Abstract
Insulin has an important regulatory effect on the heart, and the important regulatory effect of insulin on the heart is the regulation of substrate utilization. Studies have shown that aging is closely related to insulin resistance, and aging is thought to be one of the underlying causes of insulin resistance. Additionally, chronic inflammation is a major risk factor for aging and aging-related diseases. How to delay or reverse insulin resistance caused by aging is an important scientific problem. In the current study, we used cardiomyocyte cell lines and isolated heart cells as an in vitro model, and aged mice as in vivo model to study the effect of KAT7 on insulin resistance, and results showed that knockdown or inhibiting KAT7 can significantly increase the insulin sensitivity in vivo and in vitro. In addition, the knockdown of KAT7 could reduce inflammation and oxidative stress caused by aging. These findings indicate that KAT7 can be used as one of the potential targets for the treatment of insulin resistance caused by aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) represents a group of synthetic testosterone derivatives that play an important role in clinical treatment. These drugs are widely abused among the general public to increase lean weight and improve athletic performance. It has been reported that AAS use can produce many adverse effects, especially the occurrence of cardiovascular risk. Although there are many related studies, there has been no consensus on AAS use and cardiovascular risk. The present study was to review the effect of AAS on the cardiovascular system. DATA SOURCES The data in this review were obtained from articles included in PubMed and the National Center for Biotechnology Information database. STUDY SELECTION Original articles, case reports, and systematic reviews about AAS were selected for the article. RESULTS The use/abuse of AAS is correlated with higher cardiovascular risks, and many AAS users/abusers had cardiovascular diseases. However, there are many confounding factors in the studies that explored the causality between AAS intake and disease development, and additional studies are required to determine AAS toxicity. CONCLUSION AAS produces toxic effects on the cardiovascular system, and it is necessary to ensure that more people know this about AAS, including medical personnel.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The positive relationship between lean mass (LM) and bone health is well known, but a positive association between insulin and LM has also been described. Insulin has some anabolic properties on bone through the stimulation of osteoblast differentiation, yet the role of LM as a confounder or mediator in this relationship remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE To examine whether the association between insulin levels and bone health is mediated by LM. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Castilla La Mancha University (Spain) involving 466 young adults (113 young men; 19.5±2.3 years). LM and total-body bone mineral content (BMC) were measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, and insulin was measured in fasting serum samples. RESULTS Young adults with high total LM had higher values of total-body BMC than their peers after controlling for age and sex, this relationship persisted after adjusting for insulin levels (p<0.001). In mediation analyses, insulin levels were positively associated with total-body BMC (b = 0.05; p<0.001) and total LM acted as an intermediate variable, attenuating the association between insulin levels and total-body BMC (b = -31.98; p>0.05) as indicated by Sobel test values for indirect effect (z = 4.43; p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS LM plays an important role in the relationship between insulin levels and bone health, in such a way that while increases in LM have a positive influence on bone health, they are also negatively associated with insulin levels.

Abstract
Due to rapidly rising rates of diabetes and prediabetic conditions worldwide and the associated lethal complications, it is imperative to devise new diagnostic tools that reliably and directly measure insulin levels in clinical samples. Herein, we report a simple and sensitive direct imaging of insulin levels in diabetic patient samples using a surface plasmon resonance microarray imager (SPRi). To enhance sensitivity, we utilized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) to capture insulin from serum samples either directly or via a capture antibody immobilized on MNPs. The insulin-captured nanoparticles were allowed to bind surface insulin-antibody for detection from pixel intensity increase using a charge coupled device (CCD) built-in with the SPRi. We have compared the analytical figures-of-merit of the SPRi immunoarray on detecting insulin prepared in various percentages of serum solutions. A four parameter logistic model was used to obtain the best fit of microarray responses with insulin concentration and indicated the cooperative binding of insulin-nanoparticle conjugates to surface antibody in both the buffer insulin and the serum insulin conjugates with MNPs. The cooperativity effect is attributed to the greater association of magnetic nanoparticle-bound insulin molecules with increasing concentration of insulin binding to surface antibody. This is the first report of an SPRi immunoarray to accomplish clinical diagnosis of diabetic and prediabetic conditions based on insulin levels with serum matrix effect analysis and comparison between direct and sandwich insulin assay formats.

Abstract
Cognitive enhancement can be defined as the use of drugs and/or other means with the
aim to improve the cognitive functions of healthy subjects in particular memory, attention, creativity
and intelligence in the absence of any medical indication. Currently, it represents one of the most
debated topics in the neuroscience community. Human beings always wanted to use substances to
improve their cognitive functions, from the use of hallucinogens in ancient civilizations in an attempt
to allow them to better communicate with their gods, to the widespread use of caffeine under various
forms (energy drinks, tablets, etc.), to the more recent development of drugs such as stimulants and glutamate activators.
In the last ten years, increasing attention has been given to the use of cognitive enhancers, but up to now there is still only
a limited amount of information concerning the use, effect and functioning of cognitive enhancement in daily life on
healthy subjects. The first aim of this paper was to review current trends in the misuse of smart drugs (also known as
Nootropics) presently available on the market focusing in detail on methylphenidate, trying to evaluate the potential risk
in healthy individuals, especially teenagers and young adults. Moreover, the authors have explored the issue of cognitive
enhancement compared to the use of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) in sports. Finally, a brief overview of the
ethical considerations surrounding human enhancement has been examined.

Abstract
Affinity-based biosensors (ABBs) have started to be considered in sport medicine and doping control analysis because they are cheap, easy to use and sufficiently selective analytical devices, characterized by a reversible interaction with the analyte under investigation allowing the use of the same sensor for multiple analyses. In this review we describe the main categories of substances reported in the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List and how ABBs may contribute to their detection. Although several ABBs proposed in the last few years display limit of detections that are in principle matching the World Anti-Doping Agency requirements, their application in the framework of 'traditional' antidoping tests seems quite unlikely, mainly because of the still insufficient selectivity especially in the case of 'pseudo-endogenous' compounds, and on the lack of complete information regarding potential matrix effects in real samples and following their routine use. At the same time, ABBs could contribute to fill a significant information gap concerning complementary evidence that can be obtained from their use 'on the spot', as well as to preselect a risk population of individuals to be targeted for a full antidoping test; while in sport medicine they could contribute to obtaining analytical information of physiological relevance from the measurement of specific parameters or markers before, during and after physical exercise.

Abstract
The illicit use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) has gained popularity among adolescents in the last decade. However, although it is known that exposure to AAS impairs cognition in adult animal models, the cognitive effects during adolescence remain undetermined. An inhibitory avoidance task (IAT) was used to assess the effect of AAS (17α-methyltestosterone; 17α-meT--7.5 mg/kg) in male and female periadolescent rats. A single injection of 17α-meT immediately before the footshock produced significant impairment of inhibitory avoidance learning in males but not females. Generalized anxiety, locomotion, and risk assessment behaviors (RAB) were not affected. Our results show that exposure to a single pharmacological dose of 17α-meT during periadolescence exerts sex-specific cognitive effects without affecting anxiety. Thus, disruption of the hormonal milieu during this early developmental period might have negative impact on learning and memory.

Abstract
Within a system of societal inequities, privilege consists of unearned advantages that are conferred on individuals based on membership or assumed membership in a dominant group. This article describes the relationship between privilege and oppression, dimensions of privilege, characteristics of privilege, costs of privilege, and resistance to awareness of privilege. Understanding of privilege can enhance counseling psychology practice, research, training, and professional organizations. The article concludes with recommendations for exploring privilege and a vision for systemic change.

Abstract
In a study of performance-enhancing substance use among 231 experienced young male weightlifters, we found that 27 (12%) reported illicit use of human growth hormone (HGH) or its bioactive derivative, insulin-like growth factor-1. All of these 27 men also reported use of anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) and 22 (81%) met criteria for current or past AAS dependence. Fifteen (56%) also reported current or past dependence on opioids, cocaine, and/or ecstasy. These findings suggest that among young male weightlifters, illicit HGH use has become a common form of substance abuse, frequently associated with both AAS dependence and classical substance dependence.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To provide information of the current prevalence of illicit use of androgens by individuals of the community. RECENT FINDINGS Prevalence of abuse of androgens in individuals of the general population has reached alarming dimensions. Use of androgens is no longer limited to competitive sports, but has spread to leisure and fitness sports, bodybuilding, and nonathletes motivated to increase muscular mass and physical attractiveness. Alarming studies from Germany demonstrated that members of the healthcare systems provide illegal androgens to 48.1% of abusers visiting fitness centers. The new trend to combine androgens with growth hormone, insulin, and insulinotropic milk protein-fortified drinks may potentiate health risks of androgen abuse. SUMMARY The use of androgens has changed from being a problem restricted to sports to one of public health concern. The potential health hazards of androgen abuse are underestimated in the medical community, which unfortunately contributes to illegal distribution of androgens. Both the adverse effects of current androgen abuse especially in young men as well as the chronic toxicity from past long-term abuse of now middle-aged men has to be considered as a growing public health problem. In the future, an increasing prevalence of androgen misuse in combination with other growth-promoting hormones and insulinotropic milk protein products has to be expected, which may have further promoting effects on the prevalence of chronic western diseases.
