Abstract
In China, despite the rapid increase in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs), cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is just burgeoning, leaving a need for comprehensive evidence-based education curricula. This pilot study assessed the acceptability of Simplified Chinese CR education delivered via booklets and videos on WeChat asynchronously and the impact on improving knowledge, risk factors, health behaviors and quality of life. In this pre-post, controlled, observational study, interested PCI patients received the 12-week intervention or usual care and WeChat without education. Participants completed validated surveys, including the Coronary Artery Disease Education-Questionnaire and Self-Management Scale. Acceptability (14 Likert-type items), engagement (minutes per week) and satisfaction were assessed in intervention participants. Ninety-six patients consented to participate (n = 49 intervention), of which 66 (68.8%) completed the follow-up assessments. Twenty-seven (77.1%) retained intervention participants engaged with the materials, rating content as highly acceptable (all means ≥4/5) and satisfactory (2.19 ± 0.48/3); those engaging more with the intervention were significantly more satisfied (P = 0.03). While participants in both groups achieved some improvements, only intervention participants had significant increases in disease-related knowledge, reductions in body mass index and triglycerides, as well as improvements in diet (all P < 0.05). In this first study validating the recently translated CR patient education intervention, acceptability and benefits have been supported.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Patient education (PE) delivered during exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) aims to promote health behaviour change, including attendance at CR exercise sessions, by imparting knowledge about coronary artery disease (CAD) and improving CR-related attitudes. This study evaluated the impact of PE on aspects of patient motivation (i.e., CAD-related knowledge, attitudes towards CR) and exercise session attendance. METHODS Adults with CAD referred to a 12-week CR program were recruited. CAD knowledge, perceived necessity/suitability of CR, exercise concerns, and barriers to CR were assessed pre/post-PE, and at 12-week follow-up. CR exercise attendance was obtained by chart review. RESULTS Among 90 patients (60 ± 10 years; 88% men), CAD knowledge and perceived necessity of CR improved pre- to post-PE; gains persisted at 12-weeks. Stronger pre-CR intentions to attend exercise sessions predicted greater attendance. Greater knowledge gains did not predict improvements in CR attitudes or exercise attendance. CONCLUSION Whereas PE may be useful for improving knowledge and attitudes regarding CAD self-management, more formative research is needed to determine whether PE can promote CR attendance. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Cardiac PE programs may be more successful in promoting exercise attendance if they target patients' behavioural intentions to attend and attitudes toward CR, rather than focussing exclusively on imparting knowledge.

Abstract
PURPOSE Knowledge assessment tools are highly useful in clinical practice, as they help health care teams to customize education and clinical care plans based on the needs of patients. The objective of this study was to develop and validate the DiAbeTes Education Questionnaire (DATE-Q) to measure knowledge among diabetes and prediabetes patients attending cardiac rehabilitation (CR). METHODS Based on patient information needs, other validated tools and diabetes education standards and current practices, experts developed 20 items to comprise the first version of the DATE-Q. To establish content validity, they were reviewed by an expert panel (n = 12) and patients. Refined items were psychometrically tested in 84 diabetes and prediabetes patients attending CR. The internal consistency was assessed via regularized factor analysis and Cronbach α, and criterion validity with regard to patient education and family income. For interpretability analysis, the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) was estimated using distribution- and anchor-based methods. RESULTS All items were appropriate for administration in this population according to experts and patients. Three factors were extracted and were generally internally consistent and well defined by the items. Criterion validity was supported by significant differences in mean scores by family income (P < .05). Results showed that increases in knowledge can moderately increase mean steps/d and peak oxygen uptake, with an MCID of 2.13. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated preliminary validity of the DATE-Q. Future research is needed to assess other measurement properties to confirm the applicability of this tool in clinical and research settings.

Abstract
Cardiac rehabilitation program is well-established but the Rehabilitation After Myocardial Infarction Trial (RAMIT) is reported that it does not affect mortality and morbidity of patients after myocardial infarction during follow-up period. The objectives of the study were to compare functional walking capacity, risk factor control, and morbidities in follow-up for cardiac rehabilitation (exercise + education), exercise only, and usual care among patients with coronary artery disease. A total of 492 male and female patients (age range: 45-73 years) with coronary artery disease after myocardial infarction or underwent percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting surgeries referred to cardiac rehabilitation were included in the study. Patients were participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program (exercise + education, CRP cohort, n = 125), exercise only (USC cohort, n = 182), or usual care (NCR cohort, n = 185). Data regarding incremental shuttle walk test, lipid profile, the Patient Health Questionnaire 9, and morbidities in follow-up of patients were retrospectively collected and analyzed. After completion of 1 year, cardiac rehabilitation program (p < 0.0001, q = 20.939) and exercise (p < 0.0001, q = 6.059) were successfully increased incremental shuttle walk test. After completion of 1 year, cardiac rehabilitation program reduced low-density lipoprotein (p = 0.007, q = 3.349) and depressive symptoms (p < 0.0001, q = 5.649). Morbidities were reported fewer in the patients of CRP cohort than those of USC (p = 0.003, q = 3.427) and NCR (p = 0.003, q = 4.822) cohorts after completion of 1 year of program. Cardiac rehabilitation program (exercise +education) improved functional walking capacity, controlled risk factors, and reduced morbidities of patients with coronary artery disease than exercise only and usual care (Level of evidence: III).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To validate the Spanish Coronary Artery Disease Education Questionnaire Short Version(CADE-QSV). BACKGROUND Knowledge assessment can tailor patient education strategies in CR. METHODS Ten CR experts culturally-adapted the translated tool and 249 CR patients in three countries participated in the psychometrically validation. The internal consistency was assessed using KR-20 and Cronbach's alpha. Distribution- and anchor-based methods were used to estimate the MCID for interpretability analysis. Factor structure, acceptability, floor and ceiling effects and discriminant validity were also assessed. RESULTS KR-20 was 0.75.Factor analysis revealed 5 factors, all internally consistent. Discriminant validity was supported by significant differences in educational level and family income at post-CR. Results showed that increases in knowledge can moderately increase mean steps per day, with MCID=3.00. Items were completed by 98% of participants. No evidence for ceiling/floor effects on total score. The area with the highest knowledge was nutrition and the lowest was medical condition. CONCLUSION The Spanish CADE-QSV demonstrated preliminary validity and reliability.
