Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the rise of research biobanks in the Middle East, they continue to struggle with the limited number of donors. Although qualified healthcare professionals may address it, the awareness of biobanks among future physicians is low. This paper assesses the attitudes towards research biobanks among Iranian medical students. METHODS 459 medical students completed an anonymous self-administered online questionnaire regarding the knowledge and attitudes of future physicians towards biobanking. RESULTS This study demonstrates that almost half of the students had not heard about biobanks, and one-third had mixed feelings about biobank research. The majority declared a willingness to share their biological material for biobank research and declared altruistic motivation. Students' willingness to donate was influenced by the type of tissues, the purpose of biobank research and trust in biobanks, which influenced their preference for a study-specific consent model. Students expressed concern over biospecimens' unethical or commercial use and data safety. CONCLUSION This research shows that promoting knowledge about biobank-based research among future physicians in Iran is crucial.

Abstract
Background Difficulties in the biobank progress are often associated with insufficient public awareness, but it is also worth paying attention to healthcare and science professionals who play an important role in the development of this area. This article presents results of the research on awareness toward biobanking and motivation to collaborate among employees of 3 medical and scientific organizations in Russia. Methods The anonymous survey was carried out via an online platform. The research included 176 healthcare and science professionals. To assess the differences between the groups the Pearson Chi-square test and the contingency coefficient were used. To find correlations between nominal and interval variables the Eta criterion was applied. Results It was found that 88.1% of respondents were aware of biobanking in general, however, 15.0% were not aware of a biobank in their organization or had difficulty in answering this question. The experience of cooperation with biobanks was not particularly extensive - more than half of the respondents (60.3%) indicated that they had never contacted biobanks. 11.9% of participants became donors themselves. 35.0% - suggested to their friends and patients to become donors, while 86.2% were willing to do this in the future. The study showed that the respondents who already had experience working with biobanks, as well as those who themselves act as a donor, rated the importance of their activities higher. Conclusion It is important to increase not only awareness but also motivation to cooperate with biobanks and be willing to take on different roles.

Abstract
Invasive biological samples collected during clinical care represent a valuable yet underutilized source of information about human biology. However, the challenges of working with clinical personnel and the invasive nature of sample collection in biomedical studies can hinder the acquisition of sufficiently large sample sizes for robust statistical analyses. In addition, the incorporation of demographic data from participants is crucial for ensuring the inclusiveness of representative populations, identifying at-risk groups, and addressing healthcare disparities. Drawing on both research experiences and the existing literature, this article provides recommendations for researchers aiming to undertake efficient and impactful projects involving invasive human samples. The suggested strategies include: (1) establishing productive collaborations with clinicians; (2) optimizing sample quality through meticulous collection and handling procedures; and (3) strategically implementing a retrospective model to capitalize on existing invasive sample repositories. When established, cooperative work between clinical health care workers and biological anthropologists can yield insights into human biology that have the potential to improve human health and wellbeing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dynamic consent has the potential to address many of the issues facing traditional paper-based or electronic consent, including enrolling informed and engaged participants in the decision-making process. The Australians Together Health Initiative (ATHENA) program aims to connect participants across Queensland, Australia, with new research opportunities. At its core is dynamic consent, an interactive and participant-centric digital platform that enables users to view ongoing research activities, update consent preferences, and have ongoing engagement with researchers. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to describe the development of the ATHENA dynamic consent platform within the framework of the ATHENA program, including how the platform was designed, its utilization by participants, and the insights gained. METHODS One-on-one interviews were undertaken with consumers, followed by a workshop with health care staff to gain insights into the dynamic consent concept. Five problem statements were developed, and solutions were posed, from which a dynamic consent platform was constructed, tested, and used for implementation in a clinical trial. Potential users were randomly recruited from a pre-existing pool of 615 participants in the ATHENA program. Feedback on user platform experience was gained from a survey hosted on the platform. RESULTS In the 13 consumer interviews undertaken, participants were positive about dynamic consent, valuing privacy, ease of use, and adequate communication. Motivators for registration were feedback on data usage and its broader community benefits. Problem statements were security, trust and governance, ease of use, communication, control, and need for a scalable platform. Using the newly constructed dynamic consent platform, 99 potential participants were selected, of whom 67 (68%) were successfully recontacted. Of these, 59 (88%) agreed to be sent the platform, 44 (74%) logged on (indicating use), and 22 (57%) registered for the clinical trial. Survey feedback was favorable, with an average positive rating of 78% across all questions, reflecting satisfaction with the clarity, brevity, and flexibility of the platform. Barriers to implementation included technological and health literacy. CONCLUSIONS This study describes the successful development and testing of a dynamic consent platform that was well-accepted, with users recognizing its advantages over traditional methods of consent regarding flexibility, ease of communication, and participant satisfaction. This information may be useful to other researchers who plan to use dynamic consent in health care research.

Abstract
Biobanks are driving motors of precision and personalized medicine by providing high-quality biological material/data through the standardization and harmonization of their collection, preservation, and distribution. UPO Biobank was established in 2020 as an institutional, disease, and population biobank within the University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO) for the promotion and support of high-quality, multidisciplinary studies. UPO Biobank collaborates with UPO researchers, sustaining academic translational research, and supports the Novara Cohort Study, a longitudinal cohort study involving the population in the Novara area that will collect data and biological specimens that will be available for epidemiological, public health, and biological studies on aging. UPO Biobank has been developed by implementing the quality standards for the field and the ethical and legal issues and normative about privacy protection, data collection, and sharing. As a member of the "Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure" (BBMRI) network, UPO Biobank aims to expand its activity worldwide and launch cooperation with new national and international partners and researchers. The objective of this manuscript is to report an institutional and operational experience through the description of the technical and procedural solutions and ethical and scientific implications associated with the establishment of this university research biobank.

Abstract
Biobanking is an actively developing scientific area that provides tools for conducting biomedical research, increasing the reliability and reproducibility of their results. In endocrinology, more and more attention is paid to the study of molecular and genetic markers of diseases for the selection of new points of influence in treatment, the development of targeted therapy and a strategy for personalized prevention. This approach is designed to solve the problems of endocrine disorders, their complications, causing significant damage to the individual and he population health, and reduce the financial burden of chronic endocrine disorders. To increase the reliability and reproducibility of research results, requirements for working with biological material should be strictly complied. The use of biobanking will increase the validity of data obtained in clinical trials in endocrinology. There are successful examples of Russian and foreign studies using the capabilities of biobanks aimed at studying diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, adenomas and other endocrine disorders. The article discusses the prospects for partnership with biobanks in the framework of endocrinology research. The purpose of this review is to analyze the literature to systematize knowledge for application of biobanking in biomedical research in the field of endocrinology.

Abstract
When we think of medical research, one intuitively associates it with the analysis of study data collected for a specific research question or with the secondary use of patient data from routine care. However, these are not the only sources for answering scientific questions. Especially for translational research, tissue and liquid samples such as blood, DNA or other body fluids provide essential insights into disease pathogenesis, development of new therapies and treatment decisions. Access to these biomedical materials is provided by so-called biobanks. By collecting, characterizing, documenting and, if necessary, processing human biospecimens in accordance with high quality standards, they can support research of the causes of diseases, early diagnosis and the targeted treatment of diseases, or make a significant contribution to the investigation of common diseases.

Abstract
This paper argues that as we move to redefine global bioethics, there is a need to be attentive to the ethical issues associated with the environmental sustainability of data and digital infrastructures in global health systems. We show that these infrastructures have thus far featured little in environmental impact discussions in the context of health, and we use a case study approach of biobanking to illustrate this. We argue that this missing discussion is problematic because biobanks have environmental impacts associated with data and digital infrastructures. We consider several ethical questions to consider these impacts: what ethical work does the concept of environmental sustainability add to the debate; how should this concept be prioritised in decision-making; and who should be responsible for doing so? We call on global bioethics to play a role in advancing this dialogue and addressing these questions.
