Abstract
Long-term abuse of methamphetamine (MA) can cause lung toxicity. Intercellular communication between macrophages and alveolar epithelial cells (AECs) is critical for maintaining lung homeostasis. Microvesicles (MVs) are an important medium of intercellular communication. However, the mechanism of macrophage MVs (MMVs) in MA-induced chronic lung injury remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate if MA can augment the activity of MMVs and if circ_YTHDF2 is a key factor in MMV-mediated macrophage-AEC communication, and to explore the mechanism of MMV-derived circ_YTHDF2 in MA-induced chronic lung injury. MA elevated peak velocity of the pulmonary artery and pulmonary artery accelerate time, reduced the number of alveolar sacs, thickened the alveolar septum, and accelerated the release of MMVs and the uptake of MMVs by AECs. Circ_YTHDF2 was downregulated in lung and MMVs induced by MA. The immune factors in MMVs were increased by si-circ_YTHDF. Circ_YTHDF2 knockdown in MMVs induced inflammation and remodelling in the internalised AECs by MMVs, which was reversed by circ_YTHDF2 overexpression in MMVs. Circ_YTHDF2 bound specifically to and sponged miRNA-145-5p. Runt-related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) was identified as potential target of miR-145-5p. RUNX3 targeted zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1)-related inflammation and EMT of AECs. In vivo, circ_YTHDF2 overexpression-MMVs attenuated MA-induced lung inflammation and remodelling by the circ_YTHDF2-miRNA-145-5p-RUNX3 axis. Therefore, MA abuse can induce pulmonary dysfunction and alveolus injury. The immunoactivity of MMVs is regulated by circ_YTHDF2. Circ_YTHDF2 in MMVs is the key to communication between macrophages and AECs. Circ_YTHDF2 sponges miR-145-5p targeting RUNX3 to participate in ZEB1-related inflammation and remodelling of AECs. MMV-derived circ_YTHDF2 would be an important therapeutic target for MA-induced chronic lung injury. KEY POINTS: Methamphetamine (MA) abuse induces pulmonary dysfunction and alveoli injury. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Stress is widely considered to be a risk factor for high blood pressure (BP), but evidence on the associations between biomarkers of chronic stress and BP is inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the current state of the science on relationships between measures of cortisol concentration reflecting chronic stress exposure [hair cortisol concentration (HCC), nail cortisol concentration)] and BP. METHODS PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase were searched. Random effects models were used to assess the pooled effect size. Exploratory moderation analysis was performed. RESULTS Out of 34 014 identified, 16 articles met eligibility criteria and were included in the review, while 14 were included in the meta-analysis. No articles were reported on the association between nail cortisol concentration and BP. Small, positive associations were observed between HCC and SBP [ r = 0.19 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.08-0.29)] and HCC and DBP [ r = 0.13 (95% CI: 0.04-0.22)]. Cortisol analysis method was identified as a significant moderator of the association between HCC and DBP. HCC was largely, positively associated with hypertension status [odds ratio = 3.23 (95% CI: 2.55-4.09), P < 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS Current evidence suggests that higher HCC may be associated with elevated BP and a potential risk factor for hypertension. However, results should be interpreted with caution because HCC can be affected by hair color, hair care products, and analytic methods. Given the limitations of studies included in this review, further research is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The interplay of oxidative stress, proinflammatory microparticles, and proinflammatory cytokines in recurrent arrhythmias is unknown in elderly patients with coronary restenosis and reocclusions after coronary stenting. OBJECTIVE This research sought to investigate the potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets for recurrent arrhythmias in patients with coronary restenosis and reocclusions after coronary stenting. METHODS We examined whether oxidative stress, proinflammatory microparticles, and proinflammatory cytokines could have effects that lead to recurrent arrhythmias in elderly patients with coronary restenosis and reocclusions. We measured the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), CD31 + endothelial microparticle (CD31 EMP), CD62E + endothelial microparticle (CD62E + EMP), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin- 1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), as well as oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OX-LDL), and assessed the effects of relationship between oxidative stress, proinflammatory microparticles, and proinflammatory cytokines on recurrent atrial and ventricular arrhythmias in elderly patients with coronary restenosis and reocclusions after coronary stenting. RESULTS The levels of CD31 + EMP, CD62E + EMP, MDA, hs-CRP, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and OX-LDL were found to be increased significantly in coronary restenosis + recurrent atrial arrhythmia group compared to without coronary restenosis and coronary restenosis + without recurrent atrial arrhythmia groups, respectively (P < 0.001). Patients in the coronary reocclusion + recurrent ventricular arrhythmia group also exhibited significantly increased levels of CD31 + EMP, CD62E + EMP, MDA, hs-CRP, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and OXLDL compared to without coronary reocclusion and coronary reocclusion + without recurrent ventricular arrhythmia groups, respectively (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Proinflammatory microparticles, proinflammatory cytokines, and oxidative stress might act as potential targets for recurrent arrhythmias in patients with coronary restenosis and reocclusions after coronary stenting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term glucocorticoids (HairGC) measured in scalp hair have been associated with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist-hip-ratio (WHR) in several cross-sectional studies. We aimed to investigate the magnitude, strength, and clinical relevance of these relations across all ages. METHODS We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO registration CRD42020205187) searching for articles relating HairGC to measures of obesity. Main outcomes were bivariate correlation coefficients and unadjusted simple linear regression coefficients relating hair cortisol (HairF) and hair cortisone (HairE) to BMI, WC, and WHR. RESULTS We included k = 146 cohorts (n = 34,342 individuals). HairGC were positively related to all anthropometric measurements. The strongest correlation and largest effect size were seen for HairE-WC: pooled correlation 0.18 (95%CI 0.11-0.24; k = 7; n = 3,158; I2 = 45.7%) and pooled regression coefficient 11.0 cm increase in WC per point increase in 10-log-transformed HairE (pg/mg) on liquid-chromatography-(tandem) mass spectrometry (LC-MS) (95%CI 10.1-11.9 cm; k = 6; n = 3,102). Pooled correlation for HairF-BMI was 0.10 (95%CI 0.08-0.13; k = 122; n = 26,527; I2 = 51.2%) and pooled regression coefficient 0.049 kg/m2 per point increase in 10-log-transformed HairF (pg/mg) on LC-MS (95%CI 0.045-0.054 kg/m2 ; k = 26; n = 11,635). DISCUSSION There is a consistent positive association between HairGC and BMI, WC, and WHR, most prominently and clinically relevant for HairE-WC. These findings overall suggest an altered setpoint of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis with increasing central adiposity.

Abstract
Hypertension is a condition with chronic elevation of blood pressure and a common preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease with attendant global morbidity and mortality. The present study investigated the novel antihypertensive and neuroprotective effect of Naringenin on L-NG-Nitro arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) induced hypertension together with possible molecular mechanism of action. Rats were divided into four groups. Rats in Group A were normotensive. The hypertensive group (Group B) received 40 mg/kg) of L-NAME alone while Groups C and D were concurrently administered Naringenin (50 mg/kg) or Lisinopril (10 mg/Kg) together with L-NAME orally for 3 weeks. Blood pressure parameters, markers of oxidative stress and renal damage were measured. The immunohistochemistry of kidney injury molecule 1, mineralocorticoid receptor and angiotensin converting enzyme were also determined. Results indicated significant increases in malondialdehyde, advanced oxidation protein products, protein carbonyl contents and decrease in serum nitric oxide bioavailability in hypertensive rats. Furthermore, there were significant increases in serum myeloperoxidase, urinary creatinine, albumin and blood urea nitrogen in hypertensive rats in comparison to hypertensive rats treated with either Naringenin or Lisinopril. Immunohistochemistry reveal significant expressions of kidney injury molecule 1, mineralocorticoid receptor and angiotensin converting enzyme in hypertensive rats. However, co-treatment with either Naringenin or Lisinopril mitigated both renal and neuronal oxidative stress, normalized blood pressure and lowered the expressions of kidney injury molecule 1, mineralocorticoid receptor and angiotensin converting enzyme. Collectively, Naringenin offered a novel antihypertensive and neuroprotective effect through down regulation of kidney injury molecule 1, mineralocorticoid receptor and angiotensin converting enzyme.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of the study was to determine the differences in the numbers of endothelial microvesicles (EMV) after myocardial infarction (MI) and their association with oxidative stress. MATERIALS AND METHODS We included 15 post MI patients and 28 healthy controls. Samples were analysed by flow cytometry. We examined four EMV populations: 1) CD144+, CD42a-, CD61-, 2) CD144+, CD42a+, CD61-, 3) CD105+, CD42a-, CD61-and 4) CD31+, CD42a-, CD61-and determined a percentage of CD62e + EMV. Malondialdehyde concentration was determined by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS The median of EMV counts differed between controls and patients in: CD105+ (10.91 microvesicles/μl vs. 33.68 microvesicles/μl, P = 0.006), CD144+, CD42a+ (312.87 microvesicles/μl vs. 73.29 microvesicles/μl, P < 0.001) and CD31+ (2 microvesicles/μl vs. 1.38 microvesicles/μl, P = 0.021). The median of percentage of CD62e expression differed between controls and patients in: CD105+ (1.35% vs. 14.8%, P < 0.001), CD144+, CD42a+ (56.45% vs. 98.99%, P < 0.001) and CD144+, CD42a- (173.03% vs. 215.56%) EMV. In patients, EMV counts correlated with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations: CD105+: R = -0.69, P = 0.004 (LDL-C), R = -0.64, P = 0.01 (TC); CD144+, CD42a-: R = -0.68, P = 0.005 (LDL-C), R = -0.63, P = 0.011 (TC); CD144+: R = -0.54, P = 0.038 (HDL-C) and CD144+, CD42a-, CD62e+: R = 0.78, P = 0.001 (HDL-C). In controls, HDL-C concentration correlated with CD105+ (R = -0.395, P = 0.038) and CD105+, CD62e+ (R = -0.716, P < 0.001) counts. Malondialdehyde concentration correlated with CD144+, CD42a- (P = 0.01, R = 0.48) and CD105+, CD62e+ (P = 0.012, R = 0.47) counts. CONCLUSIONS Changes in EMV levels after the MI period were observed. Counts of EMV and their CD62e expression correlated with dyslipidaemia and oxidative stress.
