Abstract
Plant polyphenols are widely distributed in most higher plants, garnering significant attention from researchers due to their remarkable antioxidative, antibacterial, anticancer, and anti-radiation properties. They also offer multiple health benefits for various lifestyle-related diseases and oxidative stress. While there has been considerable research on the extraction and antibacterial application of plant polyphenols, developing a rapid and efficient extraction method remains a persistent challenge. Furthermore, the introduction of novel technologies is imperative to enhance the bioavailability of polyphenolic compounds. This comprehensive review synthesizes recent research findings pertaining to the extraction, antibacterial mechanisms, and applications of plant polyphenols. This research highlights the prevalent issues of low extraction rates of plant polyphenols and the ambiguous antibacterial mechanisms in current research. To address these challenges, this research proposes innovative directions for improving extraction technology and expanding antibacterial applications. Additionally, this review outlines promising future research avenues within the realm of plant polyphenols. Graphical abstract

Abstract
Euphorbia hirta has anti-inflammatory effects in traditional medicine, but its anti-inflammatory mechanism has not been explored at the cellular and molecular levels. To unravel these mechanisms, the main active components in the 65 and 95% ethanol extracts of Euphorbia hirta were first identified by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS. Subsequently, potential anti-inflammatory targets and signaling pathways were predicted using network pharmacology and experimentally validated using RT-PCR and flow cytometry in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation model of RAW264.7 cells. The results revealed flavonoids as the key active components. Network pharmacology uncovered 71 potential anti-inflammation targets, with a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network highlighting 8 cores targets, including IL-6, TNF, NFκB and Nrf2 et al. Furthermore, Euphorbia hirta exerts anti-inflammation effects through modulation of Nrf2 and NF-κB signaling pathways. Specifically, the 65% ethanol extract of Euphorbia hirta (EE65) and quercitrin (HPG) exerted anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the expression of inflammatory genes associated with the NF-κB signaling pathway, whereas baicalein (HCS) suppressed cellular inflammation by promoting Nrf2-mediated antioxidant gene expression and enhancing apoptosis of inflammatory cells. The results of the study suggest that Euphorbia hirta has potential for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs.

Abstract
AbstractAreca (Areca catechu L.) nut is a tropical plantation fruit cultivated mainly in South and Southeast Asia. As a chewing hobby, it has become the most common psychoactive substance in the world, besides tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine. Areca catechu contains abundant nutrients and active components such as alkaloids, polyphenols, polysaccharides, proteins, and vitamins, which have been reported to have anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti‐depressant, anti‐hypertensive, anti‐fatigue, and other biological properties. However, at present, the resource utilization rate of the whole‐plant areca nut is low, which not only causes resource waste but also damages the environment. Establishing effective, safe, and environmentally friendly techniques and methods is necessary for the comprehensive utilization of A. catechu resources. In this review, we summarized the traditional and advanced methods for the extraction and identification of main bioactive substances in A. catechu and compared the advantages and disadvantages of these methods. Furthermore, the possible trends and perspectives for future use of A. catechu are also discussed. Our objective is to extend the application of this bioactive ingredient to improve the added value, provide valuable information for developing new A. catechu products and derivatives, and improve the comprehensive utilization of areca nut resources.

Abstract
Plant extracts can be a valuable source of biologically active compounds in many cosmetic preparations. Their effect depends on the phytochemicals they contain and their ability to penetrate the skin. Therefore, in this study, the possibility of skin penetration by phenolic acids contained in dogwood extracts of different fruit colors (yellow, red, and dark ruby red) prepared using different extractants was investigated. These analyses were performed using a Franz chamber and HPLC-UV chromatography. Moreover, the antioxidant properties of the tested extracts were compared and their impact on the intracellular level of free radicals in skin cells was assessed. The cytotoxicity of these extracts towards keratinocytes and fibroblasts was also analyzed and their anti-inflammatory properties were assessed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The analyses showed differences in the penetration of individual phenolic acids into the skin and different biological activities of the tested extracts. None of the extracts had cytotoxic effects on skin cells in vitro, and the strongest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties were found in dogwood extracts with dark ruby red fruits.

Abstract
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a mycotoxin that frequently contaminates cereals and cereal byproducts. This study investigates the effect of AFB1 on the mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) of piglets and evaluates if a diet containing grape seed meal (GSM) can counteract the negative effect of AFB1 on inflammation and oxidative stress. Twenty-four weaned piglets were fed the following diets: Control, AFB1 group (320 μg AFB1/kg feed), GSM group (8% GSM), and AFB1 + GSM group (8% GSM + 320 μg AFB1/kg feed) for 30 days. AFB1 has an important antioxidative effect by decreasing the activity of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and total antioxidant status. As a result of the exposure to AFB1, an increase of MAP kinases, metalloproteinases, and cytokines, as effectors of an inflammatory response, were observed in the MLNs of intoxicated piglets. GSM induced a reduction of AFB1-induced oxidative stress by increasing the activity of GPx and SOD and by decreasing lipid peroxidation. GSM decreased the inflammatory markers increased by AFB1. These results represent an important and promising way to valorize this waste, which is rich in bioactive compounds, for decreasing AFB1 toxic effects in mesenteric lymph nodes.
