Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurately identifying and categorizing individuals who are latently infected is critical for developing prevention strategies against tuberculosis (TB) disease. The QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus), a set of two antigen tubes, was used to assess TB household contacts, aiming to induce CD4 + and CD8 + T cell responses. METHODS We examined fifty-six TB household contacts for TB infection using the QFT-Plus and QFT-Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) tests. In addition, we evaluated 616 samples from the parent study to determine whether there was any association between the QFT-Plus CD8 + T cell responses and variables that were clinically significant. This was done by analyzing the difference in interferon-gamma (IFNγ) levels between TB2 and TB1 tubes. We utilised a cut-off of 0.6 IU/mL. RESULTS To assess agreement between tests, a Cohen's kappa of 0.71 was observed across 56 TB contacts. Eight participants reported discordance: four reported positive QFT-Plus and negative QFT-GIT, and four reported negative QFT-Plus and positive QFT-GIT. The QFT-Plus CD8 + T cell responses did not show any significant correlation with the age, sex, history of BCG vaccination, HIV infection, TB risk score and baseline blood draw among adult TB household contacts. CONCLUSION The QFT-Plus and QFT-GIT tests significantly agree with one another. No clinically significant variable was observed to be associated with CD8 + T cell responses in QFT-Plus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND No head-to-head studies have simultaneously compared the performances of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT), QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus), ESAT6-CFP10 (EC) skin test, and Tuberculin skin test (TST) in adolescents. This study aimed to conduct a comparative assessment of QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis(Mtb) infection in high school freshmen. METHODS We concurrently administered QFT-GIT, QFT-Plus, EC skin test, and TST to first-year high school students. Blood samples were obtained for the QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays before the administration of the EC skin test and TST. The diagnostic values were compared. Discrepancies between the tests were quantified using Cohen's kappa coefficient. RESULTS A total of 787 freshmen were recruited in this study. Among 787 subjects, EC was positive in 0.8%, TST in 5.3%, QFT-GIT in 1.1%, and QFT-Plus in 3.2%. Overall agreements for QFT-GIT vs. QFT-Plus, QFT-Plus TB1, and QFT-Plus TB2 were 95.7% (95% CI, 94.0-97.0), 97.3% (95% CI, 95.9-98.3), and 95.9% (95% CI, 94.3-97.2), respectively. Cohen's kappa values were 0.485 (95% CI, 0.319-0.621), 0.593 (95% CI, 0.413-0.744), and 0.451 (95% CI, 0.274-0.600). Consistency rates for QFT-GIT, QFT-Plus, EC skin test, and TST were 96.6% (95% CI, 95.0, 97.0), 92.1% (95% CI, 89.0, 94.0), 94.5% (95% CI, 92.6, 96.1), and 91.2% (95% CI, 88.8, 93.1) with Cohen's kappa values of 0.19 (95% CI, -0.01, 0.38), 0.07 (95% CI, -0.02, 0.19), 0.08 (95% CI, -0.01, 0.23), and 0.12 (95% CI, 0.01, 0.21). CONCLUSION The QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays exhibited a high level of agreement but demonstrated a moderate correlation. IFN-γ levels measured by both QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus were comparable. Notably, Our study suggests QFT-Plus may detect a higher rate of Mtb infection among high school freshmen compared to QFT-GIT, EC skin test, and TST, though this requires cautious interpretation due to the absence of a gold standard for Mtb infection diagnosis.

Abstract
Background Pregnancy and HIV affect CD4+ T lymphocytes and impact performance of QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT). We compared the results of QFT with QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus), which also measures CD8+ responses to TB antigens, during pregnancy and postpartum. Methods We screened 516 pregnant women for TB infection (TBI) with IGRA. From 165 IGRA + pregnant women, QFT vs QFT-Plus results were compared at delivery and postpartum. Longitudinal changes in QFT-Plus were assessed in 74 pregnant women who received QFT-Plus testing at pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. Results Through cross-sectional analysis of the IGRA + cohort, QFT-Plus showed higher positivity than QFT (80 % vs 65 %, p = 0.04) at delivery but no difference postpartum. Among 35 women with HIV, QFT-Plus returned more positive results than QFT at delivery and postpartum (76 % vs 47 %, p = 0.08; 90 % vs 80 %, p = 0.54), though not statistically significant. Longitudinally, QFT-Plus positivity by TB1 or TB2 was highest antepartum vs. delivery and postpartum (74 % vs. 58 % vs. 62 %; p = 0.09) and performed better than TB1 alone (100 % vs 90 %, p = 0.04) in women without HIV but not in women with HIV. Conclusions Performance of QFT-Plus was consistent across pregnancy, including at delivery when QFT positivity is lower. QFT-Plus may enhance antenatal TBI detection among pregnant women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The rate of pleuroparenchymal involvement in patients with SpA varies widely, from 0% to 85%. The most common form is apical fibrobullous disease (AFLD). The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of AFLD and associated factors in SpA patients under and/or planned to start biologic DMARDs (bDMARDs) therapy. METHODS The records of 3021 SPA patients registered with HUR-BIO who had indication of bDMARDs between 2010 and 2021 were scanned. The study included 2489 patients with at least one chest radiograph (X-ray). Patient demographics, comorbidities, laboratory data, bDMARDs used, baseline DASs, and purified protein derivative and/or QuantiFERON test results before initiation of bDMARDs were recorded. RESULTS Of the 2489 patients, 36 (1.4%) were found to have AFLD by X-ray and/or CT. The mean disease duration was 11.7 (7.1) years. Patients with AFLD were more likely to be male [28 (77.8%) vs 1321 (53.9%), P = 0.004], older [56.3 (10.5) years vs 44.8 (11.4) years, P < 0.001], heavy smokers [27 (79.4%) vs 1468 (60.9%), P = 0.028] and have had longer disease duration [17. 7 (9.7) years vs 11.6 (7) years, P = 0.001]. QuantiFERON positivity was higher in the AFLD group [9 (36%) vs 309 (16.1%), P = 0.013]. While treatment with adalimumab was less preferred in those with AFLD, treatment with etanercept was more frequently preferred. CONCLUSION As the radiological findings of AFLD can be confused with those of tuberculosis, special attention should be paid to differentiating between tuberculosis and the disease in males and in patients who have had long disease duration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES CD8 T-cells play an important role in interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) production as a host defense against tuberculosis (TB) infection. Therefore, QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) was developed by adding a TB2 tube beside the TB1 tube. This study aimed to compare and analyze the difference in IFN-γ production between the two tubes in general and specific populations. CONTENT PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCO were searched for studies reporting IFN-γ production levels in the TB1 and TB2 tubes. Statistical analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3. SUMMARY A total of 17 studies met the inclusion criteria. The IFN-γ production in the TB2 tube was statistically higher than that in the TB1 tube (mean difference (MD)=0.02, 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI): 0.01-0.03). Further subgroup analysis in specific populations revealed that the MD of IFN-γ production between the TB2 and TB1 tubes was significantly higher in active TB subjects than in latent TB infection (LTBI) subjects (MD=1.13, 95 % CI: 0.49-1.77, and MD=0.30, 95 % CI: 0.00-0.60, respectively). A similar finding was found in immune-mediated inflammatory disease subjects, but not statistically significant. Interestingly, IFN-γ production capacity was lower in active TB subjects than in LTBI subjects in each of the TB1 and TB2 tubes. OUTLOOK This study is the first to systematically compare IFN-γ production between the TB1 and TB2 tubes. The IFN-γ production was higher in the TB2 tube than in the TB1 tube, representing the host's CD8 T-cell response magnitude to TB infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We compared 6 new interferon-γ release assays (IGRAs; hereafter index tests: QFT-Plus, QFT-Plus CLIA, QIAreach, Wantai TB-IGRA, Standard E TB-Feron, and T-SPOT.TB/T-Cell Select) with World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed tests for tuberculosis infection (hereafter reference tests). METHODS Data sources (1 January 2007-18 August 2021) were Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and manufacturers' data. Cross-sectional and cohort studies comparing the diagnostic performance of index and reference tests were selected. The primary outcomes of interest were the pooled differences in sensitivity and specificity between index and reference tests. The certainty of evidence (CoE) was summarized using the GRADE approach. RESULTS Eighty-seven studies were included (44 evaluated the QFT-Plus, 4 QFT-Plus CLIA, 3 QIAreach, 26 TB-IGRA, 10 TB-Feron [1 assessing the QFT-Plus], and 1 T-SPOT.TB/T-Cell Select). Compared to the QFT-GIT, QFT Plus's sensitivity was 0.1 percentage points lower (95% confidence interval [CI], -2.8 to 2.6; CoE: moderate), and its specificity 0.9 percentage points lower (95% CI, -1.0 to -.9; CoE: moderate). Compared to QFT-GIT, TB-IGRA's sensitivity was 3.0 percentage points higher (95% CI, -.2 to 6.2; CoE: very low), and its specificity 2.6 percentage points lower (95% CI, -4.2 to -1.0; CoE: low). Agreement between the QFT-Plus CLIA and QIAreach with QFT-Plus was excellent (pooled κ statistics of 0.86 [95% CI, .78 to .94; CoE: low]; and 0.96 [95% CI, .92 to 1.00; CoE: low], respectively). The pooled κ statistic comparing the TB-Feron and the QFT-Plus or QFT-GIT was 0.85 (95% CI, .79 to .92; CoE: low). CONCLUSIONS The QFT-Plus and the TB-IGRA have very similar sensitivity and specificity as WHO-approved IGRAs.

Abstract
We aimed to obtain the effects of immunosuppressive doses on the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) test results in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) patients. Besides this, the impact of the TB2 tube in QFT-Plus test was also investigated. This study included RA patients registered to HURBIO and were screened via QFT-Plus test for latent tuberculosis between January 2018 and March 2021, before the initiation of treatment of biologic/targeted-synthetic disease modifying anti-rheumatismal drugs (b/ts-DMARDs). Patients using methotrexate ≥ 10 mg or leflunomide (any dose) or steroids (≥ 7.5 mg prednisolone) at the time of QFT-Plus test were classified as the "high dose" group and the rest of the patients constituted the "low dose" group. The study included 534 RA patients; 353 [66.1%] in the high-dose group and 181 [33.9%] in the low-dose group. While QFT-Plus test was positive in 10.5% (37/353) patients in the high-dose group, it was positive in 20.4% (37/181) patients in the low-dose group (p < 0.001). The percentage of QFT-Plus indeterminate results were similar (around 2%) in both groups. The contribution of the TB2 tube to QFT-Plus test positivity was 6.89%. During a median (inter-quartile range) follow-up period of 23 (7-38) months under treatment of b/ts-DMARDs, latent TB reactivation was not observed. Primer active tuberculosis disease developed in two patients. Positive test results of Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) could decrease as immunosuppressive treatment doses increase in patients with RA and addition of the TB2 tube could increase test sensitivity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) is an important test that has emerged in recent years for detecting TB infection. We conducted a review to compare the sensitivity, specificity and positive rate of QFT-Plus with that of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT), T-cell spot of tuberculosis assay (T-SPOT.TB) and Tuberculin test (TST). METHODS PubMed and Embase were searched, without language restrictions, from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2022 using "Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infections" and "QuantiFERON-TB-Plus" as search phrases. We estimated the sensitivity from studies of patients with active tuberculosis, specificity from studies of populations with very low risk of TB exposure, and positive rate from studies of high-risk populations. The methodological quality of the eligible studies was assessed, and a random-effects model meta-analysis was used to determine the risk difference (RD). We assessed the pooled rate by using a random-effects model. This study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD 42021267432). RESULTS Of 3996 studies, 83 were eligible for full-text screening and 41 were included in the meta-analysis. In patients with active TB, the sensitivity of QFT-Plus was compared to that of QFT-GIT and T-SPOT.TB, respectively, and no statistically differences were found. In populations with a very low risk of TB exposure, the specificity of QFT-Plus was compared with that of QFT-GTI and T-SPOT.TB, respectively, and no statistically differences were found. Two studies were eligible to compare the specificity of the QFT-Plus test with that of the TST test, and the pooled RD was 0.12 (95% CI 0.02 to 0.22). In high-risk populations, 18 studies were eligible to compare the positive rate of the QFT-Plus test with that of the QFT-GIT test, and the pooled RD was 0.02 (95% CI 0.01 to 0.03). The positive rate of QFT-Plus was compared with that of T-SPOT.TB and TST groups, and no statistically differences were found. CONCLUSIONS The diagnostic performance of QFT-Plus was similar to that of QFT-GIT and T-SPOT.TB, but was slightly more specific than TST.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pleural tuberculosis (TB) is the archetype of extrapulmonary TB (EPTB), which mainly affects the pleural space and leads to exudative pleural effusion. Diagnosis of pleural TB is a difficult task predominantly due to atypical clinical presentations and sparse bacillary load in clinical specimens. AREA COVERED We reviewed the current literature on the globally existing conventional/latest modalities for diagnosing pleural TB. Bacteriological examination (smear/culture), tuberculin skin testing/interferon-γ release assays, biochemical testing, imaging and histopathological/cytological examination are the main modalities. Moreover, nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), i.e. loop-mediated isothermal amplification, PCR/multiplex-PCR, nested-PCR, real-time PCR and GeneXpert® MTB/RIF are being utilized. Currently, GeneXpert Ultra, Truenat MTBTM, detection of circulating Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) cell-free DNA by NAATs, aptamer-linked immobilized sorbent assay and immuno-PCR (I-PCR) have also been exploited. EXPERT OPINION Routine tests are not adequate for effective pleural TB diagnosis. The latest molecular/immunological tests as discussed above, and the other tools, i.e. real-time I-PCR/nanoparticle-based I-PCR and identification of Mtb biomarkers within urinary/serum extracellular vesicles being utilized for pulmonary TB and other EPTB types may also be exploited to diagnose pleural TB. Reliable diagnosis and early therapy would reduce the serious complications associated with pleural TB, i.e. TB empyema, pleural fibrosis, etc.

Comparison of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube and QuantiFERON-TB Gold-Plus in the Diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infections in Immunocompromised Patients: a Real-World Study. Abstract
QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) is an emerging QuantiFERON test after QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) for tuberculosis infection detection; it is an IFN-γ release assay. We compared QFTPlus, which has an additional TB antigen 2 (TB2) tube to induce cell-mediated (CD8+ T cell) immune responses, with QFT-GIT. We conducted this study to assess the agreement of the QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays in immunocompromised patients in a clinical setting. A total of 278 immunocompromised patients and 175 immunocompetent patients from different departments were continuously enrolled from August 2020 to March 2021, and each patient underwent both tests. Correlations between QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays showed good agreement (κ value = 0.859). Patients receiving long-term immunosuppressant therapy had the lowest concordance between QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays; 9 out of 11 positive latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) cases were diagnosed by the QFT-Plus assay, implying that QFT-Plus may detect more LTBI than QFT-GIT does in these patients. Indeterminate results were associated with lower lymphocyte, CD4+ T cell, and CD8+ T cell absolute counts, and with lower CD4/CD8 ratios. In conclusion, we found that the QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus assays had high agreement not only in immunocompetent patients but also in immunocompromised patients. QFT-Plus may detect more LTBI than QFT-GIT in patients receiving long-term immunosuppressant therapy. Thresholds were established for lymphocyte absolute counts of >1.15 × 109 cells, and for CD4+ T cell absolute counts of >467.7 × 106 to 478.5 × 106 cells, which may lessen the incidence of indeterminate results. IMPORTANCE This study evaluated the performance of QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus in the diagnosis of M. tuberculosis infection in immunocompromised patients and found that QFT-Plus may detect more LTBI than QFT-GIT does in patients receiving long-term immunosuppressant therapy. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because it highlights the different diagnostic accuracies of QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus in different subpopulations of immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. Selecting a test with better performance, particularly in patients with a high risk of developing active TB, may assist the health sector in better managing TB. Furthermore, we believe that this study will be of significance to the diagnosis of LTBI.

Abstract
As an ancient infectious disease, tuberculosis (TB) is still the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent worldwide. Latent TB infection (LTBI) has been recognized as the largest source of new TB cases and is one of the biggest obstacles to achieving the aim of the End TB Strategy. The latest data indicate that a considerable percentage of the population with LTBI and the lack of differential diagnosis between LTBI and active TB (aTB) may be potential reasons for the high TB morbidity and mortality in countries with high TB burdens. The tuberculin skin test (TST) has been used to diagnose TB for > 100 years, but it fails to distinguish patients with LTBI from those with aTB and people who have received Bacillus Calmette–Guérin vaccination. To overcome the limitations of TST, several new skin tests and interferon-gamma release assays have been developed, such as the Diaskintest, C-Tb skin test, EC-Test, and T-cell spot of the TB assay, QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube, QuantiFERON-TB Gold-Plus, LIAISON QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus test, and LIOFeron TB/LTBI. However, these methods cannot distinguish LTBI from aTB. To investigate the reasons why all these methods cannot distinguish LTBI from aTB, we have explained the concept and definition of LTBI and expounded on the immunological mechanism of LTBI in this review. In addition, we have outlined the research status, future directions, and challenges of LTBI differential diagnosis, including novel biomarkers derived from Mycobacterium tuberculosis and hosts, new models and algorithms, omics technologies, and microbiota.

Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB)-associated uveitis is a common cause of infectious uveitis in the developing world. Diagnosis of TB uveitis remains a challenge. The role of interferon gamma release assays (IGRAs) is uncertain. Herein we summarise the available literature on the utility of IGRAs in the diagnosis and management of TB uveitis. We searched PubMed database from 1 August 2010 to 31 July 2020 using the following keywords alone and in combination: 'interferon-gamma release assay', 'QuantiFERON', 'T-SPOT.TB', 'TB uveitis', 'serpiginous like choroiditis', 'tuberculoma', 'TB vasculitis', 'TB panuveitis' and 'ocular tuberculosis'. Data from 58 relevant studies were collated. The review is focused on currently marketed versions of IGRA tests: QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube assay, QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus assay (QFT-Plus) and T-SPOT.TB. We found limited evidence regarding the diagnostic utility of IGRA in patients with uveitis. No study was identified evaluating the newer QFT test-the QFT-Plus-in patients with uveitis. Similarly, there is lack of data directly comparing QFT-Plus with T-SPOT.TB specifically for the diagnosis of TB uveitis.

Abstract
The aim was to evaluate the sensitivity and the possible factors affecting the sensitivity of the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) assay in culture-positive active TB (Tuberculosis) patients, to investigate the possible causes of negative and indeterminate results in active TB patients, and to compare the QFT-Plus results of active TB patients and latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) cases. The QFT-Plus assay was performed in 46 active TB patients and 64 LTBI. The sensitivity of the test was found as 79.5% in all culture-positive patients, 72.7% in the immunocompromised patients, and 86.4% in the non-immunocompromised patients. Compared to active TB, individuals with LTBI had a lower T-cell response and lower IFN-ɣ concentrations. It was determined that the immunocompromisation reduced the sensitivity of the test and the secreted IFN-ɣ concentrations and increased the indeterminate results in patients with active TB. There was no difference in secreted IFN-ɣ concentrations between M. tuberculosis clones, but higher IFN-ɣ concentrations in patients infected with M. tuberculosis strains compared to patients infected with zoonotic strains. Compared with active TB, response to “only to TB2” was significantly higher in LTBI. In conclusion, it was concluded that TB2 tube increased sensitivity in LTBI but may not contribute to sensitivity in active TB.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We conducted a review to compare the sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, and predictive ability of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) with that of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT; QIAGEN, Hilden, Germany) and other latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) tests. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from January 2013 through May 2020. We included studies comparing QFT-Plus with at least one other LTBI test. We estimated sensitivity from studies of patients with active tuberculosis, and specificity from studies of healthy individuals with low risk of LTBI. Three independent reviewers evaluated eligibility, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. RESULTS Compared with QFT-GIT, the sensitivity of QFT-Plus in patients with active TB was 1.3% higher (95% confidence interval [CI], -0.3% to 2.9%); in 2 studies of patients with very low probability of LTBI, the specificity was 0.9% lower (95% CI, -2.4% to 0.6%). These differences were not statistically significant. The agreement between QFT-Plus and QFT-GIT was high, with a pooled Cohen's kappa statistic of 0.83 (95% CI, 0.79 to 0.88). The reproducibility of QFT-GIT and QFT-Plus was similarly poor. All participants in the studies to estimate sensitivity were aged ≥15 years, and only 6 were people living with human immunodeficiency virus. We found no studies to assess predictive ability. CONCLUSIONS QFT-Plus has diagnostic performance that is very similar to that of QFT-GIT. Further studies are needed to assess the sensitivity of QFT-Plus in immunocompromised patients and younger children before concluding if this new version offers advantages.

Abstract
As a recognized Mycobacterium bovis maintenance host, the African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) poses transmission risks to livestock, humans and other wildlife. Early detection of M. bovis infection is critical for limiting its spread. Currently, tests detecting cell-mediated immune responses are used for diagnosis in buffaloes. However, these may have suboptimal sensitivity or specificity, depending on the blood stimulation method. Recent evidence suggests that assays using combinations of host cytokine biomarkers may increase diagnostic performance. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the application of a MILLIPLEX® bovine cytokine/chemokine multiplex assay to identify candidate biomarkers of M. bovis infection in buffaloes. Whole blood from twelve culture-confirmed M. bovis-infected buffaloes, stimulated with the QuantiFERON® TB Gold Plus in-tube system, was tested using the MILLIPLEX® platform. Results indicated binding of bovine antibodies to fifteen buffalo cytokine/chemokine targets. Moreover, there was a significant difference in concentrations between unstimulated and TB antigen-stimulated buffalo samples for seven cytokines/chemokines included in the kit. Although these preliminary results require further investigation in larger sample sets and a comparison between M. bovis-infected and uninfected cohorts, the utility of the MILLIPLEX® platform in a novel species was demonstrated, in addition to identifying potential African buffalo cytokines for future research.

Abstract
QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) is the latest generation of interferon gamma release assays (IGRAs) to receive approval from the U.S. FDA, replacing its predecessor, QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT). The novelty of QFT-Plus is that it elicits a response from CD8 T cells, in addition to CD4 T cells, thus collecting a broader response from T-cell subsets than QFT-GIT. It was developed with the aim to improve the detection of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), especially among recently exposed contacts, immunocompromised hosts, and young children. In this minireview, we summarize the performance of QFT-Plus compared with that of QFT-GIT among active tuberculosis (TB) patients (a surrogate for LTBI patients), high-risk populations, and low-risk individuals based on recent publications. Studies comparing QFT-Plus to QFT-GIT currently do not support the superior performance of QFT-Plus in individuals with active TB and LTBI. The difference in sensitivity between QFT-Plus and QFT-GIT in active TB patients was not significant in nearly all studies and ranged from -4.0 to 2.0%. Among high-risk groups, the agreement between QFT-Plus and QFT-GIT was 89.9 to 96.0% (kappa coefficient range, 0.80 to 0.91). The specificity in the low-risk population was slightly lower for QFT-Plus than for QFT-GIT, with the difference ranging from -7.4 to 0%. Further studies are needed to accurately evaluate the sensitivity of QFT-Plus in immunocompromised hosts and children. In addition, further evidence is required to validate a modified interpretation of QFT-Plus for the identification of false-positive results in low-risk health care workers.
