Abstract
Recently, ligand-promoted Au(I)/Au(III)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with aryl iodides have garnered considerable attention. Here, we report the first visible-light-driven gold-catalyzed cross-couplings of challenging aryl bromides. In the presence of a (P, N)-gold(I) catalyst and an acridinium photocatalyst under blue LED irradiation, C-O coupling of aryl bromides with carboxylic acids was achieved, and soon it was found that this photoinduced gold-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl bromides was appliable for other C-C, C-N, and C-S bond formation. Experimental and computational studies suggest that this visible-light-driven gold-catalyzed cross-couplings of aryl bromides involves two discrete photoinduced energy transfer (EnT) events: first, energy transfer (EnT) from a photosensitizer produces an excited-state gold(I) complex that allows the bottleneck oxidative addition of aryl bromides to form an aryl Au(III) complex and second, the reductive elimination of aryl-Au(III) complex to regenerate Au(I). Collectively, the new synergistic catalytic method developed here highlights the tremendous potential of photochemical gold catalysis via excited-state organogold complexes, as well as its potential to facilitate drug discovery due to the biocompatibility and mildness of the reaction conditions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION It has been reported that the extension of conjugation in chalcone scaffolds considerably enhanced the potency, selectivity, reversibility, and competitive mode of MAO-B inhibition. In this study, using the experimental results of IC50 values of fifteen halogenated conjugated dienone derivatives (MK1-MK15) against MAO-B, we developed a 3DQSAR model. METHODS Further, we created a 3D pharmacophore model in active compounds in the series. The built model selected three variables (G2U, RDF115m, RDF155m) among the 653 AlvaDesc molecular descriptors, with a r2 value of 0.87 and a Q2 cv for cross-validation equal to 0.82. The three variables were mostly associated with the direction of symmetry and the likelihood of discovering massive atoms at great distances. The evaluated molecules exhibited a good correlation between experimental and predicted data, indicating that the IC50 value of the structure MK2 was related to the interatomic distances of 15.5 Å between bromine and chloro substituents. Furthermore, the molecules in the series with the highest activity were those with enhanced second component symmetry directional index from the 3D representation, which included the structures MK5 and MK6. RESULTS Additionally, a pharmacophore hypothesis was developed and validated using the decoy Schrodinger dataset, with an ROC score of 0.87 and an HHRR 1 fitness score that ranged from 2.783 to 3.00. The MK series exhibited a significant blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability, according to exploratory analyses and in silico projections, and almost all analogues were expected to have strong BBB permeability. CONCLUSION Further DFT research revealed that electrostatics were important in the interactions with MAO-B.

Abstract
New solvated Mo(VI) complexes were isolated from the reaction of [MoO2(acac)2] with asymmetric isatin bisthiocarbohydrazone ligands. The ligands were obtained from the reaction of isatin monothiocarbohydrazone with 3,5-dibromo salicylaldehyde (L1), 3,5-dichloro salicylaldehyde (L2) and 3-chloro-5-bromo salicylaldehyde (L3), respectively. In the complexes, the ligands serve as ONS donors and coordinate to the [MoO2]2+ nucleus. The bonding sites are azomethine nitrogen atom, phenolic oxygen atom and thiol sulfur atom. The sixth coordination site is completed by an oxygen atom from an ethanol solvent. The ethanol-coordinated Mo(VI) complexes, C1-C3, [MoO2L(EtOH)] (L: L1-L3), were characterized using elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopies, and conductivity measurements. By crystallizing ethanol-solvated solid complexes from an EtOH/DMSO mixture, DMSO-solvated complexes (C4-C6) suitable for X-ray crystallography were obtained. Crystal structure analysis supports the proposed complex structures and geometries, but the ethanol in the sixth coordination site has been replaced by DMSO. When the anticarcinogenic effects of the ligands and complexes (C1-C3) on the C6 cell line were examined, it was found that the complexes showed higher activity than the ligands. The C3 complex appears to have the best anti-cancer activity compared to doxorubicin. Additionally, all compounds were determined to have high total antioxidant capacity. Data obtained from theoretical studies (DFT and docking) support experimental studies.

Abstract
This study focuses on the geometrical, electronic, and optical properties of the γ-graphyne-like novel γ-SiC nanoflake of the γ-silicon carbide (SiC) monolayer using density functional theory calculations. γ-SiC was revealed to be a stable semiconducting nanoflake confirmed by a negative cohesive energy, real vibrational frequencies, and a 1.749 eV energy gap. The adsorption of COCl2, HCN, PH3, AsH3, CNCl, and C2N2 toxic gases on the γ-SiC nanoflake is also studied, which revealed an attractive gas-nanoflake interaction with the adsorption energy ranging from -0.21 to -0.38 eV. The adsorption results in a significant charge transfer between gas-adsorbent complexes. A significant variation in the energy gap and electrical conductivity was observed due to gas adsorption. γ-SiC showed maximum sensitivity at room temperature for CNCl gas. The entire process of adsorption is exothermic and thermodynamically stable. γ-SiC showed a high absorption coefficient over 104 orders with a significant variation in the absorption peak intensity and blue peak shifting. According to the quantum theory and reduced density gradient analysis, all of the gases are physisorbed on the γ-SiC nanoflake due to van der Waals interactions. The obtained results signify the usability of γ-SiC as a potential toxic gas sensor.

Abstract
In this work, we presented a synthesis of a composite based on HAp and PEG 6000 using a new method of synthesis dissolution precipitation to be applied for application of wastewater purification from toxic metal ions. Multiple characterization methods were used to analyze the morphology and the structure of the well-prepared compounds including FT-IR, Raman, XRD, XPS, TGA and SEM were used to conduct a composite analysis. The adsorption effectiveness of this analysis towards Pb2+ and various other hazardous metal ions found in sewage was assessed. Batch experiments were conducted to optimize the various operational parameters including adsorbent dose, temperature, pH, contact time, and initial concentration. The Langmuir isotherm was used to fit the data, and it predicted monolayer adsorption with a maximum capacity of 67 mg g-1 for HAP PEG600 and 60 mg g-1 for HAp. A pseudo-second-order equation fits the adsorption process well (0.961-0.971). The thermodynamic data support the spontaneous metal bonding to the composite receptor sites. Theoretical calculations showed that the interaction strength is very strong and gets stronger when the PEG6000 is deprotonated. The results presented here are supported by evidence acquired from experiments. Theoretical computation using Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulation models showed excellent affinity of prepared foams for the model ion Pb2+ with highly negative adsorption energy values indicating vigorous interactions of Pb2+ with the adsorbate surfaces.

Abstract
Carbon nanocage structures such as fullerene, nanotubes, nanocapsules, nanopolyhedra, cones, cubes, and onions have been reported since the discovery of C60, and they offer tremendous promise for investigating materials of low dimensions in an isolated environment. Boron Nitride (BN) nanomaterials such a: nanotubes, nanocapsules, nanoparticles, and clusters have been described in several studies and are predicted to be useful as electronic devices, high heat-resistance semiconductors, nanocables, insulator lubricants, and gas storage materials. The interaction, and electronic of octahedral B12N12 nanocage cluster covalently modified from the attachment of alkyl and aryl radicals were analyzed using Density Functional Theory calculations. The work discusses for the first time to our knowledge the complete investigation of the impact of the grafted aryl and alkyl groups on the electronic, bang gap, and density of states on the B12N12. Furthermore, this is the first complete description of these radicals attaching to a surface of B12N12 nanocage cluster.

Abstract
Methyl Violet (MV) was removed from aqueous solutions by adsorption onto halloysite nanoclay (HNC) employing equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamic data, molecular modellingR (MD), and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. The chosen experimental variables were pH, temperature, starting MV concentration, contact time, and adsorbent dosage. The adsorption rate was determined to increase with increasing contact time, initial dye concentration, pH, and temperature. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D-R) isotherms were utilized to determine the adsorption capacity of HNC. The Langmuir equation matched equilibrium data better than the other models, whereas the pseudo-second-order model better described kinetic data, and thermodynamic analyses revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic, and physisorption-based. This study focused on two distinct molecular mechanics-based theoretical approaches (MC and MD). These techniques enabled a molecular comprehension of the interaction between the MV molecule and the halloysite surface. Theoretical results were consistent with experimental findings. The outcomes revealed that HNC is an excellent dye adsorbent for industrial effluents.

Abstract
Aim: To investigate the hypothesis that zeolites interfere with quorum-sensing (QS) systems of Chromobacterium violaceum and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by adsorbing N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) signal molecules. Methods: QS inhibition by zeolite 4A was investigated using an AHL-based bioreporter assay. The adsorption of the AHLs was evaluated by performing inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy and confirmed by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamic simulations. Results: Zeolite 4A reduced the violacein production in C. violaceum by over 90% and the biofilm formation, elastase and pyocyanin production in P. aeruginosa by 87, 68 and 98%, respectively. Conclusion: Zeolite 4A disrupts the QS systems of C. violaceum and P. aeruginosa by means of adsorbing 3-oxo-C6-AHL and 3-oxo-C12-AHL signaling molecules and can be developed as a novel QS jammer to combat P. aeruginosa-related infections.

Abstract
To better understand graphene and its interactions with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), density-functional-theory (DFT) computations were used. Adsorption energy is likely to rise with the number of aromatic rings in the adsorbates. The DFT results revealed that the distance between the PAH molecules adsorbed onto the G ranged between 2.47 and 3.98 Å depending on the structure of PAH molecule. The Non-Covalent Interactions (NCI) plot supports the concept that van der Waals interactions were involved in PAH adsorption onto the Graphene (G) structure. Based on the DFT-calculated adsorption energy data, a rapid and reliable method employing an empirical model of a quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) was created and validated for estimating the adsorption energies of PAH molecules onto graphene.

Abstract
Alkylphosphonic acids are well known for their ability to form self-assembled monolayers on hydroxide surfaces. A crucial step to understanding fundamentally how these surfaces are created is the elucidation of the interaction process that leads to such interface creation. In this study, we employed electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics to understand this process. The interaction with the Cu(111) surface of three different alkylphosphonic acids (hexyl-, octyl- and decylphosphonic acids) is evaluated in an aqueous acidic and in an ethanol solution by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations, while EIS measurements are used to put in evidence the impact of the layer made in ethanol on copper protection. Nyquist diagrams of copper samples modified with an alkylphosphonic monolayer showed a higher polarization resistance that mitigates the copper corrosion in an aqueous acid medium. The phase–frequency Bode plots had higher and broader phase maxima for a modified copper surface with phosphonic moieties, which confirmed the ability of this organic layer to prevent copper corrosion.

Abstract
The corrosion behavior of mild steel in a 1 M aqueous sulfuric acid medium in the presence and absence of the drug Pantoprazole was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization and quantum chemical calculations as well as Monte Carlo and molecular dynamic simulations. The potentiodynamic experiments indicated that this molecule, as a result of its adsorption on a mild steel surface, functioned as a mixed inhibitor. The goal of the study was to use theoretical calculations to acquire a better understanding of how inhibition works. The adsorption behavior of the examined compounds on the Fe (1 1 0) surface was calculated using a Monte Carlo simulation. Furthermore, the molecules were studied using density functional theory (DFT), especially the PBE functional, to determine the relationship between the molecular structure and the corrosion inhibition behavior of the chemical under research. The adsorption energies of Pantoprazole (in its three different protonation states) iron were calculated more precisely using molecular mechanics with periodic boundary conditions (PBC). The predicted theoretical parameters were found to be in agreement with the experimental data, which was a considerable help in understanding the corrosion inhibition mechanism displayed by this chemical.

Abstract
Surface modification is a hot topic in electrochemistry and material sciences because it affects the way materials are used. In this paper, a method for covalently attaching carboxyphenyl (PhCOOH) groups to a gold electrode is presented. These groups were grafted onto the electrode surface electrochemically via reduction of aryldiazonium salt. The resulting grafted surface was characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV) before and after the functionalization procedure to validate the presence of the grafted layer. The grafting of PhCOOH groups was confirmed by analyzing electrode thickness and composition by ellipsometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that the grafted layers provide a stable platform and resolved, for the first time, their interactions with oxygen.

Abstract
Disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate salt is known for its excellent coordinating properties with the metal ions. The present study deals with the investigation of the prepared Disodium EDTA functionalized chitosan in corrosion inhibition for mild steel in 1 M HCl. The modified chitosan was characterized by spectral studies, thermal analysis, and Zeta potential studies. The corrosion inhibition efficiency (%) was evaluated using the gravimetric method and electrochemical studies. The electrochemical studies included potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance methods. The modified chitosan polymer showed an inhibition efficiency of 96.63% for 500 ppm at 303 K. Adsorption process obeyed Langmuir isotherm. Experimental results and theoretical calculations endorsed initial physisorption followed by a chemisorption process. Surface characterization studies supported the formation of a protective film that enabled the inhibition process. Density functional theory, Monte Carlo studies, and molecular dynamics simulation studies show a good agreement with the experimental results. Two-way Analysis of Variance was performed to test the influence of immersion period and inhibitor concentration on the corrosion rate using the statistical software IBM SPSS 20.0. A quartic model was generated as the best fit with the highest R2 value of 0.973. Design Expert software was employed for statistical modeling fit.

Abstract
AbstractThis study is focused on the adsorption of hexavalent chromium ions Cr(vi) using graphene oxide (GO). The GO was prepared by chemical oxidation (Hummers method) of graphite particles. The synthesized GO adsorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy. It was used for the adsorption of Cr(vi) ions. The theoretical calculations based on density functional theory and Monte Carlo calculations were used to explore the preferable adsorption site, interaction type, and adsorption energy of GO toward the Cr(vi) ions. Moreover, the most stable adsorption sites were used to calculate and plot noncovalent interactions. The obtained results are important as they give molecular insights regarding the nature of the interaction between GO surface and the adsorbent Cr(vi) ions. The found adsorption energy of −143.80 kcal/mol is indicative of the high adsorptive tendency of this material. The adsorption capacity value of GO toward these ions is q = 240.361 mg/g.

Abstract
Finding novel strategies for surface modification is of great interest in electrochemistry and material sciences. In this study, we present a strategy for modification of a gold electrode through covalent attachment of triazole (TA) groups. Triazole groups were electrochemically grafted at the surface of the electrode by a reduction of in situ generated triazolediazonium cations. The resulting grafted surface was characterized before and after the functionalization process by different electrochemical methods (cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) confirming the presence of the grafted layer. The grafting of TA on the electrode surface was confirmed using analysis of surface morphology (by atomic force microscopy), the thickness of the grafted layer (by ellipsometry) and its composition (by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations imply that the grafted triazole offers a stronger platform than the grafted aryl layers.
