Abstract
The heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) gene family plays a crucial role in the response of organisms to environmental stress. However, it has not been systematically characterized in shrimp. In this study, we identified 25 PcHsp70 genes in the Penaeus chinensis genome. The encoded proteins were categorized into six subgroups based on phylogenetic relationships. Tandem duplication was the main driver of amplification in the PcHsp70 family, and the genes have experienced strong purifying selection during evolution. Transcriptome data analysis revealed that the 25 PcHsp70 members have different expression patterns in shrimp under conditions of low temperature, low salinity, and white spot syndrome virus infection. Among them, PcHsp70.11 was significantly induced under all three stress conditions, suggesting that this gene plays an important role in response to environmental stress in P. chinensis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically analyze the Hsp70 gene family in shrimp. The results provide important information on shrimp Hsp70s, contributing to a better understanding of the role of these genes in environmental stress and providing a basis for further functional studies.

Abstract
Carp is a key aquaculture species worldwide. The intensification of carp farming, aimed at meeting the high demand for protein sources for human consumption, has resulted in adverse effects such as poor water quality, increased stress, and disease outbreaks. While antibiotics have been utilized to mitigate these issues, their use poses risks to both public health and the environment. As a result, alternative and more sustainable practices have been adopted to manage the health of farmed carp, including the use of probiotics, prebiotics, phytobiotics, and vaccines to prevent disease outbreaks. Phytobiotics, being both cost-effective and abundant, have gained widespread acceptance. They offer various benefits in carp farming, such as improved growth performance, enhanced immune system, increased antioxidant capacity, stress alleviation from abiotic factors, and enhanced disease resistance. Currently, a focal point of research involves employing molecular approaches to assess the impacts of phytobiotics in aquatic animals. Gene expression, the process by which genetic information encoded is translated into function, along with transcription profiling, serves as a crucial tool for detecting changes in gene expression within cells. These changes provide valuable insights into the growth rate, immune system, and flesh quality of aquatic animals. This review delves into the positive impacts of phytobiotics on immune responses, growth, antioxidant capabilities, and flesh quality, all discerned through gene expression changes in carp species. Furthermore, this paper explores existing research gaps and outlines future prospects for the utilization of phytobiotics in aquaculture.

Abstract
Scalloped spiny lobster (Panulirus homarus) aquaculture is the preferred strategy to resolve the conflict between supply and demand for lobster. Environmental conditions, such as salinity, are key to the success of lobster aquaculture. However, physiological responses of P. homarus to salinity stress have not been well studied. This study investigated the gill histology, osmoregulation and gill transcriptome of the early juvenile P. homarus (weight 19.04 ± 3.95 g) cultured at salinity 28 (control), 18, and 38 for 6 weeks. The results showed that the gill filaments of P. homarus exposed to low salinity showed severe separation of the cuticle and epithelial cells due to water absorption and swelling, as well as the dissolution and thinning of the cuticle and the rupture of the septum that separates the afferent and efferent channels. The serum osmolarity of P. homarus varied proportionately with external medium salinity and remained consistently above ambient osmolarity. The serum Na+, Cl-, K+, and Mg2+ concentrations P. homarus exhibited a pattern similar to that of serum osmolality, while the concentration of Ca2+ remained unaffected at salinity 18 but significantly increased at salinity 38. Gill Na+/K+-ATPase activity of P. homarus increased (p < 0.05) under the both salinity stress. Salinity 18 significantly increased Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) and Glutamicpyruvic transaminase (GPT) activity in the hepatopancreas of P. homarus (p < 0.05). According to transcriptome analysis, versus control group (salinity 28), 929 and 1095 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained in the gills of P. homarus at salinity 18 and 38, respectively, with these DEGs were mainly involved in energy metabolism, transmembrane transport and oxidative stress and substance metabolism. In addition, the expression patterns of 8 key DEGs mainly related to amino acid metabolism, transmembrane transport and oxidative stress were verified by quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR). The present study suggests that salinity 18 has a greater impact on P. homarus than salinity 38, and P. homarus demonstrates effective osmoregulation and handle with salinity fluctuations (18 to 38) through physiological and functional adaptations. This study provides an improved understanding of the physiological response strategies of P. homarus facing salinity stress, which is crucial for optimizing aquaculture practices for this species.

Abstract
Salinity stress can trigger a series of physiological changes. However, the mechanism underlying the response to acute salinity stress in Macrobrachium rosenbergii remains poorly understood. In this study, osmoregulation, physiological metabolism, antioxidant capacity, and apoptosis were examined over 96 h of acute salinity stress. Hemolymph osmolality increased with increasing salinity. After 48 h of salinity exposure, the glucose, triglycerides, total protein, and total cholesterol contents in two salinity stress groups (13 and 26‱ salinity) were significantly lower than those in the 0‱ salinity group. The highest levels of these parameters were detected at 6 h; however, superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were the lowest at 96 h in the 13‱ salinity group. The activity of immunity-related enzyme alkaline phosphatase (AKP) showed a decreasing trend with increasing salinity and remained at a low level in the 26‱ salinity group throughout the experiment. No significant differences were observed in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), or lysozyme (LZM) among the three treatments at 96 h. After 96 h of salinity treatments, the gill filament diameter significantly decreased, and a more pronounced terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL)-positive signal was detected in the 13‱ and 26‱ groups compared to that in the 0‱ group. Expression levels of apoptosis-related genes, including Cysteine-aspartic acid protease 3 (Caspase 3), Cysteine-aspartic acid protease 8 (Caspase 8), Cytochrome c (Cyt-c), tumor suppressor gene (P53), Nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), and B cell lymphoma 2 ovarian killer (Bok) were significantly higher in the 26‱ salinity group than in the other groups at 24 h, but lower than those in the 0‱ salinity group at 96 h. Cyt-c and P53 levels exhibited a significantly positive relationship with MDA, AST, and LZM activity during salinity stress. In the 13‱ salinity group, Bok expression was significantly correlated with SOD, T-AOC, AKP, acid phosphatase, and LZM activity, whereas in the 26‱ group, the AST content was positively correlated with Caspase 8, Cyt-c, and P53 expression. A significant negative relationship was observed between Caspase 3 expression and catalase (CAT) activity. These findings provide insight into the mechanisms underlying the response to acute salinity stress and will contribute to improving M. rosenbergii aquaculture and management practices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oriental river prawn (Macrobrachium nipponense) is one of the most dominant species in shrimp farming in China, which is a rich source of protein and contributes to a significant impact on the quality of human life. Thus, more complete and accurate annotation of gene models are important for the breeding research of oriental river prawn. RESULTS A full-length transcriptome of oriental river prawn muscle was obtained using the PacBio Sequel platform. Then, 37.99 Gb of subreads were sequenced, including 584,498 circular consensus sequences, among which 512,216 were full length non-chimeric sequences. After Illumina-based correction of long PacBio reads, 6,599 error-corrected isoforms were identified. Transcriptome structural analysis revealed 2,263 and 2,555 alternative splicing (AS) events and alternative polyadenylation (APA) sites, respectively. In total, 620 novel genes (NGs), 197 putative transcription factors (TFs), and 291 novel long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were identified. CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study offers novel insights into the transcriptome complexity and diversity of this prawn species, and provides valuable information for understanding the genomic structure and improving the draft genome annotation of oriental river prawn.
