Risk Factors of PICC-Related Venous Thrombosis in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

The impact of internet multidisciplinary continuity care on the living quality of home-based patients with malignant tumors undergoing PICC catheterization

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the impact of Internet-based multidisciplinary continuity care on the quality of life of home-based patients with PICC catheters for malignant tumors.

METHOD

This study is a retrospective research analysis. A total of 131 patients with malignant tumors who received PICC catheterization at Xijing Hospital from Jan. 2023 to Dec. 2023 were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into two groups: 61 in the control group who received conventional nursing care, and 70 in the observation group who received multidisciplinary continuous nursing care via an Internet platform in addition to conventional nursing. The Strategies Used by Patients to Promote Health (C-SUPPH), the Quality-of-Life Core Questionnaire (QLQ-C30), the Exercise of Self-care Agency Scale (ESCA), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) were adopted for investigation and analysis. Six months after intervention, the two groups' ego-efficacy, living quality, self-care ability and psychological status, as well as treatment compliance and satisfaction with care were compared.

RESULTS

Post-intervention, both groups showed significant improvements in ego-efficacy and self-care ability scores (all P<0.05). The observation group scored higher in all dimensions of ego-efficacy and self-care ability compared to the control group (all P<0.05). Furthermore, the observation group demonstrated significant improvements across all dimensions of quality of life (P<0.05), whereas the control group only showed improvement in social function (P<0.05). The observation group also exhibited lower scores for anxiety and depression post-intervention compared to the control group (all P<0.05). Additionally, the observation group had a significantly lower incidence of complications and higher post-intervention treatment compliance and satisfaction with nursing (P<0.05).

CONCLUSION

Multidisciplinary continuing nursing care delivered via an Internet platform significantly enhances self-management efficiency, quality of life, and self-care ability of home-based patients with PICC catheters for malignant tumors. This care model also effectively improves patients' mental health and increases their compliance with treatment and satisfaction with nursing.

Incidence and risk factors of PICC-related thrombosis in breast cancer: a meta-analysis

BACKGROUND

The incidence and risk factors of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis in patients with breast cancer have not been fully elucidated.

METHOD

Meta-analysis was performed by searching all studies on the incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter-associated thrombosis and risk factors for its formation in breast cancer patients from the establishment of the database to May 2023, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China Knowledge Network, China Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) and Wanfang databases. Then the incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis and risk factors for its formation were analyzed in breast cancer patients.

RESULTS

A total of 15 articles were included, involving 8635 patients. The total incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis in breast cancer patients was 7.0% (95% confidence interval: 4.0-13.0%) and 12.9% (95% confidence interval: 7.0-22.5%) after correction. Thirty-two risk factors were included, and eight risk factors could be combined. Among these risk factors, there were statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) in body mass index ≥ 25 (odds ratio = 6.319, 95% confidence interval: 2.733-14.613; P < 0.001), D-dimer >500 ng/ml (odds ratio = 1.436, 95% confidence interval: 1.113-1.854; P = 0.005), increased fibrinogen (odds ratio = 4.733, 95% confidence interval: 1.562-14.346; P = 0.006), elevated platelet count (odds ratio = 4.134, 95% confidence interval: 2.694-6.346; P < 0.001) and catheter malposition (odds ratio = 8.475, 95% confidence interval: 2.761-26.011; P < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

The incidence rate of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis in breast cancer patients was 7.0% (95% confidence interval: 4.0-13.0%). Body mass index ≥ 25, D-dimer >500 ng/ml, elevated fibrinogen, elevated platelet count and catheter malposition were risk factors for peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis in breast cancer patients.

Complication Rates of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters in Oncologic Versus Non-Oncologic Patients

OBJECTIVES

Peripherally inserted central catheters are commonly used in cancer patients and provide vascular access for the administration of chemotherapy, antibiotics, or parenteral nutrition. Besides many advantages, they represent a source of possible complications such as catheter related blood stream infection, catheter occlusion, or thrombosis. In this study, the catheter-related complication rate between oncologic and non-oncologic patients was compared.

METHODS

This retrospective cohort-study included 411 patients who underwent their first catheter placement at the Vienna General Hospital-Medical University of Vienna from January 2013 to June 2018. Patient demographics and catheter-related parameters were collected and statistically analyzed using a competing risk model.

RESULTS

Mean catheter dwell time was 27.75 days. The overall complication rate was 7.54% (2.72 per 1000 catheter days). Underlying malignant disease (hazard ratio: 0.351, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.133-0.929, P = .035) and chemotherapy administration (hazard ratio: 2.837, 95% CI: 1.088-7.394, P = .033) were significantly associated with the occurrence of any kind of complication. Catheter related blood stream infection was observed among 11 (2.68%) patients and again significantly associated with chemotherapy administration (hazard ratio: 4.545, 95% CI: 1.178-17.539; P = .028). Thrombosis was found in 7 (1.70%) patients and occlusion in 13 (3.16%) cases.

CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE

Choice of venous access is an interdisciplinary decision with emphasis on patient participation. In oncologic patients, our data suggests that the benefits of peripherally inserted central catheters regarding costs, invasiveness, and accessibility might be outweighed by the higher rate of complications associated with the device. This becomes even more important in a community care setting, where standardized handling procedures and patient education play a pivotal role in device safety.

Platelet Parameters as Biomarkers for Thrombosis Risk in Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is a major cause of both morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. Platelet count has been investigated as a predictor of CAT in various settings while knowledge on platelet activation parameters is sparse. This report provides a systematic review and meta-analysis on available literature on associations between platelet count and/or function and arterial and venous thrombosis in adult cancer patients. The review was performed according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. PubMed and Embase were searched up to March 2022. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's tools were used for quality assessment. In total, 100 studies were included which investigated the association between CAT and platelet count (n = 90), platelet indices (n = 19), and platelet function/activation markers (n = 13) in patients with solid cancers (n = 61), hematological cancers (n = 17), or mixed cancer types (n = 22). Eighty-one studies had venous thrombosis as their outcome measure, while 4 had arterial thrombosis and 15 studies had both. We found significantly elevated odds ratio of 1.50 (95% confidence interval: 1.19-1.88) for thrombosis with higher platelet counts. We saw a tendency toward an association between markers of platelet activation in forms of mean platelet volume and soluble P selectin and both arterial and venous thrombosis. Only one study investigated dynamic platelet function using flow cytometry. In conclusion, platelet count is associated with CAT across different cancer types and settings. Platelet function or activation marker analysis may be valuable in assisting thrombosis risk assessment in cancer patients but is sparsely investigated so far.

Risk factors analysis and the establishment of nomogram prediction model for PICC-related venous thrombosis in patients with lymphoma: a double-center cohort-based case-control study

Objective

The objective of this study is to examine the risk factors associated with the occurrence of PICC-Related Venous Thrombosis (PICC-RVTE) in individuals diagnosed with lymphoma, as well as to develop a predictive risk nomogram model.

Methods

A total of 215 patients with lymphoma treated at Yunnan Provincial Tumor Hospital from January 2017 to December 2020 were retrospectively evaluated as the training cohort; 90 patients with lymphoma treated at the Department of Oncology of the First People's Hospital of Anning, Affiliated to Kunming University of Science and Technology during the January 2021 to September 2023 were evaluated as the validation cohort. Independent influencing factors were analyzed by logistic regression, a nomogram was developed and validated, and the model was evaluated using internal and external data cohorts for validation.

Results

A total of 305 lymphoma patients were selected and 35 (11.48%) PICC-RVTE occurred, the median time was 13 days. The incidence within 1-2week was 65.71%. Multivariate analysis suggested that the activity amount, thrombosis history(within the last 12 months), ATIII, Total cholesterol and D-dimer levels were independently associated with PICC-RVTE, and a nomogram was constructed based on the multivariate analysis. ROC analysis indicated good discrimination in the training set (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.907, 95%CI:0.850-0.964) and the testing set (AUC = 0.896, 95%CI: 0.782-1.000) for the PICC-RVTE nomogram. The calibration curves showed good calibration abilities, and the decision curves indicated the clinical usefulness of the prediction nomograms.

Conclusions

Patients should be advised to undergo color Doppler ultrasound system testing within two week after the implantation of a PICC catheter to detect PICC-RVTE at an early stage. The validated nomogram can be used to predict the risk of catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) in patients with lymphoma who received at least one chemotherapy after PICC catheterization, no bleeding tendency, no recent history of anticoagulant exposure and no severe heart, lung, renal insufficiency. This model has the potential to assist clinicians in formulating individualized treatment strategies for each patient.

Construction of a nomogram risk prediction model for PICC-related venous thrombosis and its application

OBJECTIVE

To explore the risk factors of the peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related venous thrombosis and correspondingly construct a nomogram risk prediction model.

METHODS

The clinical data of 401 patients receiving PICC catheterization in our hospital from June 2019 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The independent influencing factors for venous thrombosis were predicted using logistic regression analysis, and significant indicators were screened to construct a nomogram for predicting PICC-related venous thrombosis. The difference in predictive efficacy between simple clinical data and nomogram was analyzed using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the nomogram was internally validated.

RESULTS

Single-factor analysis showed that catheter tip position, plasma D-dimer concentration, venous compression, malignant tumor, diabetes, history of thrombosis, history of chemotherapy, and history of PICC/CVC catheterization were correlated with PICC-related venous thrombosis. Further multi-factor analysis revealed that catheter tip position, plasma D-dimer elevation, venous compression, history of thrombosis and history of PICC/CVC catheterization were the risk factors for PICC-related venous thrombosis. Based on binary logistic regression analysis, a nomogram prediction model for PICC-related venous thrombosis was constructed. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.876 (95%CI: 0.818-0.925), with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSION

The independent risk factors for PICC-related venous thrombosis are screened out, including catheter tip position, plasma D-dimer elevation, venous compression, history of thrombosis and history of PICC/CVC catheterization, and a nomogram prediction model with good effect is constructed to predict the risk of PICC-related venous thrombosis.

Arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access for neurointerventional procedures: a double-center retrospective study

OBJECTIVE

This study aims to share our experience with the arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach for neurointerventional procedures and evaluate its efficacy and safety.

METHODS

The arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach was performed using the right/bilateral proximal radial arteries and the right forearm superficial vein system, guided by ultrasonic guidance. Arterial access closure was achieved using a transradial band radial compression device, while manual compression was utilized for venous approach closure.

RESULTS

Thirteen procedures were successfully performed using the arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach, yielding favorable outcomes. The procedures included dural arteriovenous fistula embolization (seven cases), cerebral arteriovenous malformation embolization (four cases), venous sinus thrombosis catheter-directed thrombolysis and intravenous thrombectomy (one case), and cerebral venous sinus stenosis manometry (one case). All procedures were uneventful, allowing patients to ambulate on the same day. At discharge, all patients exhibited modified Rankin scores of 0-2, without any access site or perioperative complications.

CONCLUSION

This double-center study preliminarily demonstrates the feasibility and safety of arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access applied in neurointerventional procedures for complicated cerebrovascular diseases. The proximal radial artery and forearm superficial vein are recommended as the primary access sites. Unobstructed compression is strongly recommended for radial approach closure.

ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE

This study aimed to add evidence and experience on the arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access, as a new approach, for neurointerventional treatment that required arteriovenous approaches.

Preventive effect of aspirin on peripherally inserted central catheter-related vein thrombosis in patients with malignant tumors

The majority of patients receiving chemotherapy undergo PICC catheterization. However, PICCs are significantly associated with catheter related complications, including deep vein thrombosis, blood infection, fibrin sheath, catheter prolapse, catheter displacement and blockage. Of all the risks, PICC-related VT was the most prevailing clinic symptom and resulted in a high risk of death.

AIM

The study aimed to investigate the preventive efficacy and safety of aspirin for patients with malignant tumors receiving venous thrombosis (VT) related with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) treatment.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Participants with malignant tumors receiving chemotherapy who accepted PICC insertion operation were randomly allocated to the aspirin treatment group (n = 235) or the control group (n = 246). The patients in the aspirin group were administrated aspirin (100mg) for 30 days, whereas the patients in control group were administrated a placebo drug. The incidence of PICC-related VT in both groups and the aspirin related adverse effects were evaluated.

RESULTS

The incidence of PICC-related VT was 0.4% in the aspirin group, compared with 3.3% in the control group (P = 0.038). In addition, aspirin related bleeding was not observed.

CONCLUSION

PICC-related VT could be effectively prevented by aspirin in patients with malignant tumors.

Effectiveness of the Hospital-Community-Family Nursing Model in Breast Cancer Patients Discharged with PICC Lines

PURPOSE

To investigate the effectiveness of the hospital-community-family nursing model in breast cancer patients discharged with PICC lines. To investigate the effectiveness of the hospital-community-family nursing model in breast cancer patients discharged with PICC lines.

DESIGN

A randomized controlled study.

METHOD

A total of 160 breast cancer patients who had been discharged from the hospital with PICC lines were enrolled in the study and divided into observation and control groups, each consisting of 80 patients. The control group received conventional nursing care and education, while the observation group received care under the "hospital-community-family" tertiary linkage nursing model.

FINDINGS

The results of this study suggest that the adoption of the hospital-community-family tertiary linkage nursing model can improve compliance and quality of life in breast cancer patients with PICC lines. Additionally, the model can also reduce the likelihood of complications for patients.

CONCLUSION

This study highlights the importance of promoting the application of the hospital-community-family triple linkage nursing model in breast cancer patients with PICC lines to improve the therapeutic effect.

CLINICAL EVIDENCE

The hospital-community-family triple linkage nursing model is an effective strategy to improve the effectiveness of home nursing.

Biomarkers Associated with Thrombosis in Patients with Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND

The measurement and identification of plasma biomarkers can support the estimation of risk and diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) associated with the use of a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC).

OBJECTIVES

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify the association between the levels of potential biomarkers that reflect the activation of the blood system, long-term vascular complications, inflammatory system, and the occurrence of PICC-related DVT.

METHODS

Seven electronic databases (Embase, Web of Science, Medline, Scopus, Cinahl, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ERIC) were searched to identify literature published until December 2022. Studies were required to report: (I) adult and pediatric patients, outpatient or admitted to clinical, surgical, or ICU with PICC; (II) patients with PICC-related DVT and patients without PICC-related DVT as a comparator; and (III) at least one biomarker available. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Study precision was evaluated by using a funnel plot for platelets level. We provided a narrative synthesis and meta-analysis of the findings on the biomarkers' outcomes of the studies. We pooled the results using random effects meta-analysis. The meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager software v5.4. This systematic review is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42018108871).

RESULTS

Of the 3564 studies identified (after duplication removal), 28 were included. PICC-related DVT was associated with higher D-dimers (0.37 μg/mL, 95% CI 0.02, 0.72; p = 0.04, I² = 92%; p for heterogeneity < 0.00001) and with higher platelets (8.76 × 10⁹/L, 95% CI 1.62, 15.91; p = 0.02, I² = 41%; p for heterogeneity = 0.06).

CONCLUSIONS

High levels of D-dimer and platelet were associated with DVT in patients with PICC. However, biomarkers such as APTT, fibrinogen, FDP, glucose, hemoglobin, glycated hemoglobin, INR, prothrombin time, prothrombin fragment 1.2, the thrombin-antithrombin complex, and WBC were not related to the development of DVT associated with PICC.

Right heart thrombus in transit and peripherally inserted central catheters

Right heart thrombus in transit or "free-floating right heart thrombus" is defined as thrombus(i) arising from the deep veins that embolises to the right atrium or right ventricle before reaching the pulmonary vasculature. It is almost always associated with pulmonary thromboembolism and is a medical emergency with reported mortality rates of over 40%. We present two cases of right heart thrombus in transit with pulmonary thromboembolism resulting from venous thrombosis associated with peripherally inserted central catheters that were managed with different approaches. The cases highlight that clinicians should have a low threshold to utilise imaging modalities such as computerised tomography and transthoracic echocardiography when there is an untoward change in physiological parameters among patients with peripherally inserted central catheters, particularly those with risk factors for peripherally inserted central catheter associated venous thrombosis. Furthermore, procedural optimisation surrounding peripherally inserted central catheters, such as insertion technique and choice of lumen size, is underscored.

Clinical Value of Coagulation Index Changes in Early Diagnosis and Nursing Intervention for PICC-Related Venous Thrombosis in Tumor Patients

Purpose

To explore the clinical value of coagulation index changes in early diagnosis and nursing intervention for PICC-related venous thrombosis in tumor patients. Patients and Methods. A total of 170 tumor patients hospitalized for the first time with catheterization were enrolled from February 2018 to June 2022. According to the diagnostic criteria of venous thromboembolism, high-risk patients with venous thrombosis within 13 days after catheterization were enrolled in the observation group, and those without thromboembolism were enrolled in the control group. Venous blood was taken from all patients on days 1, 5, 9, and 13 after catheterization to measure the change trend of coagulation indexes of patients and to compare the difference of coagulation indexes between the observation group and the control group.

Results

PT values of all patients were within the normal reference range at days 1, 5, 9, and 13 after catheterization. Compared with the control group, the observation group was significantly reduced on days 5, 9, and 13 after catheterization (P < 0.05), and continued to decrease with the prolonging of time(P < 0.05). After catheterization, the values of all patients at each time point were lower than the normal reference range. Compared with the control group, the values of tumor patients in the observation group were significantly decreased on days 5, 9, and 13 (P < 0.05) and continued to decrease at each time point (P < 0.05). DD values in the observation group were all higher than the normal reference range on days 1, 5, 9, and 13 after catheterization. Compared with the control group, DD values in the observation group were significantly higher on days 1, 5, 9, and 13 after catheterization (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

PT and APTT continued to decrease after catheterization, and DD kept fluctuating at a high level, highly suggesting the possibility of venous thrombosis. The nursing staff should keep high vigilance and give appropriate nursing intervention.

Association Between ABO Blood Group and Venous Thromboembolism Risk in Patients With Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters: A Meta-analysis and Systematic Review

Background

Previous studies have evaluated the association between ABO blood group and venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in patients with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). However, it remains unclear whether ABO blood groups are associated with PICC-associated VTE risk. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of related studies to elucidate the potential role of ABO blood group as a risk factor for PICC-associated VTE.

Methods

All detectable case-control and cohort studies comparing the role of ABO blood group as a risk factor for PICC-associated VTE were collected for this analysis by searching PubMed, Embase, CNKI, Web of Science, and Wanfang. We conducted a meta-analysis of the eligible studies and computed the summary risk estimates with random or fixed effects models.

Results

A total of four studies involving 7,804 patients were included. Meta-analysis of the studies showed that the risk of PICC-associated VTE was significantly higher in blood types A [odds ratio (OR)=1.54, 95% CI=1.17-2.03), p=0.002], B (OR=2.35, 95% CI=1.71-3.23, p<0.0001), and AB (OR=2.55, 95% CI=1.68-3.88, p<0.0001) and lower in blood types O (OR=0.58, 95% CI=0.45-0.74, p<0.0001). Subgroup analysis based on ethnicity demonstrated that blood type O may be a genetic protective factor for PICC-associated VTE in Asians. Among Caucasians, individuals with blood types B and AB have a higher risk of PICC-associated VTE. Blood types A, B, and AB are risk factors for PICC-associated VTE in Asians.

Conclusions

Blood type O is associated with a decreased risk of PICC-associated VTE, especially in Asian populations. Moreover, blood types A, B, and AB are risk factors for PICC-associated VTE.

Conditional catheter-related thrombosis free probability and risk-adapted choices of catheter for lung cancer

Background

Current predictive tools assess catheter‐related thrombosis (CRT) in patients with lung cancer in a static manner at a single time point of catheterization. The subsequent hazard changes over time are unknown. The conditional catheter‐related thrombosis‐free probability (CCFP) can provide dynamic information on continual CRT‐free expectations. This study aimed to assess the CCFP and hazard rates based on risk categories and various venous access devices (VADs).

Methods

This retrospective study reviewed 939 patients with lung cancer with peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICCs) or central venous catheters (CVCs) identified at the National Clinical Research Center for Cancer between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2018. The incidence of CRT has also been reported. Patients were stratified into low‐ and high‐risk groups according to multivariate Cox regression analyses. CCFP is defined as the CRT‐free probability given that patients have no CRT for a definite time.

Results

A total of 507 patients with PICCs and 432 patients with CVCs were included in this study. The 3‐month CCFP increased from 74.2% at catheter insertion to 93.6% at 3 months. The hazards of CRT in the first month were highest (16.4%) and slightly thereafter. The high‐risk group initially had a higher (21.4%) but significantly decreased CRT hazard after 2 months (8.3%), whereas the low‐risk group maintained a comparable lower risk hazard of less than 5% after 1 month. In the overall cohort, patients with CVCs had lower CRT probability than those with PICCs (HR, 1.76; 95% CI: 1.28–2.41; p < 0.01). Further analysis demonstrated that compared with PICCs, CVCs provided a CRT‐free benefit in low‐risk patients (p = 0.02) but not in high‐risk patients (p = 0.06).

Conclusions

CCFP increased, and the hazards of CRT decreased over time in a risk‐dependent manner in patients with lung cancer. These valuable dynamic data may help optimize risk‐adjusted choices of VADs and risk‐adjusted prophylactic anticoagulation strategies for patients.

A model to assess the risk of peripherally inserted central venous catheter-related thrombosis in patients with breast cancer: a retrospective cohort study

PURPOSE

Limited risk assessment tool to stratify the risk of PICC-related thrombosis (PICC-RVT) in breast cancer patients. This study developed a model to assess the risk of PICC-RVT in breast cancer patients.

METHODS

We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 1284 breast cancer patients receiving PICC insertion from January 1, 2015, to August 31, 2019, at a cancer specialized hospital in Hunan province, China. The entire population was divided into two groups at a ratio of 3:1 which included a derivation sample (n = 978), and a validation sample (n = 284). PICC-RVT was confirmed by ultrasonography in the presence of clinical symptoms and signs.

RESULTS

PICC-RVT occurred in 40 (4.09%) of the derivation sample patients. Multivariable analysis identified 9 variables: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, prior central venous catheter placement, higher level of platelets, higher level of D-dimer, lower level of activated partial thromboplastin time, menopause, no prior breast surgery, upper extremity lymphedema, and endocrine therapy. Points were assigned to each variable according to regression coefficient. The model had an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of 0.850 (95% CI 0.776 to 0.924), The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit was 5.780 (p = 0.328). At a cutoff value of 3.5, the sensitivity and specificity were 75% and 83%, respectively.

CONCLUSION

Several disease-specific factors of breast cancer (e.g., menopause, endocrine therapy, and upper extremity lymphedema) play important roles in the development of PICC-RVT. Patients at higher PICC-RVT risk could be candidates for close post-insertion monitoring and interventions to prevent PICC-RVT.
