Abstract
BACKGROUND Keratoconus (KC) is easily recognized by its unique topographic pattern, but it can be difficult to distinguish subclinical form of the disease from the normal cornea. Optovue anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) helps diagnose KC. AIM OF THE WORK To assess and the level of agreement of Keratometry-readings (K), Central Corneal Thickness (CCT) and Thinnest Corneal Thickness (TCT) measurements obtained by Optovue AS-OCT and Wavelight Oculyzer Pentacam HR in two groups: KC eyes and normal eyes. PATIENTS AND METHODS This is a prospective clinical observational study. The study included 110 eyes divided into two groups. The study group included 62 eyes with topographic evidence of KC. The control group included 48 eyes of normal subjects with no topographic evidence of KC. All of the participants underwent full cycloplegic refraction, spectacle best-corrected distance visual acuity, comprehensive slit-lamp biomicroscopy and fundoscopy. All participants underwent corneal topography by Pentacam HR and AS-OCT. RESULTS There were highly significant differences between the studied groups as regarding BCVA, intraocular pressure and CCT measurements which were found to be lower among KC group compared to the control one. There were highly significant differences between the studied groups regarding TCT measurement detected by Pentacam HR and AS-OCT which was found to be lower among the keratoconus group compared to the control one (470.9, 455.7 versus 541.9 and 518.7 respectively). CONCLUSION Both Scheimpflug-based imaging and AS-OCT provide comparable readings with a good agreement regarding corneal pachymetry in keratoconus group with accurate identification of KC eyes and healthy ones. However, there was a significant difference in K readings between both devices in Keratoconus and control group.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare the evolution of corneal pachymetry after customized corneal crosslinking (CXL) between Scheimpflug-based and optical coherence-based corneal tomography (OCT). METHODS In this retrospective study, central corneal thickness (CCT), thinnest corneal thickness, and epithelial thickness of 33 eyes of 33 patients with keratoconus were measured preoperatively and 1, 3, and 12 months after customized CXL using the Pentacam HR and the MS-39. The mean pachymetry values of measurements were compared with a paired sample t test. Bland-Altman plots and 95% limits of agreement (LoA) were used to assess the agreement between the measurements of the 2 devices. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 29.7 ± 11.4 years. At baseline, the mean CCT measurements were equal with Pentacam HR (478.30 ± 36.77 μm) and MS-39 (478.46 ± 38.01 μm). After CXL, CCT obtained by Pentacam HR was 460.65 ± 38.69 μm, 464.65 ± 44.45 μm, and 476.77 ± 39.85 μm, and by MS-39 was 478.18 ± 39.50 μm, 472.89 ± 40.92 μm, and 479.51 ± 39.20 μm at 1, 3, and 12 months, respectively. Pentacam HR measured significantly lower CCT (P < 0.05) at months 1 and 3 after CXL. The agreement was smallest between both devices at month 1 (95% LoA -59 to 24 μm) followed by month 3 (95% LoA: -41 to 23 μm). Epithelial thickness, measured with OCT alone, increased significantly at 1 month and regained preoperative levels at 3 months and thereafter. CONCLUSIONS After CXL, corneal pachymetry significantly differs between OCT-based and Scheimpflug-based corneal tomography. Pentacam HR seems to underestimate pachymetry when haze is present.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of this study was to assess the concordance between the values obtained in measuring central corneal thickness using the OrbscanIIz® and the contact ultrasonic pachymeter available in our public ophthalmology service. METHODS Measurements were taken from 88 eyes of 44 patients using the two instruments. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using version 22 of the IBM SPSS® program. RESULTS The mean of central corneal thickness measurements obtained from OrbscanIIz® was significantly higher than that obtained from ultrasound pachymetry. However, the mean of differences between both instruments was only 7.22 μ, which could be considered a clinically insignificant result when considering the good concordance obtained between both systems. CONCLUSION OrbscanIIz® and ultrasound pachymetry can be interchangeable in the usual public clinical practice when measuring central corneal thickness. This is the first research found in the literature that uses a concordance study to compare the data resulting from central corneal thickness measurements obtained by an OrbscanIIz® and an OcuScan® pachymeter in our environment.

Abstract
Aim The aim of this study is to compare central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements in healthy eyes using ultrasonic pachymetry (UP) with values obtained using anterior segment spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), the Scheimpflug camera system, and noncontact specular microscopy. Material and Methods One hundred and twenty-five eyes of 117 healthy individuals (56 women, 61 men) were included. All patients underwent consecutive CCT measurement with UP, the Scheimpflug camera, anterior segment SD-OCT, and specular microscopy. The four devices could be read. Measurements from the four devices were classified in pairs and compared using the paired t-test. Relations between the devices were analyzed using the Pearson test. An alpha error level of P < 0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. Results The mean age of the healthy individuals included in the study was 34.75 ± 14.55 years (20-76). Mean CCT values were 541.21 ± 29.24 μm with UP, 539.26 ± 29.27 μm with the Scheimpflug camera system, 532.21 ± 29.53 μm with SD-OCT, and 534.45 ± 29.20 μm with specular microscopy. The differences in measurements at the paired t-test were statistically significant (P < 0.001 for all). However, measurements using the four devices exhibited significant mutual correlation (P < 0.001 for all). Conclusions CCT can be measured using different devices. Noncontact methods have now begun replacing UP, regarded as the gold standard. Although CCT values obtained from different devices were correlated, the difference between these measurements was statistically significant. Therefore, the same device should be used for measurement in the diagnosis and follow-up of diseases such as corneal ectasia and glaucoma where corneal thickness is important.

Abstract
AIMS Evidence for choosing a satisfactory device for central corneal thickness (CCT) measurement in children particularly pseudophakic and aphakic ones is insufficient. The aim of this study is to compare four differently measured CCTs obtained using ultrasound pachymetry (UP), Pentacam, partial coherence interferometry (PCI), and specular microscopy (SM) in phakic, pseudophakic, and aphakic children and assess the agreement between the six pairs of the methods. METHODS Children with history of cataract surgery at age six or younger and phakic children were recruited into this study. CCT was measured using UP (Optikon 2000, Rome, Italy), Pentacam (Oculus Inc, Wetzlar, Germany), PCI (IOLMaster 700, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany), and SM (Topcon SP-3000P; Topcon Corporation, Japan). RESULTS One-hundred two eyes (53 phakic, 29 pseudophakic, and 20 aphakic eyes) were included. The mean ages (± SD) of phakic, pseudophakic, and aphakic cases were 9.75 (± 3.3), 9.9 (± 2.3), and 8.2 (± 2.8) years, respectively. The mean CCTs (± SE) for phakic children using Pentacam, PCI, UP, and SM were 549.7 (± 5.0), 546.5 (± 4.5), 565.9 (± 5.5), and 506.2 (± 4.4) μm, respectively, for pseudophakic cases were 570.1 (± 6.4), 565.0 (± 6.1), 571.9 (± 6.3), and 524.3 (± 6.3) μm, respectively, and for aphakic participants were 635.3 (± 14.2), 635.4 (± 14.5), 649.0 (± 13.5), and 589.1 (± 13.3) μm, respectively. CONCLUSION Compared to Pentacam and PCI, SM underestimated CCT particularly in phakic and pseudophakic children, whereas UP slightly overestimated CCT especially in phakic and aphakic children. Furthermore, Pentacam and PCI had the closest agreement. By contrast, SM had the poorest agreement with the other three methods.

Abstract
We retrospectively compared the central corneal thickness (CCT) obtained by ultrasound pachymetry (USP; SP-3000, Tomey Corp., Nagoya, Japan), non-contact tonopachy (TP) (NT-530P, Nidek Co., Ltd., Gamagori, Japan), Pentacam HR (OCULUS Inc., Wetzlar, Germany), and RTVue optical coherence tomography (OCT) (Optovue Inc., Fremont, CA, USA) in 78 eyes of 78 healthy subjects with myopia. Agreement between the measurement methods was evaluated using 95% confidence intervals for the limits of agreement (LoA). The mean CCT values were 546.9 ± 34.7, 548.1 ± 33.5, 559.2 ± 34.0, and 547.2 ± 34.8 μm for USP, non-contact TP, Pentacam, and RTVue, respectively. The thickest and the thinnest mean CCT values corresponded to those obtained by Pentacam HR and USP, respectively. Plots of the differences against the means showed the best agreement between USP and RTVue (LoA, 10.14-10.70 μm), while the largest discrepancy was observed between RTVue and Pentacam systems (LoA, -25.47-1.44 μm). Our data showed that CCT measurements using these 4 instruments were well correlated. However, the results from Pentacam differed significantly from those of the other instruments.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the agreement between the predicted and measured central corneal thickness (CCT) reduction after the small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) surgery. METHODS A total 165 patients were enrolled in this prospective study. Eighty patients with a mean spherical equivalent (SE) of -4.72 ± 1.80 Diopters (D) were treated with the FS-LASIK procedure and Eighty-five patients with a mean SE of -4.78 ± 1.63 D were treated with SMILE procedure. One eye for each patient was randomly selected and included for statistical analysis. Ultrasound pachymetry measurement and Scheimpflug camera corneal topography were performed preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively. The measured CCT reduction was calculated by comparing the preoperative examinations with postoperative examinations. Comparative statistics and linear regression analyses were performed. RESULTS The mean predicted CCT reduction was 95.02 ± 21.39 μm in FS-LASIK group and 103.49 ± 22.87 μm in SMILE group (P = .015). The prediction of laser platform was found to overestimate the measured CCT reduction for both FS-LASIK group (ultrasound 13.20 ± 9.34 μm) and SMILE group (ultrasound 13.12 ± 8.68 μm). The prediction of laser platform was found to systematically overestimate the measured CCT reduction in FS-LASIK group. In SMILE group, the difference between predicted and measured CCT reduction were found significantly related with the predicted CCT reduction (P < .001 for ultrasound; and P = .004 for Pentacam). CONCLUSION A systematic overestimation of measured CCT reduction in FS-LASIK group did not influence the refractive precision of FS-LASIK. Due to the different biomechanical distributions in post-SMILE cornea, the measured CCT reduction was influenced as the changes in refractive correction. Nomogram adjustment for high myopic correction needs further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this review was to evaluate the consistency of central corneal thickness (CCT) values reported with use of Topcon SP-2000 P and SP-3000 P non-contact specular microscopes since their introduction in 1999 with the two microscopes having been commonly used in a wide range of studies. METHODS As a primary resource, PubMed was used to search for peer-reviewed articles in any language that included CCT values obtained with non-contact specular microscopy reported for humans with nominally healthy corneas. Relevant articles were obtained and any cited publications also checked. RESULTS A total of 76 articles were identified which reported CCT on different small-to-moderate sized groups of individuals, published between 1999 and 2019. From these, an overall group mean CCT value of 0.525 ± 0.013 mm (median 0.525 mm) can be calculated. An estimated 95 % confidence interval (CI, based on 1.96 SD) would be between 0.500 and 0.550 mm. For the two Topcon models, the group mean ± SD values were 0.529 ± 0.013 mm and 0.517 ± 010 mm respectively. An assessment of the CCT data sets in relation to the reported average age indicated no statistically significant effect (p = 0.289, r = -0.129). Very similar average CCT values were also encountered in 4 other reports where these microscopes were used in large-scale population studies as well as in 2 other reports using the newer Topcon SP-1 P model. CONCLUSIONS The Topcon stand-alone non-contact specular microscopes have yielded consistent and predictable corneal thickness measures over many years.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare the measurements of intraocular pressure by two tonometers, the Icare rebound tonometer and the Goldmann applanation tonometer, in a randomised screening study. The influence of refraction and central corneal thickness on the measurements was also evaluated. METHODS Intraocular pressure was measured with rebound tonometer and Goldmann applanation tonometer in 1266 participants; refraction and central corneal thickness were also determined. One randomised eye of each participant was selected for this report's analysis. A Bland-Altman plot was used to compare the values obtained with the two devices. RESULTS The correlation between rebound tonometer and Goldmann applanation tonometer was good: the intraclass correlation coefficient (r) between the two methods was 0.735 (p < 0.001). The mean difference (rebound tonometer-Goldmann applanation tonometer) was 0.11 ± 2.3 mmHg. The difference was not statistically significant (95% confidence interval: 0.11 to 0.13, p = 0.09). With increasing central corneal thickness, not only did intraocular pressure values with both devices increase, but the difference between them also increased. Refraction (spherical equivalent) did not influence intraocular pressure or the rebound tonometer-Goldmann applanation tonometer difference. However, high astigmatism (≥2D) exerted an influence on intraocular pressure values taken with Goldmann applanation tonometer. CONCLUSION Measurements with rebound tonometer and Goldmann applanation tonometer are relatively uniform although rebound tonometer slightly overestimated intraocular pressure. Both rebound tonometer and Goldmann applanation tonometer and the difference between these devices were affected by central corneal thickness but not by refraction. Higher astigmatism affected Goldmann applanation tonometer more than rebound tonometer. It is concluded that rebound tonometer is a reliable method for measuring intraocular pressure in a population-based screening study.

Abstract
Background To evaluate the differences between the predicted and achieved lenticule thickness (ΔLT) after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery and investigate relationships between ΔLT and predicted lenticule thickness in SMILE. Methods A total of 184 eyes from 184 consecutive patients who underwent SMILE were included in this prospective study. One eye for each patient was randomly selected and included for statistical analysis. To achieve emmetropia, nomogram adds 10% correction of spherical refractive. An ultrasound pachymetry measurement and Scheimpflug camera corneal topography were obtained before and at 3 months after SMILE. The achieved lenticule thickness was calculated by comparing the preoperative examinations with postoperative examinations using ultrasound pachymetry and Pentacam software measurements. The pupil center and corneal vertex were selected as the 2 locations for measurement calculation on Pentacam. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to compare mean pachymetry values using different instruments. Linear regression analyses were performed between the VisuMax readout lenticule thicknesses and the measured maximum corneal change, between ΔLT and predicted lenticule thickness. Results On average, the achieved lenticule thickness measured with ultrasound pachymetry was 13.02 ± 8.87 μm thinner than the predicted lenticule thickness. The proportion of ΔLT in predicted values is 11.9% (ultrasound) and about 15% (Pentacam). Linear regression analysis showed significant relationships between the predicted and each achieved lenticule thickness. Each ΔLT was significantly related to predicted lenticule thickness (ultrasound: R2 = 0.242; pupil center from Pentacam: R2 = 0.230). Conclusions An overestimation of achieved lenticule thickness was evident in this study which may exclude eligible SMILE patient. Also, our results showed that 10% increase of spherical refractive correction in the nomogram is appropriate. Furthermore, clinicians should subtract 10% of the predicted lenticule thickness to calculate the residual corneal stroma bed thickness.

Abstract
Objective To compare corneal thickness (CT) measurements using the CEM-530 (Nidal,
Gamagori, Japan) and Pentacam HR (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany). Methods The CT of 209 healthy subjects (209 right eyes) aged 24 to 89 years
(71.35 ± 10.72 years) was measured at the corneal apex (CA), pupil center
(PC), and thinnest point (TP) with the Pentacam HR and at the corneal center
with the CEM-530 in random order at the same time of day. Results A good correlation but statistically significant difference was found between
the CEM-530 and Pentacam HR measurements at the CA (6.10 ± 8.12 µm,
R2 = 0.8947), PC (7.46 ± 8.57 µm, R2 = 0.8826),
and TP (12.44 ± 10.04 µm, R2 = 0.8392). Comparison of the two
devices produced the following regression formulas: y = 0.8859x + 57.644 for
the CA, y = 0.8852x +56.657 for the PC, and y = 0.8557x + 68.148 for the TP,
where x is the CT obtained with the CEM-530 and y is that obtained with the
Pentacam HR. Conclusions These findings indicate that the CEM-530 produces a thicker corneal
measurement than the Pentacam HR. The herein-proposed correcting factors are
needed to reliably compare these devices.
