunodeficiency insomnia models were firstly established according to its multi-target property. Serum samples were analyzed using UHPLC/Q-TOF-MS spectrometry approach to determine endogenous metabolites. Then, principal component analysis was used to distinguish the groups, and partial least squares discriminate analysis was carried out to confirm the important variables. The serum metabolic profiling was identified and pathway analysis was performed after the total polysaccharide administration. The twenty-one potential biomarkers were screened, and the levels were all reversed to different degrees in the total polysaccharide treated groups. These potential biomarkers were mainly related to vitamin, sphingolipid, bile acid, phospholipid and acylcarnitine metabolisms. The result has indicated that total polysaccharide could inhibit insomnia triggered by immunodeficiency stimulation through regulating those metabolic pathways. This study provides a useful approach for exploring the mechanism and evaluating the efficacy of total polysaccharide from Suanzaoren decoction.

Abstract
Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a common digestive system disease, which belongs to a type of precancerous lesion of gastric cancer (PLGC). Modern medical research has shown that brain-gut peptides, such as ghrelin, gastrin, somatostatin, and motilin, play an important role in the pathogenesis of CAG and PLGC. In particular, brain-gut peptides can help to judge the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome of CAG and thereby evaluate CAG progression and the therapeutic effect. Based on TCM theory and brain gut interaction, this paper discusses the regulatory effect of TCM intervention on brain-gut peptides in CAG, with an aim to provide a theoretical basis for TCM prevention and treatment of CAG.
