Abstract
Background After 6 months, nutrient-dense, varied diets containing fruits and vegetables are crucial to supplement breastfeeding. Like many other low-income countries, Ethiopia has very low FV consumption. Zero vegetable or fruit (ZVF) consumption has been shown to significantly raise the risk of non-communicable diseases and has been ranked among the top 10 risk factors for mortality. And it is associated with poor health, an increased risk of obesity, and a higher risk of non-communicable diseases. Thus, this study's goal was to investigate the spatial distribution of ZVF consumption and its spatial determinants among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia. Methods A cross-sectional study design was employed. A total of 1,489 weighted samples were included from kids' datasets from the 2019 Ethiopian mini-demographic and health survey. STATA version 16, ArcGIS version 10.8, Kuldorff's SaTScan version 9.6, and MGWR version 2.0 software were used for analysis. Spatial regression analyses (geographical weighted regression and ordinary least squares analysis) were conducted. Models were compared using AICc and adjusted R2. A p-value of less than 0.05 was used to declare statistically significant spatial predictors, and the corresponding local coefficients were mapped. Results The spatial distribution of ZVF consumption among children aged 6-23 months was non-random in Ethiopia. Spatial scan analysis revealed a total of 120 significant clusters. Maternal education, wealth status, age of the child, place of delivery, number of under-five children in the house, and current pregnancy status were significant predictors of the spatial variation of ZVF consumption. Conclusion Significant geographic variation in ZVF consumption was found in this study throughout Ethiopia's regions. Significant predictors of the spatial variation in ZVF consumption were maternal education, wealth status, child age, place of delivery, number of under-five children in the home, and status as a pregnant woman at the time of birth. Therefore, in order to improve children's adequate consumption of fruit and vegetables, area-based interventions that can consider these significant factors into account are needed.

Abstract
Background Animal-source foods are food items that come from animals. Animal-source foods provide a variety of micronutrients that plant-source foods cannot provide to the same extent and without extra precaution. Milk, eggs, poultry, flesh meat and fish are animal-source foods mainly used in Ethiopia. Low animal-source food consumption among children and mothers is a great concern in many low-income settings. This study aimed to describe animal-source food consumption frequencies among children aged 6-24 months and their mothers in rural southern Ethiopia where livestock farming is very common. We also analysed the association between livestock ownership and animal-source food consumption among children and mothers. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 851 randomly selected households with child-mother pairs from August to November 2018. The study was conducted in the rural Dale District, southern Ethiopia. Structured and pre-tested questionnaires were used to collect data on mother and child information, livestock ownership, and animal-source foods consumption frequencies. Ordinal logistic regression analysis was used to describe associations between animal-source foods consumption and livestock ownership. Result Nearly, three-quarters (74.1%) of the households owned cows, and a quarter (25%) had goats or sheep. Dairy, egg and meat consumption among children during the past month was 91.8%, 83.0% and 26.2%, respectively. Likewise, the consumption of dairy, eggs and meat among mothers was 96.0%, 49.5% and 34.0%, respectively. The percentage of children who had not consumed any animal-source foods during the month prior to our survey was 6.6%, and the figure was 2.2% for the mothers. Dairy consumption was 1.8 times higher among children (aOR = 1.8, 95% CI [1.3-2.5]) and 3.0 times higher among mothers (aOR = 3.0, 95% CI [2.2-4.2]) in households that kept cows than in households without cows. The egg consumption frequency was positively associated with hen and goat/sheep ownership for both children and mothers. Meat consumption frequency among children was negatively associated with cow ownership (aOR = 0.66, 95% CI [0.45-0.95]); however, cow ownership was not associated with meat consumption among mothers. Conclusion Dairy products were common animal-source foods consumed by young children and mothers in the study area. However, meat consumption was low among children and mothers. Strategies like promoting the keeping of goats/sheep and hens to improve complementary feeding and mothers' nutrition are warranted in the study area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin A one of the important micronutrients that it cannot be made in the human body and must be taken from outside the body through the diet. Ensuring that vitamin A is available in any form in sufficient quantities remains a challenge, especially in regions where access to vitamin A-containing foods and healthcare interventions is limited. As a result, vitamin A deficiency (VAD) becomes a common form of micronutrient deficiency. To the best of our knowledge, there is limited evidence on determinants of good Vitamin A consumption in East African countries. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the magnitude and determinants of good vitamin A consumption in East African countries. METHODS A recent Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) of twelve East African countries were included to determine the magnitude and determinants of good vitamin A consumption. A total of 32,275 study participants were included in this study. A multilevel logistic regression model was used to estimate the association between the likelihood of good vitamin A-rich food consumption. Both community and individual levels were used as independent variables. Adjusted odds ratio and its 95% confidence interval were used to see the strength of the association. RESULT The pooled magnitude of good vitamin A consumption was 62.91% with a 95% CI of 62.3 to 63.43. The higher proportion of good vitamin A consumption 80.84% was recorded in Burundi and the smallest good vitamin A consumption 34.12% was recorded in Kenya. From the multilevel logistic regression model, women's age, marital status, maternal education, wealth index, maternal occupation, children's age in a month, media exposure, literacy rate, and parity were significantly associated with good vitamin A consumption in East Africa. CONCLUSION The magnitude of good vitamin A consumption in twelve East African countries is low. To increase good vitamin A consumption health education through the mass media and enhancing the economic status of women is recommended. Planners and implementers should give attention and priority to identified determinants to enhance good vitamin A consumption.

Abstract
In developing countries, including Ethiopia, diet-related non-communicable diseases are prevalent among the working population. Understanding this active group's dietary diversity and food consumption patterns is essential to devise alternative solutions and recommend possible improvements. This study investigates the food consumption patterns of employees of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research. A cross-sectional survey was conducted from January 1 to March 31, 2022, involving 13 different research centers of the institute situated in different agro-ecological regions of the country. A validated food frequency questionnaire and a 24-h food recall were administered to a total sample size of 355 employees. A systematic random sampling was used for data collection. Stata survey commands version 16.0 and multiple logistic regression were used to analyze the data. The research confirmed that socio-demographic determinants, income, and educational level affect the food consumption patterns of employees. The majority of employees have low consumption of foods like fish, fruits, vegetables, and animal products. Consumption of all kinds of animal products was very low on Wednesday and Friday. This result will help employees to give more attention to low-cost healthier food items, as well as institutional management bodies in designing awareness-creation campaigns and government programs to encourage the production and access of nutritious food.

Abstract
Background Inadequate micronutrients in the diet and vitamin A deficiency are worldwide public health problems. In developing regions, many preschool children are undernourished, become blind every year and died before the age of 23 months. This study was aimed to explore the spatial distribution of vitamin A rich foods intake among children aged 6–23 months and identify associated factors in Ethiopia. Methods Ethiopian Mini Demographic and Health Survey 2019 dataset with a total 1407 children aged 6–23 months was used. Data management and processing were done using STATA version 15 software and Microsoft Office Excel. ArcMap version 10.7 software was used for mapping and spatial visualization of the distribution. Spatial scan statistics was performed using SaTScan version 9.5 software for Bernoulli-based model. Multilevel mixed effect logistic regression model was employed to identify associated factors. Results Overall, 38.99% (95% CI: 36.46–41.62) of children aged 6– 23 months took vitamin A rich foods. Poor intake of vitamin A rich foods was significantly clustered Dire Dawa city, Somali and Harari regions of Ethiopia. Children aged 6–23 months lived in the primary cluster were 70% (RR = 1.70, P-value < 0.001) more likely to intake vitamin A rich foods than children lived outside the window. In the multilevel mixed effect logistic regression analysis, Primary educational status (AOR:1.42, 95% CI: 1.05, 1.93) and higher educational status (AOR:3.0, 95% CI: 1.59, 5.65) of mother, Dire Dawa (AOR:0.49, 95% CI: 0.22, 1.12) city, Afar (AOR: 0.16, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.36), Amhara (AOR: 0.37, 95% CI: 0.19, 0.71) and Somali (AOR: 0.02, 95% CI: 0.003, 0.08) regions of Ethiopia, children aged 13–23 months (AOR: 1.80, 95% CI: 1.28, 2.36), Mothers’ exposure to media (AOR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.04, 1.92) were statistically significant factors for vitamin A rich foods intake among children aged 6–23 months. Conclusions Only 4 out of ten children took vitamin A rich foods which is too low compared to the national target and significantly clustered in Ethiopia. Mother’s educational status, Region, Child age and Mother’s media exposure are significant factors vitamin A rich foods intake. Stakeholders should strengthen mothers’ education status, creating awareness for mothers on child feeding and using locally available natural resource to produce vitamin A rich foods.

Abstract
Quaternary period geological events and climatic oscillations significantly affect the geographic structure and genetic diversity of species distribution in arid northwestern China. Amygdalus mongolica is a relict and endangered shrub that occurs primarily in arid areas of northwestern China. Based on variation patterns present at three cpDNA regions (psbK-psbI, trnL-trnF and trnV) and in one nDNA sequence (ITS1-ITS4) in 174 individuals representing 15 populations, the spatial genetic structure and demographic history of A. mongolica was examined across its entire geographic range. The 17 different haplotypes and 10 ribotypes showed two lineages, distributed across the Western (Mazong Mountains, Hexi Corridor, and Alxa Left Banner) and Eastern regions (Urad Houqi, Yinshan Mountains, Urad Zhongqi, and Daqing Mountains) according to the median-joining network and the BI (Bayesian inference) and ML (Maximum likelihood) trees. AMOVA analysis demonstrated that over 65% of the observed genetic variation was related to this lineage split. The expansions of the Ulanbuhe and Tengger deserts and the eastward extension of the Yinshan Mountains since the Quaternary period likely interrupted gene flow and triggered the observed divergence in the two allopatric regions; arid landscape fragmentation accompanied by local environmental heterogeneity further increased local adaptive differentiation between the Western and Eastern groups. Based on the evidence from phylogeographical patterns and the distribution of genetic variation, A. mongolica distributed in the eastern and western regions are speculated to have experienced eastward migration along the southern slopes of the Lang Mountains and westward migration along the margins of the Ulanbuhe and Tengger deserts to the Hexi Corridor, respectively. For setting a conservation management plan, it is recommended that the south slopes of the Lang Mountains and northern Helan Mountains be identified as the two primary conservation areas, as they have high genetic variation and habitats that are more suitable.
