Geropalliative Caring Model analysis and assessment according to Fawcett's criteria

OBJECTIVES

To analyze and assess Lee Geropaliative Caring Model according to Fawcett's criteria.

METHOD

A theoretical-reflective study about the Geropaliative Caring Model. The analysis resulted in a detailed review of the scope, context and content of a situation-specific theory, in order to determine aspects related to nursing practice and research, and assessment addressed the concrete concepts developed in theory, their significance, internal consistency, parsimony, testability and empirical and pragmatic adequacy in nursing as a discipline.

RESULTS

Based on the analysis, a situation-specific theory was used based on the science of care and aimed at caring for older adults undergoing palliation and their families, structured into four fields, namely: (1) aligning care; (2) keeping safe; (3) comforting body/mind/spirit; and (4) facilitating transitions.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

The analyzed and assessed theory leads to a structure that includes well-defined, delimited and interrelated concepts, based on the science of care as a grand theory that allowed Geropaliative Care Model derivation.

Praxis Model for Technology Development: a participatory approach

OBJECTIVE

To present the Praxis model for Technology Development validated content and appearance.

METHOD

A methodological study with validity of a nursing research model, carried out from March to September 2022. A total of 26 research nurses from all regions of Brazil participated. The model items were considered relevant and reliable when the Content Validity Index Confidence Interval was ≥ 0.8 in just one round. When minor, modifications or deletions were made, as suggested by specialists.

RESULTS

The model was operationalized in the pragmatic, productive/artistic, experimental and revolutionary phases. Its assessment was considered relevant by judges, obtaining an average index of 0.950 for its content and 0.825 for appearance.

CONCLUSION

The praxis model presents theoretical clarity, a relevant and applicable approach in technological development research in nursing.

Emergency response ability training of nursing students in the emergency department under COVID-19 epidemic situation-expert consensus of evidence-based practice and Delphi method

OBJECTIVE

To construct standardized training procedures and measures for emergency nursing students in COVID-19 epidemic setting so as to improve their ability to deal with emergencies.

METHODS

A total of 75 nursing students who were interns in the emergency department of Lu'an People's Hospital of Anhui Province from August 2021 to July 2022 were prospectively selected. Based on the evidence-based methodology and Delphi method, the best evidence for improving the emergency ability of nursing students in emergency department was obtained by systematically retrieving databases such as Web of Science, Cochrane Library and China Knowledge Network. Through two rounds of Delphi expert consultation and consulting experts' opinions, the training plan for emergency ability of nursing students in emergency department under COVID-19 epidemic situation was finally determined, and the effect of the training plan after its implementation was evaluated.

RESULTS

The scores of prevention ability, preparation ability and rescue ability of nursing students increased after training (P<0.05). After training, the nursing students' humanistic care ability, theory test score, operation skill score and condition grading ability score also increased (P<0.05). Additionally, task analysis, self-motivated belief, self-evaluation, self-monitoring and regulation, and total score of nursing students all increased after training (P<0.05). The scores of each dimension in the Chinese Version of Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CTDI-CV) scale after training were higher than those before training (P<0.05). Moreover, after training, the correct rate of nursing students' cognition on hospital epidemic prevention and control and the patients' total satisfaction degree to the nursing students' diagnosis and treatment services both increased (P<0.05).

CONCLUSION

The content of the training program for emergency ability of nursing students in emergency department under the COVID-19 epidemic based on the expert consensus of evidence-based and Delphi method was reliable and practical, which helped to improve the emergency ability of nursing students and the correct understanding of the hospital epidemic prevention and control, fully inspired the active learning ability, and enhanced the humanistic care ability and operational skills, and the patient satisfaction was high.

Nursing protocol in chronic kidney disease prevention in older adults in primary care

OBJECTIVES

to develop a protocol for Nursing Process operationalization in approaching older adults with vulnerability to chronic kidney disease in Primary Health Care, based on Neuman's stressors.

METHODS

a methodological study, carried out in two stages: 1) synthesis of evidence using an inductive strategy (mixed method study) and 2) protocol development to support the nursing process operationalization with older adults enrolled in a Basic Health Unit, using a deductive strategy (Neuman's stressor concepts, NANDA, NIC, and NOC taxonomies, Risner's line of reasoning, and cross-mapping), described according to A Step-by-Step Guide to Developing Protocols.

RESULTS

102 older adults participated, and 17 diagnoses, 34 interventions and 26 nursing outcomes were identified.

CONCLUSIONS

the protocol developed is a technology that makes it possible to operationalize the Nursing Process, based on Neuman's stressors and on taxonomy, conceptual and care frameworks, guiding care and nursing records.

Theoretical Study Theory of professional bonds: description and theoretical analysis based on the Meleis' model with Delphi strategy

The objective of this study was to evaluate the Theory of Professional Bonds from the description and analysis steps of Meleis' theory evaluation model. This is a theoretical, analytical, and philosophical study, with the collection of manuscripts through literature review to deepen knowledge regarding the origin, the theoretical and philosophical frameworks, and the practical application of the Theory of Professional Bonds. The study was developed in two steps: procedures for the evaluation using the model proposed by Meleis' and procedures for validation of the evaluation using the Delphi strategy and the Likert scale. Descriptive-reflective analysis involves an impartial and detailed examination of the theory, and it is possible to define the scope for a middle-range theory based on Leontiev's Activity Theory. Concepts are defined, delimited and interrelated. It is possible to transcend its applicability from the nursing team to the interdisciplinary team. The theory evaluation advanced by reaffirming the importance of theory to practice and identifying potential for theoretical development, contributing to the elaboration of an unprecedented guideline for theoretical nursing studies.
