Abstract
Traditionally, the AJCC TNM staging system has been the primary tool for assessing the severity and prognosis of laryngeal cancer. Although several studies have demonstrated that the log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) offers superior predictive accuracy compared to the TNM staging for other cancers, there is limited research for laryngeal cancer. This study analyzed data from SEER database (2000-2019). Independent risk factors for survival were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, and different prognostic models were constructed based on the multivariate analysis results. The predictive performance of these models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) values. The results indicated that LODDS subgroup, age, marital status, histologic grade, T-stage, and N-stage were consistent independent prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Assessment metrics showed that the multivariate model, which incorporated both LODDS and N staging, outperformed the individual N staging and LODDS models in predicting postoperative prognosis in laryngeal cancer patients. Overall, the multivariate model constructed in this study is a superior tool for predicting the postoperative status of laryngeal cancer.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the lymph node ratio (LNR) and the prognostic values of gynecological cancer. Materials and methods PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Central Cochrane Library were used to search for studies on LNR and gynecological cancer published before 18 April 2024. The effect measure for meta-analysis of primary outcomes was the hazard ratio (HR) for overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and disease-free survival (DFS). Pooled HRs and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random- or fixed-effects models. Sensitivity analysis was applied to evaluate the robustness of the results. The I 2 statistic was used to measure heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were chosen to illustrate the potential heterogeneity of the risk factors for outcomes. Publication bias was assessed using Egger's test and Begg's funnel plots. Results A total of 34 studies with 23,202 cases were included in this meta-analysis. A meta-analysis found that higher LNR was associated with worse OS (HR = 2.42, 95% CI: 2.07-2.83; I 2 = 77.4%, p < 0.05), PFS (HR = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.66-2.32; I 2 = 0.00%, p > 0.05), and DFS (HR = 3.18, 95% CI: 2.12-4.76; I 2 = 64.3%, p < 0.05). Moreover, meta-analysis revealed significant differences in the association between LNR and OS of cervical cancer (CC) (HR = 2.53, 95% CI: 1.94-3.31; I 2 = 72.6%, p < 0.05), ovarian cancer (OC) (HR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.66-2.54; I 2 = 76.7%, p < 0.05), endometrial cancer (EC) (HR = 2.16, 95% CI: 1.48-3.16; I 2 = 53.6%, p < 0.05), and vulvar cancer (VC) (HR = 8.13, 95% CI: 3.41-19.43; I 2 = 57.2%, p < 0.05). Conclusion We observed a clear association between higher LNR and poorer prognosis in our study of patients with gynecological cancer. Further prospective studies are warranted to determine the optimal LNR and whether LNR can guide adjuvant therapy use in gynecological cancer. It is essential to conduct further prospective studies to establish the optimal LNR threshold, determine the minimum threshold of lymph node removal, and investigate whether LNR can serve as a reliable marker for guiding adjuvant therapy choices in gynecological cancer. Abstract
BACKGROUND To identify the cut-off values for the number of metastatic lymph nodes (nMLN) and lymph node ratio (LNR) that can predict outcomes in patients with FIGO 2018 IIICp cervical cancer (CC). METHODS Patients with CC who underwent radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy were identified for a propensity score-matched (PSM) cohort study. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the critical nMLN and LNR values. Five-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were compared using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazard regression analyses. RESULTS This study included 3,135 CC patients with stage FIGO 2018 IIICp from 47 Chinese hospitals between 2004 and 2018. Based on ROC curve analysis, the cut-off values for nMLN and LNR were 3.5 and 0.11, respectively. The final cohort consisted of nMLN ≤ 3 (n = 2,378) and nMLN > 3 (n = 757) groups and LNR ≤ 0.11 (n = 1,748) and LNR > 0.11 (n = 1,387) groups. Significant differences were found in survival between the nMLN ≤ 3 vs the nMLN > 3 (post-PSM, OS: 76.8% vs 67.9%, P = 0.003; hazard ratio [HR]: 1.411, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.108-1.798, P = 0.005; DFS: 65.5% vs 55.3%, P < 0.001; HR: 1.428, 95% CI: 1.175-1.735, P < 0.001), and the LNR ≤ 0.11 and LNR > 0.11 (post-PSM, OS: 82.5% vs 76.9%, P = 0.010; HR: 1.407, 95% CI: 1.103-1.794, P = 0.006; DFS: 72.8% vs 65.1%, P = 0.002; HR: 1.347, 95% CI: 1.110-1.633, P = 0.002) groups. CONCLUSIONS This study found that nMLN > 3 and LNR > 0.11 were associated with poor prognosis in CC patients.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is a major global health concern. Prognostic markers for cervical cancer have traditionally focused on tumor characteristics. However, there is a growing recognition of the importaxnce of the nutritional status of the patient as a possible prognostic indicator. The present meta-analysis aims to estimate the role of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in predicting overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with cervical cancer. Medline, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Cochrane Central databases were systematically searched for studies reporting PNI in patients with cervical cancer. Inclusion criteria were applied to select relevant studies and data extraction was performed by two independent investigators. Risk of bias was assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). The present meta-analysis included 10 studies with 2,352 participants. The pooled analysis showed that in patients with cervical cancer PNI did not have a significant prognostic utility in predicting OS [univariate hazard ration (HR): 1.38; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.77-2.48) or PFS (univariate HR: 1.12; 95% CI: 0.44-2.68). These results were consistent even after adjusting for other confounders using multivariate analysis (pooled HR: 1.06 for OS; 95% CI: 0.64-1.76; pooled HR: 1.22 for PFS; 95% CI: 0.65-2.30). Subgroup analyses were also performed based on region, PNI cut-off, sample size, grade of evidence and treatment protocol and did not demonstrate any significant prognostic value of PNI. The funnel plot demonstrated symmetry, suggesting the absence of publication bias. The present meta-analysis indicated that PNI does not have a significant prognostic utility in predicting OS or PFS in women with cervical cancer. Further research is warranted to explore alternative nutritional indicators and identify reliable prognostic markers in this patient population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) has been widely used in developing countries for the treatment of patients with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stages IB3 and IIA2 cervical cancer. However, the effectiveness of NACT and treatment options for NACT-insensitive patients have been concerning. This study will assess prognostic differences between NACT and primary surgery treatment (PST), determine factors associated with prognosis, and explore better adjuvant treatment modalities for NACT-insensitive patients. METHODS This study analyzed clinical characteristics, pathological characteristics, treatment options, and follow-up information of 774 patients with FIGO stages IB3 and IIA2 cervical cancer from 28 centers from January 2016 to October 2019 who participated in a multicenter, prospective, randomized controlled trial. RESULTS For patients undergoing NACT, the 5-year OS and PFS rate was 85.8 and 80.5% respectively. They were similar in the PST group. There was no significant difference in OS and PFS between clinical response (CR)/partial response (PR) groups and stable disease (SD)/progressive disease (PD) groups. Apart from deep cervical invasion (p = 0.046) affecting OS for patients undergoing NACT, no other clinical and pathological factors were associated with OS. 97.8% of NACT-insensitive patients opted for surgery. If these patients did not have intermediate- or high-risk factors, whether they had undergone postoperative adjuvant therapy was irrelevant to their prognosis, whereas for patients with intermediate- or high-risk factors, adjuvant chemotherapy resulted in better PFS (chemotherapy vs. no therapy, p < 0.001; chemotherapy vs. radiotherapy, p = 0.019) and OS (chemotherapy vs. no therapy, p < 0.001; chemotherapy vs. radiotherapy, p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS NACT could be a choice for patients with FIGO stages IB3 and IIA2 cervical cancer. The main risk factor influencing prognosis in the NACT group is deep cervical invasion. After systematic treatment, insensitivity to NACT does not indicate a poorer prognosis. For NACT-insensitive patients, Chinese prefer surgery. Postoperative adjuvant therapy in patients with no intermediate- or high-risk factors does not improve prognosis, and chemotherapy in patients with intermediate- and high-risk factors is more effective than radiation therapy and other treatments. Abstract
BACKGROUND The role of the lymph node ratio (LNR) in the existing tumor node metastasis classification system should be verified as one of the prognosis prediction factors. This work evaluated LNR's performance in predicting cervical cancer (CC) prognosis through a meta-analysis. METHOD Related studies were retrieved from the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and PubMed databases. The language was restricted to English. The combined hazard ratios (HRs) were utilized to analyze the prognostic value of LNR. RESULTS Our study included 8 articles with 3325 subjects published after 2015. Based on our analysis, high LNR was the adverse prognostic factor for overall survival (OS, HR = 1.45; 95% CI = 1.23-1.73; P = .238) and disease-free survival (DFS, HR = 2.69; 95% CI = 1.98-3.66; P = .597) among the CC cases. Furthermore, as revealed by subgroup analysis, in CC patients, median LNR of about 0.0625 and 0.066 served as the prominent risk factor for DFS and OS. CONCLUSIONS The current work illustrates that elevated LNR is related to the dismal prognosis of CC. More well-designed clinical studies are warranted for assessing whether LNR is a factor independently predicting the prognosis of CC.

Abstract
Background: Frailty has become a major health problem among Indonesian elders. Immunosenescence specifically inflammaging are essential components in the development of frailty. Early screening and timely tailored intervention may effectively prevent or delay the adverse outcomes in elders. This study measured the CD4/CD8 ratio from the immunosenescence pathway and plasma IL-6 levels as inflammatory markers from the inflammaging pathway and observed the correlations between robust and frail elders groups
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey. Using multistage random sampling, we enrolled 64 participants across Malang city, divided into frail and robust groups. We analyzed the plasma IL-6 levels and CD4/CD8 ratio using an independent t-test and the Mann–Whitney U test.
Results: Significant differences between frail and robust elders were found in age and education level, with the frail participants being older than the robust (p=0.001) and lower educational level (p<0.001). However, plasma IL-6 levels (p=0.936) and the CD4/CD8 ratio (p=0.468) were not statistically different between the groups.
Conclusion: Plasma level of IL-6 was found to increase similarly in both groups, while CD4/CD8 ratio was normal and not statistically different between the robust and frail group in elders.

Abstract
Background The 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging guideline for cervical cancer includes stage IIIC recognized by preoperative radiology (IIIC-r) to state there are lymph nodes metastases (LNM) identified by imaging tools. We aim to explore the reasonability and limitations of stage IIIC-r and try to explore the potential reasons. Methods Electronic medical records were used to identify patients with cervical cancer. According to the new staging guidelines, patients were reclassified and assigned into five cohorts: stage I, stage II, stage IIIC-r, LNM confirmed by pathology (IIIC-p) and LNM detected by radiology and confirmed by pathology (IIIC r + p). Five-year overall survivals were estimated for each cohort. The diagnosis accuracy of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diameter of detected lymph nodes were also evaluated. Results A total of 619 patients were identified. The mean follow-up months were 65 months (95% CI 64.43–65.77) for all patients. By comparison, the 5-year overall survival rates were not statistically different (p = 0.21) among stage IIIC-r, stage I and stage II. While, the rates were both statistical different (p<0.001) among stage IIIC-p, IIIC r + p and stage I and stage II. The sensitivities of CT and MRI in detecting LNM preoperatively were 51.2 and 48.8%. The mean maximum diameter of pelvic lymph nodes detected by CT cohort was 1.2 cm in IIIC-r cohort, and was 1.3 cm in IIIC r + p cohort. While, the mean maximum diameter of pelvic lymph nodes detected by MRI was 1.2 cm in IIIC-r cohort, and was 1.48 cm in IIIC r + p cohort. When the diagnosis efficacy of the diameter of pelvic lymph nodes in detecting LNM were evaluated, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) was 0.58 (p = 0.05). Conclusions It seems that the FIGO 2018 staging guideline for cervical cancer is likely to has certain limitations for the classification of those with LNM. CT or MRI, however, has limitations on detecting LNM. It would be better to use more accurate imaging tools to identify LNM in the clinical practices.

Abstract
Purpose Stage IIIC1 cervical cancer showed heterogeneous in oncologic outcomes with highly variable survival rates. Our objective was to determine the prognostic significance of removed and metastatic pelvic lymph node status and further perform risk stratification in patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer. Patients and Methods Patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer and undergoing radical hysterectomy with lymphadenectomy in 2008–2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients’ stage was classified using the revised 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging schema. Univariate and multivariable models were used to examine the association between removed and metastatic lymph node status and recurrence-free survival/overall survival. Results During a median follow-up of 34 months, 73 relapses and 44 deaths were observed among 273 patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer. Parametrial involvement and metastatic lymph node ratio (mLNR) were identified as independent predictors for recurrence-free survival. Parametrial involvement and mLNR were independent predictors for overall survival. A stratification system was then created based on parametrial involvement and mLNR. A total of 123 (45.1%), 127 (46.5%) and 23 (8.4%) patients were classified into the low-risk, intermediate-risk, and high-risk groups, with as a 5-year recurrence-free survival of 81.7%, 51.1%, 38%, respectively. Compared to the low-risk group, the intermediate- and high-risk groups had a significantly greater risk of recurrence and death. Conclusion The prognosis of stage IIIC1p patients varied significantly. A risk stratification system based on parametrial involvement and mLNR successfully separated patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk group. Our findings could facilitate the practical use of further stratification in Stage IIIC1p cervical cancer.

Abstract
Background: The proportion of the number of involved lymph nodes (LNs) to the number of examined LNs—defined as metastatic LN ratio (mLNR)—has been considered as a prognostic parameter. This study aims to elucidate the prognostic implication of the mLNR in colorectal cancer (CRC) according to the tumor location. Methods: We evaluated the correlation between prognoses and the involved and examined LNs as well as mLNR according to the tumor location in 266 surgically resected human CRCs. Besides, to evaluate the optimal cutoff for high and low mLNRs, we investigated the correlation between mLNR and survival according to the various cutoffs. Results: LN metastasis was found in 146 cases (54.9%), and colon and rectal cancers were found in 116 (79.5%) and 30 (20.5%) of the cases, respectively. The mean mLNRs were significantly higher in rectal cancer than in colon cancer (0.38 ± 0.28 vs. 0.21 ± 0.24, P = 0.003). Besides this, the number of involved LNs in rectal cancer was significantly high compared to colon cancer (11.83 ± 10.92 vs. 6.37 ± 7.78, P = 0.014). However, there was no significant difference in the examined LNs between the rectal and colon cancers (31.90 ± 12.28 vs. 36.60 ± 18.11, P = 0.181). In colon cancer, a high mLNR was significantly correlated with worse survival for all cutoffs (0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4). However, rectal cancer only showed a significant correlation between high mLNR and worse survival in the subgroup with a cutoff of 0.2. Conclusions: Our results showed that high mLNR was significantly correlated with worse survival. The number of involved LNs and mLNRs were significantly higher in rectal cancer than in colon cancer. The cutoff of 0.2 can be useful for the differentiation of prognostic groups, regardless of tumor location.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic value of lymph node ratio (LNR) in women with 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IIIC cervical cancer. Methods In this retrospective dual-institutional study, a total of 185 node-positive cervical cancer patients who had undergone radical hysterectomy with systematic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy were included. All of the patients received adjuvant chemoradiation after surgery. LNR was defined as the ratio of positive lymph nodes (LNs) to the total number of LNs removed. The patients were categorized into 2 groups according to LNR; LNR <0.05 and LNR ≥0.05. The prognostic value of LNR was evaluated with univariate log-rank tests and multivariate Cox regression models. Results A total of 138 patients (74.6%) had stage IIIC1 disease and 47 (25.4%) patients had stage IIIC2 disease. With a median follow-up period of 45.5 months (range 3–135 months), the 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate was 62.5% whereas the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate was 70.4% for the entire study population. The 5-year DFS rates for LNR <0.05 and LNR ≥0.05 were 78.2%, and 48.4%, respectively (p<0.001). Additionally, the 5-year OS rates for LNR <0.05 and LNR ≥0.05 were 80.6%, and 61.2%, respectively (p=0.007). On multivariate analysis, LNR ≥0.05 was associated with a worse DFS (hazard ratio [HR]=2.12; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.15–3.90; p=0.015) and OS (HR=1.95; 95% CI=1.01–3.77; p=0.046) in women with stage IIIC cervical cancer. Conclusions LNR ≥0.05 seems to be an independent prognostic factor for decreased DFS and OS in stage IIIC cervical carcinoma.

Abstract
The precise involvement and mechanisms of human papilloma virus type 16 (HPV16) in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and squamous cervical cancer (SCC) remain unknown. The present study aimed to examine the expression of EMT indicators and their association with HPV16 in CIN and early stage SCC, and their prognostic value in early stage SCC. The expression levels of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, β-catenin, vimentin, and fibronectin were determined by immunohistochemistry in 40 patients with normal uterine cervix, 22 patients with CIN1, 60 patients with CIN2-3, and 86 patients with SCC, stage Ia-IIa, according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The expression of the epithelial indicators E-cadherin and β-catenin gradually declined, and the mesenchymal indicators N-cadherin, vimentin, and fibronectin increased with progression of the cervical lesions (P<0.05). Patients with SCC with lymph node metastasis, parametrial invasion, negative E-cadherin, and negative β-catenin expression had shorter overall survival (P=0.001, P=0.015, P=0.014, and P=0.043, respectively) and disease-free survival (P=0.002, P=0.021, P=0.025, and P=0.045, respectively) time. Multivariate survival analysis indicated that lymph node metastasis [Hazard ratio (HR)=3.544; P=0.010], parametrial invasion (HR=2.014; P=0.007) and E-cadherin expression (HR=0.163; P<0.001) were independently associated with overall survival, but also with disease-free survival (HR=3.612, P=0.009; HR=1.935, P=0.011; HR=0.168, P<0.001, respectively). In patients with CINs, HPV16 infection was negatively correlated with the expression of E-cadherin, and positively correlated with the expression of N-cadherin, vimentin, and fibronectin. EMT occurs during the progression of CINs to early stage SCC, and is associated with HPV16 infection in CINs. Lymph node metastasis and parametrial invasion are poor prognostic factors for SCC, while positive E-cadherin expression may serve as a protective prognostic factor for SCC.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant neoplasms in gynecology. Protein tyrosine kinase 7 (PTK7) with an inactive kinase domain is an important regulator of multiple Wnt pathways under normal and various pathological conditions and overexpressed in various tumors; however, the clinical and biological significance of PTK7 in cervical cancer is still unknown. In the present study, the protein expression level of PTK7 was detected in clinical cervical cancer patient samples, and the relationship between PTK7 expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed. In addition, the Kaplan-Meier method was performed to estimate the overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of patients to investigate the clinicopathological significance of PTK7 expression. Functional assays demonstrated that knocking down PTK7 might inhibit the ability of cancer cells to proliferate and invade or migrate, both in vivo and in vitro. Thus, PTK7 might serve as a potential target for cervical cancer.

Abstract
Lymph node (LN) metastasis at an early stage of cervical cancer is often an indicator of poor prognosis and is critical for subsequent adjuvant therapy. The current study aimed to identify aberrant gene signatures and biomarkers of metastasis for patients with cervical cancer. RNA-sequencing data of 132 LN negative (N0) and 60 LN positive (N1) cervical cancer samples obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database were analyzed. Differentially expressed genes were identified using R packages 'edgeR' and 'limma'. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) were conducted. The GSE9750 dataset obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus was analyzed to identify genes that are persistently aberrantly expressed during the development of cervical cancer. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway was screened out to be significant during LN metastasis. In the two analyzed datasets, 11 genes were aberrantly expressed, while matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP1) was the only gene that was persistently overexpressed. Cell viability, wound healing and Transwell assays were performed to evaluate the effects of MMP1 knockdown in cervical cancer cell lines, and the expression of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers was detected. Finally, the clinical significance of MMP1 was investigated. The current study identified that MMP1 was overexpressed and the PPAR signaling pathway was associated LN metastasis in patients with cervical cancer. Following knockdown of MMP1, the proliferation, migration and invasion of cervical cancer cell lines were weakened, the expression of epithelial marker E-cadherin was increased, and the expression of metastasis-associated gene vimentin was decreased. MMP1 was an independent prognostic factor for cervical cancer. The current study indicated that MMP1 has a key role in the regulation of cervical tumor growth and LN metastasis via EMT to a certain extent. The results suggest that MMP1 may be a biomarker for LN metastasis of cervical cancer, and further validation should be performed.

Abstract
Purpose We aimed to assess prognostic value of metastatic pelvic lymph node (mPLN) in early-stage cervical cancer treated with radical surgery followed by postoperative chemoradiotherapy. Also, we sought to define a high-risk group using prognosticators for recurrence. Materials and Methods A multicenter retrospective study was conducted using the data from 13 Korean institutions from 2000 to 2010. A total of 249 IB-IIA patients with high-risk factors were included. We evaluated distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in relation to clinicopathologic factors including pNstage, number of mPLN, lymph node (LN)ratio (number of positive LN/number of harvested LN), and log odds of mPLNs (log(number of positive LN+0.5/number of negative LN+0.5)). Results In univariate analysis, histology (squamous cell carcinoma [SqCC] vs. others), lymphovascular invasion (LVI), number of mPLNs (≤ 3 vs. > 3), LN ratio (≤ 17% vs. > 17%), and log odds of mPLNs (≤ ‒0.58 vs. > ‒0.58) were significant prognosticators for DMFS and DFS. Resection margin involvement only affected DFS. No significant survival difference was observed between pN0 patients and patients with 1-3 mPLNs. Multivariate analysis revealed that mPLN > 3, LVI, and non-SqCC were unfavorable index for both DMFS (p < 0.001, p=0.020, and p=0.031, respectively) and DFS (p < 0.001, p=0.017, and p=0.001, respectively). A scoring system using these three factors predicts risk of recurrence with relatively high concordance index (DMFS, 0.69; DFS, 0.71). Conclusion mPLN > 3 in early-stage cervical cancer affects DMFS and DFS. A scoring system using mPLNs > 3, LVI, and non-SqCC could stratify risk groups of recurrence in surgically resected early-stage cervix cancer with high-risk factors.

Prognostic value of the pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in cervical cancer: a meta-analysis and systematic review. Oncotarget 2017; 8:13400-13412. Abstract
The prognostic value of pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in cervical cancer remains controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis based on the data from 13 studies with 3729 patients to evaluate the association between the pretreatment NLR and the clinical outcomes of overall survival and progression-free survival in patients with cervical cancer. The relationship between NLR and clinicopathological parameters was also assessed. Hazard ratio (HR) or odds ratio (OR) with its 95% confidence interval (CI) was used as the effect size estimate. Our analysis indicated that elevated pretreatment NLR was a poor prognostic marker for patients with cervical cancer because it predicted unfavorable overall survival (HR = 1.375, 95% CI: 1.200–1.576) and progression-free survival (HR = 1.646, 95% CI: 1.313–2.065). Increased NLR is also significantly associated with the larger tumor size (OR = 1.780, 95% CI: 1.090–2.908), advanced clinical stage (OR = 2.443, 95% CI: 1.730–3.451), and positive lymph node metastasis (OR = 2.380, 95% CI: 1.775–3.190). By these results, high pretreatment NLR predicted a shorter survival period for patients with cervical cancer, and it could be served as a novel index of prognostic evaluation in patients with cervical cancer.
