Abstract
Bacteriocins are highly diverse, abundant, and heterogeneous antimicrobial peptides that are ribosomally synthesized by bacteria and archaea. Since their discovery about a century ago, there has been a growing interest in bacteriocin research and applications. This is mainly due to their high antimicrobial properties, narrow or broad spectrum of activity, specificity, low cytotoxicity, and stability. Though initially used to improve food quality and safety, bacteriocins are now globally exploited for innovative applications in human, animal, and food systems as sustainable alternatives to antibiotics. Bacteriocins have the potential to beneficially modulate microbiota, providing viable microbiome-based solutions for the treatment, management, and non-invasive bio-diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases. The use of bacteriocins holds great promise in the modulation of food microbiomes, antimicrobial food packaging, bio-sanitizers and antibiofilm, pre/post-harvest biocontrol, functional food, growth promotion, and sustainable aquaculture. This can undoubtedly improve food security, safety, and quality globally. This review highlights the current trends in bacteriocin research, especially the increasing research outputs and funding, which we believe may proportionate the soaring global interest in bacteriocins. The use of cutting-edge technologies, such as bioengineering, can further enhance the exploitation of bacteriocins for innovative applications in human, animal, and food systems.

Abstract
General plant diseases as well as soil-borne pathogens severely reduce agricultural yield. The rhizosphere (the region of the soil that includes and surrounds the roots) is an important niche for microbial diversity in particular phytobeneficial bacteria including plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) which have been used for a very long time to combat plant diseases. Pathogen control and crop productivity can both be improved through the use of PGPR several mechanisms, including iron-based nutrition, antibiotics, volatile substances, enzymes, biofilm, allelochemicals, and so on. Their modes of action and molecular mechanisms have improved our comprehension of how they are used to control crop disease. Therefore, there is a lot of literal information available regarding PGPR, but this review stands out since it starts with the fundamentals: the concept of the rhizosphere and the colonization process of the latter, particularly because it covers the most mechanisms. A broad figure is used to present the study's findings. The advantages of using PGPR as bioinoculants in sustainable agriculture are also mentioned.

Abstract
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is known for the biological control of important insect pests, but scientific advances have revealed several interesting characteristics, in addition to this classical function as a bioinsecticide. To investigate the current knowledge about these non-insecticidal activities, a systematic research on primary data in the scientific literature was conducted on alternative functions of Bt with biotechnological potential. Out of a total of 140 articles selected, 15 non-insecticidal Bt activities were found. Publications related to this topic are available since 1971, and different metadata were reported, such as biomolecules and genes involved in Bt performances in non-insecticidal bioactivities. A total of 11 Bt activities with different effect measures (response variables) were identified, with an average of 48 distinct Bt strains evaluated per activity. Approximately 81.2% of all identified experiments/tests deal with the direct effects of Bt on target cells/organisms, with 36.3% of the strains within these studies tested for antibacterial action; of all microbial targets tested, 92.8% are bacteria, which led to 75.2% of the experimental conditions for all direct activities being performed in vitro. Regarding indirect Bt activities, 67.6% of these studies reported tritrophic Bt-plant-pathogen interactions. Bioremediation also appears as a relevant Bt activity being investigated in-depth. Alternative Bt activities offer innovative ways of developing biotechnology for different areas of anthropic interest; hence, we also focus on the possibility of finding multifunctional strains of Bt, as this may be advantageous from a bioeconomic point of view. Our findings are discussed in terms of research trends, aspects, details and depth of the current knowledge on alternative non-insecticidal Bt traits. We also discuss the potential application of this science for useful technological developments, aiming at solving issues related to human health, sustainable agriculture and environmental preservation/restoration.

Abstract
Biological plant protection presents a promising and exciting alternative to chemical methods for safeguarding plants against the increasing threats posed by plant diseases. This approach revolves around the utilization of biological control agents (BCAs) to suppress the activity of significant plant pathogens. Microbial BCAs have the potential to effectively manage crop disease development by interacting with pathogens or plant hosts, thereby increasing their resistance. However, the current efficacy of biological methods remains unsatisfactory, creating new research opportunities for sustainable plant cultivation management. In this context, microbial consortia, comprising multiple microorganisms with diverse mechanisms of action, hold promise in terms of augmenting the magnitude and stability of the overall antipathogen effect. Despite scientific efforts to identify or construct microbial consortia that can aid in safeguarding vital crops, only a limited number of microbial consortia-based biocontrol formulations are currently available. Therefore, this article aims to present a complex analysis of the microbial consortia-based biocontrol status and explore potential future directions for biological plant protection research with new technological advancements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Phages play a pivotal role in the evolution of microbial populations. The interactions between phages and their hosts are complex and may vary in response to host physiology and environmental conditions. Here, we have selected the genomes of some representative Bacillus prophages and lysosomes from the NCBI database for evolutionary analysis. We explored their evolutionary relationships and analyzed the protein information encoded by hundreds of Bacillus phages. RESULTS We obtained the following conclusions: First, Bacillus phages carried some known functional gene fragments and a large number of unknown functional gene fragments, which might have an important impact on Bacillus populations, such as the formation of spores and biofilms and the transmission of virulence factors. Secondly, the Bacillus phage genome showed diversity, with a clear genome boundary between Bacillus prophages and Bacillus lytic phages. Furthermore, genetic mutations, sequence losses, duplications, and host-switching have occurred during the evolution of the Bacillus phage, resulting in low genome similarity between the Bacillus phages. Finally, the lysis module played an important influence on the process of Bacillus phage cross-species infestation. CONCLUSIONS This study systematically described their protein function, diversity, and genome evolution, and the results of this study provide a basis for evolutionary diversity, horizontal gene transfer and co-evolution with the host in Bacillus phages.

Abstract
Stevia rebaudiana is an important medicinal plant which represents the most important sugar substitute in many countries. Poor seed germination of this plant is a critical problem that affects the final yield and the availability of the products in the market. Continuous cropping without supplying soil nutrients is also a serious issue as it results in declining soil fertility. This review highlights the important use of beneficial bacteria for the enhancement of Stevia rebaudiana growth and its dynamic interactions in the phyllosphere, rhizosphere, and endosphere. Fertilizers can increase crop yield and preserve and improve soil fertility. There is a rising concern that prolonged usage of chemical fertilizers may have negative impacts on the ecosystem of the soil. On the other hand, soil health and fertility are improved by plant growth-promoting bacteria which could eventually increase plant growth and productivity. Accordingly, a biocompatible strategy involving beneficial microorganisms inoculation is applied to boost plant growth and reduce the negative effects of chemical fertilizers. Plants benefit extensively from endophytic bacteria, which promote growth and induce resistance to pathogens and stresses. Additionally, several plant growth-promoting bacteria are able to produce amino acids, polyamines, and hormones that can be used as alternatives to chemicals. Therefore, understanding the dynamic interactions between bacteria and Stevia can help make the favorable bacterial bio-formulations, use them more effectively, and apply them to Stevia to improve yield and quality.

Abstract
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a tree crop of great social and economic importance. However, the crop productivity is hindered by fast-spreading diseases, which calls for the search of new biocontrol alternatives to mitigate the impact of avocado phytopathogens. Our objectives were to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of diffusible and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by two avocado rhizobacteria (Bacillus A8a and HA) against phytopathogens Fusarium solani, Fusarium kuroshium, and Phytophthora cinnamomi, and assess their plant growth promoting effect in Arabidopsis thaliana. We found that, in vitro, VOCs emitted by both bacterial strains inhibited mycelial growth of the tested pathogens by at least 20%. Identification of bacterial VOCs by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed a predominance of ketones, alcohols and nitrogenous compounds, previously reported for their antimicrobial activity. Bacterial organic extracts obtained with ethyl acetate significantly reduced mycelial growth of F. solani, F. kuroshium, and P. cinnamomi, the highest inhibition being displayed by those from strain A8a (32, 77, and 100% inhibition, respectively). Tentative identifications carried out by liquid chromatography coupled to accurate mass spectrometry of diffusible metabolites in the bacterial extracts, evidenced the presence of some polyketides such as macrolactins and difficidin, hybrid peptides including bacillaene, and non-ribosomal peptides such as bacilysin, which have also been described in Bacillus spp. for antimicrobial activities. The plant growth regulator indole-3-acetic acid was also identified in the bacterial extracts. In vitro assays showed that VOCs from strain HA and diffusible compounds from strain A8a modified root development and increased fresh weight of A. thaliana. These compounds differentially activated several hormonal signaling pathways involved in development and defense responses in A. thaliana, such as auxin, jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA); genetic analyses suggested that developmental stimulation of the root system architecture by strain A8a was mediated by the auxin signaling pathway. Furthermore, both strains were able to enhance plant growth and decreased the symptoms of Fusarium wilt in A. thaliana when soil-inoculated. Collectively, our results evidence the potential of these two rhizobacterial strains and their metabolites as biocontrol agents of avocado pathogens and as biofertilizers.

Abstract
Although the entomopathogenic bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner are well-known bio-agents for regulating the population of leaf-eating pests of agricultural and ornamental crops, other agricultural properties of this microorganism are promising. In this work, the growth-stimulating effect of entomopathogenic strains of B. thuringiensis on Deviz pea plants was studied. The entomopathogenic strains B. thuringiensis 685, 926 and 109-C obtained from the Crimean Collection of Microorganisms of the Crimean Agricultural Research Institute, registered online (http://www.ckp-rf.ru) with number 507484, were used as research material. The morphometric parameters of pea sprouts were evaluated following standard methods. Biochemical parameters of pea sprouts were determined for 10-day-old sprouts. The amylase activity of pea sprouts was determined by photocalorimetry; total acidity was measured by titration using 0.1 n NaOH solution; total water-soluble phenolic compounds were determined by Leventhal titrimetric method. It was found that liquid spore culture of strains B. thuringiensis 685, 926 and 109-C had a stimulating effect on the length of root and stem and the weight of 10-day-old sprouts of Deviz pea variety. Treatment with a spore suspension of all tested strains B. thuringiensis led to an increase in the content of organic acids in the sprouts by an average of 12.4% compared with that of the control. Maximum stimulating effect on amylolytic activity and synthesis of phenolic compounds in Deviz pea sprouts was achieved by treating with a spore suspension of the strain B. thuringiensis 926. The amylase activity increased on average by 41.5% when compared to that of the control, while the total content of phenolic compounds in this experiment was 2.3 times higher than that of the control. Therefore, in light of the entomopathogenic properties and the obtained data on the growth-stimulating activity of the strains of B. thuringiensis, it can be concluded that these bacteria have additional potential for their use in agriculture as a bio-agent for plant protection having a complex action.

Abstract
Exposure to unfavorable conditions is becoming more frequent for plants due to climate change, posing a threat to global food security. Stressful temperature, as a major environmental factor, adversely affects plant growth and development, and consequently agricultural production. Hence, development of sustainable approaches to assist plants in dealing with environmental challenges is of great importance. Compatible plant-microbe interactions and signal molecules produced within these interactions, such as bacteriocins, could be promising approaches to managing the impacts of abiotic stresses on crops. Although the use of bacteriocins in food preservation is widespread, only a small number of studies have examined their potential in agriculture. Therefore, we studied the effect of three concentrations of Thuricin17 (Th17), a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterial signal molecule produced by Bacillus thuringiensis, on germination and vegetative growth of canola (Brassica napus L.) under stressful temperatures. Canola responded positively to treatment with the bacterial signal molecule under stressful temperatures. Treatment with 10 -9 M Th17 (Thu2) was found to significantly enhance germination rate, seed vigor index, radical and shoot length and seedling fresh weight under low temperature, and this treatment reduced germination time which would be an asset for higher latitude, short growing season climates. Likewise, Thu2 was able to alleviate the adverse effects of high temperature on germination and seed vigor. Regarding vegetative growth, interestingly, moderate high temperature with the assistance of the compound caused more growth and development than the control conditions. Conversely, low temperature negatively affected plant growth, and Th17 did not help overcome this effect. Specifically, the application of 10 -9 (Thu2) and 10 -11 M (Thu3) Th17 had a stimulatory effect on height, leaf area and biomass accumulation under above-optimal conditions, which could be attributed to modifications of below-ground structures, including root length, root surface, root volume and root diameter, as well as photosynthetic rate. However, no significant effects were observed under optimal conditions for almost all measured variables. Therefore, the signal compound tends to have a stimulatory impact at stressful temperatures but not under optimal conditions. Hence, supplementation with Th17 would have the potential as a plant growth promoter under stressed circumstances.

Abstract
Salt stress is a major threat to modern agriculture, significantly affecting plant growth and yield, and causing substantial economic losses. At this crucial time of increasing climate change conditions, soil salinity will continue to develop and become an even more serious challenge to crop agriculture. Hence, there is a pressing need for sustainable techniques in agricultural production that could meet the dual challenges of crop productivity and environmental instability. The use of biostimulants in agricultural production has greatly influenced plant health and global food production. In particular, the application of bioactive materials produced by beneficial microbes is becoming a common practice in agriculture and provides numerous benefits to plant growth and resistance to stressful conditions. In this research two biostimulants; a type of plant secondary metabolite (flavonoids) and a microbe-based material (CFS: Cell-Free Supernatant) containing active compounds secreted by a novel bacterial strain isolated from Amphecarpaea bracteata root nodules (Devosia sp - SL43), have been utilized to improve the growth and stress resistance of two major oil seed crops; canola and soybean, under optimal and salt stress conditions. Our findings suggested significant improvements in crop growth of canola and soybean following the application of both biostimulants. Under optimal growth conditions, soybean growth was significantly affected by foliar spray of flavonoids with increases in shoot fresh and dry weight, and leaf area, by 91, 99.5, and 73%, respectively. However, soybean growth was unaffected by flavonoids under salt stress. In contrast, CFS with a meaningful capacity to mitigate the negative effects of salinity stress improved soybean shoot fresh biomass, dry biomass, and leaf area by 128, 163 and 194%, respectively, under salt stress conditions. Canola was less responsive to both biostimulants, except for canola root variables which were substantially improved by flavonoid spray. Since this was the first assessment of these materials as foliar sprays, we strongly encourage further experimentation to confirm the findings reported here and to determine the full range of applicability of each of these potential technologies.

Abstract
Bacillus velezensis strain GUMT319 is a rhizobacteria biocontrol agent that can control tobacco black shank disease. We took GUMT319 as a biological fertilizer on Vitis vinifera L. The test group was treated with GUMT319 for one year and the control group had a water treatment. Yields of GUMT319-treated grape groups were significantly increased compared to the controls. The average length and width of single grape fruit, weight of 100 grape fruits, the sugar/acid ratio, and the content of vitamin C were all increased in the GUMT319-treated grape group. The pH of the soil was higher and the contents of alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen and available potassium were significantly lower in the GUMT319-treated groups than the controls. The soil microbial community composition was evaluated by 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing, and the Shannon index and Simpson index all showed that soil microbes were more abundant in the GUMT319-treated group. These results indicate that GUMT319 is not only a biocontrol agent, but also a plant growth-promoting rihizobacteria. It can increase the yield of grape by altering the physical and chemical properties and the microbial community composition of the soil.

Abstract
Microorganisms are an important component of the ecosystem and have an enormous impact on human lives. Moreover, microorganisms are considered to have desirable effects on other co-existing species in a variety of habitats, such as agriculture and industries. In this way, they also have enormous environmental applications. Hence, collections of microorganisms with specific traits are a crucial step in developing new technologies to harness the microbial potential. Microbial culture collections (MCCs) are a repository for the preservation of a large variety of microbial species distributed throughout the world. In this context, culture collections (CCs) and microbial biological resource centres (mBRCs) are vital for the safeguarding and circulation of biological resources, as well as for the progress of the life sciences. Ex situ conservation of microorganisms tagged with specific traits in the collections is the crucial step in developing new technologies to harness their potential. Type strains are mainly used in taxonomic study, whereas reference strains are used for agricultural, biotechnological, pharmaceutical research and commercial work. Despite the tremendous potential in microbiological research, little effort has been made in the true sense to harness the potential of conserved microorganisms. This review highlights (1) the importance of available global microbial collections for man and (2) the use of these resources in different research and applications in agriculture, biotechnology, and industry. In addition, an extensive literature survey was carried out on preserved microorganisms from different collection centres using the Web of Science (WoS) and SCOPUS. This review also emphasizes knowledge gaps and future perspectives. Finally, this study provides a critical analysis of the current and future roles of microorganisms available in culture collections for different sustainable agricultural and industrial applications. This work highlights target-specific potential microbial strains that have multiple important metabolic and genetic traits for future research and use.

Abstract
The consistent use of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals in traditional agriculture has not only compromised the fragile agroecosystems but has also adversely affected human, aquatic, and terrestrial life. The use of phytostimulants is an alternative eco-friendly approach that eliminates ecosystem disruption while maintaining agricultural productivity. Phytostimulants include living entities and materials, such as microorganisms and nanomaterials, which when applied to plants or to the rhizosphere, stimulate plant growth and induce tolerance to plants against biotic and abiotic stresses. In this review, we focus on plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), beneficial fungi, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and plant growth-promoting fungi (PGPF), actinomycetes, cyanobacteria, azolla, and lichens, and their potential benefits in the crop improvement, and mitigation of abiotic and biotic stresses either alone or in combination. PGPR, AMF, and PGPF are plant beneficial microbes that can release phytohormones, such as indole acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), and cytokinins, promoting plant growth and improving soil health, and in addition, they also produce many secondary metabolites, antibiotics, and antioxidant compounds and help to combat biotic and abiotic stresses. Their ability to act as phytostimulator and a supplement of inorganic fertilizers is considered promising in practicing sustainable agriculture and organic farming. Glomalin is a proteinaceous product, produced by AMF, involved in soil aggregation and elevation of soil water holding capacity under stressed and unstressed conditions. The negative effects of continuous cropping can be mitigated by AMF biofertilization. The synergistic effects of PGPR and PGPF may be more effective. The mechanisms of control exercised by PGPF either direct or indirect to suppress plant diseases viz. by competing for space and nutrients, mycoparasitism, antibiosis, mycovirus-mediated cross-protection, and induced systemic resistance (ISR) have been discussed. The emerging role of cyanobacterial metabolites and the implication of nanofertilizers have been highlighted in sustainable agriculture.

Abstract
Climate change, environmental pollution and associated abiotic stresses are beginning to meaningfully affect agricultural production worldwide. Salt stress is, however, one of the most important threats that significantly impairs plant growth and development. Plants in their early growth stages such as seed germination, seed emergence and early seedling growth are very sensitive to salt stress. Among the range of sustainable techniques adopted to improve seed germination and early plant growth is seed priming; however, with the use of ecofriendly substances, this is one of the most effective and economically viable techniques to improve seed tolerance against such environmental stresses. For instance, priming with appropriate non-synthetic compounds including microbial biostimulants are prominent ways to sustainably address these challenges. Therefore, in this research, by using the "priming technique", two biostimulants were tested for their potential as sustainable approaches to improve canola and soybean seed germination under salt stress and optimal growth conditions. Canola and soybean seeds were primed with flavonoids extracted from citrus fruits (flavopriming) and cell-free supernatant (CFS; produced by a novel strain of Devosia sp.-SL43), alone and in combination, and exposed to low-higher levels of salt stress and ideal growth conditions. Both biostimulants showed promising effects by significantly improving seed germination of soybean and canola under both ideal and stressful conditions. However, increases in seed germination were greater under salinity stress as flavonoids and CFS with stress amelioration effects showed substantial and statistically significant improvements in seed germination under varying levels of salt stress. In addition, combinations (mixtures) of both biostimulants were tested to determine if their effects might be more additive or multiplicative than the individual applications. However, results suggested incompatibility of both biostimulants as none of the combinations showed better results than that of the individual applications of either flavonoids or CFS. Conceivably, the use of flavonoids and this novel Devosia sp. CFS could be significant plant growth enhancers, perhaps much better than the few other biostimulants and bacterial-based compounds currently in use.

Abstract
Thurincin H, a bacteriocin produced by Bacillus thuringiensis, exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. While much is known about its expression and antimicrobial spectrum, its hemolytic property has yet to be established. In this study, thurincin H was produced in a plasmid-free acrystalliferous strain of B. thuringiensis (Bt Cry-B) that naturally lacked antimicrobial and hemolytic activities. When grown in Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), the bacteriocin's maximal production in Bt Cry-B harboring the thurincin H genetic cluster (Bt Cry-B/pThur) was observed at 24 h. Thurincin H was purified as a sole peptide of ~5 kDa using three purification steps, i.e., salt precipitation, ultrafiltration, and gel filtration chromatography. The bacteriocin showed inhibitory activity against B. cereus (5631 U), Bt Cry-B (8827 U), E. faecium wild type (11,197 U), and E. faecium ATCC 19,434 (6950 U), but not against Bt Cry-B/pThurH and Bt Cry-B/pThurHΔThnA. In addition, a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 5.0 μg/mL against B. cereus 183 was observed. In silico predictions suggested that thuricin H lacks hemolytic activity, which was validated in vitro using 4 × the MIC, i.e., 20 μg/ml. Our data lay a foundation for the potential safe use of thurincin H as an antibacterial peptide for medical use, in food products, and for expression in probiotic bacteria.

Abstract
AIMS Phytopathogens are a global threat to the world's food supply. Use of broad-spectrum bactericides and antibiotics to limit or eliminate bacterial infections is becoming less effective as levels of resistance increase, while concurrently becoming less desirable from an ecological perspective due to their collateral damage to beneficial members of plant and soil microbiomes. Bacteria produce numerous antimicrobials in addition to antibiotics, such as bacteriocins with their relatively narrow activity spectra, and inhibitory metabolic by-products, such as organic acids. There is interest in developing these naturally occurring antimicrobials for use as alternatives or supplements to antibiotics. METHODS AND RESULTS In this study, we investigate the inhibitory potential of 217 plant associated bacterial isolates from 44 species including plant pathogens, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, and plant commensals. Over half of the isolates were found to produce antimicrobial substances, of which 68% were active against phytopathogens. Even more intriguing, 98% of phytopathogenic strains were sensitive to the compounds produced specifically by plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. CONCLUSION These data argue that plant-associated bacteria produce a broad range of antimicrobial substances, and that the substances produced preferentially target phytopathogenic bacteria. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF STUDY There is a need for novel antimicrobials for use in agriculture. The methods presented here reveal the potential for simple phenotypic screening methods to provide a broad range of potential drug candidates.

Abstract
Ethnic fermented foods are known for their unique aroma, flavour, taste, texture and other sensory properties preferred by every ethnic community in this world culturally as parts of their eatables. Some beneficial microorganisms associated with fermented foods have several functional properties and health-promoting benefits. Bacteriocins are the secondary metabolites produced by the microorganisms mostly lactic acid bacteria present in the fermented foods which can act as lantibiotics against the pathogen bacteria. Several studies have been conducted regarding the isolation and characterization of potent strains as well as their association with different types of bacteriocins. Collective information regarding the gene organizations responsible for the potent effect of bacteriocins as lantibiotics, mode of action on pathogen bacterial cells is not yet available. This review focuses on the gene organizations, pathways include for bacteriocin and their mode of action for various classes of bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria in some ethnic fermented foods.

Abstract
Plant diseases and pests are risk factors that threaten global food security. Excessive chemical pesticide applications are commonly used to reduce the effects of plant diseases caused by bacterial and fungal pathogens. A major concern, as we strive toward more sustainable agriculture, is to increase crop yields for the increasing population. Microbial biological control agents (MBCAs) have proved their efficacy to be a green strategy to manage plant diseases, stimulate plant growth and performance, and increase yield. Besides their role in growth enhancement, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria/fungi (PGPR/PGPF) could suppress plant diseases by producing inhibitory chemicals and inducing immune responses in plants against phytopathogens. As biofertilizers and biopesticides, PGPR and PGPF are considered as feasible, attractive economic approach for sustainable agriculture; thus, resulting in a "win-win" situation. Several PGPR and PGPF strains have been identified as effective BCAs under environmentally controlled conditions. In general, any MBCA must overcome certain challenges before it can be registered or widely utilized to control diseases/pests. Successful MBCAs offer a practical solution to improve greenhouse crop performance with reduced fertilizer inputs and chemical pesticide applications. This current review aims to fill the gap in the current knowledge of plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPM), provide attention about the scientific basis for policy development, and recommend further research related to the applications of PGPM used for commercial purposes.

Abstract
The genus Caulobacter encompasses several strains that can enhance the biomass of several plant species. However, for many plant-growth-promoting (PGP) Caulobacter strains, their genomic factors that facilitate positive interactions with their plant hosts remain unknown. Given that leveraging comparative genomics analyses can establish a framework to understand these plant-bacteria interactions, the genomes of three PGP Caulobacter strains that were isolated from distinct geographical locations and have been shown to associate with distinct plant species were compared. Using previously reported analyses to contextualize the genomic patterns among PGP Caulobacter strains, each of these PGP Caulobacter strains (CBR1, RHG1, and RHGG3) was observed harboring similar metabolic potentials and previously reported PGP genetic factors in their genomes. Together, these findings reinforce previous analyses that identify the cyo operon as a general PGP factor for Caulobacter strains while establishing a framework for further investigations that seek to uncover the mechanistic details that govern interactions between Caulobacter strains and diverse plant species.

Abstract
The use of microbial derived compounds is a technological approach currently gaining popularity among researchers, with hopes of complementing, supplementing and addressing key issues associated with use of microbial cells for enhancing plant growth. The new technology is a promising approach to mitigating effects of salinity stress in agricultural crops, given that these compounds could be less prone to effects of salt stress, are required in small quantities and are easier to store and handle than microbial cells. Microorganism derived compounds such as thuricin17, lipochitooligosaccharides, phytohormones and volatile organic compounds have been reported to mitigate the effects of salt stress in agricultural crops such as soybean and wheat. This mini-review compiles current knowledge regarding the use of microbe derived compounds in mitigating salinity stress in crops, the mechanisms they employ as well as future prospects.

Abstract
Growing environmental concerns are potentially narrowing global yield capacity of agricultural systems. Climate change is the most significant problem the world is currently facing. To meet global food demand, food production must be doubled by 2050; over exploitation of arable lands using unsustainable techniques might resolve food demand issues, but they have negative environmental effects. Current crop production systems are a major reason for changing global climate through diminishing biodiversity, physical and chemical soil degradation, and water pollution. The over application of fertilizers and pesticides contribute to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and toxic soil depositions. At this crucial time, there is a pressing need to transition to more sustainable crop production practices, ones that concentrate more on promoting sustainable mechanisms, which enable crops to grow well in resource limited and environmentally challenging environments, and also develop crops with greater resource use efficiency that have optimum sustainable yields across a wider array of environmental conditions. The phytomicrobiome is considered as one of the best strategies; a better alternative for sustainable agriculture, and a viable solution to meet the twin challenges of global food security and environmental stability. Use of the phytomicrobiome, due to its sustainable and environmentally friendly mechanisms of plant growth promotion, is becoming more widespread in the agricultural industry. Therefore, in this review, we emphasize the contribution of beneficial phytomicrobiome members, particularly plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), as a strategy to sustainable improvement of plant growth and production in the face of climate change. Also, the roles of soil dwelling microbes in stress amelioration, nutrient supply (nitrogen fixation, phosphorus solubilization), and phytohormone production along with the factors that could potentially affect their efficiency have been discussed extensively. Lastly, limitations to expansion and use of biobased techniques, for instance, the perspective of crop producers, indigenous microbial competition and regulatory approval are discussed. This review largely focusses on the importance and need of sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches such as biobased/PGPR-based techniques in our agricultural systems, especially in the context of current climate change conditions, which are almost certain to worsen in near future.

Abstract
The use of bacteriocins holds great promise in different areas such as health, food, nutrition, veterinary, nanotechnology, among others. Many research groups worldwide continue to advance the knowledge to unravel a novel range of therapeutic agents and food preservatives. This review addresses the advances of bacteriocins and their producer organisms as biocontrol agents for applications in the medical industry and agriculture. Furthermore, the bacteriocin mechanism of action and structural characteristics will be reviewed. Finally, the potential role of bacteriocins to modulate the signaling in host-associated microbial communities will be discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Currently, antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria are emerging as an important health problem worldwide. The search for new compounds with antibiotic characteristics is the most promising alternative. Bacteriocins are natural compounds that are inhibitory against pathogens, and Bacillus species are the major producers of these compounds, which have shown antimicrobial activity against clinically important bacteria. These peptides not only have potential in the pharmaceutical industry but also in food and agricultural sectors. OBJECTIVE We provide an overview of the recent bacteriocins isolated from different species of Bacillus including their applications and the older bacteriocins. RESULTS In this review, we have revised some works about the improvements carried out in the production of bacteriocins. CONCLUSION These applications make bacteriocins very promising compounds that need to study for industrial production.

Abstract
Under natural conditions, plants are always associated with a well-orchestrated community of microbes-the phytomicrobiome. The nature and degree of microbial effect on the plant host can be positive, neutral, or negative, and depends largely on the environment. The phytomicrobiome is integral for plant growth and function; microbes play a key role in plant nutrient acquisition, biotic and abiotic stress management, physiology regulation through microbe-to-plant signals, and growth regulation via the production of phytohormones. Relationships between the plant and phytomicrobiome members vary in intimacy, ranging from casual associations between roots and the rhizosphere microbial community, to endophytes that live between plant cells, to the endosymbiosis of microbes by the plant cell resulting in mitochondria and chloroplasts. If we consider these key organelles to also be members of the phytomicrobiome, how do we distinguish between the two? If we accept the mitochondria and chloroplasts as both members of the phytomicrobiome and the plant (entrained microbes), the influence of microbes on the evolution of plants becomes so profound that without microbes, the concept of the "plant" is not viable. This paper argues that the holobiont concept should take greater precedence in the plant sciences when referring to a host and its associated microbial community. The inclusivity of this concept accounts for the ambiguous nature of the entrained microbes and the wide range of functions played by the phytomicrobiome in plant holobiont homeostasis.

Abstract
Crop disease remains a major problem to global food production. Excess use of pesticides through chemical disease control measures is a serious problem for sustainable agriculture as we struggle for higher crop productivity. The use of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) is a proven environment friendly way of controlling plant disease and increasing crop yield. PGPR suppress diseases by directly synthesizing pathogen-antagonizing compounds, as well as by triggering plant immune responses. It is possible to identify and develop PGPR that both suppress plant disease and more directly stimulate plant growth, bringing dual benefit. A number of PGPR have been registered for commercial use under greenhouse and field conditions and a large number of strains have been identified and proved as effective biocontrol agents (BCAs) under environmentally controlled conditions. However, there are still a number of challenges before registration, large-scale application, and adoption of PGPR for the pest and disease management. Successful BCAs provide strong theoretical and practical support for application of PGPR in greenhouse production, which ensures the feasibility and efficacy of PGPR for commercial horticulture production. This could be pave the way for widespread use of BCAs in agriculture, including under field conditions, to assist with both disease management and climate change conditions.

Abstract
Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) are a heterogeneous group of bacteria that can exert beneficial effects on plant growth directly or indirectly by different mechanisms. PGPB-based inoculant formulation has been used to replace chemical fertilizers and pesticides. In our previous studies, two endophytic endospore-forming bacteria identified as Bacillus altitudinis were isolated from roots of Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. seedlings and selected for their plant growth-promoting (PGP) properties shown in vitro and in vivo. The purposes of this work were to assemble the genomes of B. altitudinis 19RS3 and T5S-T4, using different assemblers available for Windows and Linux and to select the best assembly for each strain. Both genomes were also automatically annotated to detect PGP genes and compare sequences with other genomes reported. Library construction and draft genome sequencing were performed by Macrogen services. Raw reads were filtered using the Trimmomatic tool. Genomes were assembled using SPAdes, ABySS, Velvet, and SOAPdenovo2 assemblers for Linux, and Geneious and CLC Genomics Workbench assemblers for Windows. Assembly evaluation was done by the QUAST tool. The parameters evaluated were the number of contigs ≥ 500 bp and ≥ 1000 bp, the length of the longest contig, and the N50 value. For genome annotation PROKKA, RAST, and KAAS tools were used. The best assembly for both genomes was obtained using Velvet. The B. altitudinis 19RS3 genome was assembled into 15 contigs with an N50 value of 1,943,801 bp. The B. altitudinis T5S-T4 genome was assembled into 24 contigs with an N50 of 344,151 bp. Both genomes comprise several genes related to PGP mechanisms, such as those for nitrogen fixation, iron metabolism, phosphate metabolism, and auxin biosynthesis. The results obtained offer the basis for a better understanding of B. altitudinis 19RS3 and T5S-T4 and make them promissory for bioinoculant development.

Abstract
Sustainable agriculture remains a focus for many researchers, in an effort to minimize environmental degradation and climate change. The use of plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPM) is a hopeful approach for enhancing plant growth and yield. However, the technology faces a number of challenges, especially inconsistencies in the field. The discovery, that microbial derived compounds can independently enhance plant growth, could be a step toward minimizing shortfalls related to PGPM technology. This has led many researchers to engage in research activities involving such compounds. So far, the findings are promising as compounds have been reported to enhance plant growth under stressed and non-stressed conditions in a wide range of plant species. This review compiles current knowledge on microbial derived compounds, taking a reader through a summarized protocol of their isolation and identification, their relevance in present agricultural trends, current use and limitations, with a view to giving the reader a picture of where the technology has come from, and an insight into where it could head, with some suggestions regarding the probable best ways forward.

Abstract
Microbiome plays an important role in plant growth and adaptation to various environmental conditions. The cross-talk between host plant and microbes (including microbe-microbe interactions) plays a crucial role in shaping the microbiome. Recent studies have highlighted that plant microbiome is enriched in genes encoding enzymes and natural products. Several novel antimicrobial compounds, bioactive natural products and lytic/degrading enzymes with industrial implications are being identified from the microbiome. Moreover, advancements in metagenomics and culture techniques are facilitating the development of synthetic microbial communities to promote sustainable agriculture. We discuss the recent advancements, opportunities and challenges in harnessing the full potential of plant microbiome.

Abstract
Biostimulants (BSs) are probably one of the most promising alternatives nowadays to cope with yield losses caused by plant stress, which are intensified by climate change. Biostimulants comprise many different compounds with positive effects on plants, excluding pesticides and chemical fertilisers. Usually mixtures such as lixiviates from proteins or algal extracts have been used, but currently companies are interested in more specific compounds that are capable of increasing tolerance against abiotic stress. Individual application of a pure active compound offers researchers the opportunity to better standarise formulations, learn more about the plant defence process itself and assist the agrochemical industry in the development of new products. This review attempts to summarise the state of the art regarding various families of organic compounds and their mode/mechanism of action as BSs, and how they can help maximise agricultural yields under stress conditions aggravated by climate change.
