Abstract
INTRODUCTION Haemodialysis (HD) patients usually engage in a low level of physical activities, which could impact the prognosis and mortality of this group. Fitness Qigong Baduanjin, a physical exercise from traditional Chinese Medicine, is known to have benefit in chronic heart failure patients and peritoneal dialysis patients. However, researches about Baduanjin in HD patients are currently limited. So, the aim of the study is to investigate the current exercise intensity of HD patients and its influencing factors, and to explore the effects of Baduanjin on HD patients. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This prospective, non-blinded, randomised controlled trial will enrol patients with end-stage kidney disease who were stable on HD for more than 3 months. All eligible participants will be randomly divided into the intervention group undergoing Baduanjin and the control group without Baduanjin in a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group is required to perform Baduanjin two times per day, starting 30 min after breakfast and dinner, 45 min per session for a total of a 6 month, starting from 10 June 2024. Information such as laboratory biochemical examination indicators, radiological examination results and related scales and questionnaires will be collected at baseline, 1 month follow-up, 3 month follow-up and 6 month follow-up. All statistical tests are conducted through the two-tailed test, and a p-value≤0.05 will be considered statistically significant for the difference being tested. The description of quantitative indicators will be used in calculating the number of cases, mean, SD, median and IQR method. The classification indicators will be used to describe the number of cases and percentages (frequency and frequency rate). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (V20230521). The results will be reported in a peer-reviewed journal and a relevant academic conference. TRAIL REGISTRATION ChiCTR2300074659.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Frailty is one of the most common comorbidities in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). Physical, psychological and social frailty could be improved by exercise intervention. Baduanjin, also known as Eight-section Brocades, is a type of traditional Chinese medicine exercise characterised by the interplay between physical postures and movements, breathing and mind. It can help frail patients strengthen their upper and lower body muscles, improve their mood, quality of life and frailty. However, the effectiveness of Baduanjin on frail KTRs remains unknown. Therefore, we will conduct a randomised controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the effectiveness of Baduanjin on frail KTRs. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This protocol describes an assessor and analyst blinded, parallel RCT for frail KTRs comparing Baduanjin group (n=72) with care-as-usual group (n=72). The primary outcomes are frailty assessed by Frailty Phenotype scale and Tilburg Frailty Indicator scale, and muscle strength assessed by a grip strength metre. The secondary outcomes are quality of life assessed by Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (MOS SF-36) and depression assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. All these data will be collected at the baseline, after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, respectively. Two-way mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used to test the effectiveness of Baduanjin exercise. Qualitative interviews with participants in the intervention group will also be performed after 6 months. Themes will be extracted from interview transcripts using NVivo software. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The Ethics Committees of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (2022BZYLL1018) and China-Japan Friendship Hospital (2022-KY-250) had approved the study. The organ donors were all from China-Japan Friendship Hospital. They provided informed consent and they were not executed prisoners. We have provided BMJ Open with documentation from the hospital that indicates that the organs will be harvested ethically. The findings of this study will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, media reports and briefings. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ChiCTR2100041730.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Around the world, college students physical and mental health is deteriorating. Finding practical ways to enhance college students health is crucial. One of the traditional Chinese Qigong exercises is Baduanjin, which is possibly one of the most efficient workout techniques out there. However, it is unknown how Baduanjin practice may affect college students health. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Qigong Baduanjin on the physical and mental health of female college freshmen. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 78 female college students were recruited and randomly divided into Baduanjin group or control group. Participants in the control group were told to keep their original habits of life and exercise. The Baduanjin exercise group received 12 weeks of Baduanjin exercise, 3 days a week and 1 hour a day. After the 12 week randomized controlled trial, the physical and mental health indexes of female students in Baduanjin group and control group were evaluated, including physical shape, physical function, physical fitness and scl-90 self-assessment scale. RESULTS Compared with the control group, at the end of the 12 week intervention, the weight, body mass index, diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure, somatization score, obsessive-compulsive disorder score, interpersonal sensitivity score, depression score, anxiety score and phobic anxiety score of Baduanjin group decreased significantly. Compared with the control group, the vital capacity, vital capacity index, Stand test, Genchi test, Stand on 1 leg with closed eyes, standing bends and squats of the Baduanjin group have been significantly improved. CONCLUSION Compared with usual activities, Qigong Baduanjin exercise has advantages in improving female college students body shape (weight and body mass index), cardiovascular and respiratory lung function, flexibility, balance ability, muscle endurance and mental health.

Abstract
Hip fractures (VOHF) are a type of bone fracture that occurs in the hip bone, typically affecting older adults. Recovery from hip fractures in older adults can be challenging due to factors such as decreased mobility, weakened bones, and other health issues. This paper intends to determine the effect of mini-nutrition nursing plus Baduanjin rehabilitation exercise on postoperative rehabilitation of elderly patients with vertebral or hip fractures (VOHF). 106 senile VOHF patients were chosen for the study between May 2020 and May 2022. The research group (RG) consisted of 60 patients who received mini-nutrition nursing + Baduanjin rehabilitation exercise, while the control group (CG) had 46 patients who received mini-nutrition nursing + routine rehabilitation training. The study compared the fracture healing effect, MAMC, CC, and MNA-SF scores. The rehabilitation status of patients was evaluated using FMA, BI, BBS, and VAS. Adverse reactions during hospitalization and SF-36 scores were also recorded. Better fracture healing efficacy and higher MAMC, CC, and MNA-SF scores were determined in RG versus CG (P < 0.05). Elevated FMA, BI and BBS scores were observed in both groups after rehabilitation training, with more evident elevations in RG; while the VAS score reduced markedly and was lower in RG compared with CG (P < 0.05). In addition, RG was observed with fewer adverse reactions and higher SF-36 scores (P < 0.05). Mini-nutrition nursing + Baduanjin rehabilitation exercise can effectively accelerate the postoperative rehabilitation of elderly patients with VOHF, improve mobility, and enhance their quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with an insidious onset, usually characterized by memory impairment, visual-spatial skill impairment, executive dysfunction and personality behavioral changes. Studies have confirmed that vascular dysfunction may precede AD pathological changes and can present as vascular malformations, atherosclerosis, and impaired self-regulation, and can affect oxidative stress and amyloidosis. Therefore, it is important to improve or prevent vascular dysfunction in AD patients. Regular exercise can effectively inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species during the occurrence of AD and can improve the reduction of cerebral blood flow due to AD. Previous studies have shown that exercise can achieve superior clinical results in improving vascular function in AD patients. Therefore, we hypothesize that traditional Chinese exercises (TCEs) may have a good clinical effect in improving vascular function in patients with AD. METHODS We will search "PubMed," "the Cochrane Library," "Embase," "Web of Science," "CINAHL," "ProQuest Dissertations and Theses," and "ProQuest-Health & Medical Collection," "CNKI," "SinoMed," "VIP," and "Wanfang Data" to find randomized controlled trials of the effects of TCEs on AD vascular function from the creation of the database to the present, including at least 1 indicator in carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), middle cerebral artery mean flow velocity (MFV), blood indicators [Heme Oxidase-1 (HO-1), angiopoietin I (Ang I), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9)], and arterial stiffness [(Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), pulse wave velocity (PWV)]. For the included literature, Excel 2019 will be used for data extraction and collection. For the indicators that can be netted for network meta-analysis, Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking for each exercise modality will be calculated with the help of Stata 16.0 and rank, where the higher the SUCRA score, the higher the ranking. For the indicators that cannot be netted, Review Manager 5.4 will be used for meta-analysis will be performed to evaluate the improvement effect of TCEs on AD patients. RESULTS This meta-analysis will further determine the efficacy and safety of TCEs on vascular function in AD patients. CONCLUSION In this study, randomized controlled trials of the effects of TCEs on vascular function in AD patients will be selected to provide evidence-based medical evidence for promoting the application of TCEs by observing the order of advantages and disadvantages of various exercise modalities through network meta-analysis.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for diagnosing sarcopenia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and efficacy of Baduanjin exercise combined with nutritional support on MHD patients with sarcopenia. Methods A total of 220 patients undergoing MHD in MHD centers were selected, among which 84 had occurred with sarcopenia confirmed by measurements from the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. Data were collected for analyzing the influencing factors that lead to the onset of sarcopenia in MHD patients with the use of one-way analysis of variance and multivariate logistic regression. The role of NLR in the diagnosis of sarcopenia was explored, and its correlation with relevant diagnostic measurement performance such as grip strength, gait speed and skeletal muscle mass index was analyzed. In the end, some 74 patients with sarcopenia that qualify for further intervention and observation standards were divided into observation group (Baduanjin exercise plus nutritional support) and control group (nutritional support only), which were both intervened for 12 weeks. A total of 68 patients finished all interventions, with 33 patients in the observation group and 35 in the control group. The grip strength, gait speed, skeletal muscle mass index as well as the NLR were compared between the two groups. Results With the employment of multivariate logistic regression analysis, it was found that age, hemodialysis duration and NLR were risk factors for the onset of sarcopenia in MHD patients (P < 0.05). The area under ROC curve for NLR of MHD patients with sarcopenia was 0.695, and NLR was negatively correlated with a biochemical indicator-human blood albumin (P < 0.05). NLR was also negatively correlated with patient's grip strength, gait speed and skeletal muscle mass index, with the same correlation found in sarcopenia patients (all P < 0.05). After intervention, patient's grip strength and gait speed were both higher, and the NLR lower in the observation group than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The occurrence of sarcopenia in MHD patients is associated with patient's age, hemodialysis duration and NLR. Therefore, it has been concluded that NLR has certain values in the diagnosis of sarcopenia in patients undergoing MHD. Moreover, the muscular strength can be enhanced and inflammation decreased in sarcopenia patients through nutritional support and physical exercise, i.e., Bajinduan exercise.

Abstract
Purpose Baduanjin (BDJ) exercise is a traditional exercise that combines breathing, body movement, meditation and awareness to help delay the onset and progression of senile degenerative musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoporosis (OP). The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy of BDJ exercise, and preliminarily infer its effective mechanism in the treatment of OP. Methods We identified relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) through eight databases, and compared BDJ exercise with the control groups (including blank control and conventional treatment intervention). The main outcome measure was bone mineral density (BMD), the additional outcome measures were visual analogue scale (VAS), Berg balance scale (BBS), serum Calcium (Ca), serum Phosphorus (P), serum Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and serum bone gla protein (BGP). Meta-analysis and trial sequence analysis (TSA) were performed using RevMan 5.4, Stata 16.0, and TSA 0.9. Results In total, 13 RCTs involving 919 patients were included in the analysis. For postmenopausal osteoporosis, BDJ exercise alone and BDJ exercise combined with conventional treatment can improve the BMD of lumbar spine. BDJ exercise alone can influence serum Ca and ALP. BDJ exercise combined with conventional treatment can improve balance (BBS) and influence serum BGP. For senile osteoporosis, BDJ exercise alone and BDJ exercise combined with conventional treatment can improve balance (BBS). BDJ exercise combined with conventional treatment can improve the BMD of hip and pain relieve (VAS). For primary osteoporosis, BDJ exercise combined with conventional treatment can improve the BMD of lumbar spine and femoral neck. Conclusion Baduanjin exercise may be beneficial to improve BMD, relieve pain, improve balance ability, influence serum BGP and serum ALP in patients with OP, but differences occur due to various types of OP. Due to the low quality of research on the efficacy and mechanism of BDJ exercise in the treatment of OP, high-quality evidence-based research is still needed to provide reliable supporting evidence.
