Abstract
Autistic children often face challenges in socio-emotional competence (SEC). Group-Based Emotion Regulation Interventions (GBERs), involving parents and teachers, show potential for improving SEC while enhancing accessibility and cost-effectiveness. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of GBERs for autistic children. A systematic search of seven databases (2012-2022) identified studies on GBERs targeting SEC in autistic children aged 7-18 years. Studies were assessed for risk of bias. Seventeen studies were included. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)-based approaches were most prevalent, with some interventions incorporating play-based, mindfulness, or yoga-based approaches. Effective interventions featured components such as parent and teacher psychoeducation and skill reinforcement through homework. GBERs show promise in improving SEC among autistic children, although caution is warranted as some studies lack comparator groups. Occupational therapists may play a pivotal role in expanding GBERs' access and supporting SEC development.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that warrants early intervention. This systematic review evaluated the efficacy of parent-mediated natural developmental behavioral interventions (NDBIs) for children aged 0-6 with ASD across various randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and explored the limitations of these interventions. A systematic search was conducted across the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Scopus databases to identify RCTs, and the selected studies were assessed for quality. The search was conducted through January 2024 and identified eight RCTs that, despite varying methodological rigor, collectively suggest benefits for social communication, language skills, and parent‒child interactions in individuals with ASD. Future research should implement standardized intervention protocols, employ sensitive assessment tools, and provide detailed statistical analysis plans to improve the generalizability and reliability of the outcomes of this study.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication impairments and repetitive behaviors. Recent reports show that one in thirty-six 8-year-old children are autistic, signifying a considerable public health concern. According to previous studies, emotional dysregulation (ED) affects 50-60% of individuals with ASD and includes symptoms such as poor emotional control, heightened reactivity, and a low frustration tolerance. The main aims of the current study are to investigate the prevalence of ED among autistic preschoolers (below 6 years of age) and to assess the impacts of gender and intellectual disability on their emotional dysregulation profile. Methods: Data have been collected from three children's research hospitals in Italy (IRCCS Stella Maris Foundation, Stella Maris Mediterraneo Foundation, and IRCCS Bambino Gesù). Parents of 825 autistic pre-schooled children (mean age: 39.68 months, SD: 10.51 months) completed a general questionnaire and the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL), a reliable caregiver-reported assessment tool which provides a dysregulation profile. Results: A total of 30% of the children displayed a severe-to-moderate ED (emotional dysregulation) profile, with these children exhibiting significantly higher emotional-behavioral problems compared to those without ED. Males with ED exhibited greater emotional reactivity than females with ED. However, no significant relationships were found between ED and age, autism severity (ADOS-2), or intellectual disability. Conclusions: The results underline the importance of early, tailored interventions to face emotional challenges in young children with ASD, potentially improving long-term outcomes for this population.

Abstract
Parent-mediated interventions for infants and young children with an increased likelihood of autism may help ameliorate developmental concerns; however, generalization of parents' teaching strategies to novel child target skills has not been consistently demonstrated. This study expanded our parent training program, Parent Intervention for Children at-Risk for Autism (PICARA), by incorporating telehealth general case training (PICARA-TGCT) to promote generalization of teaching skills. Five parent-child dyads participated. Child target skills were chosen from the categories of imitation, receptive language, and expressive language. A concurrent multiple-baseline-across-participants design was used to evaluate the effect of training across two cohorts of parent-child dyads. Dependent variables included the percentage of correct parent teaching skills and the percentage of child correct responses. Parent teaching skills increased across all participants for both trained and untrained child target skills, as did child skills. This study provides support for PICARA-TGCT as an efficacious and efficient early intervention model.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions are a common and well-researched type of intervention for young autistic children that focus on supporting social communication. These interventions often do not include formal guidelines on how to address disruptive behaviors, even though they are common among autistic children. This study measured how often clinicians delivering a specific naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention, Project ImPACT, adapted how they delivered the program to address disruptive behavior, and how these adaptations related to children's social communication outcomes at the end of their participation in the intervention. We also spoke with clinicians about how they address disruptive behavior and emotion regulation during their sessions. In this study, clinicians adapted Project ImPACT to address disruptive behaviors in about one-third of all sessions. These adaptations did not affect children's social communication outcomes. Clinicians discussed how they felt social communication, disruptive behavior, and emotion regulation are linked to one another and that they often try to integrate intervention strategies to address each of these areas. However, they note that a clinicians' approach to addressing disruptive behavior might vary depending on their level of training and experience. These results indicate several future directions for supporting clinicians in addressing behavior and regulation effectively within these types of interventions.

Abstract
Children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often experience challenges in emotion regulation (ER) and emotion dysregulation (ED) which can interfere with their adaptive functioning. This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the evidence on ER/ED in children and/or adolescents with ASD, examining its relationship with the following variables: internalizing and externalizing symptoms, cognitive function and social skills, and the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions addressing ER difficulties. Both electronic and manual searches were conducted to identify potential studies. Fifty-five studies were included in the meta-analysis. A statistically significant between-group difference was found, suggesting greater ER/ED challenges in the ASD group. Also, the ASD group showed more maladaptive ER strategies and fewer adaptive ER strategies compared to the non-ASD participants. Additionally, more severe ASD and poorer social skills were associated with greater ED and poorer ER skills, respectivelly. Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between internalizing symptomatology and both adaptive and maladaptive ER strategies. Studies of non-pharmacological interventions showed significant improvement in both ER and ED. These results imply that assessing ER/ED in children and adolescents with ASD should be part of the evaluation process, and it should also be a focal point for intervention in this population.

Abstract
Emotion dysregulation (ED) is a transdiagnostic difficulty prevalent in autism spectrum condition (ASC). Importantly, recent research has suggested that ED is involved in self-harm and suicidality. Pre-existing models on the etiology of ED in ASC focus mainly on biological factors to ASC features, such as sensory sensitivities, poor flexibility, and sensitivity to change. However, although psychosocial factors seem to play a role in the emergence of ED in ASC as well (e.g., childhood maltreatment and camouflaging), there is a lack of a comprehensive model conceptualizing biosocial factors involved in ED in autistic people. Linehan's biosocial model (1993) is one of the leading etiological models of ED in borderline personality disorder (BPD). It conceptualizes ED as emerging from transactions between a pre-existing emotional vulnerability in the child and an invalidating developmental environment. Beyond its clinical relevance, Linehan's model has gathered empirical evidence supporting its pertinence in BPD and in other psychiatric disorders. Although ASC and BPD are two distinct diagnoses, because they may share ED, Linehan's biosocial model might be useful for understanding the development of ED in ASC. Hence, this article aims to provide an application and extension of Linehan's model to conceptualize ED in ASC. To do so, we conducted a narrative review of the literature on ED and its underlying factors in ASC from a developmental perspective. To investigate the pertinence of the biosocial model applied to ED in autistic people, we were interested on data on (i) ED and its behavioral correlates in ASC, in relation to the biosocial model, (ii) the potential biological and psychosocial correlates of ED in ASC and (iii) the overlapping difficulties in ASC and BPD. Finally, to assess the pertinence of the model, we applied it to the case of an autistic woman presenting with ED and suicidal behaviors. Our review and application to the case of an autistic woman suggest that ED in ASC encompasses factors related to both biological and psychosocial risk factors as conceptualized in the BPD framework, although in both domains ASC-specific factors might be involved.
