Abstract
Background: Recent studies have indicated that cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) is closely linked to dyslipidemia and early-onset coronary artery disease (EOCAD). This study is aimed at investigating the impacts of CD36 gene variants on lipid profiles and EOCAD risk. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Central, CINAHL, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched until June 15, 2024. Results: In total, 25 studies (11,494 individuals) were included for the analysis. The A allele carriers of the rs1761667 variant had higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and higher EOCAD risk than noncarriers. In contrast, the G allele carriers of the rs1049673 and rs3211956 variants had lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and lower EOCAD risk than noncarriers. Subgroup analysis indicated that the antiatherosclerotic impact and reduced EOCAD risk were primarily observed in Chinese with rs1049673 and rs3211956. Conclusions: The rs1761667, rs1049673, and rs3211956 variants of the CD36 gene have significant impacts on lipid levels and may serve as genetic markers for the risk of EOCAD primarily in Chinese. The impacts of CD36 variants on EOCAD risk are mediated, at least partly, by dyslipidemia. Genetic screening of CD36 gene variants may be helpful for early intervention or prevention of EOCAD in individuals with high risk factors.

Abstract
Introduction CD36 is a receptor involved in physiologic, metabolic and pathologic processes. Due to its affinity for long-chain fatty acids, it has been postulated as a taste receptor of fatty taste. In this review, the emerging genetic evidence linking CD36 to oral fat perception is analyzed. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, published articles from 2000 to 2022 were considered. Multiple studies have shown an association of some genetic variants in CD36 with fat foods preferences and it has been suggested that these variants can modify oral fat perception thresholds however the evidence is still heterogeneous; this can be explained by the genetic diversity of populations, the nutritional status and participant's characteristics, as well as other methodological aspects. Other factors involved in oral fat perception were and identified and discussed including the interaction with other flavors, hormones, and epigenetic factors. The conclusion is that the evidence supporting the role of CD36 as a dietary lipid receptor, the role of its genetic variants in fat acids oral perception thresholds and food preferences is intermediate level and more investigations are necessary in other populations with large number of participants as well as considering the interaction between different hormones and the expression of CD36.

Abstract
Several studies have examined the association between CD36 rs1761667 polymorphism with cardiometabolic risk factors and metabolic syndrome (MetS). This study aimed to investigate the interactions between rs1761667 polymorphism and dietary patterns on the cardiometabolic risk factors and the risk of MetS in apparently healthy individuals aged 20-70 years. Food consumption data were acquired using a validated semi-quantitative FFQ. Dietary patterns were identified by factor analysis. CD36 rs1761667 was genotyped by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The gene-diet interaction was detected by the general linear model or logistic regression. Significant or marginally significant interactions were observed between healthy dietary pattern (HDP) and CD36 rs1761667 on weight (P = 0·006), BMI (P = 0·009), waist circumference (P = 0·005), hip circumference (P = 0·06), body muscle percentage (P = 0·02), body fat percentage (P = 0·09), TAG-glucose index (P = 0·057), atherogenic index of plasma (P = 0·07), the risk of MetS (P = 0·02), risk of abdominal obesity (P = 0·02) and elevated blood pressure (P = 0·07). Besides, a gene-diet interaction was detected between the traditional dietary pattern and rs1761667 variants on odds of hypertriglyceridaemia (P = 0·02). The adherence to HDP was associated with a lower weight, BMI and higher odds of HDL-cholesterol only in A-allele carriers. In conclusion, adherence to HDP (a diet with high fibre, fish and dairy products) can be more effective on some cardiometabolic risk factors and risk of MetS components in the A-allele carrier than the GG genotype of rs1761667 polymorphism. However, future studies are required to shed light on this issue.

Abstract
Obesity and overweight represent a growing health problem worldwide. Genes regulating the intake and metabolism of different nutrients can positively or negatively influence the efficacy of nutritional interventions against obesity and its complications. The aim of this study was to assess changes in anthropometric and clinical parameters and the adherence to a Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) over time in relation to nutrigenetic variants in overweight or obese subjects affected by Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) or dysglycemia, who were included in a nutritional program. A total of 23 subjects were included in this study. Clinical parameters, physical activity levels, and the adherence to a MedDiet were evaluated at baseline, at 6 (T6), and at 12 months (T12) during and after a diet/lifestyle intervention. In a single blood sample from each subject, rs1984112 (A>G) and rs1761667 (G>A) in CD36; rs7950226 (G>A) in BMAL1; and rs1801260 (A>G), rs4864548 (A>G), and rs3736544 (G>A) in CLOCK were genotyped with Real-Time PCR. Significant associations were observed between CD36 rs1761667 and weight (p = 0.025), hip circumference (p = 0.042), triglycerides (p = 0.047), and HbA1c (p = 0.012) at baseline. Moreover, the genotype AA in CD36 rs1761667 was significantly associated with a lower BMI when compared to G carriers at baseline, at T6, and also at T12. In addition, subjects with the AA genotype at CD36 rs1984112 had significantly lower levels of HbA1c (p = 0.027) than the GG and AG genotypes at baseline. These results show that variants in CD36 can have an impact on anthropometric and clinical parameters in overweight or obese subjects affected by T2D or dysglycemia, and that it might influence the success of the diet/lifestyle intervention.

Abstract
Background Atherosclerosis plays an important role in the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). CD36 is a scavenger receptor involved in lipid metabolism. Some single‐nucleotide variants in the non‐coding region could indirectly alter the expression and the function of the protein. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the gene and protein expression associated with CD36 variants (rs1194182;C > G; rs1049654;C > A, rs1334512;G > T, and rs3211892;G > A) in ACS patients from the western Mexican population. Methods We recruited 310 ACS patients and 308 subjects in the control group (CG). Genotyping was determined by TaqMan SNP genotyping assays. CD36 expression at the mRNA level was quantified by TaqMan gene expression assays. Soluble CD36 (sCD36) was measured by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. Results We show that rs1194182G > C variant provides a protective effect with a 1.7‐fold lower susceptibility to develop ACS (p = 0.03); however, this association was masked by diabetes and dyslipidemia. We observed a higher sCD36 concentration in patient with ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) compared with patients with unstable angina (UA) (p = 0.038). Likewise, in diabetic patients versus non‐diabetic (p < 0.001). We observed in patients an increase in CD36 mRNA expression (1.91 times higher) than in the CG (p = 0.02). Conclusion The rs1194182 seems to be associated with diabetes in a risky manner, in ACS patients and protective for dyslipidemia in both groups. The concentration of sCD36 seems to be associated with the clinical spectrum of the ACS patients and the presence of diabetes, since patients with STEMI present significantly elevated level compared with UA.

Abstract
The cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) is one of the main receptors implicated in the pathogenesis of the cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to assess the association between CD36 rs1761667 polymorphism and cardiometabolic risk factors including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C, blood pressure and fasting blood glucose (FBG). PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, web of science, and Google Scholar were searched up to December 2021. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were conducted to explore sources of heterogeneity. Eighteen eligible studies (6317 participants) were included in the study. In the overall analysis, a significant association was found between rs1761667 polymorphism of CD36 and TG in allelic (p < 0.001), recessive (p = 0.001) and homozygous (p = 0.006) models. A relationship between this polymorphism and HDL-C and FBG level was observed in the recessive genetic model. In the subgroup analysis, the A allele was associated with impaired lipid profiles (TC, LDL-C and HDL-C) in the Asian population. The influences of health status, design of the study, confounders, and other sources of heterogeneity should be considered when interpreting present findings. Cohort studies with large sample size and in different ethnicities are needed to confirm the relationship between rs1761667 SNP and cardiometabolic risk factors.

Abstract
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the most common severe cardiovascular diseases. Competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) play critical roles in complex diseases. However, our understanding of the dysregulated functions of ceRNAs in CHD remains limited. Here, we systematically analyzed the alterations of ceRNAs and identified the specific functions based on dysregulated modules from the ceRNA network. A total of 2457 significantly differential expressed genes and 212 differential expressed lncRNAs were identified. We got 76679 regulator relationship between different expression genes and miRNAs and 336 regulator relationship between differential expressed lncRNAs and miRNAs. We constructed the ceRNA network and selected five dysregulated modules. Furthermore, CHD specific functions based on dysregulated modules from the ceRNA network were identified, including histone acetylation, platelet degranulation, cAMP-dependent protein kinase complex, xenobiotic transport and so on. Our results will provide novel insight for a better understanding of the mechanism of ceRNAs and facilitate the identification of novel diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers in CHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The CD36 gene is a candidate for sensory detection of fatty acids and has been associated with individual differences in fat preferences and consumption. Excess adiposity may compromise sensory detection, but few studies have examined whether associations between CD36 variants and fat consumption differ between underweight/normal weight (UW/NW) and overweight/obese (OW/OB) individuals. METHODS Diet (assessed by food frequency questionnaire), genetic (nine variants), body mass index (BMI), lifestyle and biomarker data were obtained from the CARTaGENE biobank (n = 12,065), a Quebec cohort of middle-aged adults. Primary outcome variables included intakes (%kcal/day) of total, saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated (PUFA) fatty acids. Secondary outcome variables included consumption (servings/day) of four food categories with high-fat content (added fats and oils, high-fat foods, desserts and MUFA- and PUFA-rich foods) and biomarkers of chronic disease. Multivariable regression models stratified by BMI category were used to assess associations between CD36 variants and outcome variables. RESULTS Among UW/NW, rs1049654 and rs10499859 were associated with higher intakes of total fat, MUFA and PUFA (all P < 0.05), while rs1527483 and rs3211956 were associated with higher SFA (P = 0.0278) and lower PUFA (P = 0.0466) intake, respectively. Rs1527483 and rs3211956 were also associated with higher consumption of high-fat foods and desserts (all P < 0.05). Among OW, rs1054516 and rs3173798 were associated with higher SFA intake (both P < 0.05), and rs1054516 was also associated with higher serum triglycerides (P = 0.0065). CONCLUSIONS CD36 variants are associated with habitual fat consumption, which may play a role in subsequent associations with chronic-disease biomarkers. Associations differ by BMI status and dietary fat type.

Abstract
The founding member of the lipoprotein receptor family, low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) plays a major role in the atherogenesis through the receptor-mediated endocytosis of LDL particles and regulation of cholesterol homeostasis. Since the discovery of the LDLR, many other structurally and functionally related receptors have been identified, which include low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP)1, LRP5, LRP6, very low-density lipoprotein receptor, and apolipoprotein E receptor 2. The scavenger receptor family members, on the other hand, constitute a family of pattern recognition proteins that are structurally diverse and recognize a wide array of ligands, including oxidized LDL. Among these are cluster of differentiation 36, scavenger receptor class B type I and lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1. In addition to the initially assigned role as a mediator of the uptake of macromolecules into the cell, a large number of studies in cultured cells and in in vivo animal models have revealed that these lipoprotein receptors participate in signal transduction to modulate cellular functions. This review highlights the signalling pathways by which these receptors influence the process of atherosclerosis development, focusing on their roles in the vascular cells, such as macrophages, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and platelets. Human genetics of the receptors is also discussed to further provide the relevance to cardiovascular disease risks in humans. Further knowledge of the vascular biology of the lipoprotein receptors and their ligands will potentially enhance our ability to harness the mechanism to develop novel prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
CD36, also known as the scavenger receptor B2, is a multifunctional receptor widely expressed in various organs. CD36 plays a crucial role in the uptake of long-chain fatty acids, the main metabolic substrate in myocardial tissue. The maturation and transportation of CD36 is regulated by post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, glycosylation, and palmitoylation. CD36 is decreased in pathological cardiac hypertrophy caused by ischaemia-reperfusion and pressure overload, and increased in diabetic cardiomyopathy and atherosclerosis. Deficiency of CD36 alleviates diabetic cardiomyopathy and atherosclerosis, while overexpression of CD36 eliminates ischaemia-reperfusion damage, together suggesting that CD36 is closely associated with the progression of cardiovascular diseases and may be a new therapeutic target. This review summarizes the regulation and post-translational modifications of CD36 and evaluates its role in cardiovascular diseases and its potential as a therapeutic target.

Abstract
Obese subjects have shown a preference for dietary lipids. A recent collection of evidence has proposed that a variant in the CD36 gene plays a significant role in this pathway. We assessed the association between the orosensory detection of a long-chain fatty acid, i.e. oleic acid (OA), and genetic polymorphism of the lipid taste sensor CD36 in obese and normal-weight subjects. Adult participants were recruited in the fasting condition. They were invited to fat taste perception sessions, using emulsions containing OA and according to the three-alternative forced-choice (3-AFC) method. Genomic DNA was used to determine the polymorphism (SNP rs 1761667) of the CD36 gene. Obese (n 50; BMI 34⋅97 (sd 4⋅02) kg/m2) exhibited a significantly higher oral detection threshold for OA (3⋅056 (sd 3⋅53) mmol/l) than did the normal-weight (n 50; BMI 22⋅16 (sd 1⋅81) kg/m2) participants (1⋅20 (sd 3⋅23) mmol/l; P = 0⋅007). There was a positive correlation between OA detection thresholds and BMI in all subjects; evenly with body fat percentage (BF%). AA genotype was more frequent in the obese group than normal-weight group. OA detection thresholds were much higher for AA and AG genotypes in obese subjects compared with normal-weight participants. Higher oral detection thresholds for fatty acid taste are related to BMI, BF% and not always to CD36 genotype.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to detect potential gender-specific associations between some common CD36 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and the lipid profile, as well as the susceptibility to premature multi-vessel coronary artery heart disease (CHD) in the Han population of Northern China. METHODS A systematic three-step study process was employed to detect associations between CD36 gene variants and blood lipid profiles, as well as premature multi-vessel CHD in a gender-specific manner. RESULTS The current study documented the following novel findings: (I) the full population-based association study in 329 Northern Han Chinese showed that four common CD36 polymorphisms were significantly related to extreme lipid profiles, with statistically significant effects based on gender interactions (rs1049673: P = 0.001; rs7755: P = 0.008; rs3211956: P = 0.034; and rs3173798: P = 0.004); (ii) these statistically significant effects could be decomposed into statistically significant atherogenic effects in males, but non-significant non-atherogenic effects in females; (iii) the results of logistic regression analysis indicated that current smoking status, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, and type-2 diabetes were independent risk factors for premature multi-vessel CHD phenotype (P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS Four common CD36 polymorphisms (rs1049673, rs7755, rs3211956, and rs3173798) were identified to be significantly associated with extreme lipid profiles and had statistically opposite gender-specific clinical lipid profile effects. Thus, the 3'-untranslated regions (3'-UTR) CD36 SNPs could be a novel target for metabolic abnormalities in males of the Han nationality from Northern China.

Abstract
At present, personalized diets, which take into account consumer genetic characteristics, are growing popular. Nutrigenetics studies the effect of gene variations on metabolism and nutrigenomics, which branches off further and investigates how nutrients and food compounds affect genes. This work deals with the mutations affecting the assimilation of metabolites, contributing to nutrigenetic studies. We searched for the genes responsible for eating preferences which allow for the tailoring of personalized diets. Presently, genetic nutrition is growing in demand, as it contributes to the prevention and/or rehabilitation of non-communicable diseases, both monogenic and polygenic. In this work, we showed single-nucleotide polymorphisms in genes-missense mutations that change the functions of coded proteins, resulting in a particular eating preferences or a disease. We studied the genes influencing food preferences-particularly those responsible for fats and carbohydrates absorption, food intolerance, metabolism of vitamins, taste sensations, oxidation of xenobiotics, eating preferences and food addiction. As a result, 34 genes were identified that affect eating preferences. Significant shortcomings were found in the methods/programs for developing personalized diets that are used today, and the weaknesses were revealed in the development of nutrigenetics (inconsistency of data on SNP genes, ignoring population genetics data, difficult information to understand consumer, etc.). Taking into account all the shortcomings, an approximate model was proposed in the review for selecting an appropriate personalized diet. In the future, it is planned to develop the proposed model for the compilation of individual diets.

Abstract
Background CD36 is associated with regulation of lipid metabolism, atherosclerosis, and blood pressure. Moreover, its variation may be involved in the development of hypertension and/or coronary artery disease (CAD). The present study was conducted to investigate the possible association of CD36 rs1761667 (G > A) polymorphism with hypertension and/or CAD in the southeastern of Iran. Methods The present observational study was composed of 238 subjects who were admitted for coronary angiography, and divided into four groups: 1) hypertensive without CAD (H-Tens, n = 52); 2) hypertensive with CAD (CAD + H-Tens, n = 57); 3) CAD without hypertension (CAD, n = 65); and 4) non-hypertensive without CAD as the control group (Ctrl, n = 64). The CD36 rs1761667 polymorphism was genotyped with PCR-RFLP method. Association between CD36 rs1761667 genotypes and the risk of CAD and hypertension was assessed using multinomial regression by adjusting for age, sex, creatinine, fasting blood sugar (FBS), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Results In the present study, minor allele (A) frequency was 0.36. The genotype, but not allele frequency of the CD36 rs1761667 was significantly different between the four study groups (p = 0.003). Furthermore, using a recessive inheritance model CD36 rs1761667 polymorphism was significantly associated with an increased risk of CAD with hypertension (OR = 5.677; 95% CI = 1.053–30.601; p = 0.043). However, using the dominant model of CD36 rs1761667 had a protective effect on H-Tens and CAD patients. Conclusion The present findings revealed an association between CD36 rs1761667 polymorphism and susceptibility to hypertension and/or CAD in a southeastern Iranian population.

Abstract
Cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) is a membrane receptor expressed on a wide variety of human cells. CD36 polymorphisms are reportedly associated with oral fat perception, dietary intake and metabolic disorders. The present study examined associations of two CD36 polymorphisms (rs1761667 and rs1527483) and dietary fat intake, and metabolic phenotypes in a Japanese population. This cross-sectional study was conducted based on clinical information collected from health check-ups in Japan (n 495). Dietary nutrient intake was estimated from a validated short FFQ and adjusted for total energy intake using the residual method. Mean blood pressure was calculated from systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Hypertension was defined as SBP ≥ 130 mmHg and/or DBP ≥ 85 mmHg, or use of antihypertensive drugs. Genotyping was performed using PCR with confronting two-pair primers method. Mean age was 63·4 (sd 9·9) years. Individuals with the AA genotype showed higher total fat and MUFA intake (standardised β = 0·110 and 0·087, P = 0·01 and 0·05, respectively) compared with the GG and GA genotypes. For metabolic phenotypes, the AA genotype of rs1761667 had a lower blood pressure compared with the GG genotype (standardised β = -0·123, P = 0·02). Our results suggested that the AA genotype of rs1761667 in the CD36 gene was associated with higher intake of total fat and MUFA and lower risk of hypertension in a Japanese population.

Abstract
CD36 gene encodes a membrane glycoprotein (type B scavenger receptor) present on the surface of many types of cells and having multiple cellular functions ranging from angiogenesis to gustatory perception of fatty acids. Using a case control genetic association approach we have analyzed selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP's) in a total of 859 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and controls and have identified the allele A in rs3211892 polymorphism of CD36 gene as significantly increasing the risk of AD. Additionally we have investigated, in the same sample of control subjects and patients, SNP's in ApoE gene and confirmed that the previously identified AD-associated SNP's indeed increased the risk and decreased the age of onset of AD as reported by others earlier. Based on the current knowledge of CD36 biochemistry we propose that the AD risk-imparting variants of CD36 alter cholesterol homeostasis, oxidation stress or induce pathological inflammatory cascades. The SNP rs3211892 has previously been associated with heart disease and other conditions but the present study is the first to identify a significant association between variations in CD36 gene and the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
Background Chronic inflammation has been widely considered to be the major risk factor of coronary heart disease (CHD). The goal of our study was to explore the possible association with CHD for inflammation-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) involved in cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) dinucleotides. A total of 784 CHD patients and 739 non-CHD controls were recruited from Zhejiang Province, China. Using the Sequenom MassARRAY platform, we measured the genotypes of six inflammation-related CpG-SNPs, including IL1B rs16944, IL1R2 rs2071008, PLA2G7 rs9395208, FAM5C rs12732361, CD40 rs1800686, and CD36 rs2065666). Allele and genotype frequencies were compared between CHD and non-CHD individuals using the CLUMP22 software with 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations. Results Allelic tests showed that PLA2G7 rs9395208 and CD40 rs1800686 were significantly associated with CHD. Moreover, IL1B rs16944, PLA2G7 rs9395208, and CD40 rs1800686 were shown to be associated with CHD under the dominant model. Further gender-based subgroup tests showed that one SNP (CD40 rs1800686) and two SNPs (FAM5C rs12732361 and CD36 rs2065666) were associated with CHD in females and males, respectively. And the age-based subgroup tests indicated that PLA2G7 rs9395208, IL1B rs16944, and CD40 rs1800686 were associated with CHD among individuals younger than 55, younger than 65, and over 65, respectively. Conclusions In conclusion, all the six inflammation-related CpG-SNPs (rs16944, rs2071008, rs12732361, rs2065666, rs9395208, and rs1800686) were associated with CHD in the combined or subgroup tests, suggesting an important role of inflammation in the risk of CHD.

Abstract
Identifying latent structure in high-dimensional genomic data is essential for exploring biological processes. Here, we consider recovering gene co-expression networks from gene expression data, where each network encodes relationships between genes that are co-regulated by shared biological mechanisms. To do this, we develop a Bayesian statistical model for biclustering to infer subsets of co-regulated genes that covary in all of the samples or in only a subset of the samples. Our biclustering method, BicMix, allows overcomplete representations of the data, computational tractability, and joint modeling of unknown confounders and biological signals. Compared with related biclustering methods, BicMix recovers latent structure with higher precision across diverse simulation scenarios as compared to state-of-the-art biclustering methods. Further, we develop a principled method to recover context specific gene co-expression networks from the estimated sparse biclustering matrices. We apply BicMix to breast cancer gene expression data and to gene expression data from a cardiovascular study cohort, and we recover gene co-expression networks that are differential across ER+ and ER- samples and across male and female samples. We apply BicMix to the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) pilot data, and we find tissue specific gene networks. We validate these findings by using our tissue specific networks to identify trans-eQTLs specific to one of four primary tissues.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have demonstrated that CD36 is involved in the progression of atherosclerosis. Associations between rs1761667 polymorphisms of the CD36 gene and susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD) are not obvious. METHODS We studied the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs1761667 of CD36 gene and the risk of coronary atherosclerosis in a case-control study composed of 71 CAD patients and 76 healthy controls by assessment of allele frequencies and genotype distributions using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the allele discrimination technique. Additionally, we detected CD36 expression by flow cytometry. RESULTS The distribution of rs1761667 genotypes between the two groups was significantly different (P<0.001), with the frequency of the AG genotype being significantly higher in the CAD group than in the control group (P<0.001). The expression level of CD36 in the CAD group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.001), with significant differences in the CAD patients with an AG genotype compared with those with an AA and GG genotype (P<0.001). The plasma levels (mg/dL) of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the CAD group were much higher than that in the control group (P<0.001). On the other hand, the plasma LDL levels in CAD patients with the AG genotype were remarkably higher than those with the GG and AA genotypes (P=0.046) and AG genotype was significantly more prevalent among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) patients (P<0.05). After adjusted logistic regression analysis, the AG genotype of rs1761667 was associated with an increased risk of CAD (OR=17.97, 95% CI, 3.19-87.85, P=0.001). CONCLUSIONS The AG genotype of the rs1761667 polymorphism in the CD36 gene may be involved in CAD pathogenesis as well as increased body mass index (BMI), T2DM and MetS in the Sohag population of Egypt.

Abstract
Growing number of evidences have suggested that oral fat sensing, mediated by a glycoprotein CD36 (cluster of differentiation 36), plays a significant role in the development of obesity. Indeed, a decreased expression of CD36 in some obese subjects is associated with high dietary fat intake. In the present study, we examined whether an increase in body mass index (BMI) is associated with altered oleic acid lingual detection thresholds and blood lipid profile in young Algerian teenagers (n = 165). The obese teenagers (n = 83; 14.01 ± 0.19 years; BMI z-score 2.67 ± 0.29) exhibited higher lingual detection threshold for oleic acid than lean participants (n = 82, 13.92 ± 0.23 years; BMI z-score 0.03 ± 0.0001). We also studied the association between rs1761667 polymorphism of CD36 gene and obesity. The AA and AG genotypes were more frequent in obese teenagers, whereas GG genotype was more common in lean participants. The A-allele frequency was higher in obese teenagers than that in lean children. We report that rs1761667 polymorphism of CD36 gene and oro-gustatory thresholds for fat might play a significant role in the development of obesity in young teenagers.

Abstract
AIMS This study was designed to analyze the level of soluble CD36 (sCD36) in both plasma and urine of type 2 diabetic patients with and without microalbuminuria/macroalbuminuria. METHODS Study subjects (n=20 each) comprised of those with normal glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with normoalbuminiria, T2DM with microalbuminuria and T2DM with macroalbuminuria. The biochemical parameters were analyzed using auto-analyzer, and the level of sCD36 was estimated using an in-house Sandwich ELISA. RESULTS The presence of sCD36 has been identified for the first time in the urine sample. Significant increase in the level of sCD36 was observed in both plasma and urine of diabetic patients with microalbuminuria (P<0.01) and macroalbuminuria (P<0.001). Positive correlation of sCD36 with the kidney markers such as urea, creatinine and eGFR confirmed the association of sCD36 with kidney damage in diabetic patients. Microalbuminuria, which is clinically used as a biomarker for nephropathy showed a strong positive correlation with urine sCD36 (r=0.642; P<0.001) and plasma sCD36 (r=0.498; P<0.001) in Pearson correlation analysis, which was further substantiated in stepwise multiple regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS Our study implies a plausible prognostic/adjuvant biomarker role of soluble CD36 for diabetic nephropathy.
